Linseed oil is my choice, you can also mixed beeswax to get the same affect but you'll have disolve the wax with mineral spirits , so you can just mix them all together for the sprayer, and tint it with oil base black paint. Remember linseed oil drys when exposed to air. It will not come off . Thats what im gonna do.
Hi big fan I've watched all your video's one timing Chan and camshaft phaser repairs I just buy a 2004 Ford F150 5.3 and the housing right above the phaser crack it was making a ticking sound when I buy it so I knew there was phaser problem and was going to fix it when I got home sad to say I didn't make it sorry long story but why would the housing break the chain is not broke thank you for all your support in this area and all Ford's I've also worked on Ford's my hole life and don't want anything else lol thanks again
Does this stuff harden or is it actually like a grease? And how do we kniw this wont trap moisture like the rubber stuff
I have been using Fluid Film under the car every fall for years. The underside of my 2013 is virtually rust free. I just replaced my tires and asked for a alignment. They advised me that rusted parts may not be able to be broken loose to adjust, so if needed alignment may not be possible. "Live in rust belt". Picking car up they stated they couldn't believe how rust free under car was. Adjustments they made were easy.

Question for y ou, when you put this stuff one, what happens when you go off roading? Does all the dust and debri from the road stick onto to your frame?

to add to your tips. You should put a piece of tape a few inches from the end of the flexible wand so when you're pulling it out of the crevices you can see when it's just about to come out and stop spraying so you don't spray it all over yourself and places you'd never intended to.
also on the long flexible wand to keep them rigid you can use some tape and a straightened out piece of metal hanger, tape that to the flexible hose that way it's straight/rigid and you can control it in the long frame/tunnels.

Great video, has to be one of the most thorough explanations of applying undercoating. Great to see a good camera angle of using the 360 wand in a cavity to see how it disperses. Just finished doing my Jeep last week but now know I will have to spend more time with the 360 wand in some areas on the next application. A great benefit to have a lift but still can be done on jack stands and great tips on dropping plastic tarp under vehicle and also on top of vehicle to minimize the mess.... also was able to disperse the woolwax fine with a smaller compressor... working from the ground and having to spend time sliding around to maneuver in new areas gave my cheap 6 gal air compressor time to catch up running at 80psi

Another great how to video Brian. I've used Fluid Film on all my vehicles. My 2011 F150 FX4 is still like new inside and out. I really like that the product keeps creeping into places that water/salt may collect. One thing I did find is that the lower drain holes in the doors can become bridged over as the product pools and thickens over time. But that only happens if you are very generous with the application of the product, and that is a easy fix to clear the drains if it becomes a issue.

Your knowledge and experience benefits all of us. You are very knowledgeable, but you prevent things in a way that everyone will understand and you show the entire process. This is the best most detailed video I’ve ever seen for rustproofing.
I have the same kit from kellsport products and been using fluid film for years. Keeps our older paid for cars like new underneath . We apply in late spring/early summer. My thought is the rust gets activated from condensation that gets into panels from heating and cooling cycles. Regardless I am happy they make it in black now! Will look much better than that funky amber color. Ordering a pail real soon.. thanks for the great video!
Great job! Pulling those body plugs you have near the back and in the rockers, really helps! Even the doors. Replace when done. Pulling the tail lights helps get the top of the rear wheel wells too! Trucks love to rust around their rear wheels. The truck looks nice!!!
I’ve been using fluidfilm for years on everything from bolt assemblies to electrical connections that aren’t weatherpak,(over the top not the actual terminals it keeps stuff clean and uncorroded) and it can be washed off if needed with water. even brake lines and battery posts and my snow plow electrics and bolted together electric connections and springs(keeps them from creeking)it’s great to polish boats too, also on the exposed end of hydraulic shafts it won’t hurt any seals or rubber it’s woolwax aka lanolin. Another good use is on Acme thread like on vises they spin free and never gum up. Places where a light oil would otherwise be used. I use it on hinges to rite over the grease, I mean my f350 has it in the doors on window assemblies took the squeal rite out,latches tailgate, tailgate step,etc...
@ I had put Fluid Film on the rear fender wells - on the outside of the bed right above the tires - car wash would take it off, but rain didn't, though after driving it would be blown a bit and you have to wipe it off and get the dust and dirt which stuck in off...
Inside the body cavities - where I could reach with the little red straw ( and there I was wishing that they had a thicker formula and an application system !!) - it stays well
My dad told me that the US Navy uses one of the fluid film products to coat the inside of tanks which are exposed to seawater, they just dump a couple hundred gallons into the tank and then fill with water slowly, and let the salt water do the work of application ( the stuff floats). So it should hold up to exposure without something to rub it off.
It's lanolin based - those sheep seem to keep from shrinking in the rain and snow, it can't be all bad.
I do the exact same thing with Fluid Film, I use it on everything.

