5 Woodworking Tools You Have to See - ua-cam.com/video/ctyIvBVA6Lk/v-deo.html
Thanks! This wasn't the mg36, but I found it. I'm a fan of packaging, too. It says something about attention to detail, I think. Take care.
Why would I pick up both bridge city gauge Matt? I don’t understand why you recommended both?
Just sold some of my projects to a couple in my neighborhood, and they came back and gave me a really nice picture frame maker and dovetail jointer. They said it was in their basement when they moved in. I looked it up and it is over 800 bucks for the pair. I have no idea how to use them yet but I'm so excited about it and thankful for such nice people. I hope it means they really like my work
Just loving these quick tool reviews!
Love the channel, sad you didn't make the 500k in 2022. Here's hoping for 2023!
Thanks Anthony. It's all in God's timing.
I love my Suizan pull saws. I’ve had my eye on that delve square. I might have to grab one of those. I work on a lot of small stuff. It looks like it would be very handy.
I'm pretty sure that's a Japanese Pull Saw, and NOT a flush trim saw. Japanese Pull Saws do have a set to their teeth, which is why you have to put the tape down to prevent marring your project. A flush trim saw has no set to the teeth, and you don't need the tape.
That's exactly what I was thinking get a proper Japanese flush trim saw and no need for tape and next to no sanding required afterwards. 😉👍
@@CampfireWoodworksRVA I love his channel and was not being critical at all, I didn't take the other guys comment as critical either? But I the past he has mentioned learning things from the comments so hopefully we can all have grace for one another and be open to learn from one another too? God Bless
7:03 Sorry mate, but it was clear you were pushing real hard on that Forstner to ensure some unwanted breakout….then with the Owl City tool you were pressing way less for smooth exit. The movement in the work piece gave it away. That doesn’t reflect badly on the tools of course.
Yep, gotta call you out on that one. Very disappointing.
free is good
Hey, those pull saws have two sides, but they're not necessarily called a "rough" or a fine" side.
The "rough" side is for ripping, the "fine" side is for crosscuts.
This was the first thing I thought of as well.
I used to think exactly what he did until it was pointed out in a video that the ryoba saws had both types of teeth.
I had Bridgecity tools and sold them because I never used them. Great dust collectors.
Most of them seem very gimmicky
I bought the Bridge City "Kerf-maker", used it once or twice, then left it in the drawer forever. Too many moving parts and I had to re-learn how to use it each time. My old way to set up dados (using blade shims) was faster and more accurate. I finally donated it to the local charity thrift shop. This multi-tool seems like it's in the same category.
@@richpeggyfranks490 I made my own kerf maker out of aluminum. If I want to cut dado’s I use a router .
@@donhuffer5167 If I'm only making a few dados, I also prefer using a router. It looks like we agree that there are low cost, accurate alternatives to expensive tools.
@@richpeggyfranks490 with a zero clearance fixture. I ran over 500 ft of 3/4. My dado head is a dust collector. With the fixture there is zero measurements.
Best BridgeCity UG1 review and in-service yet. I've had this thing for almost a year, not realizing how many ways you can use it. Thanks Much!
I’m sure it’s more then a fine and coarse side of that saw? One side is crosscut the bigger side is rip cut
The UG-1 is an odd duck. I think the construction on the Universal Gauge is good, but I don't get use out of it. A major problem is the size and shape. It's not pocket size and it it's square so it ends up coming on and off the wall like a triangle or larger square. Having many different features isn't as important when I can't carry it on me at all times. Once I get back to the wall, I'm going to choose the tool that does the job best and that's going to be a different tool most of the time.
Many of the non-depth measuring and marking features I would rather use a Double/Combination square, a T or Saddle Square with holes, or just a ruler for. I find the depth features to be a little too fiddly to use. Because I have trouble getting the depth accurately it makes it less useful for setting up a saw blade/dado height, and the saw blade height usually needs to be different from the depth measurement anyway. I usually use a skinnier depth gauge in combination with some setup blocks.
