    It's actually the other way around with the expansion ownsership question:
    "Once you’ve unlocked Weaponmaster Training in Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure, you’ll be able to use elite specialization weapons without the corresponding trait line equipped. This will be the case even if you haven’t trained an elite specialization. That means that even if you don’t own the other expansions, you’ll be able to mix and match weapons from the elite specializations associated with them"
    Oh, and Warrior is also missing the shortbow on top of the caster weapons.

      I really wish they start putting new weapons in the game for warrior. Scepter and focus no matter how you look at it have nothing to do with warrior and should not be in warrior hands ever. Rather put a spear in the game and give it to warrior

    The Staff Unleashed Ambush is a heal skill. I can definitely see Quickheal Untamed and Alacheal Druid sharing an equipment set, and being able to easily provide either core boon with the same Ranger on the same gear, which is neat.

    Staff soulbeast is kind of a transformational aspect to the spec. Soulbeast has a bunch of healing options build in with the supportive pet archetype and stance sharing, but never has a supportive weapon to round out the build.
    The main question is where the build would exist. Having no quick/alac makes it suspect for pve. On the flip side merging with the pet is a huge upside in wvw.
    It’s very possible it never emerges from the shadow of Druid, but at the very least it’s interesting and unlocks some latent aspects of the spec.

      Came here to say this. "Staff doesn't synergize with anything SB does! :C", no WP, SB merged with a Supportive Pet gains a TWENTY FIVE PERCENT healing increase. Nobody did it, because Ranger lacked ways to directly heal others, but that's changing.
      I could see it making a lot of appearance in WvW due to how insanely powerful shared-stances are. It could have some more added to it to fill out it's options a bit, but I feel like spirits can help fill that niche now.

      I'd say even S tier. pistol/torch scourge has tons of condi damage options. I played it a bit in the beta and it feels amazing for damage. Tormented and burning all around!.

    About warrior and the pistol; I think there's some light excitement around the weapon because it's fun but rarely used, since it's tied to a spec that rarely uses weapons. Even if it's not the most useful weapon, pistol on spellbreaker would make these rarely seen skills shine and add a lot on the fun factor

    For new weapons in the future they dont have to necessarily invent new weapons (whip, greataxe, sythe, etc) -- they can give new playstyles and skills to existing weapons. Think selectable skills but for the weapon slots instead of utility slots (ex: Ranger hammer in the beta you could select to have either the uleashed ranger or unleashed pet version of the hammer skills and mix & match accordingly)

    I really do think GS scourge will be awesome in WvW. Whenever my guild does WvW, we go IN for melee and I already play GS reaper with axe focus with my guild. You bet I’ll be trying GS scourge in Zerg gaming

    Ambush on dagger is busted condi attack with daze. I tested it immediately.
    UPD: No, afaik, there were no heat mechanics for hammer/mace.

    As a stuck in a rut power holo, I'm very excited about hammer holo for a few reasons. Namely, vibes. Hammer has always been such a thematically perfect for my personal vision of engineer, but the photon forge is more fun to me than the gyros. I also think that I don't love sword but can't deny it's the best melee weapon available to holo, so I'm excited to have another option in hammer.

    1:00:00 in the latest patch. You may have noticed theres a gap above your main weapon skills now, the proffession skills have been pushed up a little higher. I imagine thats for this exact reason as it lines up with the "up arrows" on the utility skills

    I spent most of the beta trying the ranger weapons and I genuinely had a hard time pulling myself away from hammer on soulbeast, it is so good. I gave up on hammer on untamed a while back, at least for pve, it just too easy to mess up the stance dancing nonsense it has going on. Either you hit the wrong stance version of the skill and put them both on cooldown so you don't have your CC or the skill to combo off of a CC when you need it or you go to make that combo happen but trigger the ambush skill which is a 2 second channel and miss the window of opportunity for the combo. But on non-untamed you can just decide if you want more CC/Damae/Defense on a skill by skill basis, it's a dream.

    Actually hear me out with Longbow Firebrand: fully ranged DPS could become viable. One of the biggest problems with Guild Wars 2 full range DPS is how a lot of the builds are focused on melee to short-range because the fire brand is melee to short range. A firebrand with a longbow can enable a small cluster of fully ranged DPS to stand out of the bad.

    Something interesting with the weapon master is that for a long time when they reworked core revenant to have f2 to replenish energy, I always wanted access to short bow (and maybe with Soto and scepter another nice range addition) without loosing access to that core f2, and in beta shortbow and log sword was quite fun to play. In eod beta I knew exactly which place to go to test builds with a decent difficulty and without being "saved" and so I did with the last WM beta, and that build was a very successful one the damage and sustain was very good using Ventari/Jalis.

