  • In this episode of In The Kitchen With Matt, I show you how to eat a Canary Melon and do a taste test. The Canary Melon name comes from being bright yellow like the Canary bird. The melon is found in many parts of Asia like Japan, South Korea, Algeria, Morocco. It is cultivated in other parts of the world like the United States and Mexico. It is also found in several other countries, worldwide. It is very sweet with a slight tang to it.

    Mine was bright yellow and waxy outside, but the stem wasn’t really loosen but it was the size of yours for several weeks. So I picked it, /when I cut it in half, each half had one side slight green like a honeydew, and the other side light Orange like a cantaloupe. Does that two color variation mean I picked it too early? It tasted really good.

    • @inthekitchenwithmatt
      @inthekitchenwithmatt  3 роки тому +4

      Hello Zena! Most melons including the Canary melon won't ripen after it is harvested. So it needs to be picked ripe. So if you are buying them at the store they should already be ripe. If growing them, wait until they are completely a rich deep yellow color like in the video, and the skin will have a slightly waxy feel and be nice and smooth. Most melons don't ripen after being picked, so chances are if you find them at the store they are already as ripe as they are going to get. But in general there should be a slight give to the blossom ends of the melon with a mild sweet fragrant.

    To be honest I don’t really care if a fruit is hecka sweet , I’d rather it not be hecka sweet and have more of a watery flavor

    • @inthekitchenwithmatt
      @inthekitchenwithmatt  2 роки тому

      To each their own, for me it depends on the fruit. That is what is great about these melon varieties you can find them at varying degrees of sweetness, but most of them still are watery and refreshing.

    Love these melons but bought 1 the other day and it was solid inside noy much juice, I was so looking forward to having it buy the disappointment with this 1, I just wanted to return it to the supermarket and bounce it of the floor was so annoyed.

    • @inthekitchenwithmatt
      @inthekitchenwithmatt  3 роки тому +1

      And it was a canary melon you bought? Probably just needed to wait for it to soften up a bit on the counter. :) But yeah, that is very annoying.

      @@kirsteentempleton2727 Pretty much yes! Depending on the kind, a lot of melons need hot dryer climate, so places up north need a greenhouse. But again, it depends on the melon.