The angle section there's a strong argument for, although I wish is was smaller because it's got such a good chance of being in the teeth of the saw blade. While I like the pictograms, the lack of detents means I want a different reference to start from if I want to be accurate. There's also the fact that the non-45 cuts are uncommon and so I just don't need to go back for the tool. But it's certainly the best feature.
I don't hate what Bridge City is doing. It's not like these things are bad. I have several Bridge City tools. But they're rarely what I reach for. There are just these little issue that get in the way of the good parts of these items. And given the premium prices, I feel like I need to use the whole buffalo to justify them. I wish they would iterate on some of the details like some of the other guys, both on the premium end and on the affordable end.
Thanks for the info. The radius jigs are a great help breaking up a table top giving it some soft curves that make it more appealing; however, you do need to be mindful of your bit height. As to the flush trim saw they are nice to have around as they are a great asset and take up little space.
Why did you use a "pull" saw in a forward and back motion?
I just acquired a set of these UG-1’s… this is great!
👊🏻👊🏻
Love your t shirt not to mention all your videos, very good info
Thank you!
Dude, you are costing me so much money! Love it!
😂
Everyone get a paddle, we are in the same boat!!😂
6:55 were you playin games
To be fair forster bits really aren't meant for through drilling. Not saying they won't, but they are made to drill a hole with a flat bottom. Candle holders towel racks......
No reason not to subscribe to your channel as you are informative, motivational, inspirational, and in general just a good dude. Really enjoy your content. Keep up the great work.
I appreciate that! 👊
Great information, and I love how you demonstrate why these tools are on your list.
My awesome daughter actually had me order and she paid for a Delve square and an 8” Paolini pocket rule. These will be my first Woodpeckers tools, I am excited. She told me she would do this on Father’s Day but wanted to wait until she got paid.
Awesome! You'll love it!
Great video brother, The Japanese ryoba saw, the fine and corse are cross and ripcut teeth respectively.
That bridge city tool looks great but can't help thinking I wouldn't use half the features on it as I'd forget all it could do lol.
Keep it up 😉
Love these tools. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Glad you like them!
Delve square looks good. Only problem with woodpecker is the delivery costs to the uk. Hint
I’ve never heard of the bridge city to. I always use my speed square, but it’s never perfect. I’d like to give this one a try
They are top quality tools
Top price but manufacturing is in china if that bothers you. I think their products are really beautifully designed
The combination square is stunning
Honestly, most of their tools are a lot more pretty than they are useful. He's sponsored by Bridge city, that's why he's shilling it.
Great selection of tools I now need! Thanks Matt.
I have the folding suizans and the folding is an extremely significant feature. they take up so little space and are so easy to move around if you're going to work outside or somewhere else or whatever. and they work quite well
Pentagon - 5 point, hexagon - 6 point, octagon - 8 point shape
BUY the Overdrive bits.....they are a game changer in the shop. unbelievable.
Sorry but I got to call you out on that wood owl overdrive drill bit test, It is easy to tell you did not push the wood owl bit through as hard as you did with the forstner bit and regular bit. It would be better if you used something that controlled the speed and force the bits go through the wood, if you are going to compare them. Any bit is going to blow out plywood if you push it hard.
Nooice! 😎
I love these videos! Every time I find something new & interesting. #3 got me today! ✅️added to wish list
Glad you like them!
I have had the 4 inch SS delve square. It’s my most used layout tool. I love it. I have a rack for it but it never gets used cause I always have it out. Great vid! PS: hit me up if you move to the Nashville area. I can definitely help you all out with good areas to move. Plus There is a Woodcraft in Franklin!
That was the best description and explanation of the UG1...I learned a couple things I hadn't known so thank you and glad for your continued success.
Glad it was helpful!