    Dagger Condi Druid is actually hella strong. C Tier is far, FAR too low. It's Low A at bare minimum.
    I wound up trying it out during beta and it did an excellent job at cleaning house. The main downside is that it IS pretty melee focused, but the bonus Condi damage from Ranger's Ambidexterity trait really makes it to where Condi Druid can REALLY sink in some sick deeps with a Shortbow + Dagger/Dagger setup.

    Engineer:
    Hammer is highest power dps.
    Rifle is second highest power dps
    Sword/- is highest dps on Holosmith because of Heat Mechanics.
    Pistol/- is highest condi damage
    Mace/- is best support weapon
    I'm interested how they will balance Sword on Engineer as it is 100% tied down to heat😂
    Sword has to be higher damage on high heat than Hammer but lower damage on low heat than Rifle.
    They could detach heat from sword and add it to all weapons but would that make sense?
    Like over 50 heat get 10% more dmg and over 100 heat get 20% more dmg? but sword is no longer tied down to heat?

    You missed the best engi build after the patch, hammer core power engi! It benches 39k (more than scrapper) and will have access to a block and an evade, which the current core power engi doesn't have.
    For the other engi builds:
    Hammer is basically a better alternative to rifle in every case. If you need range on engi, you always have grenades.
    1. Hammer PBM holo is going to be fantastic. it actually beats sword ECSU, and you still get things like a block and an evade.
    2. Hammer mechanist is basically a better rifle mech. it's damage isn't bad either (36-38k range instead of 32-33k).
    3. Heal Scrapper with mace will actually be good -- it might make heal scrapper reasonable to bring into things. We'll see after it drops whether it can compete with other heal quicks (I think it'll still need more work, but good enough for daily stuff).
    4. Mace doesn't compete with pistol right now for damage, especially after the confusion change. So unless it gets a condi buff I can't imagine it getting used for condi builds. I think it's basically only going to get used on heal mech and heal scrapper after the patch.
    5. sword is pretty weak without the heat mechanic, and they didn't do anything special during the beta. unless they mess with this I can't imagine it it doing well.

    Im a simple man. Greatsword renegade 5, bombardment, and impossible odds is a lot of dmg numbers and will give me the happy chemicals

    Never tried it but i heared that power rifle specter is one of the most OP pvp builds since the start of GW2. And i can imagine. Infinite utility, defense and long range dmg

    Mirage dagger's ambush skill is similar to the sword's ambush skill but it's a projectile and gives condis in addition to the daze. You can still see the skill in the hero panel's weapon skills tab.
    2 bleeding 14s (1 for clones)
    2 torment 9s (1 for clones)
    daze 1/4 seconds
    Like-wise you can see the unleashed ambushes for staff and dagger on ranger. But can't see the malicious stealth attacks for scepter and staff on thief. (iirc on staff it gave you self quickness, but scepter I think was just a stronger stealth attack)
    Also a funny thing, warrior/berserker's dagger burst skill is still usable in game right now, and was before the beta was live. It's just hard to actually use since you can't use the weapon skills for it at the moment.

    I think the best solution to those classes carried by their weapon is the following:
    - Nerf the elitespec weapon to be in line with vanilla options.
    - Replace the elitespec "You can now use x weapon" trait with a trait that instead just unnerfs the weapon.

    I still hope to see Dagger, Focus, and Staff for Engineer eventually now we got a bow type weapon out of the way considering how classic tech Arrows are in Fantasy games when it comes engineering skills to craft specific special arrows though normally it is a Thief/rogue/archer thing depending on the Fantasy game.
    Dagger can be like a multi-purpose switchblade but with different blades for different effects.
    Focus is something that have been unappreciated for a long time now by the developers but it always has some potential for Engineer such as acting as a Tech gauntlet theme off-hand weapon.
    Staff is something that will fit into the concept of the Technomancer theme for Engineer.

    Having a conundrum with mesmer when this comes out, do I start a new mesmer and go Virtuoso Axe/Shield or do i go MIrage Dagger/Shield :D

    My 2 cents on Staff Sb and Staff Unt.
    Staff Sb is a very fun support weapon for yourself. Pvp minded, you can set on node a lot longer bc of the 5 and 4 for immobilize, you can poke through projectile block skills with auto. You can throw the 2 skill on enemy then weapon swap and get little healing packets while dealing DMG. I personally love the mobility with staff and great sword. I become a tanker thief able to block with great sword and projectile block with staff. I have a bird and rock gazelle for swiftness, stun and mobility. I can zoom around the map and disengage very quickly.
    Staff Untamed, you get the new unleash skill that heals allies and condi DMG enemies. All the same reasons for SB staff goes here too. You become so much more tankier and survive better with staff. Honestly S tier for staff. Also I'm a ranger main so biased.

