He was using custom molded In Ear Monitors, which block virtually all stage volume out. So that is an out and out lie. At his age, you cannot drink alcohol, even a little while pushing your voice, it dries out the vocal cords. At 65, you can't go and tour and act like you did in your 20's and expect to bounce back from that abuse. He was drunk and frustrated that his voice was shot, no one's fault but his own. The irony is, Dave and the band were trying to help him and he mistook the gesture and verbally attacked them then attacked Dave.

Perry has since apologized but it's too little too late. What a sad way to go out. I saw a lot of comments here saying that Perry should have talked to the sound engineer backstage, etc, etc. Yes, maybe so, however, people should take a second to ask themselves WHY he may have been low in the mix. Many fans have commented that during live shows this time around, Perry's performances have been bad. Sloppy, missed time cues, out of tune, forgetting lyrics, strained voice, slurring his words (possibly due to alcohol) etc. The working theory is that the band mates and the people in charge of running the shows turned Perry down a bit in the mix to help mask his bad performances while everyone else had to perform at their absolute a-game. I certainly can't rule out Perry's wife or any of his friends getting in his ear about the whole thing, making him angrier, and if so, that's a crappy thing to do. But Perry is an adult who should be old enough to know better than to handle things this way. It's nice that he said he takes full responsibility and all, but clearly the rest of the band has had enough now that all of the remaining dates are cancelled. Again, sad way to go out.

I haven't seen much footage from the rest of that particular concert, but I expect the sound crew are exceptional at their jobs and every little thing they do is intentional and professional.
Perry also is a professional, and it's very easy to focus on the bad gigs but he has spent tens of thousands of hours on stage in his life. He probably doesn't remember most of it, which explains how he manages to fuck up this badly.

It is SAD. The 90s material will always be in my heart, I didn't care about the last two releases. But I would hate to see it end like this. After 40 fkn years, find a way to be brothers. I do think this is 99% Perry's fault (inverse pun not intended). But... I can't process this. Guess I am blessed to not yet have to deal with such an unstable person.
I recall around the time of Song Yet to Be Sung, he spoke of friends advising "find a way to heal", which I think prompted him to embrace his religious roots. Agnostic, myself. But dayum, Perry. Run back to religion if that's what it will take. The band cares about you. Do you care about yourself?

Perry could have and should have communicated his issue with sound folks, not taken it out on Dave. Unfortunately, it looks like the frustration may have been magnified by wine consumption and not just a volume problem. Perry is a fiery dude under the best of circumstances.
However, Perry does seem to be having issues with his voice. He hasn’t been able to hit those high notes for a long time often times performing crooner style vocals on many songs. You can hear him struggle to sing in practically any performance in recent years. Those high notes are inhuman from a vocal standpoint.
Furthermore, even though Perry can’t sing like Perry at his height of power, no one else can either. His voice was one of the most unique in modern music.
I hope Perry gets whatever help he needs. These guys will survive and honestly, Jane’s had an historic run! No shame in that body of work.
    Well done video here!

uh, no band plays any song the same way live ... what gives ?? that's why there's studio recording. I appreciate that you were able to find video prior to Perry's chest punching Navarro ... ... I believe the arm tap by Navarro really struck Perry's ego as Navarro may have been interpreted by Perry as a sign of belittling, or demeaning Perry (and if there are tensions back stage those emotions will be amplified by this ego assault). This is why rehearsals are important and according to the band Perry is being a divo, or diva (depending on what he's wearing 🥁 [bah-dum ... psht]). Good work on gettting an interview with Etty she's an artist herself and it was amazing for her to sit down and have a talk with you. She's working PR (publis relations) for Perry now as we speak. I'm hopeful that Jane's will come back again after a much needed break for perry, if he gets sober and treatment. They were much more volatile in the 90s when they were all junked out. Perry apologized to his bandmates on IG, and hopefully he did so in real life esp to dave. Perry has drank bottles of wine at each show for the past 30 years and has mostly been fine, so it's surprising that it escalated so quickly all of a sudden, but father time always wins. He can't pretend he's a 30 year old rockstar anymore. It's still confusing why he got so mad at dave. In one of the videos for mountain song at nyc, perry sings over one of dave's solos, so i think that's why dave was being more proactive during that song to let perry know since that song is repetitive. During the boston show when they were playing mountain song, dave went up to eric and said something, probably about perry getting lost in that song, and perry seemed annoyed that they were talking about him and started singing aggressively at dave. Dave and eric looked annoyed/concerned/nervous about perry. Also, for everyone saying eric took cheap shots at perry, that's just etty's version of the story. She wasn't there on stage. It seems to me like eric was trying to grab the mic outta perry's hand so he doesn't hit anyone with it.

i never saw Dave get mad.. only Perry and he was aggressive and became violent as well.. Dave only appeared to be very naturally concerned but he showed no real anger that i could see ?

Well, there’s history there-on this tour and going way back. But your observations are correct watching these performances.

Perry is the oldest. It’s clear he’s getting agitated with feeling like they’re babying him. All people go through this when they become senior citizens, and still want to be independent. Alcohol just fueled the fire. Goodnight….until Eric and Dave get Deconstruction back together.

Dave N. is 57. He's no baby. If he worked a regular job, most would consider him a senior citizen. Plus he has the money to sustain a youthful look. 8 years difference is not much after 50, even less after 55 in my opinion. My ex is 6 years older, but he's in better shape than me. People think bc I need aide in walking that I'm older. I'm 59. My ex is 65 .

@@zaragardner I didn’t mean Perry is like that. Just that he might think they’re treating him that way. The fact that Dave is close too probably makes it even more agitating for Perry.

I've loved this band for a long time.. was hoping it would work out and they'd release more new music with Eric. Guess it's not meant to be.

Like others have said , very little chance it was a stage volume issue . Eric and Dave would be using the same amp volume each night to get uniform sound . Perry has in ear monitors and could get any mix he wanted just by asking an engineer . If there were FOH issues nobody on stage would know . ANY seasoned musician knows you don't ask audience members their opinion of the FOH sound because you'll get 100 different answers depending on where they are in the venue . You want the best sound you go stand by the sound booth and hear what they are hearing . I do believe he was told that though by some front row fans and in his state of mind took it personal . He's always drank wine onstage . A standard bottle 750ml is equal to 4 strong beers . Not a lot when spread over an hour set . Any pro singer knows you have to care for your voice , especially at his age . So that part does make the wine a bit of an issue . You need rest after each show, no talking or heavy smoking etc. Certain narcotics will dry your cords out as well. Dave was staring because he wanted Perry to look at him so he could signal the solo , my guess is yes that is their usual move because the song is kind of a jam song. When players cross stage and yell in each others ears they are trying to problem solve on the fly . In this case on this tour Perry was the problem . I hope he gets right and tries again though . Sober or at least mostly sober musicians play far better than messed up ones . It's just the messed up ones can't tell how bad they sound

Good understanding of live sound. Don't overlook the fact that these rumored unhappy fans down front would have been on the rail with Dave's amps firing straight at their heads. Of course they were hearing more guitar than vocals. I don't see any aux speakers along the front edge of the stage for those folks so it could have been the case that they were getting blasted with guitar while things sounded fine further back in the room.

There are a lot of old rockers that should have given it up years ago. The movie industry can do remakes of the same old stuff because it is all fantasy.
