    His ideas about enhancing cooperation among universities for better societal impact are very good. This could redefine higher education's role in society significantly.

    This is awesome. There are so many changes in the way we do things and sometimes it feels like not everyone in society is going to have the chance to catch up. This could massively help.

      I’m so pleased to hear that! Unfortunately, in most places we still have a model that nurtures competitiveness so there’s a lot of work to be done before we can really achieve global collaboration. But it’s important to try!

    There's nothing like a crash to put one on a different path or mindset. The challenge is remembering what was experienced, learned and move forward. Post Covid is a bit like, well that's done and let's get back to the way things were. I saw a great post on social media where it was suggested they should have a big celebrity launch for the movie Groundhog 2. And then play the same movie at the premier!

      Glad you found that one engaging :) It was a scary rafting experience, but just as scary is the trouble I think we’re having in traditional higher education institutions trying to figure out in which direction we should move. There are exciting possibilities, but I fear that there are many institutions that aren’t going to make the transition and their futures seem quite unclear to me.

    I love how he says education is about discovering things that you didn't know before. Boils it down so simply but yeah, that is what it's all about.

    • @curtrice1982
      @curtrice1982 7 місяців тому

      Thanks :) This is part of why it’s so hard when someone asks me about systems that encourage “over-education”. I think it’s very difficult to say that there’s such a thing as too much education. Do we really imagine that someone can discover too much new knowledge - either for themselves or for all of us? In fact, I would say finding a way to contribute to lifelong learning - or lifelong discovering - is perhaps one of the central challenges for colleges and universities today. Lots of talk, but only a few that are really having a major impact in these areas.

    • @thephilosopher59
      @thephilosopher59 6 місяців тому

      Yes to this on what education should be. What we're really talking about is knowledge and numbers. It's very important on a professional perspective, such as doctor etc. It seems soft skills are highly sought after these days. What we've skipped in education is what it means to be human and being isn't doing, its feeling. In today's society it has become judgement and disdain and it is an acceptable behaviour. Ethics and compassion is how one cares for other humans. However I'm just too darn busy trying to survive and get through the day. I hear that a lot.

    I still can't help but value the classic residential full-time offerings. There's a timeless charm to the traditional campus-based education that shouldn't be abandoned too quickly.

    • @curtrice1982
      @curtrice1982 6 місяців тому

      I completely agree! Living with other students, spending long days together, learning so much, that’s all wonderful. And in some cases, alternatives to this will be a “funnel” for the traditional approach. But I think providers of traditional education should also be in the non-traditional market to facilitate those transitions when they are possible and to assure a good non-traditional education when it isn’t possible.

    • @curtrice1982
      @curtrice1982 7 місяців тому

      I agree! It’s interesting think about how higher ed on the one hand made a transition overnight at the beginning of the pandemic and how we on the other hand hardly see any long-term effects of that move. Back to campus, back to the classroom - that’s all good - but did our pedagogy change? Did we learn anything about learning? Hard to say …
