My method to save money: Buy only 2 to 3 meats per week. Keep basic stock on hand *potatoes, onions, carrots, pasta, rice etc), cook only 3x per week. Make double batches at each meal. Eat leftovers day 2, supplementing with a bread, a carb like rice or quinoa, veggie, salad, dessert etc. Day 3 cook. Day 4 leftovers. Repeat. 1 day a week do soup and sandwich or salad or breakfast for dinner or if everyone is old enough, they fend for themselves. You only cook 3x per week AND save money. Win, win.
I have been a subscriber for years, but I don't comment much. you uploaded this 10 minutes ago, so I thought I'd say hi
Ugh I get so overwhelmed meal planning, and there’s just me and my husband right now! I envy how calm you were and how quickly you planned everything. That is my dream haha
It’ll get soo much easier over time! Just make sure to write down each recipe y’all end up liking. I’ve had a notebook for the last 10 years and it’s easy to know what we will enjoy.
I agree that it gets so much easier with time and practice. Often times it is just the discipline of sitting down for 5 to 10 minutes to do it. I think the key is to have a list of staple meals and it's pretty quick to pick and choose based on what you have in the fridge / freezer then every once in awhile you can add a new recipe!
It will come with practice ❤
Easiest recipe that’s always a favorite is making homemade burritos. We do ground beef or ground turkey so sauté that with diced onions however, amount you want. I usually do half an onion salt and pepper. After that’s cooked add taco seasoning packet to that with water let that summer then add a can of refried beans stir that altogether and let it simmer. Then that is your burrito filling it on a tortilla with whatever lettuce you use spinach because it’s healthier. Cheese, sour cream, salsa, and wrap it up for kids. You can use smaller tortillas and it’s also fun for them to try it themselves.
That sounds really good! Thanks for sharing, I’ll definitely be trying that 🥰
This video couldn't have come at a better time. I was currently feeling lost and overwhelmed from all the household planning and 9 months old and restarting work. I was thinking of meal planning and you come to my rescue with all this inspiration ❤
I would love this style of video on the regular!
Here are some meals we make often: chickpea curry, baked potatoes, lemon chicken pasta, teriyaki chicken, gochujang beef, white chicken chili, lettuce wraps
Love this! Great idea to share regulars so we can get ideas! Our regular meals are- general tso chicken, tacos, shepherds pie, pulled pork, fajitas, enchiladas, pollo asada
I love this! Dinners my family loves are:
- creamy sausage tortellini
- meatloaf with sheetpan veggies
- parmesean chicken bites with pasta side and green beans
- Lasagna Soup
- Crockpot stuffed peppers (or sometimes just the filling 😂)
Hope this helps somebody! ❤
Hi Delilah, I am from Indian origin and Vegetarian family and I like and follow your videos. Have you ever tried Any Indian Foods like Rice and Lentils as mains and roasted veggies on sides or any Indian flat breads etc. I thought indian one pots might save your precious time .😂
Thank you Delilah for making my motherhood journey much more easier
Very useful video! It encourages parents to cook home cook/fresh meals for the family!
I love this!!!
I think taco meat (both beef and chicken) is a go-to for my family. We do hard and soft tacos, nachos, taco salads, taco pasta bake… so versatile. I can make 4 lbs of the same seasoned meat and use it so many different ways!
Another thing I’ve found helpful is washing and cutting/prepping all my veggies (and fruits) for the whole week. If I have everything chopped and ready to throw into the skillet, cooking doesn’t seem like such an inconvenience and time-sucker.
Hello Delilah! One of my favorite go to meals thats an easy, and inexpensive way to use up leftover vegetables is stir fry and rice! My family loves it and it’s easy to change ingredients in it to mix up the flavor profile each time!
Yes I love to do stir fry!
I just did that yesterday 😅
This is so helpful for the fellow mama out there!!! Thank you!! I always wondered what other families eat, especially with the little ones, there is so much time and mental energy into meal prep, etc.
I love this video and I am the odd one where I'm so excited to meal plan each week!
- Teriyaki chicken, white rice, green onion, and a veggie side
- enchilada bowls with tortilla chips on the side
- pasta with ground beef and veggies (carrots, zucchini, onion, bell peppers) and a side of garlic bread
- good ol fajitas! Chicken or beef, tortillas, shredded cheese and any other topping for your tacos!
great video as always!
i like to keep two notes on my phone. one i have written all the recipes i have and one with all of the groceries we usually buy. it takes a hot second to make those but after that, basically doing what you just did is a breeze! i will go through my recipes and just check which ones i want to make for the week. and seeing everything makes it easier to “come up with”
ideas. then from there i go over to my groceries note and check the things i need to buy. i also share that note with my husband and so during the week if there’s something he notices we need he will just go ahead and check it off. then once all the grocery shopping is done we clear the checks there and when a meal is made i clear that off. has saved me so much time!!
