I've got to say, with all the other madness and divisiveness in the world right now, this one guy making giant swords, (sometimes with the whole family!) is genuinely one of the more wholesome and comforting things out there. I'm glad you're back man.
@@thedyingmeme6 Yes. Although technically speaking, the name "Battlebots" just refers to the TV show, rather than the wider sport of combat robotics, but it is essentially the same thing.

I was literally just thinking about you a couple of days ago and how it's been a while. I figured life happens and I just thought, "I hope he's ok." Glad to see you're back!
I’ve been playing for honor since the beta it’s so incredibilis to see things come to life from video games and other forms of media please don’t stop you’ve inspired me to become a welder fabricator. I’ve been welding for about three years now. It would be sick to see Highlanders sword come to life.
I worked at a waterjet shop for a couple of years and we cut Hardox all the time. But, you still would have a taper unless the cuts were dynamic which is much pricier than standard cutting. Anyways, glad you're back! By far one of my favorite makers.
A window tinting fellow once took some time to show me how he worked, tint, tint-art, and vinyl stickers. One thing he did was to apply a 1% solution of johnson and johnson "no more tears" baby shampoo lightly to the surface he worked on with a sprayer bottle and that allowed him a 12 hour window to adjust the placement of the stuff and then he gently warmed everything with a hair dryer to encourage the adhesive to set. I would guess that the result varies based on the sticky, but it is an interesting idea.
Honestly, I was using my Cameo 4 to make stickers for my wife while watching your video. She works with young children so they're nice little cheapie awards for good behavior, etc. This is the very first time in ANY of your videos where I felt like I knew more about a topic than you did, and I felt so helpless not being able to point out your mistakes. There is a big, friendly "TEST" button on the SEND menu, for instance, that cuts a little triangle in the corner of the material so you can be sure of your blade depth before you start cutting. I rarely touch the "Force" setting and typically only modify the blade depth, which you can also tweak as the blade begins to dull. Also, it looked like you used transfer tape but didn't refer to it. That's exactly how signage companies would apply vinyl to something like a shop window (which I've used a few times for car decals, signs on doors, etc. You got there in the end, though. 😁
It really is your attention to detail I appreciate the most. Multiple screen grabs from many sources, meticulous tracing and outlining, undercutting to work up to the line, all of it. It's meticulous and I love it.
Hey Michael, my dad used to run a vinyl cutting business and I helped him with it for a while. When you go to stick the vinyl to your piece, you can lift it off of the paper backing used something called transfer tape, which is a transparent low-tack paper tape. You spray your piece with water, and then gently lay the vinyl and transfer tape on top of your piece and the water creates a thin barrier for the tape and vinyl to glide on without sticking. Once you have your vinyl where you want it, use a squeegee to push the vinyl down and push out all of the water. Once you’re finished, you can slowly pull off the transfer tape and the vinyl will stay behind because it’s much stickier than the transfer tape.
14:14 Use to work for a waterjet cutting company, we cut hardox on a semi-regular basis, Cut's just fine. From memory we just had to run the machines at a slightly slower travel speed than usual.
Oh, now you've done it!! Ya' went and moved in reach of MORE of your viewers! Folks are wanting to see you with their own eyes. Maybe get ya' "rip snort'n HAMMERED!" (If you drink, that is.) When laying down the vinyl cutout, and backing paper gets long, just rip it off. Keep the center, discard the waste. Turned out beautiful. Err.. if an insanely huge, totally deadly Apollyon can be beautiful. Eye of the beholder.
So glad to have you back! You were a big inspiration to me in creating my own channel where I make big pointy stuff as well. Except I do it out of wood and not as well... I even reference you in one of my videos! Anyways, welcome back.
Heya! Just a quick tip, when using the vinyl, alittle soapy water on the surface will give you time to line it up, then scrap it it a plastic scraper or old credit card to squeegee the liquids out from under the vinyl.
If you live in Illinois now, welcome from your neighbor across the big river! Hopefully life calms down a bit for you, whatever's going on. Glad to see you back.
I’m loving the look of this blade. I had a idea you could do for those spikes. I was thinking you could grind them spikes in at an angle like serrations on a serrated blade. Just a thought but I personally think it would help blend those spikes in well with the rest of the blade. I of course have no idea what the reference blade looks like so just my idea from what I’ve seen thus far.
Hi Michael. You can laser cut Hardox. 😀 We laser cut it at work 😊. 3kw Fibre optic Amada Ensis 3015. Happy to help you with any information if you are interested my friend. Glad to have you back with us again. ❤
4:15 Reach out to New Jersey waterjet. They hooked me up so many times I can't even count. I live in Chattanooga Tennessee and they were still the cheapest and best suited to cut out hundreds and hundreds of knife and machete blanks. ranging from thin 1095 machete blanks...... Up to quarter-inch and thicker super steels. Also the "New Jersey steel Baron" isn't far away from them so shipping massive sheets of 1095 and super steels .... Commonly used in knife-making... Was super cheap and more economical than any other option I could find. New Jersey steel Baron had massive sheets of the steel's I was looking for instead of trying to buy blade blanks like are sold and cut for most knife-making needs. That is such a more tedious task... But arranging it and cutting it out as one big sheet makes it cheaper with much less waste and labor hours I shipped them full-sized templates, but you could just as easily scan them in with decent dimensions and email them. But with a sword or something that big..... There's a lot more room for error and parallax issues. I'd just pay the dollar or two to ship an envelope with the full-size folded template. they even did all the cad work and everything and it was dirt dirt cheap. First batch was a few hundred blades and the price for the cad work and the water jet cutting and shipping was like $350. Which is insanely cheap especially considering some of the difficult materials I had chosen. And the steel costs were somewhere around the same. But that is freaking insanely cheap onsidering what type of steel's I got and the profiles they cut for me. Some of which had skeletonize handle designs under the scales, and precut details for handle attachment. Sure saved me thousands of hours of work and a lungful of iron powder. I was a machinist tool/die maker by trade for a while before getting into material science and metrology type work. So regarding CAD, water jet cutting, and even EDM....I had a lot of contacts around Tennessee and North Georgia where I live... But nobody could touch that price. And that's if I could even find the steel close enough so that it wasn't a fortune to ship. since New Jersey steel Baron and waterjet companies were nearby each other... There was virtually no shipping charge for the steal from one to the other. And of course the blades were shipped to me in flat rate USPS shipping boxes. So they could ship dozens and dozens for $15 or something like that in each box. They also sent me some of the larger cut-offs from the more expensive super steels. As someone who grew up spending time every year at the blade show with my parents, who were vendors and involved in the knife making industry before that was even a thing in America.... I feel I have a pretty good understanding and foundation for many things involved in the industry. Although this is not what I do anymore... And it was really no more than hobby that made a bit of money for new machine tools in my shop... I venture to guess that things are similar as they were ten or twelve years ago. But I could be totally mistaken
I didn't even realize I've missed the weird metalworking sword man. But I did! And now I'm a bit sad. Less when I imagine three more parts coming out soon... Enjoy your new home in [insert place here] Michael!

I have to wonder why you haven't got a mill, seems like it make a lot of your work much easier. Like getting symmetrical work and high detail you was talking about.
Main things I can think of him not having a mill, is namely space, cost of a mill, and he is working with Hardox so passes on the mill would probably take longer counting setup and everything than just draw, clamp, and cut, especially when he is making blades and stuff that has all those teeth and other weird stuff.
