hilariously these screens aren't even HD 720. This haven't change for almost 10 years, I hope we can have a camera with at least 4 inch screen and HD screen one day
While it may be an attempt to cut cost, I suspect part of the problem is higher res screens will burn through the tiny batteries of most cameras. Smartphones nowadays average 5000mAh in battery size, while cameras are like 1000+mAh (APSC batts) to 2000+ mAh (full frame).

Instead of single point, If the auto doesn't work, flip on eye control, once I lock on subject, half press to hold that target and go to town. Most of the times, once I get the correct target, the auto keeps it. Football it still jumps around a bit and thats where I tend to keep eye control turned on more.

Nevermind that the 12MP 1Ds was considered awesome for landscape, studio, wildlife while most had to settle for 6-8MP bodies... or that we previously relied on film for everything. The R1 will serve just fine for anything as long as you don't need something small and inconspicuous and as long as you don't rely on heavy cropping.
@whatcouldgowrong7914 "the norm"? Yet people are still on quite small monitors and wouldn't be able to tell the difference. And guess what they have going on their largest screens? Upscaled HD imagery. Blaming your shortcomings on the equipment is only a good idea if your goal is spending more money. The idea that you need 24MP+ because you have a 4K monitor or 33+ MP for 8K monitors is hilarious. A 65" screen is roughly 1440mm wide. Given infinite monitor resolution, an HD image pixel would be 1.3mm wide. A picture from a D3 would have a pixel width of about 0.3mm. From the R1 roughly half that. If the people looking at your images then note pixelation, your image would have to be quite unappealing and the real question would be; why did you bother showing it
@ Your comment is hilarious when you talk about so called shortcomings when you could learn how to take action photos better instead of just spray and pray by relying on 40fps 🤣
@whatcouldgowrong7914 that made no sense at all. If one can't imagine shooting action with less than 20fps, maybe one needs to reconsider. Higher framerates make it easier, just as high resolution does, but it's not a must for the camera to be usable. After all, they used to get by with cameras like the Nikon F.
The smart controller is the best thing on any camera ever made. I have the R3 and you can select af so easily and quick. Pre ordered the R1 and can’t wait to use it.
I really wish the 4M dot LCD screens were a universal standard, almost all of my Macro shots are composed on the LCD and if your LCD is sharp enough you don't need to zoom in to confirm focus.
Flagship cameras have always been specialised for sports and action. That in body noise reduction helps speed up the workflow to get images out to the public as quickly as possible at live events like the Olympics.
@ both have higher resolution than an R1 but neither would be a do all camera. The Z9 has known banding issues with LED lighting in low light while the A1 has focusing issues in low light. In these scenarios for an event photographer you would want to use a Z6iii or A7IV instead.
@@iggytse it has an Ethernet port. Pretty sure you can send pictures directly to the editor or their computer cloud client through the cellular networks. They usually will be connected to multiple cell providers and have priority over regular users because the news need to go out there for emergencies reasons. It might speed up the process a little but an expert in light room could send out fully edited pictured in minutes from event their website.
@@iggytse every rolling shutter based camera will have banding issues with LED lighting...only the Sony A9III has no issues, and that's cos of the global shutter. The R1 will still have some banding issues with LED lighting too, but it will be greatly diminished over other models with slower rolling shutter readout speeds. As an aside, my R3 struggles in low light with AF, as does pretty much every other camera on the market. The truth is, the A1 is bloody 4 years old and the Z9 3 years old. If the R1 struggles to match these now ancient cameras, then Canon is in real deep shit.
@ I never said the R1 was a match for the Z9 and A1. I’m responding to the remark in the video that the R1 is too specialised for sports. As far as the banding issues, maybe that is a terminology describing something else. The flicking from the LED is happening from the electronic shutter that could easily be rectified using a mechanical shutter from what I was told by a Z9 user. Where a Z9 and Z8 shows great value for money is video and being about to record uncompressed raw video internally. Still the only company outside of RED to be legally allowed to do it.
@snibbelgaurd The first band is through and for me it's quite a difference. The R1 works smoothly and quickly. Focus is quick and precise. I couldn't detect any banding at first glance. Image noise feels the same as with the R3. So far I'm really impressed.
The R5mkii is now a better sports camera and has better AF than the R3. Precapture is a game changer and I have allready taken many images on my R5mkii that could not be taken without that function. The R3 does not have precapture, the R1 does.