So clever!!! Doing this 🥳
Jacket Potatoes
Roast dinner with yorkshire pudding
Fish and chips
Curry especially chicken Tikka
Stew with dumplings
Tuna pasta bake
Pulled pork stuffed poblano peppers topped with cornbread batter and baked
You bring so much joy into my life ❤ greetings from Bulgaria 😊
Great video as always! 🩷
Meal ideas:
- spaghetti
- Hungarian goulash
- tuna casserole
- BLT sandwich with a side salad
- breakfast for supper (eggs, bacon or sausage and homefries)
- pork chops marinated in garlic spare rib sauce with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies of your choice
- meatloaf
- stew in crockpot. This recipe is my go-to: 1 lbs of stewing cubes, 1 bag of baby carrots, 1 can of sliced potatoes (this works best because the potatoes don’t get too mushy while cooking) 2 stalks of celery chopped and 1 can of Campbell tomato, oregano and basil soup. Put all ingredients in crockpot with the can of soup. With that same can, fill it up about 1/4 of the way with water and dump it in the crockpot. Mix everything together and cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours.
🤗🌷
as a Hungarian I appreciate you listed goulash :))
Crockpot meatloaf. Super easy to make (basically your favorite meatloaf mixture then plop that blob of meat in a gallon freezer baggie and freeze it). It is a freezer meal but the morning of you just plop the chunk of frozen loaf in the crockpot, cover it with sauce of choice (my family loves to use BBQ sauce here), and then leave it on low and slow all day. 6-8 hours pretty much. Lovely and fall apart delicious. Don't remember where I came across this recipe initially, but it has become a fast favorite around here and my husband does not even like meatloaf.
Ahh Delilah I love this so much and I love your content. Thank you for being such an inspiration to me and I love how you are a mother to your children. It’s so sweet and so encouraging. Ilysm and I hope you’re having an amazing day 💕
Our go to meals are:
Chili burritos
Shepherds pie
Slow cooker roast
Meatball subs
Sloppy Joes
Pasta
Delia when I thought you couldn't get more beautiful you proved me wrong
Love the simplicity of this! I just got the every day meals cookbook and I’m excited to try out the recipes!
this is the best, most simple way to meal plan i have ever heard! i am definitely learning from this and will be implementing it for my own family. thank you!
Some favorites of mine to make would be Turkish lentil soup, Turkish chickpeas and rice, musakka, and mantı which is kinda like a dumpling.
Meal planning has saved my sanity a few times over the years! I love the approach to make several dishes with similar ingredients to save even more food waste!
Some of our favourite meals are baked risotto (very easily made in the oven with roasted tomatoes, cheese and chives), one pot spaghetti (with tomatoes, spinach, onions and vegetable stock), and a 10 minute chickpea curry that's so tasty and easy to make!
I'll come back to check the comments for more meal ideas 😊
It is so much fun to go through recipe books and figure out what to make for dinners in this way. I do this too. I hope it goes well in when you make them! I meal plan in a similar fashion, where I pick recipes, write down what I need for them, and I then make them in the week.
We do a form of breakfast for dinner once every week and a favorite of ours is always biscuits and sausage gravy. We also really enjoy having creamy ranch chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. The mashed potatoes taste so good with the creamy ranch sauce the chicken is cooked with 😋
What's normally for lunch in America? Here in Spain we eat warm for both lunch and dinner but keep it simple for breakfast (coffee / glass of milk + bread+ tomatoe olive oil/peanut butter/ham/cheese...and perhaps some fruit but not always. We normally leave the fruit for the morning snack
I did like this video it did make me inspired to plan out some recipes before the week begins!
I found this super helpful thanks! Please do more like this ❤
I've watched your channel for years and have never commented! Thanks for a great video
This was so helpful! Thank you
Go-tos for our family:
Roasted beetroot/parsnip/pepper risotto
Baked gnocchi with tray roasted veg e.g. butternut squash and tomatoes
Oven baked ratatouille with breadcrumb topping
Egg stir fried rice with steamed sprouting broccoli
Beetroot, goats cheese/feta and walnut pasta sauce with pasta
Truly so helpful. Thank you!
