This looks so good, and shows the importance of music variety on a rhythm game. Great review!
I've had 2 play sessions tonight with this fantastic game. The feedback from the move controllers sells it. A lot of fun to play. The photon torpedo noise is neat too!
Already addicted to this game!!! I'm so particular about music, and Synth Riders just knows what's up. The mapping is cleverly done and makes you feel like you're possessed by a good dancer. Excellent review, so on point!! 🦋
Great Review! I hope this game and its DLC go on sale unlike Beat Saber, since I don't think I can justify buying all those music packs in one go.
As a matter of fact there is a 20% discount during this launch week for active PS+ members.
$/€ 19,99 for the standard game with 54 songs (3 hours and 3 minutes of content)
$/€ 43,99 for the complete edition with 79 songs + 2 new levels (5 hours and 12 minutes of content)
That's a bargain compared to other games in the genre!
This is an absolute blast to play! The Muse Algorithm experience is just insane. I felt like Matthew McConaughey in the movie Interstellar, where he enters the 4th dimension in the Tesseract. Don't forget there is a 20% discount during this launch week for PS+ members.
algorithm alternate reality version is perfect for a game like this, and I can't even imagine how it feels to do it in vr
That song/experience on itself is a system seller. The first time it almost brought tears to my eyes and now after several months it still doesn’t get old
Do you get the experience with the single song DLC or do you have to buy the bundle?
@@JoeJackWagner I think by the algorithm experience they just mean the song
@@JoeJackWagner you can buy the song separately from the dlc and it will include the experience
I’m brand new to vr but this is the game I use to show off how immersive and fun VR can be.
I have been eagerly awaiting the release of Synth Riders on PSVR. I already own it on Quest 2 but I wanted to play it on PSVR because of the move controllers, which I feel is a great fit with the game. Although it is disappointing that it was released on PSvR without multiplayer, I have complete faith in the devs bringing it ASAP, I have found that the Synth Rider devs are very connected and receptive to their user base. Great review Bryan, can't wait to battle you in multiplayer!
Just download added and tried a few tracks and I'm having a lot of fun with it.
I would have overlooked it if it wasn't for the muse tracks and I'm glad I tried it because there's a lot of music genres I wouldn't have thought to try that work great in this game.
As you said in the review, there's no point comparing to beat saber as they both offer a different experience, so I'm just glad they both made their way to psvr
As a gen x punker, you sold me on Pennywise, Bad Religion and the other skatepunk greats from the 90’s. Now if we can just get NOFX on there, I’ll be a happy man. 🤘🏼
Wow. This game just blew my mind last night. You've managed to capture watchable footage! Well done! Lol. I watched my livestream back and it's a mess, from all the bobbing around.
It's so addictive and fun. And yea pretty glad the mplayer isn't there yet. We need time to catch up with quest players.
I love the 140° spin mode.
Were you using the PS to stream or a capture card? :)
@@ThatRandomFastingGuy straight PS4 stream. I don't even have a PC :( lol
@@twitcherthesingleplayergamecat haha sorry about that! :)
What a great month for VR.
Punching notes? Upcoming multiplayer? Maybe boxVR nights can alternate with synth riders. Wicked awesome review Bryan. Keep up the great work my good man. :D
Looking forward to this - I thought Beat Saber was exciting because you moved your arms in wide ranges, but Audica was a bore and a chore as I was just standing there exercising a single finger and wrists. I like the fact that this makes you move your whole body. Gotta pick it up!
What’s the song called starting at 1:47?
This game is so much better than beat saber. The music alone is far superior but the movements this game let's you do are amazing! I've bought it twice already (Quest and Steam) but I will also get it for PSVR. That's how good it is.
Sweet! Definitely like the music selection in this game over the other PSVR music rhythm games. Rockin' review!
Oo like the rating and options info at end
Sick gameplay
Thanks! I hadn't given this game a second thought, loving Beat Saber and haven't even touched PIstol Whip yet. This sold me on checking this out for PSVR 2!
Wasn't in my list, but you guys just made it sound so cool, I want it. Can't get it now, but will definitely buy it soon.
Bought this game based on your recommendation here, and i've gotta say the 'you find yourself smiling' comment is more true than i'd thought 😂 it's great fun, $80AUD well spent.
