Damn. I love that man. Everything about him. He's made mistakes but he's an intelligent guy with a lot of talent and I just have so much respect for him.
Ive watched DOWN & Metallica in Kansas City,MO Phil's voice was mind blowing as it was an indoor concert .. you could literally feel the echo of Phil's Deep voice ...
I dreamed yesterday that my high school class went to a DOWN concert, and after the concert everybody had to do an essay of the message of every song and also there was a press conference with Philip aswell. AWESOME; he shook my hand and I almost pooped my pants. I mean, the dream seemed so long, I can remember the concert hall and every song they played. That dream was so awesome.
It is undeniable that Phil seems pretty burnt out , but you have to admit that he has tremendous courage to still put himself out there. He is still a human being like the rest of us, with all of his flaws and his strengths, who has made music that speaks volumes in terms of its impact on heavy music. To all those who delight in his dysfunction, I say shame on you. I respect him for making the attempt to cope with life and convey some fragment of how he views the world with us. RESPECT
Was that the year that they toured with megadeth and heaven and hell? Because that was the year I saw them and Phils voice was still great at that point. Their energy was incredible!!!! Did they ever get the crowd moving.
My parents tell me to do my homework, i don't do it, my teachers say to do my homework, i don't do it, Phillip H. Anselmo says to do my homework, i do my fucking homework
his voice is amazing.. so deep... i know its from the drugs etc... but you can sense there is a great amount of pain and wisdom in it and that he is a person that has suffered a lot in his life :(
Great post. I always thought that Phil never got as much cred for his lyrics that he deserves. When I see him I think of him as he was as teenager, like 15 years old. He must have had a hell in school, and probably made school a hell for others as well, but still, there you have him: a smart, thoughtful, sensitive person. Man, what an asset (I might use this word wrong now, sorry for that) he must have been, but it seems no one paid attention. Great interview...best, Sandemose
I think is a great shock to him... just this, but at the same time i feel interesting what he said, its he, what he ever did in life, its down, i like a lot this band, because i feel what he said, its come from the heart, its pure, its cool.
Yeah... I was flying above NO a couple of days ago, and had all these thoughts about people that suddenly got ripped of anything they had, other than themselves. It is hard to imagine...I salute all the people who remained strong and true to themselves and their loved ones.
It's true that Phil's heroin addiction was a big part of why Pantera broke up. But as a man he deserves respect, he has contributed so much to metal and many different kinds of music in general. He is not perfect, and he made many mistakes, but he is only a man after all. He seems very remorseful of the way things went down, and I'm sure he regrets leaving Pantera. But this is a great musician here, he is not just some junkie. Phil is an icon, and he should be respected.
Phil has seen brighter days; but hes alive and kicking, he loved Dime like his brother, PanterA days are over but he keeps giving us some ownage good music. Keep on dude!
yeah dude, I miss the old phil, the sharp, intelligent, energetic phil so much, I really do. He was so much, he could've been so much more too. These interviews are painful to watch, it really brings me down.
Phil is such a strong caracter...he's been through so mucha and kids and the media have dragged him through the worst shit...but he's just right up there doing what he does best... you go Phil!
Phil tells it like it is. Makes no apologies about it. For that I appreciate his insight. He has survived Katrina as far as other natural disasters.Hope to see Down in Portland,Or soon Stac
from what i read in an interview he denied ever using heroine and he said that he was hooked on pain medication that he received after a back injury which led to the demise of his relations with pantera. he also stated that he was breaking that addiction and was goin to try and remain sober from those meds.
hey guys im going to metallica concert on nov. 9th in ohio. down is with em but i never have followed down. loved pantera, so my question is does down do any pantera songs at their concerts? or any tribute songs to dimebag? cant wait to see em, just realized phil even had another band. guess i been lost.
Dude my nose holes are fucking big :( But big nose holes are fucking metal! Back to the video/ Phil looks like he's stoned, but that's cool 'cause it's just his opinion, and he's a metalgod. He's always right even thought you don't agree. But phil is doing good now, life's good and stuff.
absolutely my friend ,at least someone has got the message..but in the early 92-93 years of Pantera they also said they kick ass and stuff ,but what the fuck ? THEY DID KICK ASS,metal became lethal with pantera ,and with phil ,hell yes ,and DOWN is perhaps the best 'metal' band i have ever seen in my life ..we need bands like DOWN.Lot's of people hate phil ,LOOOOTS of them ,but i think we don't belong with those guys greetz from Belgium
yea go to his main website u can hear him speak and sound sharp as an owl big difference than here i seen it and was like dam he sounds like the old phil
yeah, down is the shit. the entire band is fuckin talented, like extremely talented. fuckin bower plays the drums fuckin smooooothly, he flows. you can tell rex is playin the bass too, fuckin magic. kirk and pepper fuckin play like madmen, phil has the voice. great songwriting, every song they have is worthy of being on repeat. fuck yeah.
yeah...:-( Good God... I cannot even imagine. I also liked the way he said that "everyone became equal, the rich and the poor, after the hurricane..." This is a very horrifying thing that happened there.
He's just very buzzed in this interview. To call him a wreck is just wrong! I grew up with Pantera and loved them (still love them)but i think Down is some of the best music he has ever done!
Damn, seems phil has grown a lot more introspective and deep man over the years haha and everything he says is so true, like the fact he's over the "rage" lyrics aspect, in over the under he doesnt even use the F word anymore, cool for him!
love his hair this way
I wanna see him grow his hair out again while he still can lol
Looks Like Snape 😂
Damn. I love that man. Everything about him. He's made mistakes but he's an intelligent guy with a lot of talent and I just have so much respect for him.
Handsome Phil Anselmo!!!
he looks awesome with long hair
when Phil talks everybody keeps quiet and listen
he s one of the gods...
Man, this is sad to watch. Phil's wild days have really taken a toll on him.
A true legend. Keep doin' what you love.