@@nordic5490precapture I guess. The rest I wouldn't bother with. Having used both cameras the R3 still had better auto focus unless you used priority modes.
1:35 the R1 is not Canon's most expensive body. The 1DX M3 is still sold by Canon for $6499, compared to the R1 $6299. If you factor in the 16.5% inflation since the R3 came out in 2021, those of us that preordered a R3 paid $6988 for them in today's dollars.
I am a wildlife photographer and I shoot Canon because I like the autofocus. I shoot the R3 and think the R5II is OK, not great. I had a Z9 but sold it and keep shooting Canon. The AF just works.
@@SMGJohn I dont care for the Sony RAW files or the their color science. My favorite is Nikon but they lack the AF capability that both Canon and Sony possesses. Canon fits my needs perfectly in a world of compromise. 🤗
I think in this day and age, they need a R1S and R1R where they prioritise speed or resolution. I would have loved a rugged, weather sealed beast for wildlife and landscapes like my old 1DX but 24MP simply isn’t enough these days…
@@JPdeRuiter Because it is a flagship camera, it is supposed to put everything else to shame… with 0 compromises. No one needs 40FPS… that is just utterly ridiculous. Being able to crop images, reframe, forgo carrying some longer lenses is indispensable if you need to punch in further. You say it is enough but look at the same image with 24v60MP on something like a 4K-5K monitor and the detail difference is insane with good optics. My 1Dx is over a decade old now and it’s 18MP. They need a high resolution offering with all the rugged features.
"...simply isn’t enough these days..." How are "these days" any different than the days ten years ago? Unless you're making huge prints, something fewer and fewer people are doing, it's unnecessary. And with today's extraordinary post-production tools, like Adobe AI Enhance (which is near indistinguishable from in-camera pixel shift), you're more or less covered for resolution bumps. Or you could just get a Nikon Z9, which does it all.
@ You literally just said it… Nikon does it all… So why is this a flagship R1… AI is not a replacement for optical resolution, it is fake. “These days”, like I said the original 1Dx was 18MP over a decade ago back in the days of FullHD monitors, now where up to 6K monitors, 8K video etc which is easily capable of reproducing an image where you can see significant differences in detail between camera sensors. Pixel shift doesn’t even exist on Canon, it’s yet another fake AI upscaling in JPG only.
It still feels like it should be called the R3 Mark II. And the real R1 should be a direct competitor to the Z8 and A1II with higher MP and optional grip.
The AF subject tracking shown here is subjective because the arena seats are empty with no faces. The R3 and R5m2 both have tendenacies to jump back and forth with AF given lots of faces in the frame, so is R1 even stickier? No mention of comparing high iso images vs R3. The R1 is not a specialized camera, just an incremental upgrade from R3 imo. As an R3 owner, the real upgrade path is a R5m2 and not the R1.
The other thing to note here is regarding sports, a 24mb body with a 100-300 is perfect for hockey or basketball with enough focal length to fill a good portion of the frame. Football, soccer, baseball for example I'll take the R5m2 all day long with a super tele. People mention the R1 MP as a negative, the reality is it depends on the sport and focal length needed. I think reviewers miss this concept.
7:25 is the hot shoe cover really that big of a deal or is it just a running “joke” at this point? I bought one for my R6II and have had zero issues removing it.
Do I WANT the R1?! Yes. Do I NEED the R1?! No…My 1DXMKiii has been CRUSHING it since 2020 and the R1 just isn’t ENOUGH to get me to make that move up…😅
You compared the readout specs of the z9 vs the R1 stating that the R1 is faster which it is, but that is because its at 24MP whereas the z9/z8 has 45MP which will obviously need power to keep up with larger file sizes. If the z9 would be 24MP, I'm sure it would be able to keep up with the speeds of the R1.
The RF 100-300mm f2.8 L images looks outstanding! I can’t make up my mine on which to buy first. The R1 or the RF 100-300mm f/2.8 and just pair it with my R5.
Everyone gets hung up on the mp. I had the r5 and the r6ii. I tested them side by side, shooting the exact same subjects / settings, with the same lens. Pixel peepling on a PC, the ability to crop further on the r5 was almost negligible. The better low light performance was very noticeable. I currently have the r5ii and r6ii. The r6ii is still way better in low light than the r5ii, but the r5ii has way better autofocus, pre shooting, eye tracking etc... all that I love. For shooting a mix of events, sports (day and night) portraits, and very limited products (nothing high end). 24 MP is completely fine when the shot is taken correctly in camera. Can't wait for the r6iii. If anyone wants to buy my r5ii I'm happy to sell it to get the r1, and run the 6ii as a backup.