Great tutorial , make sure the vehicle is completely dry inside the doors and closed areas and also try to see if it will be dry out for a few days afterward . Also , don't do this when it's already getting cold out , you need some hot days to allow it to creep into seams and the like .
Amsoil Heavy duty metal protector is my go to. Actually dries unlike Fluid Film or the stuff used in this video. Applied Amsoil to my 2018 4runner last yr, one Wisconsin winter later looks great. Only a little touch up was needed before this winter due to being lifted on hoists for maintenance.

Woolwax is a great product, just did my toyota 2 days ago. FF is great but I would not do my vehicle with it due to strong smell. Woolwax has only a faint smell. Super easy to apply with the pro gun...very little overspray and NO dripping.
Good to see you promoting undercoating. I just redid my truck last week and I use NH Oil. My 3rd year with the truck and I have been spraying since day one about zero rust. I have a guy do it for me, $10 a foot, well worth not having to deal with the mess.

DAM! So glad I live in Tucson. I can see why people who live in Northeast just let the cars rust. This is a huge messy job. Sure you can get someone else to do it for you but wow the expense! Thanks Brian you are THE best!
My zone is opposite of "rust-belt", I'm just starting to learn about this. What I deal with is Very+ Modest in comparison. Nevertheless, it's the Same Story.

You did an excellent job with truck prep, I just can’t believe you didn’t use a 5 year guaranteed primer. It can even be installed with a brush and painted ( or in this case undercoated ) 24 hours after applied. Good job and nice video for first timers..
Your saving you truck for sure, glad to see this done , I have a 2011 f150 replaced the rockers and cab corners just purchased it in the fall but ran out of nice weather to complete should be on the road spring 2020 . Time off over Christmas will allow me to oil undercoat .Been doing oil under coat to my 1976 vette for 38 years I just completed a restrod restoration on it including a blue and diamond metal flake metal paint job that took me 3 weeks to spray having to wet sand every 5 coats including the 42 coats of clear acrylic lacquer that applied to bury the flake . I had to use lacquer because I became highly allergic to methyl di isocyanate from exposure to it in build box store cans of spray foam insulation applied to a boat restoration 2 years back ,the isocyanate is in most 2 part paints ,bed liner ,tire foams ,cans of insulating foams sold I dept stores hell it killed thousand in the 1980 ies in Bopaul India when it leaked out of a plant making it . So be very careful spraying 2 part paints without a paint suit nitrile gloves not latex full face fresh air supplied respirator don’t be fooled in to using a dual cartridge n 95 carbon filtered paint half mask several licensed body men I know had to quit the trade because of this stuff going right through the mask ,latex glove are useless the isocyanate goes right through latex but not nitrile. Be safe

This is a good demo, very thorough!
I ended up getting the Woolwax pro kit with the 4 bottles of black product, 2 hoses, and the better gun. I recently bought a southern truck, and wanted to preserve the pristine underside, which is a very rare sight in the northeast. I don't have a lift, so it required scooting under the truck on my back. Ran the gun with one hand and the worked the business end of the hose (the one with the single hole, not the 360) with the other. Took about 3 hours to do my truck and went through 2.75 bottles. Looks like it takes a long time to dry, maybe because it's only 45 degrees here, so I'll let it sit for a few more days before driving.
I've used Fluid Film in the rattle can for a few years, and it is good for undercoating mower decks and snow blower buckets and chutes. The full on barn stench of Fluid Film lingers for a long time, which isn't a bad thing for power equipment, but with it being more runny, I opted for Woolwax for my truck.