Wow the owl bit is amazing
I've been watching your videos for a couple months based purely on the UA-cam recommendations. When you asked why someone wouldn't subscribe, I thought it was a little silly, but I didn't have an answer, so you got my sub!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Bridge Ciry Tools will make you think Woodpeckers Tools are a bargain! I will for sure buy one or some of their planes one day. They are beautiful AND functional.
beautiful but gimmicky and overpriced
A sub for number 5 is an oscillating tool if you have one.
I can volch for the Delve square and the overdrive bits. Love the bits super clean holes, and the square I use that thing all the time.
I'm very impressed how positive you are, really good job and keep going, don't stop
One tip for very large holes/bits is an oldie but a goodie - you do a pilot hole through the whole board, then drill from both sides, so that when you DO break through, you are breaking through under the surface on both sides, and each side of the surfaces are clean, entry holes.
I almost got a UG-1 in that crazy sale, but I didn't know which one I wanted. Definitely gonna have to pick up those WoodOwl bits, those look awesome!
Your videos are always great. Thanks for all the info.
Do these corner guide and the square have metric measurements?
Great reviews! Now I have to decide which one I want first!
Another great Video. I really like how you present your information.
The whole purpose of Forstner bits is to leave a nearly flat bottom in blind holes. If you use them to drill through, you're using them wrong.
not really... forstner bits leave a cleaner hole more often than not no need for a backer either
You're also not supposed to use them through on upright wood while jiggling the drill. If you want a clean forstner hole you can definitely get a clean forstner hole. There are multiple ways.
I use forstner bits for making through holes in desks for cable grommets. I have used hole-saws for the same task, but I noticed the walls are much smoother and the edge is much cleaner with forstner bits. Either way, you're starting with a pilot hole and using the bit from both sides to prevent blowout on the back side. Unless you can point me to something that is as cheap and easy to use, but makes a cleaner hole than a hole saw, I will continue to "do it wrong" with forstner bits.
EDIT: I should note that the bits in the video won't work. The biggest bit they offer is 1-1/4". The smallest grommet I've ever used is 1-1/2". Though I usually use 2" grommets, or else you're going to struggle getting some grounded power plugs through the hole especially if there's any other cables already going through it.
He was pushing the forstner hard to ensure it broke out…watch the movement of the work piece. Then he went easy with the auger to give it the best chance of a clean exit. Not to say Owl city aren’t good…but he was rigging the outcome anyway. I always back a forstner through cut even with Fisch bits…why wouldn’t you for a best result?
Man I use forstner bits to make dovetails in the side of a water heater. If it works and it’s safe. It works.
Goodness, could wood workers get any lazier? That Bridge City tool gauge is beautiful, but us old guys did pretty well without it up to now. It's like having a CNC machine: no soul in the work. I guess CNC is good for production work; but, I think haste makes less than quality work. Just my opinion.

Awesome channel brother! 👏
Great video as always Matt. Wish I could hop on board the TayTool bus, but have experienced subpar product and customer service. I have numerous brands of quick adjust bar clamps and TayTools are not even close to the top. I did a comparison of 6 different brands, from verifying clamp pressure and hold, to bar machining consistency, bar weight, bar flex, clamp faces, trigger and release, etc. I hope to be putting out a video on this soon, folks might be surprised at how some “budget” brands fared. Keep up the great work and keep the Faith brother.
Is there anything that the Kreg setup bars do that the UG-1 doesn't do? (Great video btw.)
Not really. The Kreg are good for quickly setting the fence distance away from the blade. That's the only thing I can think of that's easier with the Kreg
seems pretty much like a self feeding brad point drill. Seems like the same idea as a speedbore. but you're not convincing anyone when you're leaning into the first 2 drill bits like that.
Bridge City use to make tools that were not only useful but works of art. They have a decent variety now but they just aren't what they were in the 90s and early 2ks.
Agreed. I honestly really dislike the anodized aluminum stuff. I know they are really good quality. But, they look cheap and gaudy to me.
P.s. I love your informative videos.
At first I thought "ok, another tools you gotta have video....let's go see the same stuff again."
