HEY BUDDY, thanks for the video it is very handy. Which kind of wood is that? thanks
@@marcodimonaco4852 the frame is soft wood and the slats are beech slats 👍many thanks for watching
That was perfect now to try to build one?
Excellent video....do you have a link to the drawer runners ?
@@eddieblundell2457 hi hope this helps amzn.to/3ThO1zMmany thanks for watching
One of the best slide out beds on UA-cam using ball bearing sliders.
You obviously know what you're doing. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video and share your knowledge.
This is the one I've been looking for! I had the idea to use ball bearing rollers for better action on the drawer. Good to find a video where someone has already ironed out the bumps 👍
Great bed build I purchased a Thor scope van here in the US the bed is CRAP I’ve been looking for ideas to redo it this video helped a lot THANK YOU for sharing
I’m gonna put my Cnc to work 👍🏽
Brilliant, much better than big take over rock n roll bed. This is the way for my T6👍🏆
Now building this for my Citroen dispatch. A bit fiddly doing the first frame but the second was much easier. Fantastic video and just what I was looking for!
Brilliant, much better than big take over rock n roll bed. This is the way for my T6👍🏆simple but effective. Cheers .
Great design for the slide out bed, love it!
Love the design.
Genius system mate, love it. Thanks for the vid!
by a long way one off thee best tutorials on this type off camper bed , thank you for taking the time to re-post this ,, definetely going to attempt this technic ☺
Brilliant video
Great idea, just what I was looking for. Thank you.
Made this system for my Vivaro. Works a treat
I've been playing with this idea in my head for some time - Been thinking on 200lb slides hoping I wouldn't need legs at all when extended, I guess we'll see what I end up with. Thanks for taking the time
I must have went though every other video on your tube before I found this.
Finally found my design 👌🏼 cheers
Great Video, with everything you need to build your own pull out benches. Fabulous clean professional finish 👍 Thanks for sharing this 👍😜🚐🏕
Looks easy will be giving it a try in my mini camper can wait to see what it comes out like
WOW! very nice! Look good, smooth and simple!!
Absolutely superb,, even just with _Rough measurements_ is ideal,, this is the sort of video ppl NEED instead of the usual “Tour de-micro/Hilton” 😂 it’s all well & good seeing ppl’s great builds *_BUT_* it’s even BETTER when showed a basic ‘How - To’
A well deserved 🏆 for you ✌🏼🚛💨
Great video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience 🙏
This is such a great demo video thank you so much. Hope I can make something even a little bit close to what you got here. Cheers
Excellent bit of work. Very well done...👏👏
Brilliant thanks for sharing! I copied your idea from your first video the bed works a treat. I Made 2 benches up either side giving me a double bed when slid out. Thanks again top work.
Many thanks for watching 👍
Brilliant work pal
Nice pull out bed. Good to see a pull out that doesn't scrape.
Una idea ingeniosa, muy práctica, económica, y simple !
La explicación , ummm, ummm medio latosa.
Gracias por compartir !
Excellent and informative as always. Thank you

Great job 👏
Always a pleasure to watch. Thank you. Best of all from Italy
Thank you very much 👍
Just subscribed Dan! Watched everal videos on this concept and this one seems to make the most sense.. Your attention to explaining things has helped tremendously even for a diy-average-joe like me!
Excellent this is just what I’ve been looking to build in my T4 many thanks👍
Hello, thanks. Very useful guide
super, that's all i need.
Best one on UA-cam! Well done Dan
Thanks Ian 👍
Thanks very much for this video, I have two and a half "upgrade suggestions which i implemented myself.
1: Use but hinges with removable pin
2: The "gap" you have between your panels.... Rotate / alternate (if 3 panels) and you can slat up right to the edge
3: use plastic Slat caps .... and indiustrial strength velcro. (Cut the pins of the caps. It makes spacing easier) Allows more fexibility on the slat and if something breaks its easier to replace
Really good video this.
Thanks Craig 👍 don't forget to Subscribe.
very good your videos. I'm building a camper and the information is very important.