WAY better songs than beat saber, but the gameplay isn't something you should compare to beat saber imo. It's along a similar vein, but Synth Riders is more of a dance rhythm game whereas beat saber is more of an action rhythm game
Personally, i find it more fun than beat saber, and there's a lot more songs that i enjoy.
I just got done playing last night and I'm throughly surprised with how much I enjoyed this title. I'm certain this will have my attention for quite sometime. Fantastic review as always Bryan
Great review! I had fun playing this today 😁
Thanks for the review, splendid work as always! Just bought it thanks to this and burned 700kcal right off. Recommend Beat Saber Expert playsers to start on Hard, trying Expert tomorrow!
Thanks Bryan! This looks like a solid workout title. Do you need a decent sized play space, and if so is there an option for a smaller space like in Oh Shape?
*meow swipes*
I don't have a lot of space to play with here in my apartment. But like most games, if you can stand in one place and stretch both your arms outwards, you should be fine in Synth Riders too. :D
As Bryan mentioned you don’t need a large play space. When I play on Quest I use stationary boundary. This draws a circle on the ground with a diameter of about 4 feet. It is possible to increase the roomscale in .1x increments. Not sure if you can go below 1.
@@WithoutParole alright. Looks like I'll be giving this one a go. Thanks again!
There's actually a scale slider, so you can make the play space a little smaller
That is an awesome feature and I didn’t know it existed. Nice!
I just got it after you talked about it on a stream. Love it so far. I still like beat saber better but this is less exhausting than beat saber because there's less movement required.
I have a question: I loved Beat Saber but it killed my right shoulder. Is this game similarly heavy?
Most likely yeah. Tbh I would say even heavier on the harder difficulties. Beat saber is mostly wrist heavy whereas Synth is total body heavy. I’ve been injured on the shoulder too from playing this. It was totally worth it though.
Good point, but honestly on higher difficulties like expert+ (beat saber), I find myself using my entire arm to swing for notes so I can understand sore muscles. And since you move your entire body in synth, it may take some of the pressure off. It’d be different for each person though. So I’d suggest experiencing it for yourself :P
it can be shoulder heavy if you use the wrong movements but not so much in the OST songs, remember to move your body and warm up before doing the faster paced ones.
I had a trapped nerve in my right arm making shoulder hurt. When it hurt alot I stopped playing beat saber and played synthrider for a few days. Just one song hurt shoulder in synth rider for me and that's the beginning 20 seconds of crab rave the original version. I defo feel from a arm and top part body beat saber can be more punishing but it also depends how you play. I move around like a worm of lsd. So there's that
Oh, sounds like a must-buy! Take my money !
This game is a blast in the higher difficulty settings. Coming from Beat Saber which shares similarities such as objects coming at you with the rhythm, it was easy to pick up and play. The music list is great too!
Did you buy the standard edition?
It looks fun ima get it
That last song sounds so much like celldweller.. 😅
Good ear! There’s more celldweller btw
I’m not the biggest fan of Rhythm games, but i can see the enjoyment when the multiplayer drops, perhaps I’ll pick it up when that comes out with the game :)
Great! Looking forward to all the new Riders
love synth rider, i have bought all the songs on steam because i can also use custom songs. i hate the psvr2 version doesnt alow custom songs. its the main reason i played synth rider over beat saber. honestly i hope you find a way to let people load custom soongs becasuie synth riders present library isnt enough.
Im not a fan of rhythm games but this looks great. I'll def add it to my wishlist
Its just a shame it released on summer, a lot of people are going to have a hard time because of this haha
Oooooo time to see if it’s good
Saw this was coming yesterday, i love rytmgames so i bought the complete edition today, wow wow, this is legit, the mapping is so good, will play the shit out of this game, lets get thoose pounds melting xD
This seems a lot like Dance Collider for PSVR. How do they compare?
So if you were showing a friend VR for the first time and wanted to make an impression, which game would you let them try first: Beat Saber or Synth Riders?
Tough call. I think Beat Saber is more immediately satisfying though, so let's go with that! :D
Both, they are equally impressive.
@@WithoutParole Don't forget about the "Experience" levels in Synth Riders. I think those will be my new default VR showcase whenever someone wants to 'experience' (no pun intended) what VR is all about. I'm a seasoned PSVR player, yet that Muse experience had my jaw on the floor! One the most profound VR experiences i've had so far!