Yes you can get by with it but the cropping factor of high MP is equally as important and in extreme cases can reduce the number of lenses you need to carry, cropping ability etc… My R6 I really want more these days for macro and landscapes. I would also love a reliable body like my 1Dx but I could buy 5 x R6 for the price of this camera and just burn through them with extreme activities
@@whatcouldgowrong7914 Have you ever taken side by side pics both cameras? I have. unless you look at the size of the image, the amount you can crop is marginally better. The r6ii, r3, and r1 have sensors that are great and can still be cropped. Just numbers alone, I think most people think 2x MP would give 2X crop, doesn't work that way IRL.
@@heyyou918 Depends on the sensor, the GFX 100 is a massive jump from the R6 or Sonys 60MP FF sensor. Being able to punch in during editing and seeing actual detail and not just pixel blocks is amazing and like I said the cropping ability on 60MP + sensors can remove the need to carry some lenses sometimes if you’re travelling. I just think they need a flagship camera to cater to more than sports. I miss my 1DX body but its over a decade old now and this is barely any resolution increase.
@@whatcouldgowrong7914 LOL - Ok, so your bringing Medium Format into the mix??? Ok, onto Sony, once you start cropping images from the same size sensor, FF 33 vs FF 60, the amount of crop you can do is far less than what most people think. can someone please make a comprehensive video showing this. If you crop a 60MP sony sensor down to 33mp, and compare it to a pic taken with a 33MP FF sony sensor - - - comparing sony to sony, the uncropped 33mp sensor wins ever day. It's not linear, 2x MP does not equal 2x crop - there may be a marginal - 5% to maybe 8% extra room to crop. So great, make your 500 F4 look like 525, compared to shooting the 33mp camera and not cropping at all. You can crop both sensors, I agree to that, and you can crop ever so slightly more with the higher MP, but thanks marketing for making people think it's an amazing amount more.
I suspect you've got some questionable lenses then. It is *extremely* noticeable if you have sharp enough lenses. The difference between my a7R photos and R6 is night and day (yes I jumped ship to Sony).
Well, the rumoured ‘specs’ have been pretty meaningless and so sparse as to be totally unhelpful. I suspect though, that Sony might just hand around a few A1ii’s on Thursday, but anybody who grabs one probably won’t have anything like enough time to properly evaluate it. Or tell us anything like enough about it.
As a guy who will never be more than an avid hobbyist - though always trying to learn more and improve my technique - there's no way in the world that I should have an R1. However, as a guy with no bills and with retirement on the horizon, I WANT an R1! I believe it's time to start saving up for one. PS: Great review, and as a lifelong hockey fan, I loved your images!
Well, I hope you treat yourself and enjoy the results. I have a 1dx-mk3 and had it with me on a canon workshop during the summer. They gave me an R3 with the rf400mm f2.8 lens to shoot birds in flight. And holy god, the speed was insane with that combo. So I can only imagine what the R1 would be like. Cant quite afford to splash out on that upgrade quite yet myself.
Have you checked when the base ISO reset occurs in C-Log2? When I tested the camera at the Canon event, it was still on early firmware (below version 1), and with the cap on, it was clearly visible that this sensor, like the C80 and C400, also has three noise reset levels at ISO 800, 1600, and 12,800. Have you checked what the final values are?
A bit skeptical about it baking in post processing into the raw. Nowadays with authenticity requirements for journalistic photographs, I wonder if what sounds like baked into raw editing without the choice to disable it sounds like a potential issue for some users of the demographic they aim at. I know people that said that they cannot use any edit that sharpens or denoises. They said they can do a bit of exposure and a bit of contrast in the post processing. They do nothing else. If it automatically adds some edits that are not contrast or exposure, then that might be an issue since the files probably also have baked into the metadata the editing that is baked in, which could disqualify the photo from the get go
No mention of HDR video in this review. That’s the hidden gem of the R3, HDR video excels even when shot with the standard camera color profile. I can only imagine it will look even better on the R1, mine arrives in a few days
@@olivertrees Try watching a wildlife video shot or edited in HDR with the R3 versus standard Rec. 709. The HDR version looks so much better! More realistic and the colors are superior
At the 7:11 mark, the R3 appears to be missing the viewfinder hood, indicating a possible oversight (Goof!). Additionally, the R1 seems to be what the R3 Mark II could have been. The Canon R5ii, with its 45MP sensor, offers a feature set comparable to the R1 but is approximately $2K less expensive. Utilizing the R5ii battery grip provides an additional battery and enhances the physical handling, similar to the R1/R3.I've used two R3s and am currently using two R5 IIs for sports photography, which offer significantly better cropping quality than the 24.1MP resolution. I won't consider the R1 at this time, perhaps waiting for a much-improved R1 Mark II. It might be a long wait, haha.
