    The good old days when you was around allowed a scrapyard with no steel toe cap boot and a hi vis jacket.

    scrapyards have thier part to play in bus preservation. A friend of mine finished his preservation of an ex Dublin Bus Alexander bodied Leyland Olympian last year. If it wasn't for a scrapyard selling him another non road worthy leyland Olympian to break for parts he would never have been able to finish it. Not every bus can be preserved but keep a few examples of older buses in road worthy state if private preservationists or preservation groups can afford it.

    Would have made great static homes, could a solved britains housing crisis for a few decades until homes got built.
    Cheap to convert and plug into sewage and mains utilities.
    Brilliant for holiday activity centres to hire out as camp site accommodation in the summer.
    Retro fitting in a large warehouse before delivered to site.

      Absolutely useless for housing. A nightmare to heat and insulate. They need to be recycled by ripping apart with a grab crane which is exactly what happens.

    I bet all these buses could tell a few good stories. I feel sorry for them just languishing whilst they await the cutting torch.

    Let's face it the Leyland Nationals with that 500 series engine were not good vehicles, that disastrous engine cost Leyland millions and was probably the reason why they went under, they should have binned that engine long before they did and stuck with the 680 and Gardner powered engines both of which were pretty good especially in buses and coaches.

    Let’s starting to save all public transport across the British Isles it’s full of history

    • @Fcutdlady
      @Fcutdlady 5 років тому +1

      Samples of what's historic have been preserved already. There are static displays in transport museums and individual preservationists who keep historic buses on the road.
      Nothing modern is worth preserving. If your idea was to be taken up, who will pay to do a bus up from withdrawn condition. If they're not static exibtions in transport museums, Who will pay the tax, insurance, upkeep and diesel costs of preserving all these buses and keeping them road worthy . When things like engines become obsolete and scrap yards have no buses to break and sell you parts from what will you do when mechanical faults occur. I work with a friend of mine who preserves buses and works with other preservationists here in Dublin Ireland , I've have been in a scrapyard or two. They are a vital part of bus preservation. You can't buy. parts of the shelf for older buses. That's one of his buses in my avatar by the way. A 1972 CIE bodied Leyland Atlantean

      @@Fcutdlady I would say they all need to be recycled by tearing apart with a grab crane, shredding and melting down the scrap steel and aluminium.

    A lot of old buses fail their MOTs for the same reasons as cars, corrosion and rotten chassis which cannot be repaired easily or cheaply.

    This is really interesting. I noticed the two Nationals at 0:26 in People's Provincial livery. I never had a chance to ride on BCD807L but I did ride on BCD824L a few times. The bus company had a few BCDs at one time with the final one remaining being BCD824L. Does anyone know what company the two Nationals in red and white livery parked beside HTX725N came from? Hard to believe HTX and BCD came all the way from Fareham to reach their demise in Yorkshire!

      You've waited a long time for a reply! No, unfortunately it's now yet another industrial estate. Years ago they'd take the Gardner engines out and sell them for use in boats in Hong Kong. I once went to North's with a travelling showman friend who needed some parts - I was impressed how the boss in his wood panelled office, was happy to don his boots and jacket and take a power pack to start an engine to demonstrate it for him.

      you can say that again. Just think of the amount of signage going completely to fucking waste, not to mention the blinds. I'll bet that if you wanted a fleet number plate of say the MTL Nationals you've have pay a good few quid. Fuck, if I ran a bus graveyard like this, I'd let anyone have blinds, fleet numberplates, signs, all that shit for only a couple of quid if not for free. Mind you, if they wanted BIGGER stuff like seat backs and squabs they'd have to pay me a lot more.
