@@TeknoPhil84 I don't think that your skill on 2016 translates that well to Eternal. I find Eternal easier, as I'm better at resource management and dash-type of movement. (Eternal isn't actually easier, I'm just better at it). What you'll get from 2016 is the aiming skill, and the need for strategic movement in a fps.
I like a lot the fact how demons react to de bullets damage, kind of amazing and it's very natural violent. I like it a lot. Nice video and explanation btw, this stuff you make it's so good :)
Woaah, crazy stuff! Really cool to watch this after being accustomed to Mayo through his later videos and guides for Eternal, I like seeing this as it reminds me we can all improve!
After watching both slow motion and normal speed, it's impressive how... natural and instinctive inputs feel. As a viewer who didn't play Doom Eternal, It feels like you know how to tackle particular type of enemy and have good understanding of the game, even if you do mistakes here and there. After watching this I realised I do similar thing in other games as well - for me it's Starsector, I know the game, mechanics, etc and react to everything as it comes up with having some general idea for particular battle. Your Doom Eternal videos are enjoyable and different than a lot of I've seen / watched, and give me another perspective on the game itself. Keep this up man, it's good stuff :)
Thanks for keeping the content up, just feels good to see somebody enjoying the game as well, makes me want to play even more. Tried battle mode yesterday, liked it a lot, I found myself being more focused in the campaign afterwards. Playing as a slayer in the battle mode really stresses you out, since you have 2 dangerous enemies to deal with, besides all the rest, and they are humans.
this is amazing because we also meticulously see the mistakes, which gives a bigger picture about what a player would or should do after a given mistake
I really dig the format of this, well done. Some of the other channels (Ketchup's Battlemode series, for example) could really benefit from doing an in-depth slow-mo analysis like this, really lets you get detailed with the decision-making process and you still get the live reaction side of things. Also, Remote Detonation. 10/10
Very interesting to see what goes through your head while playing. My play style is centered around meat hook jumps and switching to ballista / precision bolt while in the air and just generally fly around the arena. Really good doom content btw :D
i'm not entirely sure how to praise this video so i'll just ramble. this is damn good man. love your stuff. Doom's prioritizing combat flow is so delicious(?) even when just watching it. so much happens in such short amounts of time. i think i'll show this to any friends who aren't sure if they'll like Doom or not.
I've become a fast fan since the Marauder video. Your usual content is great, but if I'm honest, my favorite video of yours is the God of War essay. You nailed that format and I'm wondering if I should expect more content like that in the future? You've got a natural voice for review.
your voice is so good that even youtube's caption generator got it spot on until the live commentary. I like these kinds of videos so I can learn. I am still a really bad player.
I invite you to do a series of analysis of different combat arenas, perhaps those that you favor over others? Or those that some players have a hard time with. Love your content, looking forward to more.
I was starting to put together a couple vids of the "freestyle" Eternal allows you, just by following a couple rules....Good assessment of your encounter. I don't know if your maxed out here or not, but I personally find it useful to always have the toggle on Freeze grenade as it simply Stops movement (of the enemies) and when you turn that corner and don't like what you see type of thing. Also, (and i only say this not as though you need the help) if your in that type of spot @ 2:38 with the Imp. Chainsaw has full Invul, and as long as your not Corner locked, if you can make it instinctive to look for openings during chainsaws, you could have breezed by that Arachnotron without a hitch to your momentum. Also, there's a little bit of timing to it, But if you start with your frag grenade (best if you have either the falter effect, or the scatter bomb upgrade on) you can cancel frag, into ice, into frag, before you first frag even explodes for INSANE amounts of damage. It's hard to tell you the timing, but while you can still visually see your cannon and hear that "thunk" of your launcher, its like a 1 (swap) 2 (swap) 1, slower than you might think and you'll see your flurry of frags freeze and demolish any medium and under, as well as almost finish some heavies. (the game also allows you to somehow also flame belch during that mess) lol So it's useful as hell...
2:08 You don’t get armor from a meat hook glory kill, it only works if you shoot the super shotgun. You have to use the flame belch if you want armor for a glory kill.
Actually you can the problem is that the fire is only there for a bit after the meathook hits, so often glory kills will waste the fire time. But close range meathook + instant chainsaw/gk is a perfect way to get all your ressources back
DUDE. No. This is not true. The meat hook activates a damage window in which multiple attacks and glory kills spawn armor depending on range and animations. I have a whole video coming out on this because apparently no one ever meat hooked an imp for a glory kill.