The best sliding bed idea I’ve seen! Will be using this in my T5. Nice one! Subscribed 👍🏻
Glad I've been able to help 👍
Class mate. I’m from Bolton, you sound like you’re not too far from me. If I was to build the sliding frames do you do furniture board? Thanks.
A very interesting & informative video with easy to understand explanation of the construction process👍
Thank you David 👍
Wow this video is super helpful! It should have 2.6 million views not 2.6k, brilliant 👍🏼
Very nice thanks for sharing buddy 👍
Many thanks for watching 👍
As always Dan..👍👍
Thanks Mark 👍
Certainly the best I've seen, thank you for such useful information. Yet to start it on my ex WAV Scudo. Have withdrawn the advert of the IKEA bed with those slats!! the runners are a great idea.
Thank you very much for you kind comments 👍
You can buy the slats for £15 and if needed they can be trimmed. But they are supposeed to bend and in this vid they are screwed at both ends, so would not bend.
@@maxpower9340 Ikea bed slats are bent and springy to a small extent. Work very well on my bed based on Dan the Man's idea. I have some to sell.
Be your self, everyone else is already taken.
Eller hur talesättet nu går.
Jag gillar hur du är i denna video, men så är jag ju svensk och har alltid haft svårt för den glättiga attityden många makers har.
Keep it up.
Brilliant design. I have decided the rock and roll bed is just not want I want in my campervan so I taking it out. I will use your design to construct a new setup. Thank you for sharing all of this information. I'll make sure to use you Amazon afillate links when ordered various bits
Thank you very much it is very much appreciated 👍
Mate, you have thought of everything. Great Video, thanks for a great tutorial :)
Thank you very much Stuart, just about to add some links to the description to help people find the products used 👍👍
@@dantheman321 Great vid, will give this a go. Have you ever looked into the heavy duty roller rails so it will be floating? No need for leg supports when extended. If not I will try it and let you know how I get on.
Does look class but with my van been the Fiat doblo maxi I want a pull out kitchen and a bed like that you made and room a fit two mountain bike at the other side bit of a list but hopefully will get it in
Wonderful video, thank you! I understand how to find the length (& make in sections!), but I'm wondering if there is an equation you used to figure out how deep to make the couch based on the size of the bed? For example, if you know you want the overall bed width (fully extended) to be 54", would you make the couch and pull-out slats to be 27" (1/2 of 54") each? Thank you!
Great video. do you feel the slat gap between the two frames when laying on the extended side? & would this design allow for a pull-out drawer on the bottom? would it be difficult to add? Cheers
Love this bed, going to build similar for my campervan. Well attempt to.
I'd just like to know what the collapsed and extended depths are :)
Thanks!
👍
Amazing and informative definitely using this in my caddy conversion. what ikea slats and runners do you use?
Thank you Dan this is fantastic just what I have wanted for my caddy maxi conversion. The detail and explanation is great. Is it possible to say what make and model of bearing runner you used as they look to be very strong and ideal for the job.
They are heavy duty ball bearing runners from screwfix 👍👍
Hi, great informative video thank you! Best best build i have seen. I wondered do you cut down the bed slats to be smaller as i can't find any the right length
Thank you very much 👍👍 yes I cut them down to suit.
Does this make a decent double ish bed please thanks. But the way forward I’ll be going. Really good
Great video! Can I ask about how you contoured the bed to the side of the van? I have a Citroen dispatch and would lose about 2 inches if I didn’t contour the bed in some way…any advice gratefully received! 👍🏻☺️
I used 1/4 ply to bridge the gap between the bed rail and side of the van. I also attached another timber rail to the side of the van to screw too. Hope this helps 👍 many thanks for watching
Perfect job, well done! I have only one question, pls answer. Are the support legs in front are exactly the same hight as the base,or they are with few millimetres less to avoid scrubbing onto the floor and ensure smooth slide ?