It seems like the perfect camera for sports photography, but as a wildlife photographer I'm disappointed. I think every wildlife photographer with the means to do so would spend good money on a body with these specs, but with 45MP. I really hope Canon will take that next step. As a bird- and other wildlifephotographer who photographs a lot of high speed action, I find that the megapixels of the R5 make a lot of difference in pictures, but I don't necessarily need more than 20 frames per second. Seems like it could be done if Canon wanted to.
After all that… even with the R1, you still can’t change the K degrees / color balance on video during REC. 🤯 You are stuck until you press stop. Sony, Nikon, Hasselblad lets you. ONLY the Cinema line of Canon allows it. So if you need to adjust your K temperature, you have to stop the camera, adjust, press REC again. Not acceptable for anything live that you can’t interrupt the recording.
Ok... KEH good for US - Bad for Canada... I have checked them out, they won't pay shipping, nor pay top rating "like new" for your gear even if it was never used and still in its original package... Sorry but until they provide the same shipping conditions they do in US and properly rate our gear, KEH is not for me. I've got much more selling my stuff myself than dealing with them
thank you for the review. I would have liked a more direct comparison with the R5II in sports. While they share the same AF the R1 is supposed to be better. I would have liked to hear more about that. I picked the R5II over the A1 because of the resolution, price and portability I would be interested to know if the AF was worth to move to the R1
So, will be in the future be Canon EOS R1s which is basically higher resolution but slower version of EOS R1? Also: people will say that high megapixel means more room for cropping And also: built-in denoise?
It feels weird that a such camera is only specified to work at 0° to 40 °C where as the OM1-2 and the X-H2s which cost a fraction of the R1, are specified to work until -10°C. For outdoor thosestwo look better.
I'm pretty surprised they didn't invest in getting an IP rating for this camera. Leica did it for the SL3 and that camera isn't nearly as appropriate for outdoor use as this is.
@@zegzbrutal it's called an IP rating. OM systems gears are rated to take wild conditions such as rain, dust, sand etc. They stand by their products. Canon says it is, but won't stand by their words or products.
I would have liked the R5ii sensor in this instead. And they could have had two pro bodies. One with high megapixels but a little slower and this one. Or just market it as an R3ii and work for a global sensor.
For the most, it depends what camp your already in. anything better for vid & you might as well go to pro dedicated video camera. Perfect for a journalist no matter the genre.
It's kind of wild to think that this is the equivalent of Leica's SL3 in Canon's system, considering how utterly different the feature set is (not a knock against either, I would much rather every camera in the market be different than the same). Kind of crazy this doesn't seem to have an IP rating by comparison though, even if it has a million more techy features.

4:55 “I honestly kind of wonder why they even decided to put a mechanical shutter in here…” I wonder if LED banding had something to do with it? It may be that many venues have “photo safe” LEDs now, but probably at least as many do not…
I shoot with a Z9 along side other photographers shooting with Sony and Canon and the banding is in everyone’s shots. It’s about how well the high frequency reduction is. I’ve got it almost non-existent on my Nikon with their implementation. I’m not sure if the other guys I shoot with have set theirs up appropriately. Nonetheless, I don’t think mechanical vs electronic makes a difference for LED frequency banding.

Oh that was a great review but I'm sticking to my Canon EOS 90D see over here we don't need c log. Shooting in my vision of cinematic makes good DNR. Battery life is good with one or two batteries in which I use two. Those cf express cards are pricey and it takes two let's see, $6,000 for the device $500 on the cards just to play with a smart Canon EOS 80D. Yep I said it. It's just an intelligent Canon EOS 80D. It had the same resolution where the 90D exceeds. Full or not you don't need a full frame to be a professional. It's called skills. I need subject tracking even if 90D does do it I put in one shot to stop it. I like to remove most of the AI to really test my skills. So far so good. I went so far as to use cinematic lenses such as the Rokinon 35 manual focus to remove the AI. Skill will always set us apart for technology.
