@@erin3967 The teaser trailer shows only a part of a cutscene, and all of it is very similar to the DLC 2 artwork we got. But it is a pretty cool scene you might want to save for the game. It also shows 2 new enemies that Hugo hasn't talked about yet. If I were you I wouldn't watch it. You'll probably be playing it in a few days
It also helps to not use full auto or microwave beam and to install mods that remove Carcasses

Plasma rifle base fire, heat blast, mic beam, remote det, rocket at their feet, sticky bombs at their feet, destroyer blade, meathook, precision bolt-ing their shotgun just to the side of their shield, killing them when they spawn, before they pull up their shield, and there might be more, that I don't remember.

@@lugbzurg8987 select those missions where you think you'll have problems with. That will get you prepared for when you will get further. That's what I did to finish UN main campaign, tag1 and then both in brawler mode UN. It gets you really quick used with the quick switching, faltering system etc. You'll start to not even think too much about setting on fire the demons, throwing grenades.. these will come instinctual.

Get the randomizer mod, that'll get you back up to speed and give you something to do pre-dlc :)
"Ultra violence" and "taking it slow" - right... Of course I finished TAG on nightmare just once and it was more work than fun for me :D. So, other difficulty levels are more suitable and luckily the advice of not letting pride get in the way of fun is also what I live by. Or play by.

Yeah, I finished Doom Eternal on Ultra-Violence but the Ancient Gods just kicked my ass on that difficulty so I need to play it on Hurt Me Plenty and it's still hard for me lmao

Air mobility rune... because Eternal's demons are far worse at hitting agile aerial targets, than things on the ground (where their accuracy is ridiculously high)

I think it's a rule that you have to have the air mobility rune at ALL times, it's the best one and can't play without it

This is by far your best guide for someone like me. I'm the guy who beat the game on ultra violence 6-8 months ago. Missed the first DLC, and now I'm thinking of diving back in. I played the whole game and had no idea you could hold down the firing button and switch between to shoot really quickly

That isn't a fucking word.
For anyone using a controller who wants to incorporate the precision bolt in to combos but is struggling with the coordination, try by quick switching pb with the ssg before attempting rocket or ballista. It's feels more stable and you don't run the risk of splash damage like you do if you mess up using the rocket launcher and they start gaining on you. It's great for hell knights and mancubi. Also, if you play on console, try turning down your look smoothing gradually so as to give yourself a general movement advantage, especially performing mid-air attacks or quick turning after performing a combo. This makes a massive difference to the whole feel of the game.
I would also recommend to remap some positions on the weapon wheel. Namely, put four weapons that you use the most for combos and setups so you can access them with up, down, left and right on your right analog stick. The movement of the thumb in these directions in the middle of combat is easier and minimizes the chance of mistakenly swapping to a wrong weapon.

On top of all that, if you're feeling intimidated or shy about trying crazy stunts you see from the UA-cam players or the step up in difficulty, a ton of us in the Doom Community are here to help you practice and feel like a god-slaying badass regardless of what skill level you come in at. There's a lot less of the "git gud" mentality here than there is in more PvP-oriented games. A lot of us are really passionate about the game and want to share that with new or returning players. This is one of those single-player experiences that many people find more enjoyable with likeminded friends, and we're here for you if that suits you.
On an aside, the weapon wheel can also be a nice defensive tool, as it slows down time and give you a mid-battle chance to take ammo inventory (something quite critical in Doom Eternal) and strategize which risks to take. It gets a bad rep compared to quickswitching but it has helped me to great effect on all of my Ultra Nightmare runs when I'm trying to catch my breath without pausing.

So excited for TAG Part 2 - just when you think you have this game mastered they keep finding new ways to change it up and kick our asses....a whole year after it was released as well. To be playing it now as much as I was this time last year proves the brilliance of it's game design. If only all developers cared about the players like Hugo Martin and his team do!

Great vid, I didn’t play for probably 4-5 months and then played part one, got my ass handed to me for 3 days but it was some of the most fun I’ve ever had by myself in a shooter.

8:26 another fact to note with using the Ballista on Cacodemons is that the arbalest mod will kill them in one hit and will damage nearby enemies. I also recently learned that on the part where you’re being chased by 4 or 5 Cacodemons on the Super Gore Nest Master Level is that they eventually group on each other, not only meaning that hitting one with the arbalest will kill one caco and damage the nearby Cacodemons, it will also stun nearby Cacos and leave them open to a glory kill. That’s multiple Cacos in close contact with each other that you can easily glory in the air for tons of extra health and/or armor if you add in the flame belch.
Pretty sure after beating the trial of the dark lord on Nightmare. I'm ready for the dlc.
7:00 I need to keep it in my head to slow down when doing PB Rocket combos on that note. It's like the Navy SEALs phrase, "Slow is smooth and smooth is fast."

