OMG this was such an entertaining video to celebrate your 10 year anniversary Mark! Plus, the references to Riverdale KILLED me!
The Canadian Snark Lord on full display here, everyone. Glorious.
That was absolutely glorious and mark completely pulled it off.
I actually saw Vienna Teng live in November, she said she was working on new music, so hopefully we'll get something from her soon-ish.
Great video, it was a lot of fun to watch! I understand you may have other plans for your 10th anniversary, but I would love to see you do a full ranking/roast of the 2013 Billboard Year-End Hot 100. It would be a fun retrospective on that year for pop music, and it would give you a chance to talk about several songs that otherwise would’ve never been discussed across your many worst and best lists (especially because that year predates Billboard Breakdown).
Firstly, I wasn't expecting so many references to "Riverdale". Secondly, I legitimately couldn't tell which albums he still liked or not. He roasted nearly all of them! 😂
EDIT (1/18/23): I just noticed that "all" and "of" were in the *wrong* places! 🤦
I mean, he did say that the MMLP2, along with Lucky You and Killshot are the only things from Eminem in the 2010's worth revisiting...which means SHADY XV might've also soured on him...
A number of these albums appeared in some form on his Best Albums of the 2010s video from back in 2020, so if you’d like to hear more serious analysis on the albums he loves from 2013 that isn’t as outdated, you can check that out.
7:17 as someone who loves Todd in the Shadows, awesome prediction there! 🤞🤞🤞
It came true in 2024 :)
My god the blast from the past. I wasn’t an album listener 2013 as a high schooler but damn I still remember those singles off of that Lady GaGa, Justin Timberlake, and Lorde albums. Super cool to hear your thoughts on the legacy of these albums as well as how well their sound has aged after ten years.
This is mark's best video in a long time!
I hope he will be wearing the meme review sunglasses
"Arcade Fire came back and went directly up their own asses" is certainly going to be in the runnings for the best line from a youtuber in 2023.
Hey hey hey… I do have a fourth electronic act I listen to, it’s Autechre :)
(This is an ingenuous video idea and I’m jealous we didn’t think of it)
You are so right on with the Pearl Jam thing. I LOVED Lighting Bolt when it came out so much so I wrote a review on my high school's newspaper
I have never felt as called out as your RTJ roast. I literally have a Chapo pod queued up for after this 😭

I need a 2015 version of this!
We'll probably get one in 2 years time
the woman respecter bit fucking killed me this was fantastic!!!
22:01 we're trying bro I swear it's not as easy as it seems.
This was interesting. Like to see Mark just being snarky af
This was a really interesting video to watch and I can't wait for you to do more videos like this if you are planning to.
Queens of the Stone Age one could get pretty dark factoring in what we now know about the members.
Oh my god this makes me remember all the songs off these albums you introduced me to because I was a baby with undiagnosed ADHD and didn’t have the patience to actually listen to albums 😭
Edit: that was a lie I listened to the theory of everything, silence yourself, and same trailer different park they were my shit.
The 2013 indie band/Riverdale pipeline is real and I don't know how to feel about it
I don't care if this is a one-off, it's beautiful
I’m interested to see why Pure Heroine is on here, probably because of the whole royals phenomenon, but still,I’m interested.
And here I was hoping you would bring back your beanie and sunglasses for your meme song reviews back
You know I always preferred the Alucard session of The Mother We Share over the original version
Putting my credibility on the line here but I can’t believe Save Rock and Roll used to be my favourite album
Todd said Katy Perry's Witness bombing was partially the cause of the album previous. When he said that, I thought about the 20/20 Experience Part I and II causing the bombing of Man of the Woods. Next time Mark does a video like this, I will need to study more.
God the Art POP part was unhinged
Save Rock and Roll is GOATED 🎸 🐐
rewatching this about eight months later just puts into perspective how prophetic mark can be.
21:56 yup we should.
“The acid got neutralised… by being basic.”
You were proud of that one, weren’t you Mark? xD
The fact that you can roast these and make people unable to tell whether you like or dislike these albums. It actually scared me because vessel, pure heroine, ram, and like clockwork are amazing.
9:00 I'm glad when you were roasting Shaking the Habitual that you didn't talk about the nineteen-minute dark ambient piece "Old Dreams Waiting to Be Realized" because that section has been the focus of *so much* "I don't get it" complaining when, like, its role on the album is obvious and at least "Fracking Fluid Injection" is actively provocative. Granted, I actually really like or even love Shaking the Habitual, but I also love the kind of whacked-out Ant-Zen/Sacred Bones/Posh Isolation "art gallery power electronics" stuff it's drawing on, so I'm accustomed to the kind of weirdo wavelength it's on.
I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on Icon For Hire extended, as it seems not many critics have even heard of them.
To me, they became one of the most disappointing bands of the past 10 years. “You Can’t Kill Us” felt somewhat pandering and missing the energy of the self titled, and Amorphis ultimately hurt to listen to. I hope Ariel gets out of her “pandering to emo kids” rut and writes lyrics that are worthwhile again.
"Night Sky" is my favorite pick from the CHVRCHES album.
This is really exciting!
A nice emotion to go “off” of
Seems like this video should have been called "Roasting Artists and Their Audiences" instead.
Mark we all know the best album of 2013 is AJR+MCR’s mashup “Welcome to the Click Parade” LOL!
I'm still mad that Icon for Hire never got the momentum they deserved, especially with the revival of pop metal in this decade
I love you dude
You joke about Eminem not winning any Grammys, but if you ever want to be mad at the Grammys: Eminem has won Best Rap Album six times, including for Relapse and Recovery. He has beaten The Roots on two separate occasions, who have never won it.
