  • Well everyone I know it has been awhile since I put anything up. Thanks for staying tuned! I was working on this Dixie Chopper and ran into something so unique I had to share this with y'all. I've never seen this on a mower before. Thank you for watching.

    Thanks brother. A friend of mine was having trouble with his Dixie chopper. Couldn't figure out why it would just randomly shut off or not start. You were spot on and God bless you!!!!!!!

    Ohman, I've been losing my mind trying to figure out what the hell happened to my Dixie after changing her coils and then she wouldn't fire up. This video saved me from a lot of frustration and wasted time. Thank you!

    I used Dixie Chopper mowers for 22 years. I knew that there was a mercury switch installed but never saw it. Occasionally I would hit a bump too hard, and the engine would shut off. It would always restart.

    I just got this LT2400 In my shop today. I'm really excited to have a Dixie chopper in my shop. I don't know if I'll feel the same way when it's out of my shop but at least I can say I have one under my belt lol

    Great video, I will be remembering that! Oh side note, mice like to chew wire insulation because it's made of soy, peanut oil, or rice husks. Seems like they are just begging for rodents to come destroy our stuff, lol.

    Thats Totaly Incredible & if You Take A 2 to 3 inch of Plumers Tape & Stick That Upside-down NO ONE IS GOING TO STEAL Your Mower & All You Have To Do Is Just Pull it Out & Let it Hang Or Put It In pointed Down To Use It Real SIMPLE & Still Safe !!!!! 🙄🙃🤠😉

    Had something similar on an outboard engine doing the same to me. At the time, I thought it was a safety of sorts. It was in the tiller handle. Thought maybe if you rolled or flipped the boat it would shut you off. Turns out I was correct. I gave up on the motor as it was big, old and weighed a ton.

    Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing. . I am trying to see the placement of the governor spring on a Generac GTV-760 (050582) engine that is on a Dixie Chopper zero turn mower. The spring came lose, and I'm unsure where it goes. Thanks.

      @@cannonballrepair7940 yeah I have had mine for 16 years. They are different. But I had one like it prior when I was in the lawn business. It was the heart of my work as most guys ran around with diesel Kubotas. I had my zero-turn, and loved it.

      Funny thing is I worked on mowers, mostly exmark and Stihl but fixed everything that came through the door from mosquito killers to pressure washers and I never seen a mercury switch on anything until the tilt skillet. Well thermostats used them but that’s a little different.

    So I have a older dixie chopper classic with a 27hp generac v twin bassicly this mower anyway I have a question I can't figure out how to set the governor it i had to replace one of the governor adjustment plate and when I go wide open to mow its holding it a 4000rpm and its usually at 3000 to 3500 so its like forcing the governor

  • @tracnunya7165

    i knew before you showed it, most dixie choppers have that, but if that stumped you, good luck when the hidden safety computer goes bad and you get one of those, for the record, it is hidden near the right fuel tank, and when it goes bad all kinds of crazy can happen, it controls the starter. When it goes bad the starter will not work and all the safety equipment will test a-ok, if you turn the key to run and manually jump the starter, it will run. If you bypass the safety computer you lose all safety interlocks, I have a way to just jump the starter lockout while leaving all the engine cutouts in place, but it is best to just replace the computer (NOT THE ENGINE COMPUTER, THE SAFETY COMPUTER).

    Good God I wish you were close by. I am working on the same mower. It would run before but not charge the battery. Checked the stator and it's dead. But now I have lost the spark. Everything tests good. All the safety switches have been bypassed. It does have the mercury switch so I checked it. I unplugged the kill wires on the coils, didn't make any difference. I can't see both coils going bad at the same time. Checked the black relay and it checks good. If the battery is dead and the stator is not putting out anything how could the mower run before??? I'm running out of ideas.

    • @cannonballrepair7940
      @cannonballrepair7940  2 роки тому

      The coils on this one in my video was a magneto style. They didn’t need a battery to run. Kohler has some that require a battery. That is odd for both to go out at the same time. I’d try checking the ground connections where the bolts hold the coils to the block. If there’s corrosion there the coil won’t fire. Hope that helps. Let me know what happens.

    • @Dmax04
      @Dmax04 2 роки тому

      @@cannonballrepair7940 pull the coils and shined up the mating surfaces with some emery cloth but still no spark. Just tested the ignition switch and it checks good. I already replaced the kill wire to the coils because the mice were hungry. Wonder if that mercury switch could be bad internally? I hate to just start throwing parts at this thing. So far the only thing that checks bad is the stator. Like I said before my grandson had to jump it every time he mowed but it would stay running all the time he was mowing, probably at least a couple of hours. The stator checks bad but wouldn't the mower die if the battery was dead too? Still scratching my head here.

    • @Dmax04
      @Dmax04 2 роки тому

      Couldn't be the mercury switch because it connects to the kill wire. I unplugged the kill wire and still no spark.

    • @cannonballrepair7940
      @cannonballrepair7940  2 роки тому

      @@Dmax04 if you have the kill wires unplugged and still no spark then it really sounds like bad coils. But it’s odd that both went at the same time. Is the one kill wire per coil the only connection there? Some Briggs v twins have diodes in the kill wires and if the diodes go bad it’ll cause problems.

    • @Dmax04
      @Dmax04 2 роки тому

      @@cannonballrepair7940 just one wire from one coil to the other then it goes to a black and white wire that goes inside a harness. Haven't traced them down to see where they go. Guess that will be my next step.