Yes the support legs were lifted a few millimeters off the floor when retracted to ensure a smooth slide. 👍 Many thanks for watching
@dantheman321 Amazing and super generous video! We’re gonna build this is our 1994 Volkswagen Transporter. Question; do you not run into any support issues with the gap in the slats at the middle point between the two sections?
No the system works really well. Many thanks for watching 👍👍
Hi. Hope you don't mind but I pinched your idea and have made a very similar bed. i've just published my video and I've linked up your video in the comments. Thanks so much. Fantastic bed design :)
I'm glad you could make use of the design for your camper, great video by the way 👍👍
What size screws did you use for attaching the IKEA slats?
Where did you get the front support board? Did you make it your self?
brilliant video Dan. on the front face I presume u leave a gap from floor so it does not mark floor wen sliding out ? but I always wondered will the gap not put pressure on the frame wen someone is lying on bed
The frame can touch the floor as you can lift as you pull with it being hinged at the back. The frame itself is lightweight so isn't a problem that way 👍many thanks for watching
@@dantheman321 ah yes
Great video, I’m going to try and make one for my van. Might be a silly question but do I have to add the support legs? Would the runners on there own be strong enough.
I would add support legs as the frame is wood and not metal 👍👍 many thanks for watching
Hi! Really good explained! What about the mattress? Are both the same size or are they slightly different?
The base will hang over the front of the bed by about an inch or so and what ever the gap is between the base and kitchen is what the back rest will be. Each conversion is different usually so needs to be measured to that job 👍 hope this help
Really innovative work on the slat bed. The slats you used you mentioned were 50mm wide. Did you have to cut longer lengths down? That width is used for large bed sizes (i.e. King, Queen) with longer slats here.
Thanks,
Jim
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Hi Jim, I bought the shortest length bed slat I could but still had to cut them down for this project.
Many thanks for watching
This is a great design and I've tried building this twice now but I've run into issues with wood on wood contact when sliding it out. What makes your frame slide so easily, without the supporting frame sliding against the slats? Thanks!
Lift the inner frame by a couple of millimetres that's all, that should cure it 👍many thanks for watching
For the same money you can make a rock and roll bed. Buy a frame and make of buy the cushions. Advantages, a lot more storage, easier to use, stronger and store your bedding behind the seat.
I’ve never heard of a rock and roll bed. What is that exactly? Sounds like it could be a good option.
Do you need legs or will heavy duty drawer sliders hold the body weight
I've added legs to this conversion 👍 many thanks for watching
Wow this is awesome! This has definitely inspired me to take on the task of building this in my camper. Question... how comfortable is the bed with the gap that is created in the middle of the two pieces when you pull them both out?
i was wondering about the same thing
This is awesome!! If you used heavy duty runners could you do it without the legs? Thanks
Would like to know this too, thinking of getting 225kg heavy duty ball bearng runners and would be much nice without the legs, theoretically should be plenty to hold 1 or even 2 persons weight especially over 2 pairs of runners
I would keep the legs as it is a wooden frame and not metal. Many thanks for watching and please don't forget to Subscribe 👍👍
Thanks, only trouble is I now know how badly I’ve been making them in the past :-)
Many thanks for watching

You’re definitely my go to channel and I always look forward to your next video
@@stevebrown6665 thank you Steve, very much appreciated 👍
Cracking bed thanks for sharing but could you tell what length hinges you use
Just standard butt hinges and they are about 3 inches long 👍 hope this helps
Sorry my bad I mean the rollers
@@karlbyrne6795 haha no worries, ball bearing runners on this build I think were 300mm if memory serves 👍
Many thanks for watching
Did you mention the weight limit on the rails?
This is interes
Merhaba, ahşap parçaların kesim ölçüleri var mı?
Hi Dan, it is hard to tell on your video, but are these slats the laminated and glued type with a bow in the middle of them to give some spring? These are the only sort I can see on the Ikea website. Also, with having to screw each slat down at both ends does that still allow the same amount of spring and / or does that put some extra strain on the screws when the weight of a person sleeping on the bed, tending to flatten out the curved slats, making them longer? Excellent videos by the way and many thanks for making them ;-)
Hi John yes they are those types of slats. With there being so many slats close together and when you include the cushion, it will distribute the weight onto the slats with no problems. Hope this helps and many thanks for watching 👍
@@dantheman321 That's great. Thank you for replying so soon.
