I miss the long videos as well, but if this keeps him making them for more years I'll deal with it.
As he says in the shpiel, there's always supporting him directly on patreon if you want the whole thing.
I cancelled my subscription and haven't watched any of his vids since the format change. Only scrolled to the end of this one to see if he had anything worth while to say about the new format. I completely understand breaking up the vids to get more views, but posting them a week apart is bullshit. You have all the parts, post them all at once. You'll still get your 5 individual views instead of one. You'll also get a lot more views on each part if people can immediately go to the next one. Making it a special perk for donations was an unnecessary extra money grab.

In fact, it's actually kind of nice to see these videos appear more than once a month. I'm beginning to warm up to this format.
I always just love how you weld something on, and then you grind it, then the part looks like it was always just one piece. You can't tell its a weld.
I never "like" videos before watching them, but it's YOU, and that's enough. "Likes" for days!
When I'm having a bad day I watch your videos. The craftsmanship of your creations makes me smile and gives me piece. Oh and the destruction at the end of the processes helps too. Thanks for being awesome.

I've been watching a lot of other metal workers recently and kept thinking the sparks they were generating from grinding were massive. It was weeks before I realised it's because I'm used to your "swords" and they were working on standard knives!
Standard knives are made of mundane high-carbon steel. Ever seen heavy equipment used to move or break up boulders and stuff? The "fangs" on those machines are made of a special, really tough, very wear-resistant alloy called... Hardox. Yep, the same stuff Michael makes his dirty great swords out of.
That's why he makes so many sparks and goes through boxes and boxes of grinding discs per sword. That's also why one of his swords can kill a cinderblock or five. Try that with an ordinary "real" sword and you get a bent or broken sword!
@@markfergerson2145 It was the sparks on standard high carbon steel that looked so large. The reason being they are zoomed right in. In reality I realise it's the other way around it's just something my half asleep brain picked up on.

Man, I relate big time to the part where you talked about not being able to get an accurate idea of what the weapon looks like. I make props on my channel (nothing as good as you) but I have the same problem. You can take 5 different screenshots and get 5 different version of what people would refer to as the same thing. It's hard to know which one is 'right', especially if its a commission piece.

Finally, a new Michaelcthulhu vid that isn't YT fucking lying to me.
Part of me wants some crazy rich person to buy Michael a big workshop full of top-of-the-line power tools and machinery. But most of me wants to continue seeing him wielding an angle grinder for all of eternity.
Thousands of years from now people are going to wonder why there are so may iron deposits where your home once stood.
I think the mighty algorithm is maybe lying to you. Your vids are satisfying because you usually take the project to completion. A tease like this is annoyingly short because it no longer makes good background, and if I want the usual experience I have to wait until episode 5 comes out and watch them all back to back with interruptions, so it's a more fiddly watching experience.
If this is being done because of ad revenue, I'd just like to say I'd MUCH prefer one long video with multiple ad breaks over five videos stretched out teasingly over a whole month. or whatever.
This is just feedback though. I hope it helps. Keep up the entertaining work.
You could always get the same experience by supporting him directly on patreon. There's more than just ad breaks to youtube preferring shorter videos.

I believe that "slight taper" you talk about at the beginning is called a "Distal Taper" which adds livelyness and reduces weight.

I just had a great idea, BLITZWING’s blade from Transformers. Pirhanacon’s trident sword would be cooler but wouldn’t drum up as much traffic.

I just bursted laughing at the cutter at 17:00 thats amazing thing. Might want to weld a bit more handle to press it down or just bend the already existing handle upwards for more power and quicker cutting. Just a thought if you feel the need to make changes to it.

Mike, nobody likes the “almighty algorithm”. I binge watch nothing. I take my time watching everything. Waiting on your videos has made my life a teensy bit less bright.
Michael: The gun blue you have in the spray can, how much does it cost and do you have a link to where you buy it from? I can buy a 50 ml flask where I live for 35$ or 700$ for a liter which I find a bit excessive, so made me wonder about yours.

i dont know about others but i would be willing to watch a "directors cut" which would be an hour plus long video with possible extra content (praying for directors commentary but i know im dreaming), posted after you post the original parts for the month... could be an even better way to monetize the channel
You should try and mention what the sword your are making are from, i had to look this one up (sword art online for those wondering). Some video or an image of what it looks like in whatever it is from could also be nice.
i would just say on this template the tip of Repulser looks smaller then what i would feel it would be but imma watch all these no matter what

More clicks more money my friend itd be a good idea maybe after a few months but im sure his videos age quite well as they all have a large amount of views despite the age of the videos but with that being said I would also like one long video for each build
He puts them all in a playlist, so once they are all up you could watch the playlist with autoplay on and it essentially would be like one long video
Nope, he's made the long format Patreon exclusive now. Gotta pay to watch the older style of video.
Forget the computer Algorithm. It doesn't know what made your channel good in the first place. Bring back the long videos I say.
It's also about maintaining a reasonable income remember. And for that weekly 20 minute videos work better than monthly hour long ones. We can still get the full thing on patreon for as little as $1 I think.

Curious question, other that the obvious cost of a CNC machine, would there be any down sides to the pre-assebmly piece cutouts as opposed to using the cutting wheels? Is there a loss of intricacy, heat affected zone impacts or other?
