  • Split (Italian: Spalato) - a city in the southwestern part of Croatia, the capital of the Split-Dalmatia County, the seat of the city of Split. It is located in Dalmatia, on the Adriatic Sea, on a small peninsula. In 2011, it had 167,121 inhabitants.
It is the second largest city in the country in terms of population.
Split is an important industrial city in Dalmatia and a communication center. The city has: an airport, a railway station (a line from Zagreb through Oštarije, Knin and Perković with great scenic values) and a ferry terminal serving cruises, among others, to Rijeka, Dubrovnik, and nearby islands (Brač, Hvar, Vis, Čiovo, Korčula, Lastovo), to Ancona, Pescara, Venice in Italy. There is also a road transport junction there - the A1 Zagreb - Split motorway, the European route E65 along the Adriatic Trunk. The shipbuilding, chemical, cement, wood, fish and brewing industries developed in the city.
Originally, in Split (near Salona, now Solin) there was Aspalathos, a settlement of ancient Greeks. The Romans changed the name of the town to Spalatum (from Latin: palatium). In the years 295-305, Emperor Diocletian built his residence there. In 395 Spalatum became part of Byzantium.
From the 6th century, Salona was the seat of an archbishopric. In the first half of the 7th century, it was destroyed by the Slavs and Avars, and a new city was built around the palace. In the 8th century, the importance of the trade port increased.
In 1069 Split was incorporated into Croatia, and in 1105 it was taken over by Hungary. In the years 1420-1797 it belonged to Venice, then, until 1918, to Austria-Hungary, with a break during the Napoleonic Wars (1806-1813). From 1918 it belonged to the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, and in 1929 it became part of Yugoslavia. In the years 1941-1943 it was under Italian occupation, and since 1991 it has belonged to Croatia.

Absolutely stunning videos! I brought my drone to Rome but was too intimidated by the regulations to fly it. I hope to have the chance to do it someday!
