    You don't add salt for evaporation. You add water.
    Evaporation concentrates the existing salt. You add plain water to being it back.
    You only need to add salt if rain floods and dilutes your pool, or if you need to add extra water to replace backwashing and rinsing losses.

    Salt systems have cut the industries life expectancy of pools in half in order to cover up the destructive effects of the salt systems. They rot reinforcement bar in gunter pools and metal walls in liner pools. They're ok for fiberglass pools wich only last 20 years anyway so that's a wash.

    Thanks Mr. Pondiver. I'm starting from scratch with a new 18x48 pool. Do you have any advice on which salt setup would be ideal? Either the salt & sand filter combined unit (CG-26679) or a dedicated 16" sand filter attached to the dedicated salt system? (CG-26665) The initial investment is minor for me. I'm more concerned with reliability and power consumption long term.

    salt doesn't evaporate. the only time you need to add salt is after it rains. this is because the new fresh water is being added to the pool, diluting the preferred ~3400 ppm salt content. also, this isn't every rain, this is only if the rain takes it up to the point of overflow.

    I absolutely can taste the salt in the pool. Not because I'm drinking pool water, it just obviously is salty. I've heard other salt water pool advocates claim you cannot taste the low levels, for me though, it is obviously salt water.
    I also love my switch to salt water pool, the ease in sanitation is brilliant. Salt doesn't shift the pH as much as Chlorine tabs so pH is more stable. Tabs add CYA also which is a whole nother discussion. But salt water for the win, for sure.

    I would just get a Stenner pump to automatically inject liquid chlorine from a tank into the pool. The higher salt concentration of the saltwater pool will make the water more corrosive which may lead to a stained pool wall, rusted rebars, shortened life of the heater, and pump seals.

  • @cwstewartjr1973

    Salt pools are chlorine pools

  • @Joe_1971
    @Joe_1971 2 роки тому +1

    I must state that as water evaporates salt does stay behind. The only way you loose salt is if water gets splashed out of the pool. So as water evaporates you salt concentration will increase. Also if you get alot of rain and you level increases then your salt concentration will drop.

    Why does a bottle of chlorine smell like chlorine if there is no sweat or urine in the bottle?

    • @Peter-Alexander
      @Peter-Alexander Рік тому

      That is a smart question heh heh. But what you are referring to is a very strong bleech smell because of the high concentration of chlorine. In a pool we are talking about 1 to maybe 5 parts per million. So if you would smell a sort of weak chlorine smell you know these are most likely chlorine amines. Hope this clarified.

      I would use a shoo vac for saw dust, but that's out of the question so, use the Intex vac as much as you can. What you dont get with the vac will go in the sand filter. Backwash and rinse several times. I gave my pool one day to settle after I added the salt before I got in.

    I found the salt to be more maintenance. I had one with my older intex and still found I needed to add chlorine even though we added salt. Mayb I had a bad salt generator. But it was very bad for the pool . Mayb a year after I put the salt system on, the metal frame rusted out completely.

      thats complete garbage. The salt is so low in the pool it does not rust out anything. Your water chemistry was way off thats what causes corrosion, NOT salt. Salt pools have almost no maintenance, while a chlorine pool has a ton.

      @@Executiveinvestments- go look it up. Salt DOES cause corrosion. I’ve had a pool for many years now so I’d say I know what I’m doing. Thank you .

      @@magical.melody674 go look it up? You are completely wrong. The salt is so low it does not. Corrosion comes from chemistry. Obviously you have no idea what you are doing. get a clue.

      You sound like a chlorine supplier that's mad people are switching to salt.

    Can you start off using the chlorine and then switch to salt at a later time without dumping out the water