this is the era i got to see down live. when he had the long hair. seen em again this year at rock on the range, but 2008 shows were fucking amazing
@EMG ESP, i agree, i saw the 'Over the Under tour and the show was unbelievable, such a raw, out for blood, trueness
Is it just me or did he have so much more vitality with that longer hair?
Was that the year that they toured with megadeth and heaven and hell? Because that was the year I saw them and Phils voice was still great at that point. Their energy was incredible!!!! Did they ever get the crowd moving.

his voice is so deep my speakers are vibrating along the desk haha
I love how he always sounds like he's either high or drunk
Sounds...yep
drugs
Balls of steel that's Phil.
i like the insight phil has about music, truly it must come from inside wether from the heart or the soul.
He took a shot on this night and it wasn't whiskey. But I have stuck with him since 1992 when I was 12 and always will.
It was pain medicine from his back surgery, not heroin.
Methadone
Soma and lyrica.. pain meds.
@@Neo-Midgar this was years after his back surgery. He’s admitted since this interview he has relapsed on heroin many times.
I was there that night, amazing show, amazing band, amazing MAN!

High or not I find this interview very interesting and what Anselmo says makes way more sense than almost all of the comments posted here.
from what i read in an interview he denied ever using heroine and he said that he was hooked on pain medication that he received after a back injury which led to the demise of his relations with pantera. he also stated that he was breaking that addiction and was goin to try and remain sober from those meds.
sometimes he sounds like he's about to cry.. =P hehe.. You gotta love Phil. Great guy
this man is smart, and a great song writer... much more then i can say for 99% of the posters here......
Man , hate seeing him so intoxicated.
One of the last great heavy front men , hope he sobers up caused a body cant take such abuse for so long.
Well. look at the newer interviews where he isn't high and on those sinister back pain pills. He's so damn sharp, it's crazy
hey guys im going to metallica concert on nov. 9th in ohio. down is with em but i never have followed down. loved pantera, so my question is does down do any pantera songs at their concerts? or any tribute songs to dimebag? cant wait to see em, just realized phil even had another band. guess i been lost.
