you are plain wrong. Survival is about finding ONE solution among thousands to life's puzzle. Life is not about being a heavyset big destroyer. This bird has amazing skills that you cannot even fathom.
Oh my god its flapping noises! Its so cuuute! Also, I guess taking seed and storing them in wood is what they do, huh? Chickadees go to my bird feeder alot, take some seeds, then fly into a tree and come back. One even put seeds in a wooden telephone pole in the end of my drive way!
I meet and feed chickadees in my snowshoeing trails up in eastern Quebec and they make your day. I named my favorite one Beatrice. It never hesitates to come in my hand. It could be a male and it could be a different one at times, but I like to think that it's the same one. Brings sunflower seeds.
So cool! I found a tree trunk with some holes in it and I always wondered who lived there...Well, I stood in front of it the other day, and these little guys came flying out. They were super curious...I didn't know what they were at first, had to look them up...Of course they are black-capped chickadees :) They don't seem to mind me coming around, they all come out to say hello. At first they did that warning call thing though (the chicka-dee-dee-dee-dee haha) but now it's all friendly! I leave bread for them sometimes, they always come and eat it really fast. I am not sure why but they seem to be the friendliest species of wild birds I've ever come across.
Great story about the chickadees:) I have never actually seen where they lived so I was happy to hear you saw them come out of a tree. They love unsalted peanuts the best. That's how I got them to land on my hand:D Thanks for watching and commenting:)
Ahhh hah, that would be the white- throated sparrow....they are amazing ground birds....I just learned to whistle their song recently and they actually come right up to me:)
Scott Hunter same I live in Michigan to but if u want to get the cool woodpeckers feed suet for downys or peanuts for the big ones like red bellies or yellow shafted flickers
YES!!!! That's it!!! lol...I knew when you replied so fast earlier that I was really close to finally finding an answer!! Thank you so much!! It was the one bird in my neighborhood that I couldn't identify by sound growing up! Gotta love the internet! lol
This is so adorable. We put up a decorative bird house and the chickadees have made a nest inside. You can put your hand right up to I think it's the female and she doesn't even move. I am going to try doing this with food. This is definitely a feel good video!
I love this and wish I could get my black capped chickadee to eat from my hand I have about one hundred plus wild birds five feeders! bird houses and enjoy watching them but there is that one little chickadee who is not afraid of me and I hope he lands on my hand some time. Only an idiot could thumbs down on such a mild subject as a chick so ignore it.
I'm happy to finally uncover the mystery bird:) You are hearing my friend lil Tweeps the rufous-sided towhee. They winter down south and return to the northeast in April:)
Half of my tiny backyard is devoted to pollinators and the other half birds, so I'm out there a lot. The birds seem used to me being out there and just go about their business all around me. I have chickadees but none of them will eat from my hand....lucky you!
You will have better luck in the winter...Normally late spring through summer the chickadees leave me alone...The first time one landed on me was during a week I didn't fill the feeder...I stood by the feeder with shelled peanuts in my hand until one was brave enough to land on my hand....soon other chickadees see its o.k to hand feed...in the spring they bring their kids to your hand:D Thanks for watching and commenting!:) Good luck:D
When the food runs out of your feeder put some food in your hand and hold it up high...it didn't take long for the chickadees to feed from my hand...it's really easy unless your have a real anti social chickadee:D...anyways...I wish I could brush my red squirrel with a paint brush!:D
Hey Seahue, That's fantastic you have known this chickadee for 2 years, I love it, I wish I could feed mine by hand, gread video too as always...thanks.... Kym
I have a pair of these and many times they will seem to call at me when they want food. Usually they will sit and watch while I break peanuts for them and when I step away, they come and get a piece, and I came to your video to learn how to call them for food. I hope it works for mine. I think they are the same kind of chikadees.
Great video! I have been working very hard, trying to get my chickadees to eat food from my hand, but it has been difficult! I won't give up, though, because I think it is a matter of building trust...
I think i once squandered a chance to make friend with a chikadee that seemed to have come to chat with me while i was refilling the bird feeder. I moved my arms and it flew away.
I had two instance where both a chickadee and titmouse landed on me. The titmouse landed on my shoulder while I was sitting on a bench by the birdfeeder... the Chickadee landed on my thigh while sitting near the same spot. He landed on by my kneecap. Looked up at me and then flew away.
I tried to hand feed the Carolina Chickadees here in Texas and they never come to take their food. I guess the Black-Capped Chickadees are more bolder.
I'm jealous. My local chickadees let me get extremely close to them, they land at my feet or on the windowsill when I'm watching them, yet they won't eat from my hand. They just sort of stare at me and cock their head.
PS - I thought I was saved when I saw that there were apps for identifying bird songs - but one is a library of songs that you'd have to sift through(BirdJam), and the other more promising one - because it works like SoundHound, Shazam, or MusicID - WeBIRD, is still in development - but has a Spring '12 release - so fingers crossed that it comes out soon lol
+seahue I liked the music. Chickadees like to come to my yard. I love the little beeping sound they make. There's a video here of their different calls.
Love the chickadee....my favorite bird type....They seems to trust humans and they dont take any crap from the bigger birds....cool video
I love how when you whistle, he whistles back as if to say "I'm here!"
Great Video, Its a fantastic feeling having a little bird sitting on your hand.
I noticed there are 5 thumbs down. Who does that? Chickadee haters? There's some weirdness out there! Great vid Seahue!
Steve Woods I know right? What exactly is there to hate- I don't get it
They could be hawks? :D
Just a bunch of brown headed cow birds Steve Woods, that's all!
Spicetruck (Nari)
Lol
Probably because of the music....
It's so amazing that something so tiny and fragile can survive in this world today. God is great
Stop it! There is no silly god!
You don't think Atheism is a god?

every time i go to the park chickadees are flying out of the trees landing on my shoulder, my cell phone, my hands. they're really awesome birds!
Played this to a chickadee in my garden and he sang back the same song really loudly and continued for the next 10 minutes
I was trying to call chickadees with this but then the music started 😭
Oh my god its flapping noises! Its so cuuute!

These are beautiful friends, they come to visit, watch me... they amaze me... it's so easy to love them.
They're so friendly.
Google chickadees. Are quite an amazing bird. You can't remember how much food they have to eat everyday but it's a lot.
So cool! I found a tree trunk with some holes in it and I always wondered who lived there...Well, I stood in front of it the other day, and these little guys came flying out. Awesome footage, these birds are amazing. They're all around in the woods by my cabin in Michigan. Have to try feeding them now.

You are very lucky to have that bird befriend you like that Seahue. Fantastic that he can trust you like that to land on you :-) Very cool
You are the Bird Whisperer!
Great job, I have chipmunks that will sit on lap shoulder/hand, but a bird to eat out of hand is amazing
cute video. Black capped chickadees are one my favorite birds, as well as northern cardinals. Love the song you put in by the way. Kick a** beat. :)

OMG! Are you a princess or something?...
It took me awhile to realize they aren't flying away from YOU when eating... they are trying to avoid other birds coming after their meal.

Awesome.. I found 2 in my house in last year.. still have no idea how they got in lol...
The towhee keeps getting closer too
I do this on my deer stand to pass the time. My hunting buddies think I'm "off".

I live in an area where the Carolina and Black Capped ranges overlap, so I can't say for certain which kind we have.
that's nice music too! (:D

Why not?
