I have the feeling that if Angelina's team wanted 'You Say' to be on the new album, besides facing all the logistical/legal matters their hope would have been to minimize the exposure her version would get so as to not take some attention away from the album. Well, I could understand that but, to the contrary, it doesn't matter how many times I hear Angelina sing 'You Say', if I know it's on the album I will probably buy "more' albums so I can give them to people in my family as gifts for special events.
Angelina's performance was spectacular. I hope with all my heart Lauren appreciates Angelina's version and that someday they will sing it together at a live Concert somewhere. It would raise the roof and there wouldn't be a dry eye in the house!

Robert, you're probably right about legal and copyright concerns. She recently said that the album was done, and that it's all new music, her own, probably in collaboration with some members of her team. I read somewhere that sometime in late April they will release one of the new songs, and that the album won't be available until the fall. One wonders if there will be a release party or concert in LA for the album. A tour? Who knows? Would love to hear her live in person!

@Mensey Tunes that's good,,, but, imo a great song is one that is a hit you would play in your head without conscious thought, Beatles songs come to mind. That song is different for everyone but some songs rise to the top, and some songs don't. That's the risk of putting it out in the public. When Angie sang her song A Million Mile Away it was touching and many people could relate, but for the greater amount of people it easily slipped out of their mind. It wasn't an infectious melody. Now take Don't Worry Be Happy it stuck in my head because of its powerful hook. Creating music that becomes the wallpaper of your life because of the melody or words, better yet achieving both is not easy. Now Angie singing You Were Always On My Mind written by Willy Nelson had all the elements, and it became one of the most memorable songs she ever sang imo. Linda Ronstadt also had that magic. Blue Bayou had the magic, and she didn't write it. But the song combined with her voice took it over the top. I don't know if I'm making sense to you or you agree, it's just my thoughts on it.
@Mensey Tunes aside from the subject matter of the song, BR, it had a very powerful melody and was arranged just right so it would get stuck in your (my) head. And for me personally Angie's version took it to a higher level. Totally true about I Want To Hold Your Hand by The Beatles, it had a powerful hook.

I saw AJ perform "You Say" live at the end of her Christmas Show.
AJ’s Christmas Show that live-streamed on Dec 23 of 22 had some of the most important musicians of our time: Frank Sinatra's drummer for 6 years, and sun in-law of the late Henry Mancini, Greg Field has won 9 Grammys, and the bass player, Chuck Berghofer who also played for Sinatra for 6 years and toured with Barbara Streisand accompanied AJ on her Christmas Show that aired Dec 23 of 21, and they stated that she had the "storytelling ability of the greats, Streisand, Fitzgerald, Vaughan, including Sinatra, to name a few. The main pianist, a five-time nominated for Grammys, Shelly Berg, stated in all his years working with the greatest vocalist, he had never encountered a talent like AJ. Did I forget to mention Jimmy Z, the famous Sax Player who worked with Rod Steward, Etta James, the Eurythmics, and Doctor Dre, was part of the band for the show? Jimmy stated that AJ was the best he has ever played for. Rob Christie Republic Records Studio Director at Universal Music Group Manhattan Beach, California played the guitar, and was the MC of the show. Rob has been working with AJ from the very 1st day Republic signed her at age 14. (I can't list the complete backgrounds on all the band members because it would take several pages to do them justice.)

@Jayme A Thank you. These comments make me wonder if they've changed the name at Disney from Fastasyland to Angelinaland. With that said, I think AJ has a bit of a nicer tone, in this song, a more full voice, but Lauren is very close. And I think AJ does this well, but Lauren has much better diction. I feel AJ struggles a tad with higher notes and her diction suffers. And one thing she HAS to stop doing is, when she tries to sing at a higher register she has a habit of looking up. I won't insult her as to what it reminds me of, but, fortunately, I think it's just on YT and NOT at concerts.

Wow, this is awesome. I heard that she did not sign a contract with Simon and they basically try to blackball her from the industry and she kept moving forward. She’s brilliant beyond understanding. Her music is a heavenly gift. She’s 10 steps ahead of all those record labels she’s not for sale. She chose who she would like to work with. She paved her own way. Nobody’s writing her story but her.
I'm not entirely she was blacklisted for any reason, as she's been getting offers since she was a child, and then signed with republic records not long after AGT... But I whole heartedly agree she has did all the work, and owns her story 100%.

Most of the negative press about Simon Cowell's power over AGT contracts is, to state it kindly, nonsense! Freemantle owns global rights to "Got Talent" broadcasting and performer contracts. They used to be tied to Simon but it is my understanding that is now a very loose relationship. I'm sure uncle Mike had been well into contract talks with various entities before the AGT appearance.

@Tom White I've only heard 3 originals so far, all great with Angie singing, I love Angie's thing but honestly I haven't heard her write a #1 hit. All nice songs just not #1. The #1 hit songwriters are out there, she needs that connection.

I do believe she has been working with top writers I have seen a couple at her 17th birthday celebration.one name I recall is " Diane Warren " but there are others whose names escape me . she has said in a recent interview that all songs will be originals. but probably collaboration with other writers .she is only aged 17 so plenty of time to listen and learn from the best around her .we will have to wait and see , her single is expected in April so let's see how that goes .

I hold AJ's " I'm Still Holding Out For You " as her very best most astonishing vocals, for all the obvious reasons, but I also find myself admitting that THIS masterpiece may well be her very best to date. Unfortunately, Courtney also had problems with some audiences accepting her dancing and may have backed off of that (we shall see). They both have a great future ahead!

This is from an online concert Angelina did in Dec 22. There is no official cover as it wasn't meant to be released but I, for one, am so glad it has been put out there and not taken down as I personally think it's one of the best covers she has done so far.