When it comes to Canon 90% of the population would be extremely happy with an EOS R6 mark II, that camera is near perfect in almost every way. The R5II is nice if you need the cutting edge with more resolution I guess. The R1 is…great and all but for a very small niche.
full frame offers better IQ - more light hitting each pixel well. That means better DR, better colours and lower noise. APS-C offers that crop factor but at a hit in IQ. For may pros, IQ is paramount and with FF sensors offering better IQ, it's a no brainer for them. CFE b is much, much, much, much faster than any SD card, including UHS-II. They are not even remotely close. If I need to shoot a bird at 30fps with my R3, the SD card cannot keep up. My CFE b card can. Same with video. And my R3's buffer is much, much, much deeper than your 90D. You throw the word "skill" about quite a fair bit. Pros aren't interested in a pissing contest, they're interested in getting the shot. And if tech helps us consistently get a shot, that means more $$$ in their pockets. If you're that skilful, please downgrade to a manual focus, old style SLR with no motor drive and see how you go. Bet your keeper rate drops.
@@JohnSwen-p6b yeah sure...A3 largest natively, without upscaling via software, at least if you want high res prints at 300-350 dpi...you know, so the prints look good.
If you can't do it with 24MP, it's not the camera that's the issue. Photographers used to be quite capable of using 4, 6, 8 and 12MP sensors for everything, or even film. Yet you "can't" use a 24MP sensor for wildlife or landscape.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say not really...the funny thing is, not 1 single reviewer has compared the high ISO performance of the R1 vs the R3, which is the current king of the hill in this respect. I find that very odd.
probably on par with the A93 but with better high ISO and DR due to the rolling sensor vs global sensor. A1 was only a smidgen (1/3 stop) behind the R3 in the high ISO noise performance, but ahead of the R3 in terms of DR by about 1/3 stop. And that's on a 50mp sensor (vs the R3's 24mp). So very impressive from the A1/Sony. The A1 won't be very far behind the R1 in all key areas and outperforms it in some areas (video as an example). The R1 has pre-capture and that's its only saving grace imho. The A1II, due to be announced in just 2 days, will TROUNCE the R1. It'll match or exceed it in DR and high ISO performance, buffer. It'll have pre-capture too. Sensor readout speed will match the R1. All whilst offering 50mp vs the R1's 24mp. edit: AF on the upcoming A1II will match or exceed the AF on the R1. It'll be slightly pricier than the R1 but it'll offer more for your money. If I had not invested in a used EF 500f4 IS L (mark 1) lens back in mid 2022, I'd have moved from Canon to Sony A1. Instead, I went with the R3 as I had concerns over rolling shutter with the original R5. I regret not jumping ship to be honest. Canon is falling further and further behind Sony. That is my honest assessment.

35 mm film usually translated into about 20 mpx, most people dont realize that
The smart controller is the best thing on any camera ever made.
That in body noise reduction helps speed up the workflow to get images out to the public as quickly as possible at live events like the Olympics.
really? Cos the Z9 and A1 disagree with your statement.
As
far as the banding issues, maybe that is a terminology describing something else.
I'm taking my R1 to photograph concerts today. I'm looking forward to it and I'm curious to see how it compares to my R3.
I'm really interested in how concert photographers will like this camera. Although the R6 will be the more reasonable for now in my case.
@snibbelgaurd The first band is through and for me it's quite a difference. The R1 works smoothly and quickly. Focus is quick and precise. I couldn't detect any banding at first glance. Image noise feels the same as with the R3. So far I'm really impressed.

Jordan's stach is lookin good! Those beauty shots 😍
The R1 looks great, but boy am I excited to get my R3 next week to take over from my R6 ii as my main sports camera…
Having used both cameras the R3 still had better auto focus unless you used priority modes.
you usually state what camera is filming, I noticed @2:37 bridge scene the focus is way background on the Deerfoot Tr traffic
Filmmaker/Photographer here...what do you all think is the better camera between the R1 and the R5mkii for someone who shoots both photo and video?
I am a wildlife photographer and I shoot Canon because I like the autofocus. I shoot the R3 and think the R5II is OK, not great. I had a Z9 but sold it and keep shooting Canon. The AF just works.
I mean if you shoot the camera for its autofocus you be shooting Sony, not Canon.
