  • It's been over a month since Dragon's Dogma 2 has been released, and finally I played enough of it to get a rough idea about this game.
In today's video we discuss what I liked and what I didn't about this new videogame, making some comparisons with Monster Hunter in order to get a better understanding about some aspects of the game.
I hope you will enjoy it!

dark arisen offers more in terms of challenge not only the game has a hard mode but bitter black ile offer a dungeon crawling experience with randomize loot that gives you sense of progresion unlike dd2.

The ferrystones are not a problem at all after a bit you just buy them at the items merchant, they keep respawning in stocks every couple of days

    - Playing with only a single save file is what makes Dragon's Dogma well "Dragon's Dogma". It's part of its identity and somewhat part of the lore similar to the Brine.
    - I'm not sure how others play the game, but Ferrystones are PLENTY enough that I even have 99 in my storage and 24 in my character inventory when I ended my first playthrough. That's how EASY you can get them in-game.
    - I play both Dragon's Dogma and Monster Hunter and there should be no comparison between the two as they are unique in their own, except that they are made by CAPCOM and you fight big monsters.
    - There are ways to avoid ambushes when riding Oxcarts. If you actually listen to what NPCs say, you should know that it's safer to travel early morning or you can just use the Trickster augment.
    - If you complete Unmoored World, you will be offered to start a "New Game" or start "NG+" with most of your items from previous playthrough. Take note that this is basically the start of "Dragon's Dogma II" as the title state. Your first playthrough only says "Dragon's Dogma" which is basically just an improve version of your Dragon's Dogma 1 gameplay and that you haven't broken the cycle as an Arisen.

      1. That doesn't change anything. The fact that you can irremediably compromise your save and can't have the possibility of starting a new save is not cool the way I see it. If you like that, it's fine, I don't.
      2. Ferrystones are not common. Yes, you can buy 1 Ferrystone for 10K Gold from a merchant, but that's too much, the house you buy in Vermund is 20K, and a single Ferrystone is half the price of your house, not cheap. Also, you can only buy 1. There's only 1 merchant where you can buy 3 of them, but I don't remember where this guy is on the map. In towns you can only buy 1 per time.
      3. Where is it written that people can't make comparisons? I played DD2, and I inevitably compare some aspects to MH. I didn't compare the games 1:1, but just some mechanics.
      4. Oxcarts travel only in the morning. You can't board an oxcart in the afternoon or evening. I should waste 1 skill for reducing the chance of getting attacked when using oxcarts? No, thank you.
      5. I think NG+ is good, but doesn't fix the issues previously mentioned.
Anyway, I didn't want to attack the game. I had fun playing it, but if you want an honest review then I couldn't omit those elements that I didn't like.

@@PeppoLS1. It is a desgin choice. Sure you can dislike it, but that single save system IS a feature. Messing up your playthrough and you are locked out of a quest? Yes that is what devs wanted to happen. This game is designed to go through multiple playthrough. You can dislike the design, but it's a not a flaw or a problem. That's like saying street fighter has a problem because they shoot fireball, and you like fighting games like tekken where characters fight up close.
      2. Ferrystone is fairly common, you can steal them from ghosts right outside of Vermund at night. There are more ways to get Ferrystone than just purchasing them from merchants. Also merchants should restock items after few game days. That's what i heard, but not too sure because i never had to buy one before.
      3. 2 games are made under very different design. Thought MH players should know this better because for the longest time game journalists and western fans treated MH like flawed series for being not like other games, often calling it obtuse, unfriendly to gamers, etc. It took nearly a decade for MH to be accepted for being different. Thought MH players would be more accepting of different game design considering their history.
      4. Ox carts travel only in the morning yes. But there are other ways to reduce monster encounters such as holding items dropped by ogre. Also the fight is incredily short anyway, so it is at best very minor annoyance. Besides, random encounters also help when you want to visit other areas instead of next town, as you can deviate in the middle of the road. I hop on ox cart wanting random encounters sometimes due to this.
      5. This game is designed around NG+, so many of your complaints like single save file fixes it.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the journey. I've had the first game sitting in my library for quite some time now. Hopefully I get around to playing it soon. I don't know anything about the story, but I'm kinda hoping it has something like the unmoored world in it too. That stuff looked sweet

The sad thing is that they removed some content from the game, including: additional professions and bosses, and they will only want to give them to us in the DLC.
Compared to DD 1, the big advantage is End Game, which is much better, but the Piece system has been dumbed down and there are no longer useful texts from our Pieces that inform us about our opponents' weaknesses.
The plot is worse than the first game and the Dragon himself is accidentally added to the end, whereas in Dragon's Dogma 1 it was obvious that the entire action was created by him.
The DLC will probably provide us with some interesting classes and an even better End Game for Grind.

In DD1, Grigori appears as he us being summoned by the Salvation cult.
In both games, Dragon appears identically.
I do agree DD1 had better story, but just saying.

Secret of Mana was old game that offered exploration without separate rewards. It was ok because exploration itself was the reward.
Hopping onto griffin, riding to the nest, only to find out the nest existing in misty part of the land that is full of undead, that kind of unscripted adventure is the beauty of this game.

I think this game will be mostly boring for new players. This game is designed for OG DDDA players and yet, Capcom should do better than this. For me this game is like the 2024 upgrade of the old game with VERY LITTLE new content added to it. Kinda disappointing tbh.

I disagree, coming from dd1 recently replayed, I feel as dd2 is much weaker when you already know most of the mechanics that make this game unique, such as mounting, vocations, fast travel etc. New players will actually enjoy a game that feels unique, old players will experience what is essentially a 1.5 version of the old one. Dd2 is much more a reboot of the first one rather than a sequel, and for this reason, new player will just enjoy a better version of the same game.

I didn't like dragons dogma 1 and I also didn't like this game. The combat is abysmal, the game tedious, the pawns annoying, and the story bad. Really only BBI solves some of the issues but even then, the combat just isn't good IMO. It's also quite easy which is a bit of a let down. This game especially which has 2 classes with permanent invincibility (thief and mystic spearhand) and another with almost perma invincibility (spamming the upgraded shield spell with mage). Even when you aren't doing that, the bosses all attack SO slowly that it feels like the animations are running at 50% speed or something.
