Septuplet Cheetah Cubs Born!!

- The Metro Richmond Zoo is pleased to announce the birth of 7 cheetah cubs! Vaila, a second time mother, gave birth to septuplets on November 30, 2018!
The Cheetah is Africa’s most endangered cat, and the wild population has drastically declined from 100,000 to only 7,000 individuals.
This is a very special birth to us because not only is it a big boost for Cheetah conservation by increasing the captive population, but also a cheetah having 7 cubs at once only happens 1% of the time! In addition, the sire is Kalu, a first time dad who was born and raised here at the Metro Richmond Zoo.
The Metro Richmond Zoo works with both The Association of Zoos and Aquariums and Zoological Association of America cheetah conservation management programs.
All 7 cubs have had several checkups and their first set of shots. They are in great health and growing fast!! Vaila and cubs are currently in our cheetah breeding facility and are not on exhibit; however, we plan to move them into the zoo sometime in March. We will make an announcement when they can be seen on exhibit.

These are 7 cute and sweet little angels. What's even better is that all 7 cheetah cubs are in good health. God bless Mama cheetah and her cubs. What a beautiful family.

That Momma is quite fertile! This is her second litter of 7! Metro Zoo is definitely doing their part to repopulate the cheetah! God Bless and keep up the good work!

46 cubs and nine litters... Great! This is for conservation though, right? How many of those make it into the wild back in Africa? The answer should be "all" if the purpose is to keep the species alive. Right?
My thoughts exactly. Zoos exploit these animals for profit and don't help real conservation efforts, which is getting and keeping LAND for wild animals.
Wow! Subscribed! Now, if only the Columbus Zoo had the same success, it would be a win, win! I so want to meet and befriend a Cheetah in captivity. That's a dream I've had since Holly Hunter educated me about them back during the 90s.

Cheetahs run free on tens of thousands of hectares. It is SO CRUEL to have them in tiny enclosures imprisoned like this. Send them back to Africa and release them to live their lives free.
Do you train them for survival and then release them into the wild? If not, then what's the flippin point? Keeping them in a zoo in the US won't do jack for their conservation...
