Up North in the Fort Ross/Timber Cove area, I've noticed spots like this where people have taken rebar and pounded it into the ground with a sledge hammer to mark spots they climb down. Tying off on something like that makes the climb down much safer and the climb up much easier
I do a similar dropper-style rig, but i like using dropper loops and size 1 or 2 circle hooks. The fish really set the hooks all on their own, and i never gut hook anything, worked for me pretty well in big sur! nice video homie
I think NorCal cliff anglers have a lot to learn from Hawaiian cliff anglers. Kind of makes me want to make a video slide baiting and slide gaffing the north coast.
We dont get those large fish over here ( from shore) besides the occasional ling or cab to keep to keep a slide gaff. Its usually good enough to hoist it up. I do like the slide bait set up though, cant find that coil hook set up for sale here.
I know that feeling of finding a good spot and damn near risking injury to get there! That platform does look amazing and untouched. This is before the cove right? I’m pretty sure I’ve scoped that spot too but looks impossible to reach
There’s a really good spot near the first spot you were at but yea it’s like a 45 min hike down and u need ropes. At first I thought u were at that spot I was shook hahaha but yea it’s scary forsure just gotta go slow and use up all your energy
Bro me and my wife were just there at that last spot. She caught a 17 in cabezon, her PB! We saw you on the rock and I was all like I wonder who that is? And when we went up I saw your car and I was like “that’s was him!!! Bay Area Waters!!!” I almost ran down again to go say what’s up but the wifey was hungry so I had to dip.

I like that they hook themselves. Used bait hooks for some time and lost fish!
Dang that hike down is crazy! Great catches and helpful tips
what rod and reel are you using. id like to get started rock fishing in the bay area with an inexpensive set up

Awesome video man! I tried out Monterey today and unfortunately didn’t hook up, gotta keep looking for spots!
Nice drone shots
