Born and raised in the US, living in Phoenix, Arizona. I am lucky enough to have a laundry room with a washer and dryer. But I absolutely love your cozy home!
Love your videos, Caroline! I’m from the southern United States and my grandma had a pulley (but she also didn’t have indoor plumbing until 1970 so she’s a special case). Lots of clothes lines here year round though! (Reminder for those in UK that the high in the summer here is around 40C and the low is only -6C so not much need for the pulleys in general since it’s so hot). Thanks for sharing your life, your beautiful home, and the stunning views of Skye. ❤
So thankful for your chat about Nuala! I have a golden retriever who also gets to a point of hyper stimulation that it can very hard to get her to listen to us or even respond to high value treats and when it happens you can feel like such a bad owner but in reality it's just the hard parts of owning a dog sometimes despite trying your best!
Hello from Florida USA. We have a laundry room with a "tumble" dryer but I do have a wall-mounted drying rack. I hang all my clothes to dry. My husband uses the tumble dryer for his clothes and underwear and we use it for towels, sheets, etc. I have mostly English and Scottish DNA so I have really enjoyed seeing Scotland through your channel.
Just discovered you & loving watching non stop! I’m from Wilmington North Carolina. Never heard of a pulley before-great idea. I have a dryer & haging out clothes is not allowed where we live! ☹
Loved this video, Caroline! I'm originally from Liverpool, UK but have been living in France for the past ten years. Recently moved from Paris to Montpellier in the south where the weather is mostly sunny with blue skies (but it does get super windy) so we mostly dry our clothes on the line in the garden but our washing machine is in the kitchen too! Love your pulley so much and hope to have one if our dream of buying a house in the Dordogne comes true! 🤞🤞
I have seen pulleys when I lived in Scotland but I have a tumble dryer here in California (for the record, I’d gladly trade the tumble dryer to be able to move back to Scotland.)
It’s funny when you talk about the switch in your collie’s head. We have a rescue corgi/Australian Shepard mix and she has the same thing. She’s very much different from our corgis. Our others I trained and are fairly predictable but our Lola is not. We noticed that we have to put the toys up or after a while she gets this crazed lazer focus on the ball where there is no getting through. Must be a herding instinct. ❤
Caroline I swear I love your vlogs mostly because you're so proudly scottish and proud and promote local businesses 🩵. I have had a "pully" twice, first as a kid in westend of Glasgow in tenament flat amd secondly in a flat in my 30s .. love them I do have a tumble dryer now but grudge using it Hopw you have an amazing week and can't wait for next video! 🥳🏴🏴🎉
Nuala becoming overstimulated sounds just like my collie, Cookie, who is the same. I have to watch her around fast moving things and kids! 😂. I love A-nochd a' Chiad Oidhche 'n Fhoghair and also Air Fàir an Là especially! Such beautiful voices 😍 My granny had a pulley in her farmhouse kitchen in Ireland and my sheepdog trainer in Northern England did too. Great little invention!
I love your vlogs. You are so stinking cute! Your dog is cute and of course Scotland is the best. No pulleys in the US. I love to knit and those woolly wools are hand washed . I have a wooden rack . to put things on. My mom hung out the wash even in the winter . Clothes and sheets would freeze and dry. So soft and smelled so great. Thank you for your videos. and how honest you are . ❤
I’m from Sydney but live Brisbane, Australia. I stayed with my bestie in Edinburgh and they had an awesome large pulley in the kitchen with super high ceiling . We have inside washing lines in the garage & then a hills hoist outside. We do have a dryer when it’s Summer rain (monsoon season) as it’s so wet inside as well things don’t dry. Loved the concert !
Based in the Netherlands. I am familiar with a pully . Not that I have one but have seen many over the years. In magazines, period films an series. Love English/Scottish rural interiors. So like your interior des8gn as well!❤
Hey Caroline! It’s pottering for me too and I’m based in Singapore. :) in Singapore apartments we typically have “service yards/balconies” which is basically a laundry room with a pulley system drying rack or now, automated ones that you don’t have to lift yourself and also comes with fans, a light and sometimes a heating element so we can dry our clothes even on rainy days in Singapore since it’s so humid here sometimes. We don’t really use dryers as much because it’s so hot here most of the time! Haha. Though I do have a washer dryer. But I love hanging clothes to air dry. It’s quite therapeutic for me. Hehe
Hi from the central coast Australia! It will be summer here soon but your video has inspired me to transform my bedroom into a cosy Scottish cottage vibe 😂 Also thanks for sharing Sian! They are fabulous and our new favourite family dinner time music choice
Born and raised in England (but my parents are not british!) and now I live in the Netherlands. I have never seen a pulley before in real life, I love how cozy it looks though! I would worry that clothes might end up smelling like food (which is a big pet peeve of mine!) but ive heard its not too bad :) I guess you wouldn't start deep frying somethings after putting your clothes up haha! Love the cozy vibes in your videos 😊 Edit after watching a bit more: I also got super excited when wearing tights for the first time this season the other day!!! I got some new ones which have a line going down the back. The ultimate autumn wardrobe piece!