Fluid film is fine on rubber - they even show using it as a tire dressing on their site. If you want the undercoating to last beyond the first time you drive in the rain put your woolwax in a pot on a hot plate and add shavings of an old candle or a chunk of wax ring from a toilet seal.

Just applied the goo last week on my ‘19 F150 Lariat. It was a bit chilly and the snot was thick to spray but I managed. Of course most of us don’t have a lift so it was tough on the back.

Boston, MA: I don't have a compressor powerful enough to spray the Woolwax so every year I buy a 6 can Fluid Film kit for each of my cars. I apply it in the heat of August and so far neither my 2014 Ford Focus or 2011 Crown Vic show any signs of rust. The Woolwax looks awesome & eventually that is the direction I will take.

I use the Fluid Film Liquid AR on high wash areas such as wheel wells and brush it on. Then I use the aerosol and wand extensions to get inside frame and doors, etc. sticks like a charm.
Funny I just watched Bill (MacTFordEdge) do this with fluid film.
This Wool Wax stuff looks more durable than fluid film.
Advantages of Woolwax:
Tinted black makes rusty frames look like new.
Smells better than Fluid Film
I wonder if mechanics working under a treated car would hate getting black grease on themselves.
What about prepping the old frame and spraying Eastwood rust encapsulating black chassis frame paint before doing the Woolwax. As you know Eastwood also has a special rust encapsulating paint that creeps inside the frame.
I have a 2005 Chevy and it’s rusting in the cab corners, rockers, wheel lips etc.

Brian, I am from the state of Delaware in the mid Atlantic and we have never heard of spraying a messy oily film to undercoat a vehicle. We have good luck with Eastwood paint products such as the internal frame coating. I used it on my 2007 F150 4x4 supercrew. We have salt and brine just like you do in Michigan but only about 3 months of dealing with nasty roads every winter. Looking forward to the follow up video.
Nice!! Just booked a Fluid Film spray for my new F-150. Tests have been done and it seems like Woolwax and Fluid Film are the premium choices for under body and body corrosion protection.

My jeep is a 2015 bought new...took it home and went wild with fluid film similar to above/Nice!...Very easy and reasonably priced. I do my own maintenance etc. there is virtually no rust on treated components after 6 plus years in new england mountains...Note I do Not retreat yearly due to concern of trapping salt under a new layer...I used 2 real good coats to start...Very inexpensive rust insurance...other brand would probably hold up similar....New vehicle HIT it before getting it crapped up with new england sand salt mix crunch crunch...lol...
You would see a dirty truck with no rust . It works .

I believe that on Toyota trucks it is especially recommended for the frames
I been catching up on a bunch of the videos and I don't think I want Anyone else but this guy to work on my car! Lol
I purchased a new 2019 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro beginning of October and got the same exact Woolwax kit but used the clear. Took some time to do but well worth it. We had a snow storm already with salt and brine on the roads.
Don't have to on Toyota they use marine grade coatings on every metal part
Hype Tempo, my brother has a 2017 Tacoma and he gave the truck the Fluid Film treatment 2 years ago last fall. After the first winter he could see exactly where he missed coating underneath because there was surface rust. He hit everything again however a little more careful to avoid missing any areas. We'll see this spring how it's holding up. Anyone tells you that Toyota has a marine coating on the chassis that may be true but it doesn't work. If you don't coat it underneath it WILL rust. We live in north central Illinois.