Great Analysis. some good insight and tricks I picked up now for my own enjoyment. I finished the campaign yesterday for the first time on nightmare and honestly I think I never had such a difficult, intense, BUT yet so fun experience. DOOM Eternal already catapulted itself into my number 1 spot for best first person shooter game. I never did an UN run in both DOOM '16 and obviously Eternal, but I have to practice some more if I wanna put myself through that challenge!
Every enemy has multiple ways to deal with it and its such a wonderful thing to have memorised. I feel like this video really shows the different style each slayer and more so that in some parts I would have done something completely different.
I know you REALLY like the remote detonate... but this fight would be SO MUCH easier with the lock-on mod. You wouldn’t struggle with the barrons neatly as much
@@perfectlap9379 Honestly if you want to crush marauders, there's a cheesy way to keep them staggered with the ballista. The method absolutely crushes them. You just need to stun him, move behind, and shoot him at the right time to stun him again. You can repeat this until he's dead.
@@infinitedeath1384 dw, i actually know about this. You have a 5f window to do it (i play fighters, so i'm good with tight stuff). I actually use the remote detonate to do it

Hey mayo I just got doom eternal on xbox the other day, and ive been playing my first playthrough on nightmare. The doom game of chess is amazing, and i love its unforgivingness, and playing on nightmare just feels right. I had to reconfigure my controls given the basic doom controls are kinda shit. But so far, on my last time playing, i beat the first slayer gate after a few tries. It was hard, but so so fun! Ive been watching, and enjoying these videos. I love essay like videos, and your content is quite perfect! Thank you mayo, as i probably wouldn't have barely thought of any of the things you have taught us.
You'd be surprised how many thoughts you can complete in a fraction of a second. I was writing down a story a week ago and I dedicated an entire paragraph to explain the thought process of me rationalizing something that took me no more than half a second in real time.
I always look at enemy placement as I am shooting. When I shoot there is a pause as the shot fires. I use that little frame of pause during the shot to look around and see where I can go next or if I should use equipment. It’s not really about learning movement and quick switching (it is necessary though), that part is easy, it’s more about positioning. For example you can ssg-rocket-balista a revenant, but what if you are pressured by a horde of imps or a big strong mancubus, or the revenant is on top or there is something in between you and the revenant. The stakes become different. Positioning is key
i use chaingun for the demon hunter platform and he's off in almost a few seconds. i find using plasma to destroy his shield opens up too many bad opportunities for me lol. great videos BTW i've learned a lot from them.
A tip that I realized but you probably already know; Blood Punch will take off weapons and armor from ANY enemy. Not just the Cyber Mancubus. So you can take out the Arachnatron turret, Revenant guns, Mancubus cannons, etc.
how can it be a quake arena like game when there's no announcer going "MO-MO-MO-MO-MO-MO-MO-MO-MONSTER KILL! (kill...kill...kill...)" on a more serious note, if you miss with the chainsaw, does it waste gas/ammo?
Holy shit, the amount of technical mastery and prioritization you have is amazing. Would you be willing to break down a boss fight? The Gladiator fight specifically?
Dayum this is actually a really dope video idea! Idk how many of these I could watch, but certainly step 1 in arguments against people who think Doom is just another braindead shooty shooty game
So I've upped my difficulty to nightmare and I find myself dying quite frequently in the early game...this is a great video, I think people including myself would like to see more tips and tricks videos

I been watching all ur videos and love them. I’m not the best player, so I use the lock on burst for the rocket launcher. But ur starting to convert me. My question is, is the remote det easy to get used to? I feel like it would be hard to concentrate on WHEN to detonate, especially moving around so much.
The trick is forming a bond with the speed of the rocket. To shoot a rocket, and then turn away, imagining where the rocket is. And detonating it with your back turned.
Under The Mayo That gave me anxiety just reading that! No I understand what you’re saying. It seems to be worth the practice to get good so I think I’ll try it out. Thanks for the response!
Actually loving the analysis as I'm watching. It's insane the micro adjustments we make while playing and the fact there are so many we need to slow things down to analyze them. I got Eternal recently and I'm still trying to figure out why I'm not having as much fun as I did with 2016. I think they are both great but something about Eternal just ain't grabbing me so far. Did it take a while to click with you as well or did you enjoy it as much as 2016 from the get go?
There are actually categories for doom eternal speedrunning that require you to fight and not just skip the whole level. I think you should check out DraQu's ultra nightmare 100% speedruns they're about as skilled as you you will see right now
It's the biggest curse this game can throw at you, when you fight for sometimes like 15 minutes, which feels like eternity, last threat is put down, you just 'ufff' and then you are dead, by some two smallest dudes hiding in the bushes;] that is hell on earth...