Mr 731. I apologize. I was wrong. These are great suggestions. I scored 5 out of 5 on my "I need that!" list. Thanks for bringing some good fresh ideas to the table. Adding 5 things to my wish list 👍
Thanks!
I have that same shirt, just the RED version. Thank you for the video, I'm going to be starting my wood shop by the end of summer if all goes well!!
Those bits look pretty impressive.
your video production is spot on you guys. Great video
The UG has intrigued me for a while. I noticed that you have the Harvey miter guage. I do too, but I'd love to see you do a review of it.
Awesome content, even better shirt. Peace, brother. Thank you for sharing.
Love the videos, keep them coming! Also LOVE the "Fe sharpens Fe" t-shirt!!!
Thanks! Will do!
You can use the left tilt guage or the right just by moving to the opposite side of the table saw. So if you have a right side on a right tilt saw, you just have to walk around the table to guage your angle. Thanks for the video Matt! Always a big help and mentor. Iron sharpens iron even with wood working tools.
Great tip!
@@731Woodworks The UG is definitely going on the list of tools needed. You were right, I didn't know I needed it until now. That overdrive bit is a beauty as well. Unfortunately I already spent (a ton) on a forstener bit for my board handles. Spade bit was not sufficient at all. Your shop wall is looking great by the way.
I purchased one of the Bridge City gauges. If you check the price, it is not cheap, however, keep an eye out for sales. I actually got mine for $89 on sale. Keep an eye out for their sales. Another item to look at, is their kerf maker, the KM1 andKM2. The 3/4” owl bit works great for drilling bench dog holes if you are making your own workbench.
In fact, they are on sale right now for $109.
If you ask them, they'll give you the sale price. They're always having some kind of "special" sale.
I did this with my Harvey dust collector. Just simple by asking about the sale price I recently saw, they gave it to me at the sake price.
@@christopheralverson6278 I was checking the site, and they have a number of items on sale. I wish their block plane wasn’t so expensive. Even on sale, it is way out of my price range, especially as a hobbyist.
Fyi. 5 sides = pentagon 6 = hexagon 8 = octagon 10 = decagon. ,, now you know the names of the shapes. 😉
I have the stainless woodpeckers delve square I usually have the smaller one in my pocket. You can set up a router, table saw router table do all your layout on smaller parts by far my most used square.
I gotta pick those up! I keep looking and looking at them but haven't bought them yet.
You won't regret it I ended with the smaller and larger one burning honestly use the smaller one the most. I'll get alot of use with the bigger one as I've broke ground finally on ny 16x20 shop. Not the biggest but it's gonna be a major upgrade. I really want to thank you even though I've never met you. Your videos have pushed me to go after a 25 yr dream. It's all or nothing from here on out.
@@krisgray4025 Great to hear! Jumping in with both feet! I love it! Keep me posted on how it goes!
Will do im excited im setting the block piers for the subfloor tomorrow. I'm gonna take pictures throughout the whole project.
Matt, I don't know the math of how the channel brings in money, but I'd suggest putting out more project-based content, and less tool advertising content! Endorsements can start to become a bit hollow when your audience doesn't know for sure that you're using these tools actually making things. Conversely, when I watch other channels that are heavily skills/projects based, and they offer the rare endorsement of a tool, I know they really mean it.
Aaron, I appreciate the feedback. My project videos get 10x less views than anything else I post. My last 5 project videos were bottom of the barrel so to speak in terms of view count. Conversely, these tool videos get many more views and engagement. Therefore, I can only deduce that more people would rather watch the tool videos. As for "tool advertising," while this video was sponsored in part, the majority of my tool videos, I purchase the tools myself. If I don't like them, I don't post them and just eat the cost of the tool. If I do like them, I use them and posts my thoughts in videos just like this and link to them which helps me recoup the cost of the tools. Once I get enough "don't like" tools, there will be a video showing the tools I don't like. Hope that helps you understand my thought process on video content.