He was talking specifically about 2010 Grammy cause Eminem is still salty about losing to a better album(if songs where he whines about it on Kamimaze to go by)
Bangerz
Wtf u are here too

Nice
Also, while we're on the topic of 2013, what do we all think of Miley Cyrus's new single Flowers? It's currently projected to be her biggest hit since Wrecking Ball and debut in the TOP 3 on the Billboard Hot 100! I honestly did not think Miley would have this big of a comeback considering how little impact her singles have had after her biggest year yet in 2013, but hey, I don't mind it because for the most part, I find Flowers to be pretty decent, maybe even a good song! It did take its time to grow on me, and while I wouldn't say it's better than the majority of Plastic Hearts (which is EASILY my favorite album from her), I'd certainly take it over her most of her Disney, Cant Be Tamed, and Bangerz era songs and ESPECIALLY that........ thing she made with the Flaming Lips in 2015.
I agree with you on "Flowers", its a pretty solid Disco sounding song, just needs to grow on me more
It’s actually meant to hit top 3
@@jimbob2427 Oh thank you
17 million views IN A DAY.
2023 has its' first hit song, less than a fortnight old.
Last year's first hit song was pushin p.
I am optimistic.
@@juhaniaho6698 as much as I want to agree, Shakira just got 93 million in 2 days
Save Rock And Roll was good, I’ll die on that hill
I love vessel from twenty one pilots.. and migraine is one of my favorites.. good thing options are like.. oh nevermind lol
I'm surprised you didn't referred to Mark Kozelek as "noted woman respecter" as well.
16:40 wait, what’s wrong with Anberlin? Little Tyrants fuckin rips, what’s the problem?
14:34 This was dead on. So many complaints and even compliments about this group, but particularly this first record, feel painfully shallow. You can just tell they've never listened far enough to appreciate "By the Throat" or "Science/Visions" or the coda to "Tether" or the absolutely breathtaking "Night Sky" which is one of the most romantic songs I know and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. ;_; But yes, lyrically pretty interesting retro synthpop group with some slight Scottish shoegaze/emo tendencies and an incredible knack for pairing perfect hooks with very dark sentiments gets shafted because everyone ranks them as either lightweights or sellouts. Tragic.
And then their "sellout" collaboration with Marshmello ended up indirectly getting them roasted by Chris Brown and his chud fans when the band lightly criticised Marshmello for working with the aforementioned R&B singer. But hey, at least we got Violent Delights out of it...? (That all said, Screen Violence was amazing and I hope the band keep up the great work on the next album).
I am still waiting for you to take a fat steaming dump on Russ lol
Pure Heroine is literally my favorite album of all time :/
What does Mark mean when he says "Riverdale-core?" And why does he pick this particular show out of anything else on TV?
It's kind of hard to describe but I'll give it a shot: he means the particular pastiche that Riverdale has found itself encouraging in other shows and being the progenitor of, even outside of the failed "Archieverse" series of shows (Is Sabrina failed? idk honestly but seems like it): stuff like Winx Club's Netflix adaptation and the recent Wednesday. In a way I personally have always seen Riverdale to younger zoomers is to what Glee was to younger millenials and older zoomers, except Glee was way more unavoidable in the cultural zeitgeist lol. If Riverdale was half as popular you wouldn't ask this question (honestly thank god it isn't Gleemania was insane to live through and Riverdalemania would have probably been worse)
What it means for music is kind of up in the air, he's used it to describe wannabe theater kid music (not theater but stuff that appeals to that subset) but also just the general shallowness and something that feels like it rolled out of a room full of 50+ year old execs in a different way from the teeny bopper hits of the past. I guess stuff like abcdefu kinda fits the bill, just this weird detached "2 cool for u" 2014 tumblr bullshit that is catching on with the mainstream now because boardroom suits are forcing it and kids don't know any better
No idea if that explains anything but it really is a wide net to cast, but once you see the patterns I think it makes sense.
This is going to sound super annoying, but I feel like you have to have watched Riverdale or at least have a fairly robust secondhand familiarity with the series to really get it. In a nutshell: The answer to the hypothetical "what if Jujutsu Kaisen and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure by way of Supernatural and Glee?" but somehow even campier and more questionable than this would imply.
Honestly?
Between this and your worst of 22 videos, I kinda want to watch Riverdale just for the sake of watching the crash.
Only watch part of season one, if you value your sanity.
Seriously no bangerz? Easily one of the best pop albums
Eh it's a okay album imo
@@glenwarne7518 whattttt
Oooooohhhhh this should be interesting!!!
"Roasting Riverdale" 😂
Acid Rap is GOATed
Bro wut 💀🤣🤣🤣
I'll be honest, "The Monster", "Headlights", and "Survival" are really the only MMLP2 tracks I have use for - Eminem in empty flex mode has never really been my thing.
I'll also be honest and say that in my opinion, with the benefit of hindsight, Icon for Hire was never that good or transgressive even on their early records. Scripted is okay but painfully generic, the self-titled is just an ear-destroying genre pileup and not half as clever or deep as it thinks it is, Ariel's singing was always kinda shrill and got worse when she started rapping, and a lot of their lyrics about mental health and self-abuse are really condescending and youth-group-y when you look closer at them. As someone who listened to way too much Tooth & Nail back in the day, there were way more transgressive and experimental acts to come out of that label - Mae and Showbread have held up infinitely better.
I can’t stand Survival or the monster lol. But even for more conceptual/content heavy songs on MMLP2 Bad Guy, Rhyme or Reason, Groundhog Day and Brainless. But I got into Eminem for his bars and style in the first place
22:00 We're trying! Here's to the elections going the way it should do
I won't ask you to do more of this, as it never worked when people begged you to do more "Criminal Limit." Please don't ever do more of this. Hopefully betting on you being contrarian will give me what I want.
God, I hate bobby bone so much.