Practice doesn’t make you perfect but makes you a better Doom Slayer.
play on increasingly higher difficulties and analyze why you die and it will come naturally
Taras Nabad kicked my ass on my first playthrough. The Archville needs to be taken down asap in the big arena with the staircases at either end. Bloodpunch him to interrupt his casting. Once you get used to the Marauders that level is cake. Good luck!
Don’t be afraid to go back and replay earlier levels, even multiple times, until you are very comfortable dealing w stuff in them and using all the mechanics effectively. Try different things. Use cheats if you want to help u last longer. Watch guys like byteme and decino and practice shit they do. Just keep playing
@@PinkFloydrulez That's what I do now. I repeated every Eternal level until I got it 100% all secrets, all challenges, Slayer Gate, Secret encounters, before moving to the next level. and once I get through in Hurt Me Plenty I'll upgrade to UV and hopefully I'll get to Nightmage by the winter. I should have done this in 2016 already.
Watching the gameplay in slow motion was really interesting. I like being able to see what you’re thinking as everything is happening all at once.
Also I love the line “hello Mr. Revenant, you evasive skinny bastard”😂
Watching this makes me realized how crippled I am by playing on console where I can't weapon switch as effectively.
New consoles typically have M+KB support
Hy! Just wanna say that I beat this game on Nightmare, not so awesome like ultranightmare but you can! I did a few changes in the controller to be better like put the jump button on r1 and dash on l1. It's better to aim while jumping and dashing better
@@ausardash I'm about 60% through my first playthrough which I started on Nightmare when I saw the Director say it's the difficulty they think is the best it should be played at. Playing with a controller hasn't exactly held me back but seeing the potential in quick swapping weapons is huge. Most I've done was change my controls to match CoD: Advanced Warfare which has done wonders.
@@FriENTlyFire Hardly any do. Still something I'm surprised to see Eternal not have considering it's robust amount of accessibility features. Hope they add it in at some point, would make a world of difference.
You can quick switch kill a marauder on console and that's all that matters.
Watching this before I buy Doom Eternal on a discount.. and pretty sure I'll be a pro when I jump in thanks to your guides :)
there is theory and there's practice, unless you already master Doom 2016 in Ultra Nightmare, don't expect to play on Mayo's level any time soon. I got caught in that thinking too and go prety frustraded as I do normal difficulty and had to down grade twice to I'm too young to die in Taras Nabad.
Thanks for the advice guys, I take back what I said then and will try all his tactics out on DOOM UN first and hopefully it'll all go well
@@placeadrien5566 and the imps heavy fireball, which was 90% of my deaths in 2016, is less accurate and does less damage.
@agolloh are you buying on console or pc?
I like a lot the fact how demons react to de bullets damage, kind of amazing and it's very natural violent. I like it a lot. Nice video and explanation btw, this stuff you make it's so good :)
This was entertaining as hell. Commentary for fights like this make ya realize how fast we're makin' decisions when shits goin' down. Great stuff!!!
"I'm not a pro"
-under the mayo

This is some high quality content. You deserve a lot more subscribers brother. Keep up the good work. Rip and tear!
This is the best footage/analysis I've seen on Doom Eternal so far. Great Job.
This reminded of the Discombobulate scene on Dr. Dolittle
this is amazing because we also meticulously see the mistakes, which gives a bigger picture about what a player would or should do after a given mistake
Back then Mayo really make a simple fight look complicated. Now he just make every complicated fight looks simple lol.
Your video does a great job showing how much thought is involved with Doom's combat.
Man, I love this game so much. Such a fun game to experience.
I've become a fast fan since the Marauder video. Your usual content is great, but if I'm honest, my favorite video of yours is the God of War essay. You nailed that format and I'm wondering if I should expect more content like that in the future? You've got a natural voice for review.
This is fantastic and different content. You don't see a lot of videos like this, great stuff
This deep exhale at the end hahah when the music hits, gosh the goosebumps when the fight intensifies in the meantime
Dude - LOVE the Play-By-Play! Thanks for the excellent content!
I would love to see more videos like this! It’s very informative, and helps out a whole lot. Thanks for the continued awesome content man!
your voice is so good that even youtube's caption generator got it spot on until the live commentary.
I like these kinds of videos so I can learn. I am still a really bad player.
Love the high quality Doom videos.
This is poetry!!!
We need more videos like these Mayo..