Console player here, the destroyer blade mod of the ballista is seriously underrated. At least that is what I think. The destroyer blade mod can cut through enemies when used correctly; like when hordes of demons are lined up or all over the place in a single line of fire, it can end the arena fight right there by just doing that. I either use the jump pads and charge the destroyer blade mod and immediately release after I touch the ground provided that I land on a tactical spot, or meathook an enemy and while in mid-air, charging the ballista and doing the same.
It is a deliciously deadly weapon and can shorten the lengths of the fights in one way or another.
In preparation for pt 2, it should also be noted to be careful when using grenades around Shreechers.I assume Mayo will have another guide for pt 2 when it's released.
I also would like to add that momentum is key in surviving really tough fights in Doom Eternal. If people would just sit down and look at their gameplay, they can learn how to improve. I play on console so quick swap is a little harder, but I always say their is room for improvement on my own combat style. Watching these videos helps me understand the combat a lot better, and become a better player as a result. I can't wait for Ancient Gods Pt 2 and I will slay until my heart's content
A couple combos I like that I haven’t heard anyone talk about:
If you meat hook to get close then blood punch the armor off a cyber mancubus then get as close as you can to him a super shotgun blast will put him into glory kill state. Same with the revenant minus the blood punch, meat hook to get close, WALK EVEN CLOSER then a super shotgun blast will put him into glory kill state. Super useful.
The cyber mancubus one in particular is really useful in rooms with multiple cyber mancubi because you get your blood punch back from the glory kill so you can chain kills. Especially in the super gore nest master level that room with 5 cyber mancubi is so much easier
I used to hate the Cyber Mancubus, but then I learned the freeze/grenade, meathook, BP, SSG combo and now I love meeting him.

I tried the game at the "medium" difficulty and got clapped by the first arachnatron, so I went down to easy.

I haven't played Eternal in a while so this was a very helpful refresher and also showed me some things I didn't know about like blood punching a carcass immediately staggering for a free blood punch refill. Also that massive destroyer blade kill was cathartic as fuck.

I have to say I really appreciate both this and the beginner's guide. I'm kind of a casual DOOM Eternal player, the fact that I play it on Switch should be proof enough of that fact, but I've been trying to do a Playthrough with Extra Life mode on Nightmare after doing the same on UV. I don't think I'll ever do the crazy weapon combos the more pro players do, but changing my mindset to be more liberal with changing out my weapons has already helped my gameplay much more. I've never considered using the chainsaw for utility purposes either, and I rarely even touched the Frag Grenade. I'm able to beat encounters that used to eat up my lives without losing any now, with a good amount of my health and armor left over as well!

I got the micro missle mod because I’m doing a second play through of doom eternal and wanted to use mods I normally didn’t use, and oh my god I love them
Same here! They felt too easy to use initially (same with Lock On rockets) but now I'm actually really enjoying spraying them into crowds and on Knights/Barons. Lots of damage! But also self-damage.
I actually did an "unfavored mods run" a while ago too where I limited myself to Lock On instead of Remote Detonation, Micro Missiles instead of Precision Bolt, etc etc, and it actually made me a better player! I've been missing out on a lot of strategies!
The more I watch your content, even though I play on no level similar to yours, it just makes me realize that I'm actually not bad at the game, I just need to readjust my thinking every now and then. I played on nightmare at the lowest from the start and I never felt the game was unfair. There were arenas where I had to retry a few times, but lowering the difficulty never even occurred to me

this video is great! i just finished TAG on nightmare, id consider myself an intermediate player. alot of the things you said in this video are perfect goals for me to work on. I really enjoy how at one point your playing "footsies" with the revenant to make him wiff then wiff punishing him. this game's mechanics reminds me so much of a fighting game, it scratches that fighting game itch while being in an FPS space. such a fun game, looking forward to what comes next.
btw, this holt gate is no joke, lol. much fun trying to get through it before they change it.
This is the video I needed. I'm maybe 15-ish hours into the game on my first playthrough (on HurtMePlenty) and gradually getting used to my keybindings (Mayo's modified 2021 set, which I do like). Still trying to raise my overall dps to delete some of the meatier demons more quickly. Needed the grenade and swap buffering tips in this video, thanks!
2:24 As much as some folks don’t like the platforming it definitely does teach you the advanced mobility mechanics you’ll need at higher difficulties, and eventually becomes a non-issue once you’ve mastered it
I always try to finish an enemy off by meathook ssg to get the extra armor. Huge lifesaver on UV and higher, especially for new players/first playthrough