Great video! Some meal staples in my house are penne a la vodka, baked ziti with meat sauce, chicken or eggplant parmesan, and fish tacos. In the summer, we do a ton of grilling/smoking on our pellet grill and will make things like steak kabobs, Cornish game hens, ribs, or a full-size chicken. We love our summer side dishes too like pasta salad, potato salad, and fresh cucumber salad. Happy cooking!
Oh and congee! Super easy. With lentils or turkey 😊
Oh Delilah ❤ I’m in need of help with meal planning I’ve been in a bit of a slump.. love your channel thank you❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You should try stuffed vegetables like bill paper or eggplant we call it Dolma it so easy just stuff any vegetables with rice, onions, garlic, parsley, tomatoes, tomatoes baise (beef or no beef) and cook it
I love this type of content! Many thanks for sharing your ideas with us all! Watching your videos from Spain ^^
loved this!
Very similar to how I plan but I’ll def be adding a “to be used” category!
Mini meatloafs are a go too for my family and the littles love them, my oldest calls them meat cupcakes 😂
My favorite go to meal is some smocked sausage, fried potatoes and peppers and onions! Just fry it All up in a skillet (I usually do potatoes first then I’ll pull those out and do the sausage with peppers and onions and then add it all back together once done! So yummy!
I don't cook yet for myself but I really want to when my baby starts eating. And if he loves solids just as much as he does his milk I'll have a lot to do.
I love one-pot meals in all varieties and chicken noodle soup, all year around, although they're more a fall/winter food.
Try pink pancakes, dyed with beetroot juice. You won't taste beetroot but they look awesome.
My go to’s I prep weekly for lunches are:
- rice and beans
-chili
-chickpea curry
-soups
A few easy weekly favorites are:
Grilled chicken thighs, green beans, and roasted red potatoe wedges
BLT sandwhiches with roasted diced sweet potatoes
If we do a pulled pork or pulled brisket we use the left over meat in a rice bowl so brown rice, the meat, diced peppers, a little salsa, spinach, sour cream, avocado
Love this!!!
That was very helpful, thanks ❤
Love your current content Delilah. Do you prep much in advance for the week? My go-to easy meals are either meatball subs in the slow cooker or katsu curry. I make the curry sauce in batches & freeze then just have to cook breaded chicken with steamed veggies & rice for a quick meal midweek.
I made lasagna for my oldest son's birthday yesterday! So easy, always a favorite, and just plain out yummy!
We are currently loving steak and goat cheese salads, lasagna soup, mustard maple roasted salmon, egg salad on fresh baked sourdough 🤤
Made your broccoli soup from a few weeks back and gosh was it delicious!! Some go-to meals I have is throwing a sausage and whatever veggies I can fry in a pan with soy sauce; fried bully beef w onions and mash; tuna and macaroni with white onion soup powder as sauce; oven baked fish w whatever starch we have and salad; and making a pizza w leftovers and sourdough discard on a cast iron pan... Bianca❤
Always so helpful ❤❤❤❤ love your videos just found out I’m pregnant with my first ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I try to do a similar meal prep and it helps keep my shopping list! My go to meals
1. Beef stroganoff
2. Sourdough pizza
3. Chile rellenos w/picadillo
4. Picadillo
5. Salt and pepper shrimp
6. Broccoli beef
7. Red Curry dishes with beef or chickpeas / japanese curry.
Thats all i can think of right now lol but these are the ones i feel are always on repeat
Have you ever made pulled pork Mac & cheese? I find making a cheese sauce with similar spices and then stirring in the meat afterwards is so delicious - can add tomatoes too :)
I love bean soup with dolar cut carrots, potatoes corn and noodles.
I use my notes app to write down our family’s fav meals and things we eat often so when I get stuck I have a list to go off of.
Meal planning is one of my favorite parts of the week! Some of our go-to’s are the HBH recipe for Indian butter chicken (I usually use less cayenne pepper so my kiddos will eat it too), shepherds pie, Greek Moussaka or pastitsio, chicken pad tai, turkey chili, or French onion chicken thighs with air fried green beans. All make pretty good sized portions so we can usually have leftover for a few days which makes life much easier! 😂
Loved it❤
Well, hello.I'm an hour late, but I'm watching your video now.Have a blessed day
Farmhouse on Boone has a great recipe for sourdough discard pizza crust in the cast iron skillet. I throw my toppings on and it’s amazing! I’ve got Celiac so GF discard but still fantastic! ❤😊
Wow, that came so easy it seemed. I have such a hard time coordinating meals..
I do my meal planning the same way.
