This game was so brutal for its time. In an age when Mario was still jumping for mushrooms this guy was lopping off heads and smashing shields into skulls. He was the 'Kratos' of his time. Thanks for uploading 5 stars
The Spectrum version of Myth was one of the very best Spectrum games ever made and I still love it. I did own an Amiga but I'd never seen this version until today. I wasn't expecting it to be much good, but I'm really impressed! It's a very different game, but it looks fantastic, reminding me of Knightmare in places. I love the woman at 9:10. All that's missing is music!
Two things bother me. First thing is strictly about this game - on C64, our protagonist looks like a teenager torn out of modern world into the world of myths. Here, our hero is more of a proper warrior. Strange thing ;) Second thought is more general. It seems sort of a rule, that characters in C64 ports seem to maintain proper bodily proportions - normal head, normal body. Characters in Amiga ports are designed more cartoony with funny proportions and big heads :D That's both a case in The Last Ninja, here, and other games.
People are always going to prefer the version they played back in the day, Personally this was one of my favourite Amiga games. The use of sound and the fantastic graphics really show off how ahead of its time the Amiga was. Great atmosphere too.
Awesome! Thanks for posting this movie, dude. I played the demo a long time ago, and I remember that the music was kickass. haven't been able to find the music since....until now.... like, 18 years later. Sweet - keep the Amiga longlplays coming.
I adored Myth. I used to have it on my Speccy 128k (in fact, I think I still do!) A grab-bag of mythical moments and some cool animations, I finished it several times and always enjoyed it.
Never heard about this game, wow what a great game, Amiga nailed it again, the end boss/scene is almost cinematographic, with the plus of a 3-D ending, I can't believe how are still stu... people trying to compare Amstrad, Atari etc to this amazing computer, AMIGA was THE computer, not a computer.
Amazing game, my mam never let me play it as a kid due to its graphic nature, but my brother made me a copy on the sly so I played it more than ever. I only beat the game twice as a kid but recently got the hang of it after I bought the game on ebay. Intro music is samples from the beginning of Stanley Kubricks 2001 space odyssey with tweaks and beats so I've heard. amazing game, so nostalgic.
The copy of this game I had as a child on the Amiga 500+ always crashed on Asgard, so thanks for posting this. Was good to see it played through properly after all this time.
The Spectrum version is an all-time favourite of mine. Loved the Harryhausen-esque atmosphere, loved the animation, just a great little game. This version looks a little more arcade-y, seems to have Wolverine running about too...
It's curious how this amiga version of Myth had sound effects from the same library of Gods and Moonstone. Probably there were sfx libraries for sale even in the 90s.
Actually it looks like Myth was released for the ZX Spectrum and C64 (1989) before it became "Conan" on the NES (1991), then it received an Amiga/ST/DOS release in 1992. :) The naming of Myth "Conan" in the US was probably an attempt to make it sell more copies or a lazy attempt at filling a license. ;)
Ankalagan rocks my world! I loved this game as a kid in the early '90s when I got my first Amiga. The game was fairly challenging, but too short! I love the speech: "Come closer ... STOP!" My floppy had an error that wouldn't let me see the ending every time. What happened to "Blue Steel" anyway?
indeed. they really used the technology they had to the very best of it's potential! to come out with someting like this with a 16 bit machine is incredible! If in proportion, the same amount of work went into making the games of today, fully exploiting the machine's potential, the stuff we could have nowadays would destroy in standard any of the popular games of our current time...
Hard to say if this better or worse than the epic C64 version. Anyone else recognise a sound sample from Highlander? It's when Facile is about to attack McLeod, used as an "ouch" sound effect for the main character (uuah). After all these years I just realised that you can chop the plants in the Nordic level. Duh!
how did you get past the jackyl on the anubis level?i´ve read how to get past him and i have tried a zillion times, but nothing happens.is there faulty versions of this game were that jackyl can´t be killed?
And the Amiga exclusive sequel ''Dawn Of Steel'' was never released, I think... What is with Games and Announcing Sequels that are nothing but just Ideas
I just wish they worked on the controls alittle more, other then that this was a game i was proud to have play and had in my hands , People that didnt get a chance to play it you really missed out , Amiga age was a great time to see aton of off the cuff experinces...