    I didn't even think to try it for Hammer SB in the beta, but can you run double hammer and have 2 different sets of weapon abilities? Like one hammer set to unleashed and the other normal, or 2 different combinations?

    On Necromancer : I feel like you're forgetting what makes Dagger offhand so strong for condi builds on the class in general. Sending back the self inflicted condis from blood is power. If you start using a torhc, you can't do that anymore, and that's weirdly one of the biggest part of the damage output of condi necro builds.

      I'd argue if you use torch offhand in one set, you'd still either have staff or dagger offhand on the other set. It's one conditransfer rather than two, but in some situations it might still be enough.

    Couldn't agree more about thief, we kind of get screwed by this system because the weapons are so tied to their traits to perform well in most cases. Staff deadeye might be good instead of daggers since it has cleave. Spectre has too little initiative to handle staff or rifle well and rifle just won't be very good without malice. Even though staff and rifle daredevil sounds so fun, I think it'll end up being not as good. Only upside is power daredevil doesn't really use a 2nd weapon so it'd be decent enough as just a ranged or utility weapon instead of shortbow.

    Shield on Virtuoso and Greatsword on Herald will be massive for WvW.
    Virtuoso is looking scary already with how much boonstrip it packs, so adding a lot more blade generation with the shield might overcharge it and Herald with GS will make Revenant's position in the meta even more cemented at S.

    Feeling pretty overwhelmed with all these options. Made me really think what the elite specs are good in or what their niche is and how to play them. I think this change opens up so much design space in general. For a while no one will really know what to play for max efficiency and maybe playstiles will become more random overall but also less dogmatic. Maybe at the expense of the class flavour in some cases. And then there will come even more weapons for each class... I feel like this will set off a cascade of changes in in the game on all levels and devs need to decide how narrow they want playstyles to be.

    Condi vindicator totally works. Every Archemorus skill does condi damage also. You do alliance and mallyx. Abyssal chill makes the middle dodge apply torment.

    Yeah WvW zerg fight groups use lots of weird builds. I've heard that some organized groups have set their eyes on greatsword Scourge for boon-ripping and damage bursts, which is just bizarre for me as a PvE player lol And there's this Dragonhunter SUPPORT build they use to give stability and actually tank in front of the group against enemy group, it's definitely one of the weirdest builds I've ever seen lmao And healing Vindicator too, it's been meta for zerg fights for quite some time. So WvW zerg fight is definitely a gallery of builds that has almost no use anywhere else.
    I'm still grumpy about Anet shifting the support capabilities on Spectre from its traits to its weapon. There was this trait that means you revive 33% of your targeted downed ally when you use F1 on them, and it's really fun to play around with in big PvE events to range revive people and basically being a medic. But then they removed the trait entirely, and Spectre didn't have other revive-affecting traits outside the traits from core trait lines. I mean if Ele has Geyser to range revive, give Spectre one too right? Just nerf the percentage down if they must. Now I have to take Shadow Refuge to make up for that range revive lose even though it has that long CD just to make sure people don't get cleaved out when I'm running towards them.

    the hammer dual skills for Weaver where not in the beta, it just flipped to Grand Finale. and i think that is a big topic for hammer Weaver. the think with Catalys, is you are getting somthing like 2 buffs from traits which gives that higher dps though 1 from an aura buff, and i think it a combo buff that cat gets in it's traits. so i would say Hammer Weaver would see something big, but idk, depends on what they do with the orbs on the dual skills. i also would say Virtuoso Axe i would put on S tier as well, as that bleed will be big, i hit 30k with Virtuoso on the golem, and axe will probably make it higher.

    For those that own legendary runes - I'd just like to say that it seems you will get compensated with materials for the legendary relic. I suppose the more runes you have the more you'll get compensated with the maximum probably being 7 runes. From what I understood the legendary relic won't be available at launch but at one of the later releases of Secrets of the Obscure

    I'd love for you two to revisit this now that it is all out. I have found Ranger the most fun/powerful of everything I have tested. Hammer has become a really fun condi bruiser weapon on druid.

    I think you undervalued sword tempest quite a lot. The water 2 and the earth 2 gives basically all ele specs 2 extra dodges now plus the air 3 gap closer (which can double as an escape if you target someone far away) and thats a pretty huge deal for tempest in non pve instanced content, and that gives tempest even more defensive options in pvp/wvw when paired with focus - you might even be able to skip focus on tempest and use warhorn for extra healing on support. As for pve, the fire sword 2 and 3 and air 3 hits like a truck while you automatically get the earth sword 3 without needing to double attune, and that does a lot of bleed.

    yes you can right click the ranger hammer skills and pick and choose. makes it slightly better but the weapon still revolves around switching between the two so it’s not that amazing. hammer soulbeast feels like a true bunny thumper though

    so its a master trait that you use called mech frame: channeling conduits and thats how the alch works so any source of barrier you generate will give alch also on power mech hammer you forget that your mech takes 50% of your stats near you and if you are not next to it it will have longer recharge rate so hammer actually makes your mech stronger. Plus hammer 4 gives barrier lol

    I tested Power/Alac/Hammer mech and in my testing in was indeed higher DPS than Rifle, also it was just plain more fun to play.