@@12345scary most of the times that I died on my base game un run were either on cultist base or the doom hunter base. As for the dlc I didn't really die that much on the blood swamp but i believe it was mainly because I got better at the game. As for first playthrough blood swaps is definitely harder because you get very easily overwhelmed.

my school has 250 high school students, and i'm the only who plays Doom Eternal. Once, i showed Doom Eternal to a group of 6 friends, they all said "wtf is going on" or "strange game, i don't know what's happening, i wouldn't buy this" stuff like that. And I ask myself if people are still buying the game and it's DLCs. Of course Doom isn't so popular where i live but c'mon, give the game a chance, i gave the Doom series a chance when i played Doom 2016 back in december 2019 because of The Act Man's review, i bought it for about 20 dollars and loved it. But i discovered that my classmate plays Doom Eternal and watch some of your videos, which makes me happier but he doesn't buy the DLCs because here they are like 4 times more expensive, have a good day =)

I think I discovered a new use for Microwave Beam, if you microwave a fodder demon just to the brink of death then stop and meathook them they go in to glory kill state. This also scales slightly within the fodder rank, basic zombies can be hooked and glory killed at half heath while mecha zombies need to be very close to death. If theres one comment I wanted to reach mayo with its this one.
If you (on pc) are still uncomfortable with button mapping individual weapons and equipment, pick one or two, I highly reccomend the supershotgun on the most available button for movement and high dmg when close up, maybe the cahingun shield on another for defence and staggering knights, and that is all you need to start. You can keep the weapon wheel, number keys, and auto quick-swap mapping, but having one or two extra buttons for special tools can get you into the flow of Doom eternal. Eventually you will want a third weapon that you rely on a lot, and so on untill you have made your own system.
I like how I already did ultra nightmare but I still want to see what mayo has to say that I don’t know you can never be perfect there’s always something new to learn

I’m back playing video games after almost 20 years.I’m almost at the end of Doom Etermal now and 30% of the way through I dropped the difficulty from Hurt me Plenty to I’m too Young to Die as i just wasn’t good enough(weapon swapping is difficult after so much time away(PS5))and I found I wasn’t enjoying it.I’m loving since and feel like i could definately try Hurt me Plenty next time around.
Just bought the A.Gods Part 1 and 2(today:)) and can’t wait to play them when I have the base game finished(need to go back and do all Slayer gates first).

I want to point out, I’ve played this game since launch in ps4. I was horrible when I first started. I couldn’t beat the icon of sin without using sentinel armor. But over the past year I have gotten so much better. Obviously I’m not with the likes of our doom lord Mayo or Midnight but I bet ancient gods on base difficulty without dying once on my first play through. This game rewards trying new things. If you are new or haven’t played in a while do, if it’s not for the gameplay, it’s for the music.
This man deserves a raise.
I play Doom on Nightmare, but I'll definitely play the AG2 on Ultra-Violence. I made a mistake playing AG 1 at Nightmare difficulty, it was a really straining experience and I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have if I did my first playthrough on UV. Lower difficulties for the story, higher difficulties for the mastery
Another rune I like personally really like is health from blood punch, it's like a low health glory kill on demand, really good for healing and armour gain with flame belch.
If you get multiple enemies at once it can also be as much as if not more health too. Combine it with the health you get from frozen enemies and it can take you from super low to full health in no time.
i'm starting the dlc on hurt me plenty because when i first started part 1 on UV, i died a lot. so i learned

I've never been a quick weapon swapper. I still managed to beat the dlc on nightmare with relying more on movement and flow.

Just a small question, does the doom hunter take damage during his animation were his sleds comes off?
I believe he's immune for a couple seconds. But I've heard that microwave beam bypasses it with a quick shot. I've HEARD that.
@@underthemayo That makes sense since I often ballista and precision bolt him during those moments and it just doesn't feel like it's doing anything.
I think under certain circumstances he gets immunity. That said, I've killed him before he even says "critical damage" before, using ice bomb-> point blank SSG->Blood Punch-> point blank SSG-> Blood Punch. It's not a very consistent combo though so don't ever actually rely on it.

Im a boomer and doomer and play most def in a vanilla fashion. This video is a must. I can beat nightmare but die many times. I had no idea you can hold shoot while quick switching... sounds simple but the whole concept is new to me. Time to disintegrate some demons!

I picked up the DLCs together once the second one came out, and I've been playing them on Hurt me Plenty which feels like somewhere between base game Hurt me Plenty and Ultra Violence (my prefered difficulty). It's been fun so far, can't wait to play some more after work.