But it was also due to only 4 channels for the music...Just Chris Hülsbeck made a 7 channel routine....Most of the music already used all 4 channels, so It was impossible to have FX.
@Doommaster1994 While not belittling Tel and Hubbard, I just don't believe in statements like "first/second best video game musician". They are among the best, to be sure, but so are others like Ben Daglish (Last Ninja), Matt Gray (Last Ninja 2), Martin Galway (Times of Lore and other stuff from Origin), David Whittaker (Shadow of the Beast), etc. Also, I guess you meant C64 musician, because otherwise leaving Mitsuda Yasunori & co. out of the equation is just rude. :)
Tell me what you want , but as amazing the Amiga music was back in the day , it's aged terribly. Compared to the best C64, or even Sectrum 128K tunes, Amiga music and sound FX just sound like extra low bitrate sampled music nowadays.
hand pump some things are better in the c64 version as the intro tune, and the main character looks more badass however the amiga version is obviously better in term of graphics and some sounds
c64 was less cartoony, had a more interesting MC design, and was a lot more stylized by today's retro standards. Gameplay-wise, this may be better, and the boss monsters do look cool.
I guess, but it's only a conjecture, that they wanted to do something similar to "Gods" by Bitmap Brothers so they can compete with its success... so they changed the main character, that was inspired to the guy of Back to the Future that was released in 1985 (when the C64 version of this game is from 1989).
@Doommaster1994 Then to understand my last comment, please listen to (watch a longplay, more like :)) the C64 versions of the scores I mentioned -- they usually feature _way_ better music. This is definitely so with the Last Ninja(s) and SotB. What's really strange for me, is that the situation is almost the same for the Amiga. It was also a Commodore PC, hence the same audience, and still the music was changed to something that was usually worse. Even if the Amiga had much better capabilities.
I remember this too.. this game was EPIC!! it's a shame they don't make as cerebral as this and the shadow of the beast series.. nowadays, it's all 1st, 2nd and 3rd person shoot em ups with great visual effects but hardly any brain power needed to clock them. plus they don't seem to be using the full potential of the consoles like they did then.. sad methinks...
Game that I know and can see that the problem is there, nice music and good game, not a game I buy, but I enjoyed it a look in your company very soon and I watched the game "Batman The Movie" Thanks. :)
how did you defeat the anubis boss? ive tried a zillion times, and its impossible to do it the way its supposed to be done.and i´ve read the solution for the stage in old amiga mags and on the internet,it doesnt work!was there faulty versions of this game that could not be completed due to a programming error that made thi boss immortal?
Nah, there are games that use just one channel for FX and the other three for the music... The 7 channel routine from Chris was not really suddenly 7 channels...He used some tricks...Made little pauses in one channel (I think so..not quiet sure about that) listen to turrican 2 for a good example
Setting aside the design of the main character, something jumped out at me from the graphics: what's with all the midgets? The Greek soldiers and viking are tiny!
This game was so brutal for its time. In an age when Mario was still jumping for mushrooms this guy was lopping off heads and smashing shields into skulls. He was the 'Kratos' of his time. Thanks for uploading 5 stars
And yet Mario is still around, while this game goes largely forgotten.
Innovation and universal appeal will win every time.

jammerc64 Yeah, he's a stumpy little sod in this one.
People are always going to prefer the version they played back in the day, Personally this was one of my favourite Amiga games. The use of sound and the fantastic graphics really show off how ahead of its time the Amiga was. Great atmosphere too.
One of my all time favourite Amiga 500 games
my too with Shadow of the Beast, First Samurai, Hunter.. etc.
Oh yeah! Now your talking..its funny what games leave a lasting impression on you. :)
Awesome! Thanks for posting this movie, dude. I played the demo a long time ago, and I remember that the music was kickass. haven't been able to find the music since....until now.... like, 18 years later.

Great work Webins.
You've no idea how long I have searched for this music!
Це дуже круто! А я грав в гру Conan на консолі NES і навіть не здогадувався, що то дешева підробка гри Myth.
What a game! I used tolove this so much! never finished the egyptian level though..