I've watched your Fluid Film videos. I'm so glad you and now FordTechMakuloco (Also Project Farm on some levels) have taken on the challenge of testing these things. There's so many opinions out there about so many different products without a lot of real world evidence to back up the claims. in november my rear strut mount rusted thru on my 98 escort, I gave the guys who put the new struts on for me a can of wool wax spray, just looked under there today jan 30 after lots of rain and snow drive, its still all over the parts they sprayed, so i am in for wool wax, seems great.
The Canadian military did a research project on undercoat sprays. Corrosion 3000 was the most superior in almost every aspect: cold hardiness, rust protection, salt inhibition etc

Another area to be careful with I would imagine would be the radiator. I imagine that stuff would affect heat transfer if enough got on the cooling fins.
I prefer fluid film . I touch up areas after washing my truck . It actually holds up better than you describe and it's cheaper where I am . The smell fades away as well .
Is the smell really a big deal I'd think you wouldn't be smelling it that much after application right?

One important point that I did not hear you mention, especially if you leave your door panels on. BE SURE TO ROLL UP ALL YOUR WINDOWS before you spray any of this stuff inside your doors. You can thank me later.

Update Tip 2022 - I believe that Woolwax has now come out with a thinner product called LV for Low Viscosity. It flows more easily to penetrate those pinch weld areas and other tight areas. I see that Rust Check uses such a two product system with their Red can and Green can products.

This is hilarious. I just bought this same kit and did the same thing to the little lady's 2007 Expy. It's a good kit for sure. Be sure and give us an update video yearly to see how the stuff works.

gonna try this stuff next time....i use fluid film and pb blaster corrosion stop every fall on my plow trucks... works good but this stuff you can tell if you missed spots ..

I have been using Fluid Film and don’t have any complaints. I would recommend getting some spray cans as well. That way if you work on your own car, you can spray the areas you are working in conveniently at anytime.
Have never heard of this Woolwax until today but have tried a few things in the past which turned out pretty good for me. One product I had good results with was Corroseal Rust Converter which I purchased from Cloverdale Paint. I have sprayed undercoating over it and have had no issues in over 5 years. Surprisingly, very few spots have needed more attention.
The other is used motor oil . I used it on the underside of my lawnmower deck a couple times a year so I figured I try it on the woman's car. It has been a couple years and with good results considering I haven't followed it up. Gramps even stained his cedar fence with used car oil yearly, which lasted for more than 30 years and would likely still be standing if when he sold the place they didn't bulldoze for townhomes.
I use Fluid Film too on tools mostly but also Anti Seize on nuts and bolts.
Final thought...
I did not like the so called 360 spray tip. I have used a sewer jet on a pressure washer that would work way better. It spins around and would provide way better coverage. Similar to ua-cam.com/video/Q99v_DV1h4Q/v-deo.html
There is also a similar tip used by ventilation companies with compressors to blow out HVAC and dryer vents but you will have to dig for that one.
I apply the used oil to the wood trailer deck also as my late friend told me they did it at his company and thw wood never rotted

Used Fluid Film, Graduated to Wool Wax. And like the black.
Always used rattle cans but, recently got a compressor for a travel trailer and winterization of said TT.
So, will graduate to a sprayer.
My Gen 1 Ridgeline, sold to a family member, needs TLC. AKA rustproofing.
My aluminum F150 needs less but the steel parts, frame, axles, springs, mounts, still benefit from TLC...Wool Wax.
Show me rust and I'll spray it with WW!

Most techs aren't going this far on their own rigs, let alone a customers car. This video makes me glad I live in the desert!!!
looks like a great alternative to rubberized stuff that to me always seemed to be bad long term... one suggestion though- after prep by knocking all the loose stuff off, with decent PPE, use a spray bottle and/or a cheap paintbrush with ospho and spray treat everything with ANY rust, before doing the undercoat part...ospho- or whatever brand phosphoric acid metalprep you can buy locally- converts iron oxide to stable iron phosphate, and really stops rust dead in its tracks... I kinda prefer painting over it but can see where a grease/wax overcoat might be better as most folks dont see their undercarriages after 'getting undercoated'... I tend to try and prevent any issues first, look over when changing oil or in the air for any reason, ospho/paint overcoat as needed, and before winter, when changing oil, use old rags and the drained oil to wipe down the chassis...its a slow oil change, but easy to see where youve cleaned/missed, and really it dont take all that long...a hour tops once a year before winter is worth the effort

