I know its a Family Business and Family show so its to be expected but Bikeman I love seeing your dad get involved. He reminds me a lot of my pappy with all the gardening.
BikemanforU No problem just adding to the review, I don,t have this basket in particular, but I do own a Wald basket and I can definitely say that they are incredibly sturdy and can hold a decent amount of weight on them. They are very well made. I love my Wald basket.
I have it and I love it. you cant use it on front suspension bikes and if you have fat front forks you will need to file them own a bit, spay some rust preventative were you filed and hammer them on a tiny bit. both my dogs fit in it (20lbs total ) with room to spare. fits 6 bags of groceries.
That would be perfect for my trips to the laundry mat. Me and Wheels (my mountain bike) would be rolling. I'd tie that joker on my bike's rear carrier rack.
I have a solution for the suspension bikes. Use those hydraulic type things found on screen doors. May or may not take the weight of whatever you're carrying.
Man, I'd hafta put that bad boy on the rear of the bike...'cause if on the front, I'd need power steering! I can hear it now, Hey Preston, that's a nice basket you've got that piece of crap bicycle bolted to...
have one well built but it is huge and very heavy, if you put ten lbs in it, it screw up steering geometry, think about it do you really need this large a basket, next time am getting a smaller basket
besides the added grip the rubber grommet gives the other and important role it plays is protection from scratching bc without it, it'd be metal on metal...just my 2cents. I always like using electrical tape in situations like that bc it's almost guarantee to never slip depending on quality of rubber grommet... especially if transporting valuables...again just my opinion and we know what we say about those.....
Have to be careful with the weight distribution fore and aft as too much weight up front and you hit a small bump or something that causes the bike to flip over forwards. I much prefer a larger milk crate rear basket.
Um, no, Gromit. Try it, dog. I have one of these, actually, I have two of these baskets on my bikes. I've carried grossly heavy firewood loads on them, and while I admit that it handles quite poorly, never have I flipped nor have I ever felt in danger of "flip over forwards" as you atest.
Addendum to my previous post... We can only imagine flipping a bike with a heavy load on the front of it. I suppose if we were to descend down a slope and we hit a baby-head or a curb, ya, I guess we could conceivably "endo" it. But, really!?! Please! A basket bike used in normal utilitarian duties ain't in danger of this silly, specious example of a "flip over forwards." I know, I've been trucking heavy loads in my basket bikes for decades.
The limiting factor for groceries for me was how much I could fit on my bike's rear rack basket. With this, my wallet might be the limiting factor... If my cat would sit quietly, I'd take him to work. Unfortunately, 200 feet in a bicycle trailer and he decided he didn't like riding along :(
Hi Guys!, I'll recommend you to put your user on ebay or amazon were I can ordered direct from you. None one will try to save few bucks after the tremendous effort that you put on your reviews. That will help to grow your business.
i have installed these damn baskets , and everything is in the way when you install it, the brakes the cables …..it’s not user friendly, I prefer rear basket, it makes more sense
There would be no way I would carry that much weight on the front, nor have it that far up on the bicycle. IMO I would get a flatbed bicycle trailer, that way the gravity is low-centered, AND pulling weight(opposed to carrying weight) doesn't harbor nearly as much on the bike or fatiguing the cyclist.
Here in Finland, the bikes mostly have this horizontal thing that goes over the back wheel. You can attach baskets and such very easily and it's very sturdy because it doesn't interfere with the steering. With mine, I skipped the brackets and just used some zip ties. pic (no basket): l3.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/XYVKdcil5JuuQjEybCq27w--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NTt3PTYzMA--/l.yimg.com/os/publish-images/sports/2014-02-13/49ea66a0-94a5-11e3-857e-2d4c16ab0387_20140213_145228.jpg
I'll just do like the indiginous people's of Phoenix do... wheel home a $2K shopping cart & it's no probs... But take a $1 can of raviolies & your arrested as a shop lifter. I wish I was either a bit more poor or a bit more rich. There's no place like home. There's no place like home. There's no place like home.......

You two rock! You should be the new click and clack for bike problems on NPR~
The old dude always makes me laugh.
He will be glad to hear that... Thanks

Best video I’ve seen all day. Definitely gonna get this basket over a rack.
Nah that’s stupid ASF

I love Wald Baskets,... and I really like Mr. Pump in this video... I miss him in your live show... He added a lot to the videos.
Wondering if this basket model can be also installed with front panniers?
You guys are hilarious. I just ordered the Wald 1372 (15" x 10" x 5") looking forward to it.
yea, yea i had one in 1962 . Didnt know they still made them . Had a pair of saddle baskets in the rear on a two speed internal geared Schwinn
Considering how many bikes now have front suspension, there should be more racks made that DO accomodate forks that can bounce up and down.
Another classic Bikeman.
I want one for my pick up truck ,one for my bed room, remote controls.
I use old produce storage bins that you put lettuce in in the bottom of fridge.on back of bike
That would be perfect for my trips to the laundry mat. Me and Wheels (my mountain bike) would be rolling. I'd tie that joker on my bike's rear carrier rack.
Good vid! That's a hell of a basket!
Loving this basket!
When does the new season start on youtube bikeman?
Is this not the newest season right about nowish? ;) How much newer can it get, fine Sir?
Where and how can I order this giant basket?

+dudelivestrong added bonus of your eggs staying intact on a bumpy trail.
I load mine with postholes, but when I get to the job site they all went through the bottom of the basket!

I can hear it now, Hey Preston, that's a nice basket you've got that piece of crap bicycle bolted to...
Now that I've got it installed on my Raleigh sports, how does it work on my forks, when they flex!????
No flex?
This guy is really funny. I'm sad I'm just finding him now
that would be a dream basket for my Kona Africa bike.
bikeman - can you do a video on how to install the sunlite cross inline brake levers on a vintage 10 speed ?
Think it will fit on a Surly Big Dummy? Great review, very funny and informative!
Is there a cover for it so you can ride your dogs in it?
have one well built but it is huge and very heavy,
if you put ten lbs in it, it screw up steering geometry,
think about it do you really need this large a basket,
next time am getting a smaller basket
...what a lovely man. Beautiful eyes and smile. Must be your Dad?
Looks like the basket on my Schwinn Meridian.
The rear basket? Nah that’s even bigger. Unless you guy a third party additional basket for the front too.
This basket wouldnt work would road handle bars i take it?

Wouldn't your own body weight counter that?
yes until you hit a bump with the front wheel

Gromitdog1 when people see you with a milk crate they make the same assumptions they do when they see you with a shopping cart.
SOOOOOO, YOU NEVER ACTUALLY PUT THE BASKET TOGETHER.
Thank you so much. this helped me alot!:)
Hope it fits my Cannondale
I can carry spare bike motors in this no problem :P
Tenspeed TheBikeHanger Good point Bro!!!

no new videos?
You'd need really wide bars for extra leverage.
No suspension.
Thanks!
