Martina proved she was still able to compete with the very best in the world, even at the age of 37. She also beat Monica in an indoor tournament in Paris later, becoming the only player to have defeated Steffi and Monica in 1993.
Yes, but Monica beat her quite soundly in Chicago one week before the defeat in Paris. She caught a bad flu there which sidelined her for months, finally choosing to - reluctantly - play in Hamburg...
This was very impressive from Martina Navratilova. She was 36 and way past her prime, and was facing a quality opponent and fellow all time great who was in her prime. Very impressive Victory.
Martina is probably the best net player ever. She has 31 GS in doubles!!!! And all that wearing glasses.... Respect! Personally I need to wear my contact lens when playing; glasses throw me off especially when serving.
Martina's first tournament with the now legendary Yonex RD-7 racquet. It seems to have given her a new lease of life, with this win and her win over Monica at the Paris indoors.
Their age difference is 12 years ! Just think about that. Still Steffi had to fight for every single point to beat her & their H-H stands at 9-9. Both are equally great!
@@arinmajumder5218because Martina was a late developer. A same 24 years old Martina in 1980 lost to granny 37 years old BJK in Houston, struggle against teenagers like Austin & Jeager. Infact a prime 24 years old Martina lost three consecutive time to 15 years old kid Jeager in 1980/81😂😂.

She reached world number 2 at some point during the year as well! Impressive!
Navratilova 's net approach and game were one of the best...in Women's Tennis...

"Legendary" is correct! It was an absolute beast of effortless power!
What was it with this tournament that there were always so many bad calls?
Yes
we asians have small eyes. dont be mean
Even as a granny, Martina was better than Steffi.
Nope Steffi was better. Since 1987 Graf leads Martina 8-4 in h2h.