Silicone spray is great for protecting rubber parts where overspray may cause an issue. Door seals are a great example

Every time I see the condition of a car that has spent any significant time up north, I'm very thankful I live in the south.
W Sears although these oils are great preventative, REGULAR car washes are a must and they absolutely work. So many people have their car washed maybe a couple of times during the winter when they should be going a couple of times per month and ideally after the roads dry form a snow storm. I’d bet money that his 15 year old truck looked as good as it did because it was ran through a car wash with undercarriage cleaner on a regular basis.

The only problem I had was the wands to not like bending at all as they are thin walled hard plastic. I used a short piece of polytubing over the wand just at the gun connection to prevent the tube from bending.
Very satisfying to watch. This was a hell of a job. My F250 is in slightly worse condition than this. What do you think of adding a rust convertor step (Phosphoric acid). And then applying this Woolwax? Overkill?

Would love to see a video in 6 months to a year from now to get an idea of how well this lasts. They are starting to salt the roads out here on the Left Coast. Can't believe how much rust there is on the cars you work on.

I found that the best thing for rust-proofing the steel frame and other exposed parts of a vehicle is 'Lucas HD OIl Stabilizer'. Normally you use that stuff inside an engine, but it is sticky as heck and sticks to every surface it touches and is nearly impossible to get off once on. You have to apply it with a brush as it is too viscous to be sprayed.

I'm a retired industrial painter, and I'm just curious if a paper suit, their inexpensive, and a spray sock to cover your head may help. We use to use some very good epoxy coatings for steel, I wonder how they would work for undercoating? DuPont, and PPG and others make some good high quality epoxy coatings. But, I guess this formula is specifically made for under coating a vehicle so I'm sure it's a very good product. Anyway this has to be a really big help in stopping your truck from rusting out underneath, the frame, etc.. Very good job. You may have just expanded your services offered. Thanks, John
This is all a good idea if your a do it your self kind of person. I used to be a do it your self kind of guy. But these days I just can't get around like I used to be able to do. Now these days I would call the Krown dealer near you to make sure you can drive away from the new car dealer and drive right to get it done at the Krown dealer. Also like he said this is a yearly maintenance item or it's like putting your snow tires on every year / season. You can search on UA-cam for " Krown Rust Proofing - Part II The Application " to get an idea of what a dedicated dealer application will look like. I've got my local Krown dealer number in my phone so I don't have to look for it every year.
I really wish I new about this when my 06 e 250 started rusting it's in bad shape I just got a transit 250 I'm going to buy the kit.
On the F250 Ford line many years ago they sprayed a wax/paint in the door jams.Then the bean counters got involved and cut that out.those doors are still rust free,just look at old 250s on the road.I worked on a line after the e coat.when a employe truck job came by,I took a good stop rust pain on the rocker panels and wheel seams even though it didn't show a boss said NO NO 😳🤔

I just sand blasted a a truck bed last week and you would surprised what looks good, but really isn't . Zero rust, but a quick pass with the sand blaster removes loose paint in spots and one can see the metal is turning. Sand blasting until everything is uniform silver color left a few holes!
Nice work, an easy way to not get overspray on looms and wires etc is to use some aluminum, the light weight stuff. Easy quick wrap. I would also spray the oil and trans pans. Eventually, at least on Dodges, they start rusting. Damn the inside hole shot shows very poor coverage. Woolwax carries a pressurized gun now which should push more product out. Great video, I'm old enough to remember "Rusty Jones", "Zeibart" & others being pushed by dealers when buying a new car! I guess advances in metallurgy made that less of a sell for dealers, that & more profitable items like tech stuff. Plus, people don't hold on to vehicles that long anymore & don't think long term. Wish I had resources to perform this on mine!