@SMGJohn in this day and age, it's Sony who has a little catch-up to do in terms of autofocus. (sure the a1 II will probably be that catch-up)
@@SMGJohn I dont care for the Sony RAW files or the their color science. My favorite is Nikon but they lack the AF capability that both Canon and Sony possesses. Canon fits my needs perfectly in a world of compromise. 🤗
@@romani8494 Agreed 100%!! 🤗
I think in this day and age, they need a R1S and R1R where they prioritise speed or resolution. I would have loved a rugged, weather sealed beast for wildlife and landscapes like my old 1DX but 24MP simply isn’t enough these days…
Why is 24MP not enough? What is it that you would want that requires more?
@@JPdeRuiter Because it is a flagship camera, it is supposed to put everything else to shame… with 0 compromises. No one needs 40FPS… that is just utterly ridiculous. Being able to crop images, reframe, forgo carrying some longer lenses is indispensable if you need to punch in further. You say it is enough but look at the same image with 24v60MP on something like a 4K-5K monitor and the detail difference is insane with good optics. My 1Dx is over a decade old now and it’s 18MP. They need a high resolution offering with all the rugged features.
"...simply isn’t enough these days..."
How are "these days" any different than the days ten years ago?
@@whatcouldgowrong7914 I guess Nikon is just better than Canon. 🤷♂
Can we get like 100gb internal storage. My 1/6 of the price phone doesn’t need a memory card.
A 1 tb nvme drive is like $60, for the price they charging for every camera out there now days each camera should come with at least 500gb!
It still feels like it should be called the R3 Mark II.
And the real R1 should be a direct competitor to the Z8 and A1II with higher MP and optional grip.
Waiting for a 24mp battle between the R1 vs A9iii
The AF subject tracking shown here is subjective because the arena seats are empty with no faces. The R3 and R5m2 both have tendenacies to jump back and forth with AF given lots of faces in the frame, so is R1 even stickier? No mention of comparing high iso images vs R3. The R1 is not a specialized camera, just an incremental upgrade from R3 imo. As an R3 owner, the real upgrade path is a R5m2 and not the R1.
amen
The other thing to note here is regarding sports, a 24mb body with a 100-300 is perfect for hockey or basketball with enough focal length to fill a good portion of the frame. Football, soccer, baseball for example I'll take the R5m2 all day long with a super tele. People mention the R1 MP as a negative, the reality is it depends on the sport and focal length needed. I think reviewers miss this concept.
This just makes me think on my a9iii. Glad to see more coversge of the R1🎉

7:25 is the hot shoe cover really that big of a deal or is it just a running “joke” at this point? I bought one for my R6II and have had zero issues removing it.
I found it tough to remove on my R5M2 the first few times but now it's easy to get off and on
They said it was really bad on the preproduction one they handled, probably just iffy tolerances on a prototype.
You should also turn on UA-cam membership, offering early access to videos and perhaps some exclusives.
Well, received the R1 on Friday. Hot Shoe cover is not coming off. Had to use force. Sanded the overlong pin out and now it works.
Do I WANT the R1?! Yes. Do I NEED the R1?! No…My 1DXMKiii has been CRUSHING it since 2020 and the R1 just isn’t ENOUGH to get me to make that move up…😅

After using a R system camera I would never go back to a DSLR. Too many advantages to the mirrorless system.
0:26 looking forward to this year's annual Chris & Jordan video. :)
If it was, it would be. But it is not 😂
@@kamilwiejaczka272 45mp at 5ms...vs 24mp at what, 3ms? That sensor readout speed, at such fast speeds, means SFA. That megapixel difference though...
The difference between my a7R photos and R6 is night and day (yes I jumped ship to Sony).
hope for a video about the A1ii on Thursday :) im so hyped and hoping for more improvements than the rumor telling :)
Your reasoning of NOT using the vertical grip is top tier BS.

Fast Wifi and ethernet for pro sports photographers where the photo has to get put as fast as possible. For all others R5.
Baked in nr on raw??? Uhhh what the flip
7:00 build in ai NR is amazing for news stringer work. The first one that gets out the picture and the story gets the sales.
You are stuck until you press stop.
Sony, Nikon, Hasselblad lets you. ONLY the Cinema line of Canon allows it. So if you need to adjust your K temperature, you have to stop the camera, adjust, press REC again. Not acceptable for anything live that you can’t interrupt the recording.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say not really...the funny thing is, not 1 single reviewer has compared the high ISO performance of the R1 vs the R3, which is the current king of the hill in this respect. I find that very odd.
How does it compare against Sony a9iii or Sony A1?
probably on par with the A93 but with better high ISO and DR due to the rolling sensor vs global sensor.
