Thanks for explaining things with this. I run a Yeti microphone and push everything through ScreenFlow. I also am using a 27" Thunderbolt monitor. I had things plugged in to the monitor and I was not getting streaming - the Cam Link has to go direct to the computer. I walked through this video and it helped me ensure some good set up processes.

Great Video!! I have an question, im trying to record gaming concert i noticed couple youtubers got this camera, how do they record gaming separately from the gameplay but also have the camera connected to the pc to stream as well ?
Many different streamers have many different ways they capture picture in picture of themselves and the game.
One of the most popular ways is to use a free piece of software called:
OBS (Open Broadcaster Software®) obsproject.com/

Thanks for the video. On recording settings it doesn´t give me the option to choose 60p 50m, just 50p 50m. Is that a problem?
It’s not a problem @@AR-ls6wc - my guess is that you are outside of the U.S. ?
@videoforentrepreneurs yes, Europe
It's is because of the PAL broadcast rules in Europe. Nothing wrong with using the default frame rates at all.
But if you feel like changing them here is a quick walk through.
ua-cam.com/video/y_u_k7IhSqk/v-deo.htmlsi=qV0PppTsDnY4BPkD
Keep in mind that making those changes will affect how the camera "write" to a memory card, so if you have recorded clips previously at a PAL frame rate - you might not be able to open or play those back on the camera itself from a memory card.
In this video you are using zve10 or which cam and lens for shooting this video

Just realised that even if you can use the ZV E10 for a live broadcast the sound on the the camera is so god awful that it presents another bigger problem. I use the camera for my YT videos but have to record audio to a separate device. I tried linking my audio device to the camera but the preamps in the camera are dreadful and I have to sync in post. @@6ackwoods I used a zv-e10 through a Camlink to make this very video. It’s compatible. I’ve also helped hundreds of entrepreneurs and creators use the same setup over the last 3 years.
You seem to be confusing two functions.
The Camlink isn't for the camera to do USB streaming. For the Camlink to work, you'd connect the camera to the Camlink via HDMI, and then the Camlink plugs into a USB port on your computer.
If you're trying to use the camera's USB streaming function, then you just connect the camera to the computer via USB, and no Camlink is necessary. That results in a lower-quality stream than using HDMI and the Camlink, but is a little simpler to set up.
If you still haven't figured this out, swap to 24p/50 to 100 - 4k

Why did you change the setting from 4K to HD? Wouldn't you want the better resolution? Also, if I am using my ZV E10 not for live streaming but for recording a video, could I use 4K? Isn't that the point of having this camera and having a CAMLINK 4K (since its called 4K)?
Great question, I actually just got this question a couple of days ago.
In my personal opinion 4K is simply overkill and sets you up for easily avoidable problems.
1. Many computer won't allow you to capture 4K even if the signal coming in is 4K
2. Capturing in 4K is relatively harmless but streaming in 4K takes a lot of horsepower. CPU horsepower, Graphics Card horsepower, and Internet horsepower.
3. On the viewers end 95% of people won’t even notice a difference. They would have to be using a 4K screen big enough to notice the difference and also have super fast WiFi on their end to get the full experience.
Because I help people look and sound great on camera as frictionless as possible, I opt for the safety of streaming in HD.
Apologies for the Novella.
@@videoforentrepreneurs THANK YOU for the detailed response!!!! Giving a like! I guess I will try recording in 4K and if I have any problems will lower to HD.
For recording in 4K using a Sony ZV E10 (I have a CAMLINK 4K), can you give me a quick breakdown of what settings on the camera I need to adjust? Thank you for the video mate, I have the setup completed fully. I checked OBS, the video although amazing quality, I can see a lot of graininess - any idea how I can fix this? Thank you again!
I haven't heard of this exact problem. Have you watched the footage playback "after" capture and see if it is still "grainy"?
Happy to help if I can.
Hello, can you transmiter in 4k in lives stream?
You can stream in 4K but I highly advise against it as you are never in control of the internet speed your audience will have. I always stream in 1080P to make sure the widest audience possible will have a great experience. Many softwares like zoom and others can't handle a 4K stream and end up looking absolutely terrible. Just my 2 cents.
Doesn't this camera has its own feature for USB streaming? Or is it worse quality when done via USB of the camera directly?
You nailed it! There is a very noticeable quality difference between USB out and HDMI out so we have all of our clients and students use HDMI and a capture card. The biggest bummer of the USB streaming option is the terrible color profile it has. 🤢
If I'm just setting up a reaction video channel (and not streaming) do I need to have the Elgato capture device or just record using the card inside the camera? I am using OBS to record the video so I'm just not sure what to use to save the video?
If you are recording using OBS, then you definitely want to HDMI out to a Capture Card (Camlink) and then into your computer so OBS can get the signal and record.
Hey thanks so much! Do you have to get a dummy battery to stream with this camera, or how do we go about battery settings/dying during streams and filming?
Great question!
Essentially there are 2 options here.
1.) A dummy battery is the way I go with my cameras, so that is a good option.
2.) With this particular camera you can also power it through the USB cable that comes with it as long as your battery is inside of the camera. 👍
@@videoforentrepreneurs thank you!!! Can you plug the usb into the pc / camera to charge simultaneously while streaming using an elgato camlink? 🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@hannah_hughes You can use the USB to simultaneously power and stream your camera, but the quality is much lower than running an HDMI cable out to the CamLink.
@@hannah_hughes but if like this, good for battery life?