@@731Woodworks Yeah looking at your feed by popularity, it does seem like that's the case! You've definitely carved out a niche of showcasing smaller tools. I will definitely be buying those owl drill bits in this video!
@@731Woodworks and that why I love your content👊
Don’t listen to that guy. I love your products videos
Since I bought my first Japanese pull saw I haven't touched any of my old Western saws. They're simply amazing!
Is one edge always exposed on the folding double edge saw?
yes it is

Love "the Chosen" t-shirt :)
I do have the universal gauge, great tool. Only complain would be the miss opportunity to include positive stops for angles
Never knew I needed a festool colored wristband for my apple watch until I saw this video! Very interesting tool, great video!
Nice job Matt! Bridge City makes some awesome tools, the only thing that's kept me from buying them is the price, but I may eventually add some of their offerings to my tools. The Wood Owl bits are impressive. The fact that Mike at Taylor Toolworks offers them is just another reason to buy them! :) I love my Japanese pull saws. When I first subscribed to your channel I think you had 50K subs. I initially subscribed because you wore Christian t-shirts and I figured I'd help a brother in Christ out. I'm still here and will continue to support you as long as you make videos. I'm proud of you my brother. Hoping you reach your goal by year's end. :)
Thank you Lawrence!
I’m a fanboy too, lol a fanboy of true quality products and anyone that doesn’t appreciate quality tools at a premium price must not be concerned with producing the best work possible
Awesome shirt!
I like the idea of the Bridge City tool, although I probably wouldn't use all the features. I can't help but see the car designed by Homer Simpson though 😂
Hey Matt!
I got the stainless steel Delve squares. *LOVE* it. I know there are Banggood knock-offs that are way cheaper. But at some point, we have to decide as a country to be citizen's first, and consumers second. Or so it seems to me. Besides, the quality isn't even in the same ballpark. TBH, I have one or two banggood stuff. But eventually, I end up buying the OG one because of quality issues.
I've been looking at the stainless ones myself. I love the step downs at the ends for set ups.
@@731Woodworks It's very convenient. I have both (larger/small) in my toolbelt. and use the setup depth all the time.
Bannggood are only in metric.
@@timothywozniak6952 That's the least of its problems.
Um, those bits are impressive!!
Matt, my bank account hates you. My wish list for next months is so long right now. Bridge city is complimentary to Woodpeckers and I like their gray color. Thanks for this new video from France
Wood Owl overdrive bits are better to use on a plane area. I use them for our chicken coops factory for 3 years as Star M is also in Europe.
Pentagon and hexagon 😁. Good video man
I finally subscribed for ya bro. Thought I already was.
Also, from timestamp 2:55, a 5 sided shape is... A Pentagon. You know, like in Washington DC? 😂
😂 thanks 👊
Great tool, but blade angles are only accurate IF your table is perfectly level initially.
you're on fire!
I’m always needing tools, but being a Canadian the freight is a killer
I have been stalking the UG-1 for a minute now. The price tag has been bothersome....
Delve square is up next for purchase.
Keep an eye on their site as they have regular sales
Месяц, как подписан.
Do you guys know some european version of bridge city UG-1? I wanted to order one but the shipement cost twice the product
I'm not aware of any
I'd like to see a video like this but with products under $20. That tiny square nearly gave me a heart attach from the price tag 😵💫
One coming later this week with tools under $30
what make is your pegboard/organizing wall?
Here is the video I did on that wall ua-cam.com/video/hVWSGLYduvw/v-deo.html
You should do a video making the epoxy box you made.
If you were only going to by only one of the saws which one would you buy? Is it the same for me as a medium wood worker.
the double blade saw
This is a classic shil... basically a paid commercial for some expensive tools that are trying to buy "word of mouth"
If you only had use of your right hand, which gauge from BCTW would you do, right or left?
Bridge City stuff is so nice, but for the price of their tools they should come with a little guy that uses them for you haha.
Where do you get this shirt?
