Hi Brian. Thank you for your comment. I understand that my channel is not for everyone and there is NO WAY that I can please everyone. There are many other UA-cam channels out there that take a different approach - which is great! - because wouldn't the world be a boring place if we all did the exact same thing. I appreciate you checking it out though, and Merry Christmas to you and yours! :) To anybody else reading this - You are not forced to be here, you don't have to watch my videos if you don't like them! :) It's easy to just scroll on by! ( I think ?)
@@marriedwithsmallengines I love your channel exactly because of your style and you have so much explaining in your videos. That's why you are THE FIRST AND ONLY channel I'm paid member..
Ah, yes, because clearly the real crime here is being both entertaining and talkative-how dare she steal the spotlight from your concise and informative videos! How do we view them again?
Happy Holidays, Everyone! I am SO glad that you could stop in! Christmas is almost here and I am planning to spend a lot of time over Christmas with YOU! I hope you enjoy this story about a Stihl MS290 that gives all that it has to give! I will also take you on a short tour to a part of the chainsaw crypt that you have never seen before! Over Christmas holidays, Tyler and I have plans to revamp my filming studio a wee bit - stay tuned for that! I appreciate you being here and watching! I know it's a long one! (sorry!) Please click the "like" button AND tell me in the comments - what are Christmas plans? Will you be cutting wood? Working on your chainsaw? Watching You Tube videos? See you all again, real soon! Take Care, Erica.
Thank you for posting this excellent video. I think your customers are very lucky to have you servicing and repairing their saws. You tell them your findings and that, in turn, helps educate the customer and show them how to reduce downtime and repair costs. I can just imagine this customer turning around to the crew who he employs and saying, "Hey, you have to use real bar oil on all these saws, not two stroke oil. Always carry enough bar oil for a day of work. Also, be careful not to put the chain on backwards or you will destroy the saw engine. Let me show you how to put the chain on correctly....". You could even tape a sticky note to the bar oil tank, "use bar oil only, not two stroke oil", and on the fuel tank, "Make sure you don't have water in the fuel." Something like that.
Very nice vid……. Don’t mind the extra time, it makes your vids that much more interesting!!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Erica and to all of your family!!!!
Seasons greetings from Ireland. I came across your channel when my 291 prematurely collapsed its needed bearing and broke a clutch spring. I really enjoyed your channel, so informative and I have learned how to properly maintain my saw. Thank you and I plan to binge watch your videos over the Christmas period as well as try out my new 661 on two huge beech trees that fell in a recent storm. Happy Christmas to you and your family.
Hello Yes another 1 hour Video, i liked it and the Story. I dont need the explanations because iam a car mecanic for 36 Years, with much Chainsaw experience. But, and here comes the but, i like to hear other opinions for technical problems. We all can learn, when we hold together in these days. When you stop to getting better every day, you started to getting bad! Thank you so much. Another thing, here in Germany Stihl Dealers are not allowed to sell Parts Online and ship it, Only over the Shopcounter. I dont know the Canadian rules, but here you have a problem. Just FYI
Erica, don’t be too hard on yourself. Your videos are excellent. Well filmed, informative and easy to follow. Us regulars enjoy the commentary and your wry sense of humour. Now, when’s the Hornet Christmas special showing?
I hate to say it, but I think people need a license just to own and run a chainsaw. It amazes me that so many people just don’t know anything about equipment such as chainsaws, yet they own them and destroy them. But on the other hand, we have this amazing lady that is talented and shows her expertise on repairs. So in that regard, keep them coming because your one of just a very small few on UA-cam that know what your talking about and have become very proficient in your craft. Keep up that great job, blessings from Florida, and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Replacing the 8T spur sprocket with a 7T was a good idea. It'll help that poor saw cut a little easier. Love your humor and your style! Keep up the great content!
Gets expensive if their using 2 stroke oil instead of bar oil. I used used hydraulic oil once, wrecked my oil pump. You soon learn to use the proper stuff. Investigating what is causing issues makes you a better mechanic. I wonder how many people saw you turn the screws anti clockwise before you tightened them. That was a tip I was given years ago, it’s a good tip. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas
I noticed the walk to the shop coffee cup and then swapped over to the in the shop coffee cup. LOL!! When other people use your stuff anything is possible. My OCD would drive me crazy to have the wrong cover and bar nuts on something I own. Nice investigative work!!! Thank you and hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas.