I love making sweet and sour chicken or pork with noodles or rice. I make the whole thing from scratch and it's like a chinease take away without the cost and it's much healthier. It's a winner in our house!
Spicy chicken wings with lime is a favourite at the moment, butter chicken with rice and instant pot mushroom risotto. Yummyyyx
Recently I made boiled egg sandwich mixed with mayo and tomato for my kids lunch at school..only using 3 ingredients and bread as the main ingredient, adding a pinch salt, sugar and black pepper. The next day they asked me to make another boiled egg sandwich again😅 my husband say it's very tasty😋
Do you have a good homemade cornbread recipe? I've been wanting to find one. Thanks for the content
I struggle with adding an extra veggie as a side like a salad or steamed veg but I do incorporate lots of peppers, onion, tomato, black beans, and corn into my main dishes. My best meals right now are slow cooker pulled pork, spaghetti, kielbasa with potatoes, instant pot chicken taquitos, and nachos.
Did you have a source for the chicken taquitos?
Our go to meals
Chicken curry
Chicken a la king pasta
Spaghetti bolognaise
Roast chicken and veg
Boiled egg/Sausage chutney
Tinfish curry
Lazy cabbage rolls is one of our go to meals
My favourite dinner meal is BREAKFAST!❤ breakfast wraps , omelettes, or eggs Benedict :)
Recipes- anything by Alison Roman or Ina Garten! Can’t go wrong ❤with
I made a gluten free beef stroganoff last week lol! My babies love
My favorite go-to meal is creamy chicken over linguini!!
Hello from Japan ❤ I like making pumpkin potage and grilled cheese sandwiches:) My husband is American so I make international food often!
What is pumpkin potage?
Very realistic 😊
Can't wait to build up a stockpile
New Subscriber. Love your videos.
Guilty of making the same 10 meals over and over 😅 I actually find most of our meals off of Julia Pacheco’s channel! Her turkey and rice skillet is popular with my tot and baby. Just brown turkey, and add in diced tomatoes, cooked rice and mixed veggies and some seasonings! My toddler always asks for it, that and enchilada casserole. For the enchilada casserole, I put everything I can think of in a crockpot and let it sit all day. Chicken, enchilada sauce, green chilies, onion/bell peppers if on hand, beans if on hand, etc. Really good!:) Thanks for this video and the meal ideas!
How do your littles eat the steak and pulled pork sandwhiches, and pizza? I haven’t had any luck with meals like that so far with mine, and man am I missing those lol
That’s exactly how I meal plan too
Aussie potato baked potato, garlic butter, bacon and onions, coleslaw, grated cheese, sour cream I also use baby spinach can use any beans and veggie leftovers 🇦🇺🏠🎬💕
Is this all stuffed into the baked potato?
@@RCGWho yes
Hey thanks for sharing. Quick question : what do you guys have for lunch? Same than diner?
Here I also meal plan but have to have at least 5 meals + 5 vegetarian meals for night. Was curious how do you do that? Thanks! ❤
Ps : Mum of 2 beeing for the moment at home! ❤
I'm making French onion soup pasta as I'm watching and I just thought you'd love a recipe like that!
❤
What white handled sippy cup is that on the shelf?? 😊
I found the cup linked on your site.
Question- does it leak if thrown into a bag?
Okay so maybe I over complicate the meal planning but the whole pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw and cornbread wouldn’t work because it’s too much bread for one meal.
Enchiladas! They’re delish & not that hard to make 🇲🇽
Can you be honest, how much do you spend on groceries a month?? I think we are over spending ATM and it is just my husband and I and 2yo daughter. I'm also 35 weeks pregnant and it's hard to keep food down with nausea, so I feel like I waste alot :(
How do you get your kids to eat the salads etc? I rotate through the same handful of meals because my daughter who is 2 won’t eat anything exciting 😳. Xx
I always start with salad. I don't do snacks with children. They *will not* be hungry and won't eat their meals. Just keep serving the salad. Try different toppings like crasins or baby carrots etc and don't make a big deal. Just be persistent.
I would love to know what your family's favorite Mennonite mean is. 🥰
Okay, this is a very minor thing - but I had never seen Lasagna spelt this way (I’ve always known Lasagne) and just googled about it - mind blown. 😅 and ive always pronounced Lasagne as Lasagna - now I stand corrected. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 okay bye
Smoker is also my husband’s territory. Men seem to really love to smoke, don’t they?
Mississippi meatloaf
Pesto pasta
Deconstructed taco bowl
How do you make this?