    Since weapons are not exslusive now, elite specs built around core weapons (hammer master guard or rifle warrior) in next xpack would be nice twist. Alternate, between core weapons and elite specs around those later on. Stalls warrior issue with new weapons.

    Im looking forward to greatsword renegade so much. For months i thought "if only greatsword wasnt locked to this boring advanced class" and now i can unlock that badass weapon and put it on renegade. Once you maximize and fully understand condition or power renegade it's opaf and super fun........... Maybe just me lol.

    Hammer Tempest was my dream. I wanted hammer on Tempest when HoT came out and now i finally was gonna get a second chance. So i join beta and realised instantly i have so few fields to blast because the fields on catalysts are on f1-f4 and this is where the Tempest overloads are. Dont get me wrong yes you get fields through overloads but cooldowns too long and in WvW you get interrupted so often so you lack fields to blast which in wvw is sooo important.

    As a mainly WvW player. I think Guardian should get warhorn. It would be great to have a viable zerging off hand besides shield. I am still curious to see what pistol brings the Guardian, since currently our only 1 handed ranged option is the scepter and the auto attack on the scepter is not good at all, the only thing good on it is the immobilize which is single target, but still great for locking down out of position players in zerg v zerg scenarios. Also curious to see what symbol they add to pistol, would be great if it pulsed protection as the only symbol that does currently is in the hammer auto attack chain.

    GS scourge for wvw seems absolutely broken to me
    finally youre no longer stuck with axe
    nightfall is a gigantic lingering boon rip
    GS5 is a pull that works without targeting
    gravedigger is sick nasty to just run over some people while zergs crash into eachother

    I'm excited to play hammer tempest (overload air, aftershock to immob the target and hammer 2, damn the STORM!) and sword tempest (because the delay between attunement I couldn't get behind with weaver)
    Also "I'm a huge renegade fan" and playing power sb/gs in open world excites me

      Doesn't basically every other raid boss have a larger than standard hitbox? Sure, they might not all be 5x, but fairly often standard kitty golem has worse damage from these hitbox scaling attacks than an actual raidboss

    Fun video, but I have to disagree completely on hammer weaver. Reasons why I think it'll be underwhelming:
    1. As a weapon it has lots of finishers and no fields. Catalyst has plenty of fields, tempest can do at least a few, weaver has nothing.
    2. The dual skills are so disappointing. I wanted new functionality, but instead I can.. put orbs up slightly quicker? And given the nature of the buffs, you actually generally want to actually extend the time they're all up as long as you can, so not super interesting there. Double orb was just about the least interesting way you could possibly add dual attunement skills to the weapon.
    3. As you mentioned, the hammer is a pretty slow weapon, and needed catalysts's quickness. Tempest is at least a somewhat slow spec as well, what with needing to stay in attunement for overloads, but Weaver is all about speed and rapid change, and you're not gonna get that on hammer.
    I kinda hope with regard to warhorn they redesign it in a way that makes it not reliant on hitbox size -- maybe they take a leaf out of the book they used for virtuoso and make it a stationary skill that you place and then it shoots lightning orbs from there for a set duration?

    The right way to balance this mess going forward, would be introducing weapon specific talent trees. So basically, you can right click on your equipped weapon and open their "Mastery" that looks a bit like the normal specs for our class. The entire balance for weapons right now, will be handled on the weapon itself. So of there is a strong e-spec weapon, they will nerf the weapon. Maybe they try buffing the e-spec itself when the weapon attached to it becomes weaker, but that opens an entire new glass of worms. What if the stronger e-spec all of the sudden snowballs with a different weapon from another e-spec.
    I think this is a pandoras box situation they shouldn't have opened. And I think the only sensible thing to do is giving weapons their own talent trees that regulate their power. And not regulating their power by nerfing them and buffing specs.

    here is my thesis: Elite spec offhand and generally one hand weapons are broken because vanilla 1 handed weapons were left in the trash. If they would balance well vanila weapons it would not be such a problem now that you can combine multiple broken weapons. Also ele has attunments and engi has kits that is why they can't weapon swap, but firebrand has perma 3 kits and can weapon swap? Anet has some inconsistent design.