Not 100% sure I follow yet, but I am sure we can get this figured out with a little trouble shooting.
Do you have an HDMI cable running from camera to Elgato CamLink?
Do you have CamLink connected "directly" to computer and not to a hub?
Is Your CamLink plugged into a USB-3 port? (and not USB-2 like on older computers)
Are you powering your camera with USB, Standard Battery, or Dummy Battery?

Hey Dan! I'm back with another question. :)
I recently purchased a new Macbook Pro and I'm getting tired of having to remove my ZV-e10 from my tripod to access the SD card each time.
If I wanted to set this system up the way you shared, which software would my Macbook need so I can record directly to it?
Would I use something like Zoom or such? I have Photo Booth on the laptop, but for some reason, I don't see the whole shot (if that makes sense).

I didn't even think to use QuickTime. LOL

@@TedMattos No problem at all. The files get pretty big quickly - but I make that trade for the quality. ☺️
Hi what’s the difference between using the camlink here with hdmi vs the direct usb connection, given that you are not looking for 4K? Is it that you are getting 1080 and the usb connection is limited to 720 or so?
Thanks for a great question! The USB it great for powering the camera, but the quality loss of capturing the image going over the USB cable as opposed to the pure signal you get over HDMI is almost night and day. The USB signal is still considered “HD” but the resolution loss comparatively is noticeable.
Now don’t get me wrong, the USB signal isn’t complete garbage… BUT - the difference is so noticeable that I have all my clients and student buy the Camlink when they work with me.
Here is a great short little video showing the difference. The bigger the screen you watch the comparison on the more you see the resolution difference. Comparison starts at 0:37

@@PerfilesStreaming-om3em The CamLink doesn’t “recognize” the hdmi signal - your computer “recognizes” the CamLink when you plug it in directly.

Hey thanks for taking the time to reply. I would really be interested in knowing how to do this as a creator myself. It would be very helpful so I look forward to hearing back from you on how I might achieve this.
I specifically bought the ZV-E10 for recording in OBS in 4k. No matter how many different settings I try it's always choppy in 4k. Yes, I could just record to the SD card but that defeats the whole point of what I'm trying to achieve. I guess if you want to use your computer to record 4k video straight to your computer with no chop you are out of luck...
It all depends on the specs of your machine and what software you are running@@makewavemarketing
I always encourage people to stream in 1080 anyway for the sake of the viewer. But I definitely understand the frustration.
I see só many people putting the file format to 1080p instead of 4k.. but why? I did some tests myself and putting it on 4k with the elgato camlink 4k and it looks so much cleaner. Even though yes, it gets downsampled to 1080p while streaming to Twitch, still looks wayyy better than the 1080p format setting. Just curious.
I am always streaming with the end user in mind and not everyone has the ability to stream 4K. In my world compression is bad so I avoid it at all costs. If your setup is working well and you notice a quality difference, definitely keep streaming in 4K!
In my work with clients we see more downside then up, so we keep it safe at 1080 HD.

Great video. I work in I.T. consulting and just purchased this camera. I couldn't get the Camlink software to work on any of my laptops (all running win 11). I don't think Elgato does a good job of maintaining drivers for their legacy products like the Camlink. I purchased the Prompter too but it runs on the same software desktop app as the Camlink. I did get the camera connected via USB 3 but the resolution is only 720p. I'll look for another hdmi capture card. @@TheIngPin Great question, I actually just got this question a couple weeks ago while doing a studio build in person for a client.
In my personal opinion 4K is simply overkill and sets you up for easily avoidable problems.