I loved playing this game a kid!! brings so many memories! I could never get past the forest. This was a tough game
Hold on, what?! This channel has been posting longplays since 2006???
Damn, that’s some incredible longevity…
Amazing game, my mam never let me play it as a kid due to its graphic nature, but my brother made me a copy on the sly so I played it more than ever. Myth is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME and STUNNINGLY AMAZING
as a kid i allways wanted to play this game.. thanks for uploading
The copy of this game I had as a child on the Amiga 500+ always crashed on Asgard, so thanks for posting this. Was good to see it played through properly after all this time.
great ambience and attention to detail.
Gotta agree with you on that. C64 Myth is one of my favourite games of all times.
One of the Best AMIGA,s game!
The Spectrum version is an all-time favourite of mine. Loved the Harryhausen-esque atmosphere, loved the animation, just a great little game.
This version looks a little more arcade-y, seems to have Wolverine running about too...
I prefer the intro music from C64 version.
But this is really impressive for the Amiga.
You are joking?
Two boring samples in two channel audio are not impressive for the Amiga xD
It's curious how this amiga version of Myth had sound effects from the same library of Gods and Moonstone. Probably there were sfx libraries for sale even in the 90s.
Wouah! A ten years video!
I used to love the decapitation sound effect: 'GLAAA-KE-UGH!!....kk'
Fantastic, was just discussing this with my brother last week and now found this link... Good times :]
Ankalagan will return in dawn of steel? How many years has it been? We are tired of waiting for system 3.
still waiting too...
i really loved this game! so hard but so exciting! one of my favourites ever on Amiga.
11 years ago you made this comment. Wow. Feeling old?
Awesome to see this finished. I could only even get up to the Hydra.
I know many will disagree BUT folks Myth on ZX-Spectrum looked much, much better :)))
Oh man, I had a demo of the first level and always wanted to own and play the full game.
i remember this game on my mates amiga 500 it was ssoo cool
love this rare stuff thanks for the vid!
Absolutely badass game, second only to Deliverance in badassery.
I loved this game..Amiga 1200
34:20 In the 'Tomb of the Pharaoh' stage, the background noises are sampled from the 1960 film 'The Time Machine.'
You know it may be old and amazing but it has a really long intro
Wolverine without claws?
This scared the crap out of me when I was a kid...
If the gameplay was better ,this could be easily the best game for Amiga
That was such a fantastic game, so dark and cool...I think I didn't pass the Egyptian level, I was so close...
HALLELUJAH HOLY SHIT-this video is old
Actually it looks like Myth was released for the ZX Spectrum and C64 (1989) before it became "Conan" on the NES (1991), then it received an Amiga/ST/DOS release in 1992. :)
The naming of Myth "Conan" in the US was probably an attempt to make it sell more copies or a lazy attempt at filling a license. ;)
good job on the sand level, i could never get past all those traps
I never made it passed the Egyptian level. It totally baffled me as to what to do :(
Ankalagan rocks my world!
This game makes me think of a Treasure platformer...without all the whimsy, of course.
Thank you
What I wonder about is how you managed to make the sound NOT being out of synch with the video. Quite a feat for aa UA-cam posting!
@cubex55 I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.
Isn't that kinda lazy to just remake same game with new name & chancing things little bit(to worse)?
is this the dark souls of Amiga?
Hard to say if this better or worse than the epic C64 version. Anyone else recognise a sound sample from Highlander? It's when Facile is about to attack McLeod, used as an "ouch" sound effect for the main character (uuah). After all these years I just realised that you can chop the plants in the Nordic level. Duh!
There was also an Arnie scream from Conan.
My dad plays this on his Xbox! He got to the final boss
How do you change weapons? nothing works!
This seems way more forgiving than the c64 version.
how did you get past the jackyl on the anubis level?i´ve read how to get past him and i have tried a zillion times, but nothing happens.is there faulty versions of this game were that jackyl can´t be killed?
And the Amiga exclusive sequel ''Dawn Of Steel'' was never released, I think...
What is with Games and Announcing Sequels that are nothing but just Ideas
That theme sounds like ELO's Mr Blue Sky ending tune!