Looks like your forensic investigation has revealed to me that one saw with bar oil and two saws with 2-stroke oil for bar oil indicates that it was just a matter of time they would have run out of 2-stroke oil for the gas mixture and inevitably ran straight gas and grenaded all three saws. This video would have taken a completely different turn had the owner not brought them to you when he did. Wonderful outcome saving three more from your saw graveyard! Love your channel, Merry Christmas to all of yours.
I have tried to order some of the Stihl tools from the local dealers and they list them as "dealer only" and will not order. I'm VERY interested in purchasing things from your website - that is a fantastic idea! I find your videos GREAT!
Good morning, getting to run a saw with sun shining in the background, that first saw has had a rough life and is on its way out,sad to say, thumbs up great video
First off, I get a big kick of how you snap your glove when you put it on😅! This guy should give his employees a crash course in basic chainsaw operations. I bet he has another chainsaw with the wrong cover! Dont the covers have part numbers on them? I would say that your videos are top notch, from camera visuals to your explainations.in my opinion, this channel is the best for trouble shooting and maintenance. Thanks for another great video. Keep it up❤! Holiday greetings to you guys.
Excellent video! As others have mentioned; some dealers simply aren't cooperative when it comes to parts/tools.....as their way of "requiring" you to use them. However, there are (probably more, but definitely) really two different markets: folks who want to turn wrenches, and those that don't/can't [& put chains on backwards/run used motor oil for the bar, etc]. A good friend of mine ran the local saw shop; but unfortunately, he retired and it closed. This has made getting a simple bolt/screw/part difficult.....so I would absolutely welcome the ability to shop online if you're able to swing it. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Definitely 2 stroke oil, no problem with my dealer ordering anything I give a part # for. Another successful chainsaw repair is in the books! Merry Christmas
I really didn't hear any points that u were talking off of the subject. Someone needs to explain to people how they're supposed to treat their chainsaw. I know a lot myself but I've learned a lot through your explaining how things work and how u do it. Great Job i think Erica !!!¡ i wouldn't even acknowledge comments that are negative. Some people are just Negative about everything they come across. Keep on doing like u been doing.

Love the 290 the shutter for summer winter also has a rubber flap to the right of the spark plug to gain access to the head for bringing heat to the carb through the shutter. Never needed it though. Setting the shutter alone doesn’t serve a use case.
I commented on that earlier. The 7T spur sprocket doesn't need as much torque from the saw as the 8T, so it's really appropriate for that abused P&C. And she put on the narrow kerf Stihl 23 RS Pro chain (3690-xxx-00xx) which requires less power to run. So she's giving that saw every chance to succeed given its abused condition.
A little knowledge goes a long way. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Please ignore the haters, I enjoy the chat. I have no idea why anyone would complain when they can just stop watching. Then again, maybe it's not a lack of knowledge problem for them, but a lack of ability to acquire it? 🙂
What a fun video !! still lmao about the 2stroke oil.. the chain backwards is an alaskan hack to cut sheetmetal / roofing , if u have no other way to cut . But i doubt it was deliberate in this case.. lol Happy holydays !!!
Not much blue haze smoke coming out when you were running the 291 at first, around 12:50. Might have been good for the operator to have put some of that 2 stroke bar oil in the gas... 8^) re reversed chain - you gotta wonder about an operator that would do that. Especially since there's no reverse gear on a saw...8^) Darwin was right. Liked installment 1 of Tales from the Saw Crypt. I think this owner needs to hire a better set of saw monkeys... Cheers!
Mike Acres site has the Poulan 3000 listed under Poulan/ weed Eater era, first built in 1986, green if made in U.S. Orange and Black if made in Canada. 49 cc saw.
Hi, How are you doing today? I am doing pretty good myself. Yes, I think that the website is a great idea. I have noticed you forgot a couple of things during the video. One being what used part you were looking for and the other being showing us the other chain saw. Just a tip: Do you ever write small notes on to you hand with a pen or marker to make it easier to remember things on your self? I do all of the time. I hope that you take care until next time!
Great video! People complaining just don't get it. I work for a small business and you have to walk the fine line between what the customer wants/is willing to pay for and what really needs to be done. Sometimes these things are not the same. People bring stuff to a shop because they can't fix it themselves. If they don't want to pay they shouldn't hire an expert. They are paying for your knowledge more than anything else. I'd be curious to know how long this would have taken you if you weren't shooting it. I don't think it would have been long, and time is money. I'm actually more interested in the older saw that that that guy brought in. I get that you're a Stihl dealer but the subtle differences between manufacturers are interesting.