Hi, can you tell me the "actual" thickness (height) of the Ikea bed slats please? On their website it says the thickness is like 2 inches but that obviously isn't correct.
Is that just extra wide T- molding for the edges of the plywood? I don't think I've ever seen quite that design before. And you may have mentioned in the video, but what is the thickness of the slats? 12mm?
Hello Dan. Is there a good way of closing the gap between the sliding parts when both halves are pulled out?
I've been wondering about that too. I really like your demo style. This is the best I've seen and I really want to make it, but that gap looks big when both sides are pulled out. If you have a wider rig maybe you can go with a single pull out?
It isn't as wide as you think but the cushions will support that without a problem 👍 many thanks for watching
Hi Dan good system👍where did you get your draw runners from?
Thank you very much, here is a link for the drawer runners amzn.to/3TkIVmu
Many thanks for watching 👍
Hey Dan! Quick question (hope so!). The support frame you were to add at the end, would it not be better to have that support frame under the bedslat frame for more support? Thanks! Planning on doing this to my Vito
Hi Rob, are you talking about the frame that pulls out? If so I have added some legs that are fitted to the front to add support. I've made this system for years and never had a problem it work great 👍👍 many thanks for watching
@dantheman321 awesome, thank you Sir!
how much weight can this bed hold?
Thanks for this Dan will use this method on my van build 👍
Are the ball bearing runners soft close 350, 450 or 550mm long ?
Many thanks
Think they are 400mm but not soft close, standard ball bearing runners👍 many thanks for watching
What is wall board and I take it lifts up with bed frame . As a new sub I'll review past vids .
Wall board is 6mm ply covered in 4 way stretch carpet and yes the bed slats will lift up to gain access under the bed 👍 many thanks for subscribing 👍
Hi Dan, great video, can i ask what finish you use on your wood please, is it some type of varnish or something like Osmo?
They come with that finish already done 👍👍
@@dantheman321 I was thinking more about the frames that you built do they get a coat of anything ?
Hi Dan - can you tell me the Exact size/length of the ballbearing runners you used and where did you purchase them .. Thank you
If memory serves they were 300mm in length and you can get them from wickes/b and q etc. Available in most hardware shops👍 many thanks for watching
@@dantheman321 Many Thanks 👍
Hi Dan
Where did you source your slides?
Do they need to be large load bearing?
Great videos
Hi you can purchase them from b and q or screwfix etc, the ball bearing runners don't need to be load bearing as there is a support on the front rail 👍 many thanks for watching
@@dantheman321
Cheers Dan - off to screwfix👍
Hello, what do you call or what is the name of the edge trim that you wrap those face panels (the panels on the front of the bed that pull out) and ends in? The trim that cleans up the cut edge.
It's called either knock on edging or t trim 👍 many thanks for watching
Thank you Sir! It was an awesome video by the way. I loved it!@@dantheman321

you said the boards are from IKEA? are part of a furniture or they come just like that?i m heading to IKEA tomorrow .that s a great idea. they look great and slim . i m trying to make bed for a Mercedes Metris and trying to keep the weight down as much as possible. thanks bud . that s great video.
The beds slats come on there own. You can get different amounts and different length so make sure you know what size you need. Think they are advertised as single bed slats and double etc hope this helps 👍 many thanks for watching 👍👍
@@dantheman321 thanks a lot bud.
If you are building a 4 foot width - do you still recommend doing two slides?
You might get away with doing one pull out at that size.
@@dantheman321 thanks!
So which bed slats are those?
They are from IKEA 👍 many thanks for watching
Do you have the link or where you got the sliders from? What’s the load capacity of these ones? Cheers
I don't have a link but I got them from IKEA because the quality of those were far superior to the ones I've used before. Not sure what the load capacity is but I've never had a problem using this setup in the past.