Watching this video was pretty much just as fun as playing it myself. Awesome stuff dude.
"CRITICAL DAMAGE"
"yeah critical damage for me too man"
I lol'd
More of these sir.
Incredible! Those are some amazing reflexes. Hoping for more play by play analysis in the future.
Slow-mo part commentary: I have 500IQ
Live commentary: Go away, No!
I liked this. It was cool to see what you’re thinking in slow mo. Cheers bro
Doom Hunter : Critical Damage
Mayo : Yeah, Critical Damage for me too, man.
That's exactly what I thought as well. Great job, btw!
I invite you to do a series of analysis of different combat arenas, perhaps those that you favor over others? Or those that some players have a hard time with. Love your content, looking forward to more.
Dude. Your content is fucking incredible. Your going places. You’ve earned a subscriber mate.
You wouldn’t struggle with the barrons neatly as much
Well sure! But i do what I want! :) I use it more on UN cause one death. At least i do for now.
Tbh ssg + ballista takes care of them just as well. Remote detonate is godly vs marauders though
Under The Mayo by all means, as you should. It’s a game after all. There are more efficient ways, but no right or wrong ways.
I actually use the remote detonate to do it
I was watching the slow mo and thinking "wow I could do better than this" looking at your missed shots and other mistakes. Then it switched over to the regular speed and my eyes couldn't even follow what was happening xD awesome play by play and a cool fight! :)
it was also 4am and i was a zombie
Loved the video man, keep up the good work.
Saw your video on Marauders and now this vid. I think you've earned that sub.
Extremely happy that the algorithm showed me this today. Great video!
That full health mancubus take down was so smooth. Surgical.
Hey mayo
I just got doom eternal on xbox the other day, and ive been playing my first playthrough on nightmare.
It's crazy when you slow down and think about how many decisions you're actually making!
Love your videos, always giving me new appreciation for Doom Eternal when I thought I couldn't love it more. Which runes do you tend to favour ?
i use chaingun for the demon hunter platform and he's off in almost a few seconds. i find using plasma to destroy his shield opens up too many bad opportunities for me lol. great videos BTW i've learned a lot from them.
(kill...kill...kill...)"
on a more serious note, if you miss with the chainsaw, does it waste gas/ammo?
That was satisfying
This video inspired me to do something similar in the near future. Keep up that kickass content Mayo!
Mayo: In-depth analysis of a fight
Also mayo: *Ah, you dick*
@ 12:28. That sigh sums up the encounters in this game lol.
His voice is soothing while talking over the gameplay, it's relaxing actually.
this guys keyboard is probably more destroyed than chernobyl
Holy shit, the amount of technical mastery and prioritization you have is amazing. Would you be willing to break down a boss fight? The Gladiator fight specifically?
Dude i am so glad i found your channel! Keep up the good shit my dude
Dayum this is actually a really dope video idea! Idk how many of these I could watch, but certainly step 1 in arguments against people who think Doom is just another braindead shooty shooty game
The analysis with the actual fight after made it look like a Sherlock Holmes moment.
So I've upped my difficulty to nightmare and I find myself dying quite frequently in the early game...this is a great video, I think people including myself would like to see more tips and tricks videos

I’ve noticed a lot of the reasons I fail my ultra Nightmare speedrun is because of bad decision making, thank you for this!
Watching this like a QB watches game film. LOVE the analysis and ability to get insight that isn't available thru real time commentary. Gonna us this along with your other how tos. Alas I'm one of those Xbox assholes so looking for good controller set up until I can get a keyboard and mouse for it. Father of 3 so can't just go out😊. Keep up the excellent content!!
And people say that this game is just a gore fest that requires no thought.
This game takes time to get used to.
Wait when you say stagger you mean falter right, like stopping the demon right on its tracks.
Could you do Arc complex master level or ultra Nightmare run (not speedrun cuz i like to see Skilled gameplay and not as fast as possible
I’m not a fan of speed running
There are actually categories for doom eternal speedrunning that require you to fight and not just skip the whole level. I think you should check out DraQu's ultra nightmare 100% speedruns they're about as skilled as you you will see right now
That was almost as fun to watch as it is to play thanks!
It's the biggest curse this game can throw at you, when you fight for sometimes like 15 minutes, which feels like eternity, last threat is put down, you just 'ufff' and then you are dead, by some two smallest dudes hiding in the bushes;] that is hell on earth...
Your tips have made me a better DE player. Thank you!
It is amazing when you can actually put logic to what appears to be a beautiful clusterfuck. God I love Doom!