Love your chainsaw videos. I like how you will work on Husqvarna or Dolmar even if it's not your forte, and step out of your comfort zone. One question, what does a normal service consist of on a chainsaw?
G day Erica. I have experience with lawn mower backwards. I didn't think chain would drive on backwards! That might be good idea with parts, Keep watching or observing for ur self I just can't get over how them little engines can rev out so much 10-12,000 rpm Well Merry Christmas & healthy new yr. Ths Pioneer was made in Peterborough
Erika - I really enjoy your videos, I have a question for you. On the MS250, the newer ones have gone to the .050 gauge bar and chain vs the older style .063 bar and chain. I assume this is to make the saw lighter. What are you thoughts on the cutting ability of them compared to one another. Is it somewhat similar to a thinner kerf table saw blade vs the thicker standard blade? I appreciate your thoughts.
Chain on backwards, more evidence that good help is hard to find, yes Stihl saws aren't cheap and it would chap my butt to know chain was on backwards.
I told you a few months ago that NGK spark plugs come gapped from the factory and that's why they have the paper ring in the box so the gaps don't change in the transport...
I had a later version of that poulan saw my dad got me into the 3400 series back in my late teens the 3000 I had was all plastic bar cover no chain brake think it’s still in my old parts pile back east in Pennsylvania I’ve never seen a red poulan other than the sears ones they made that was like a clone of the poulan saw enjoyed the video today have a Merry 🎄 Christmas
IN FAVOR OF BACKWARDS CHAIN: Chains installed backwards are more tolerant of tough cutting conditions such as “rocking” the chain (aka “bucking”), cutting nail-filled scrap lumber (“recycling”), roofing demolition, removal of concrete formwork, etc. Also, backwards chains are generally safer to handle, since they have no sharp corners like on regular chains. And of course BC’s never need sharpening - saving money, time, work, and even more money. Chains which have been properly installed (“forwards”) quickly become dull under such tough cutting conditions. So why bother, just install chain backwards.
the chain was the first thing i noticed .... im looking these movies linke you look at the saw the bar oil ... look likes dreft ( a product to do disches bij hand)
To much talking off subjects

That air filter cover was for an 029. The Ms290 had reshaped covers starting in 2002. The summer/winter block was also in backwards.
Merry Christmas keep up the great work

I am interested. great video and I learned some new things today and I want to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas I all love all ur content
I noticed 7 teeth on the replacement drive sprocket and 8 on the original one. Is this correct for a .325 chain? What was the original?
And yes, today I filmed, cleaned up cut logs and have some more trees to clean up for my own chainsaw content. Keep up the great work!

Love your chainsaw videos. I like how you will work on Husqvarna or Dolmar even if it's not your forte, and step out of your comfort zone. One question, what does a normal service consist of on a chainsaw?
Owner gets a d- ? At lease he or she didn’t put the gas in the oil tank. Happy holidays great video.
G day Erica. I have experience with lawn mower backwards.
I didn't think chain would drive on backwards!
That might be good idea with parts, Keep watching or observing for ur self
I just can't get over how them little engines can rev out so much 10-12,000 rpm
Well Merry Christmas & healthy new yr.
In Canada, our saws are sold with .050 chain.
.063 seems to be an America thing.
I’m not sure why, but someone on here will know.
I guess you have to be careful about calling your customer an idiot because they’re probably watching.
Hello!! I'm here!! Gonna interact during the video as usually...
Yah, you are going to love this one! lol
@@marriedwithsmallengines I already do...
Erica Does This Video Mean Christmas Came Early 😮😀😀😊❤️😇
Merry Christmas!
So why bother, just install chain backwards.
the chain was the first thing i noticed ....
im looking these movies linke you look at the saw
the bar oil ... look likes dreft ( a product to do disches bij hand)
I don't see the smoke, is that FD MIX??
That is Stihl mix running through the saw. (The finest FB 🤣)
@marriedwithsmallengines When is new coming then?? Could be because of snow reflections that couldn't see on camera...
His workers should pay for ALL THE PARTS and ALL THE DAMAGE they caused with their IDIOCY!!!
Word!