I knew you were going to say the word “quirks” before you even said it when talking about collies. I have one too and that’s exactly how we describe him - he has sensory overload when there’s a lot going on, he has his own quirks that only we understand. They are amazing dogs but you need to know their funny wee ways 😂. He’s a Munro bagging collie as well 🐾🥾 but has yet to bag his first Skye one. He did climb Dun Caan on Raasay in May though!
Hi from a french subscriber here in Paris, France, we don't have pulleys here but I find it very practical I have seen it at another youtuber's house (Madeleine Olivia)...don't have a tumble dryer neither. Love your dog , she's sooooo cute and your island, thank you so much for your wonderful videos. I also just refresh my makeup 😉
Hi I’m from NYC and love your vlogs. You’ve introduced me the pully. The washer and dryer here is located in the basement. I do want to pull away from using the dryer, though.
Alaska here, my washer and dryer is located in my bathroom when we built the house it just seemed appropriate. Most people have laundry rooms. I've said , puttering around maybe twice in my life, but yea puttering .. btw i hang cloths off my deck in the summer. I love air dry clothing . 🎉🎉🎉
I have a Sheila maid ceiling airer it’s got six slats, I’ve had it at least 15 years and it’s one of the best things in the house, mine is in the kitchen positioned above my wood burner. Heather
Hello from the shores of Lake Superior in Canada. I love putting my washing out on the clothesline to dry, but we personally don’t use it in the long Canadian winters (except for freshening up our blankets and bedding). Some folks do, and I know my grandmother always used her outdoor clothesline in the winters. Our new house does not yet have one but it’s on my list of yard improvement projects. However I think I would like one of your pulley systems for hanging ironed quilting fabric in my sewing room.
I just adore your dog-walking coat! I adore your entire style, really. Please don't ever feel silly plugging your clothing/skin care/make up brands. So many of us living our Skye fantasies through you. 😍
In the US (A surburb north of Chicago), my washer and dryer is in my closet which is great for putting clothes away lol However, growing up I had a clothing line in my backyard in Florida.
Went to that pizza place when I visited! It’s a great place! As a tourist be mindful that places seem to close earlier at dinner then we thought. Having such a great time seeing sights we almost missed dinner. Luckily we made it and the pizza was awesome!!
I’m in Australia I love your way of life. I think you live a wonderful peaceful way. I love to “ potter “ like you. I do have a laundry with washer and dryer but it’s not the be all end all. Don’t use the dryer much in Australia. Where I am in Newcastle our winters aren’t as cold as yours but our summers are another thing all together. I love your make up.
Love love my pulley too and I'm in England :) We just call it the rack, but did you know they're also called a Sheila maid! Originally Edwardian, a lady called Sheila decided to bring them back into use in the 1980s!
I spent 2 days on skye last week for the first time and really loved it (despite the weather) so now I‘m back home in hamburg, germany and I‘m really glad about your videos 😊 and I‘d really love a video about tatty scones as I can‘t get them at home
I live in Maine, USA and we don’t exactly have a laundry room, but we managed to squeeze an attached washer/dryer machine into a corner of our pantry area. But honestly I would love to have one of those pulleys to hang dry things, as I would prefer not to run the dryer all the time!
My pulley is in the flat roofed extension as well ! I’m on Lewis…everyone take care of ticks ..I’ve had Lymes , which is still effecting me as has one of my daughters
Never seen a pulley and I’m in, QC Canada. I like the concept though, especially in the colder months when the wood stove is going and the house is super dry. Seems like a good way to save on energy bills.
Haven't seen a pulley before, looks very useful. I do have a clothes dryer that's rarely used. Use wooden drying racks that unfold & sit in the floor. Like you, they suit me to a T😁 Good reminder about ticks, especially for the four legged family members! Great music, greetings from Iowa
I miss my pulley! Both of my grandma’s in Greenock had pulleys in their kitchen and I had one when I lived in a farmhouse in Crieff. Now however, I live in Cornwall and I miss it. I do have a tumble dryer but try to keep costs down as much as possible 🙄
From Austria, I have enough space for my washing machine in the bathroom but a lot of apartments here have it in the kitchen. We used to have pulleys in Hungary :) So nothing unusual for me 😊
Hey there! I'm visiting Portree in Oct and wondering if you have any recommendations for a more "local" pub and/or gastropub in the city? We don't have a car so it needs to be walkable from the main area. I love watching your channel and it's getting me excited about my trip! ETA: US viewer here and have never seen a pulley before but have seen drying racks. I live in an apartment building so our building has one washer/dryer to share.
Grew up in Alaska. Never had a pulley. Grew up with washer and dryer. Now I have a drying rack just in case the dryer stops working ha ha. Next summer I plan to use only the rack outside and save on electric bill.
Have you listened to the Rankin Family from here in Nova Scotia? Most of their stuff is older now as some have passed and some have independent music careers but they’re Celtic-inspired traditional music with some Gaelic songs as well. You might enjoy!

We have a pulley “sheilamaid”, it hangs above the rayburn and everything is dried by the morning. Definitely cheaper than running a tumble dryer!
I dream of having a ray burn!!
