Lap of love helped me so much. It allowed me to recognize and embrace anticipatory grief. I had never heard of it before, but it was exactly what I was experiencing! It was so helpful for me to identify and honor what I was feeling. It helped me create a bucket list for my girl and to continue to do things on that list for the entire year and. Half since her diagnosis of Laryngeal paralysis and poly neuropathy. We took her for weekly acupuncture and she got a Starbucks pup cup and a ham and Swiss panini after most sessions. I consulted a pet psychic during what I knew were Bella’s last days. I wanted to know if she wanted to go on vacation to Maine with us. I knew it would be a hard trip for her. The psychic said that Bella felt it was important that she went to Maine on vacation. We got her a life jacket so she would be able to have some last swims in the ocean. We got a fan that mounted on the headrest of the front seat to keep air flowing on her and make sure she stayed cool. She was a trooper and made the two day trip to Maine without a single problem. We had arranged for her to continue to receive her Accupunture treatments at a vet near our vacation home, but after arriving she seemed to go down hill quickly. She had trouble standing on her own and walking was a difficult. After 4 days, we decided it was time. It wasn’t fair to her to keep her hanging on through our vacation. Fortunately, we found the one hospice vet in the area and she agreed to come to our vacation house and help Bella cross peacefully. We took her for ice cream, fed her fish and chips on a dock by the water, let her swim in the ocean, and just stayed with her and loved her the best we knew how. Thank you for letting me describe Bella’s last and hopefully best days here. We miss her every day and talk about her every day to our new black lab pup, Cole.