Very hard game
I'd love to see this game get a remake or a sequel
I just wish they worked on the controls alittle more, other then that this was a game i was proud to have play and had in my hands , People that didnt get a chance to play it you really missed out , Amiga age was a great time to see aton of off the cuff experinces...
Friggin awesome sound in this smart game. RIP Richard Joseph...
I think this game would be perfect to port the Sega Mega Drive
Great ending animation. What ever happened to the Dawn of Steel game eh??
Its Conan from NES
Never played this but looks really good, even now. I'm getting God's / magic pockets vibes from this? Anyone know if bitmap Bros had any influence?
But it was also due to only 4 channels for the music...Just Chris Hülsbeck made a 7 channel routine....Most of the music already used all 4 channels, so It was impossible to have FX.

Thank you!!!! (Someone needs to sample the hell outta that theme tune)
Tell me what you want , but as amazing the Amiga music was back in the day , it's aged terribly. Compared to the best C64, or even Sectrum 128K tunes, Amiga music and sound FX just sound like extra low bitrate sampled music nowadays.
Though I didn't know it at the time I first played this game, it's quite a bit like "Prince of Persia".
How on earth do you cycle through weapons?
@cubex55 They also removed the final boss sequence for NES Conan.
No, it's Dameron, the evil god (according to the back cover in the C64 version)
how anyone can say the c64 version is better than this is beyond me
+hand pump c64 had the loader tune
far beyond better
hand pump some things are better in the c64 version as the intro tune, and the main character looks more badass however the amiga version is obviously better in term of graphics and some sounds
c64 was less cartoony, had a more interesting MC design, and was a lot more stylized by today's retro standards. Gameplay-wise, this may be better, and the boss monsters do look cool.
Why did they screw up everything from the C64 version??
I guess, but it's only a conjecture, that they wanted to do something similar to "Gods" by Bitmap Brothers so they can compete with its success... so they changed the main character, that was inspired to the guy of Back to the Future that was released in 1985 (when the C64 version of this game is from 1989).
This slow clunkiness is how I think of most PC games from that era to be honest.
I guess this is the next best thing for 2000AD fans to a Slaine game, eh?
@Doommaster1994 Then to understand my last comment, please listen to (watch a longplay, more like :)) the C64 versions of the scores I mentioned -- they usually feature _way_ better music. Game that I know and can see that the problem is there, nice music and good game, not a game I buy, but I enjoyed it a look in your company very soon and I watched the game "Batman The Movie"
Thanks. :)
9:28 best scene in the game.
The best version was the C64 version only because I personally didn't like them having big heads in this one
Best version was ZX's
Great game! I wonder what happened with "Dawn Of Steel".
Great game but terrible version! (compare to ZX's)
@@b213videoz Different for sure but, not terrible.
Эта игра давно играл был приставка ZX Spectrum 48k , и вот копия игр.
10:25 ugh why is that now a trend? Link calls it a smashing board once and now everyone treats it as such
Great game. I played it in 1991? 1992? Cant remember.
You played this terribly? why did u pause so often and go BACK for more monsters. Just complete the damn thing
how did you defeat the anubis boss? ive tried a zillion times, and its impossible to do it the way its supposed to be done.and i´ve read the solution for the stage in old amiga mags and on the internet,it doesnt work!was there faulty versions of this game that could not be completed due to a programming error that made thi boss immortal?
One of the guy's scream is the same as in MoonStone.
The game is good, like many, but it slows down very much, it is clear that the computer can not cope with the graphics..
Nah, there are games that use just one channel for FX and the other three for the music...
The 7 channel routine from Chris was not really suddenly 7 channels...He used some tricks...Made little pauses in one channel (I think so..not quiet sure about that) listen to turrican 2 for a good example
I Myth the days when they made gameth like thith.
Weaker than the spectrum version but the graphics are nice, and the ambiental sounds are great.
nice graphics
Great game! 34:01 Tomb of the Pharoah?
Setting aside the design of the main character, something jumped out at me from the graphics: what's with all the midgets? The Greek soldiers and viking are tiny!
shame part 2 wasnt made
Will return in Dawn of steel?
Ankalagan needs to get off his arse
One of those 'wtf-do-I-do' games. Very good but ridiculously unintuitive.