@@ThaBEN_NL you are totally right. As soon as you become better with Synth and are playing on harder difficulties, beat saber feels very boring.
Wasn't interested in this but then saw some gameplay then the price £15.99. Gonna get it but then I saw a £35 version with all songs. Do I just go big with this?
Tbh, the dlc is ridiculously good, especially the experiences with that one from Muse standing out. I don’t think you’ll regret it
I was going to get the standard pack and the Synthwave (muse) pack and wait for the rest of the packs to go on sale. Then I realised it was only an extra £13 for the full thing and that the other 4 packs would need a serious discount to be better value so I took the plunge. Didn't regret it.
Well I went and purchased the full package. Thought I would have a quick go, 1 hour later and I'm still going. So addictive. Currently #1 on rancid - time bomb..........easy mode.
@@lukehayes3981 heck yeah
still prefer beat saber. will it come to psvr2?
Always down for the music games, even when they aren't all that in terms of gameplay, as it's how I got introduced to the music of Avicii, which I really dig. So much the better when it has the extra element like Beat Saber. I love em all, and that means this one is another one to pick up soon.
Is playing while sitting possible? It looks like the sort of game you'd have to stand for.
Definitely gotta stand for this one. And it's worth it. Feels amazing to play.
Definitely a buy!
Very very good game
Now that looks likes a lot of fun!
This is the game I play the most… just got to love it
gorillaz got me wanting to check this out on psvr2 in a bit
Gorillaz pack is cripsy 🔥
Can someone compare this to Pistol Whip ? That game did great at making you move to the music, especially the Heartbreaker DLC
wow. LOOKS incredible also!
Fantastic game, highly recommended!
Well I played one tune, got perfect (Easy mode of course) and... forever loading screen
Hopefully a patch will be released before I try again tomorrow :p
........Now I want Guitar Hero VR............or more specifically Beatles Rockband VR ;-)
I'm absolutely dyin for a VR rock band game. It would obviously work perfect for drums and vocals but I'm not sure they could really do the guitar justice with move controllers, or even the orbs on PSVR2. I doubt anyone's gonna put out a vr rock band game with a guitar peripheral tho so our chances are likely not good. Well, we'll just have to hope someone makes one in dreams. Get on it AJ. ;)
Seems like a worthy addition
Can i play sitting down, disabled???
Fun game- I have it for the Quest 2… too bad no 360 mode for psvr…
Great game , cool music
This doesn't look like it would be as good as beatsaber to throw random vr-virgins into. Beatsaber immediately makes you feel like a bit of a badass. This... I don't see how it's going to make me feel "cool" in the headset. (I know nobody looks cool from outside the headset. That doesn't matter)
I'm sure opinions will vary but I totally agree with you. Luckily I buy VR games for myself, not to entertain VR-virgins with lol :D
@@WithoutParole and that, for me, will 100% rely on the playlist. Which you said is good. I'll be looking that over before I decide to make a purchase.
Intriguing. I might get it. But I already have a huge backlog as it is... can't find the time to play anymore. ;(
OMG
Hello
I don't enjoy beat saber at all. Its too blocky for me and the sword action i don't like.
I enjoy SR a lot, especially at expert+ and the thousands of custom maps
the custom mappers make it last even longer than the included songs.
I like maps by artanis.
its also cool that the stage can be loaded separately than the map/song
multiplayer is big, but I play solo.
To me it is the only game that makes a quest 2 worth buying.
This is freaking dance collider and nobody's saying it. Lol
The reason nobody's saying it is because the reference would be totally lost. No one knows what Dance Collider is. And Dance Collider kinda sucks. Lol
@@WithoutParole yeah. Its loaded with clearly inspiration but I always had tracking problems with Collider. But i just plaied Synth Riders about two hours ago and its a blast. So glad i was on the fence. Happy to be totally wrong. Going BACK IN!
100% agree, Dance Collider was *definitely* inspired by Synth Riders. I'm glad you're having fun dude! :D
@@WithoutParole no dude. Ots the other way around but dam is this game fun. Kept telling myself "just one more"
@@oxEgenEP4211 Synth Riders came out 2 years before Dance Collider on PC. Just sayin. :D
These movement games make me sweaty, so I have to take off the helmet regularly. Not a fan.
You can turn off all forward movement in the options - hopefully that helps you out!
Game is totally overrated save your money
Hey Adam! What don't you like about it?
You are?
