    Great video, very educational. My question is as I’ve been watching several of your videos and you seem to be in favor of using the 3 “ trichlor” tablets for sanitizing. In the past I’ve only used salt for sanitizing but it rusted out my Intex pool and this year we’re replacing our pool with another Intex pool and have decided to go with the regular chlorine route to prevent rust and damage to our pool and hopefully it will last longer this time around. I’ve been watching other videos who are in favor of liquid chlorine vs tablets due to the tablets being stabilized vs Unstabilized therefore making it difficult to control the CYA levels in a pool. Not sure if you combat this problem with use of the tablets or not or how you combat this problem, just wanted to know your thoughts on this or could you make a video pertaining to this? I’m curious to know as I’ve only dealt with a saltwater system. Also my new pool has “galvanized steel” but I’m still concerned about the threat of rust. Do you have any tips or tricks to help with that? I appreciate your help and all of your informative videos. Thanks 😉

    What about using chlorine when filling a pool with well water. We did and the water turned brown. What can we do to keep this from happening?

    Thank you for all your videos! I do have a question about mineral sanitizer. We have been using a solar copper ionizer for almost a year and it's been working great. The copper level in the pool keep increasing (which I'm assuming is normal). My question is, do I need to use a "metal out" at some point?

  • @Rithius3485

    I have been doing good for my first time as a pool owner I think. I have been keeping everything balanced so far. I choose to use chlorine granules and been working well.
    I guess my question is if you keep your sanitizer at 3ppm at all times, why do a shock weekly, making the ppm go like 10 plus ppm?

    • @SwimUniversity
      @SwimUniversity  5 років тому +3

      To remove chloramines that build up in the water and to really kill any bacteria that the normal level wouldn’t kill

    • @TheRandrx2
      @TheRandrx2 5 років тому +2

      What is your CYA level? Your minimum chlorine level should be based on CYA level. Chlorine level is typically higher than 3ppm because CYA levels are usually in the 60-80 range. If you maintain proper minimum chlorine levels, you DO NOT have to shock weekly.

    To prolong pool usage in the north we have a heater. I have been told that switching to a saltwater system would be more corrosive to the heater and cause premature failure. Can you comment on that, as we currently only use chlorine?

    What do you like best, strips or liquid for water testing.

    • @SwimUniversity
      @SwimUniversity  5 років тому +4

      I like strips for ease and a big liquid kit for extreme accuracy. I like strips to get quick rough readings when I need to make adjustments on the spot. Then a nice 5-way liquid kit to test once a week to make sure I’m really good.

    Can I use an ionizer in my saltwater pool? And if so how does this affect my chemical levels and maintenance?

    • @drdrew3
      @drdrew3 Рік тому

      Every salt water pool already has an ionizer within the electrolytic cell of the SWG. That’s how the salt gets broken down onto chlorine.
      Perhaps you are instead referring to an ozonator?

    • @drdrew3
      @drdrew3 Рік тому

      No. You will still need chlorine. And then when the copper level is too high you will need a sequestering agent. Mineral systems are only a weak secondary sanitizer

    • @drdrew3

      No. You must choose either chlorine OR bromine as your primary sanitizer - not a mix of the two

    • @drdrew3
      @drdrew3 Рік тому

      No. Don’t mix bromine with chlorine water. But you can easily convert your spa to chlorine and then they can mix (still not ideal because pool and spa water are balanced differently)

      Use liquid chlorine for an instant jolt.

    • @drdrew3
      @drdrew3 Рік тому

      The chlorine won’t budge because those tablets are loaded with CYA that accumulates daily until your chlorine is rendered ineffective. Get your CYA checked and lowered

    Hey Matt. Awesome video. I’ve been watching ever since I opened our pool this year thanks to you. But I’ve had a few questions regarding winterizing such as how many psi air compressor I will need or if I will need to drain the pool below the returns to get all the water out. We have 3 returns, 1 skimmer and a 6 foot main drain. Would you know of any air compressors that could do the job? Any advice would be appreciated. Also would you be willing to make a hands on video specifically on blowing out pool lines for winterizing. Thank you. Keep up the informative videos.

      Any air compressor should do the trick. Even a shop vac can work. I’ll see if I can arrange a video like that this year. I can definitely do an animated version!

      Urine does have an ammonia smell. But the odor from a foul pool is chlorAMINE which isn’t necessarily from urine - it’s just used up chlorine

    • @SwimUniversity
      @SwimUniversity  5 років тому +1

      Ozone systems are just a backup to chlorine. I would treat them like a normal chlorine pool or a mineral system. But you're right, I should have at least mentioned them. Thanks for the heads up! I'll do a future video for sure all about these systems.

    Hello, how is everything?
    We are a Brazilian chemical industry, and we manufacture chemical products for the treatment of swimming pool water.
    Congratulations on your videos, the contents are excellent.
    Our products for the treatment of swimming pool water are 100% chlorine free.
    Since the oxidation of water is done by hydrogen peroxide, and sanitization is done by a biocide based on quaternary ammonium salts.
    We would like to know if there is any swimming pool water disinfection methodology, similar to the one we use?
    Is hydrogen peroxide used in swimming pool water treatment in the United States? Could you tell us the benefits or harms of using it in water treatment?!
