I lived in an 8' trailer for two years when I moved out into the woods to start building my house. There was no electricity, no running water, only a stream. This was in the early 1980s, so decades before cell phones and the internet. After my first winter washing up in the stream, sometimes with snow, I built a gravity shower from a 55 gallon steel drum laid sideways on 2 cinder blocks high by 2 blocks long. My first year going to the community college, I would get the shower set up the night before with two buckets of water siphoned in and a small bundle of kindling and sticks underneath. In the morning I would put coffee water on my Coleman stove then run out and start the fire under the drum, run back in make my cup of coffee and get back in my sleeping bag to drink my coffee. When the coffee was gone, the water in the drum was decently warm. I milled most of the lumber for that house and traded hours working at the mill for the lumber (also contributing some logs). Choosing this lifestyle is hard, full of hardships, setbacks and failures. It's important to remind ones self that this lifestyle is a conscious trade-off of paying rent or a mortgage and moving into a ready built home versus engaging in a years long struggle to do it a different way. I am truly impressed by Spencer's skills and knowledge of all kinds of tools. He is a very hardworking guy. If the entire world had as much skill as Spencer, our world would have better-built homes. I have been following everything he has done with his wife on all the projects they have posted on UA-cam. Let's not even mention the word "cursed" - the world would benefit from your skills and gifts so that we can all become skilled in those areas. Sometimes things don't go the way we want them to, but there's a reason for it. We have to move on and learn from it. So, never give up and don't use the word "cursed".
You are living your dream...not many people can say that. Life throws you some curves but you conquer and go forth. Awesome family times. So many memories for you all. Keep on trucking 😊

It sure feels like being cursed when so many things go different then what we expected.The fundamental truth is you are blessed living off grid and finding day by day solutions to make things happen. the issues you are having with the tractor happen everyday on a farm and has these issues happen your husband will learn how to fix them...the good news is your not in rush so take time to count your many blessings because you are both doing great! I’m a truck driver in the land we plug punctures on trailer tyres with glue and inner tube strips. They withstand 120 psi!! Good luck 👍🏼

We have an outdoor shower too. Love it. But… we shut it down once the temperature gets close to 40 so the pipes and the shower doesn’t break. Also, be prepared for mice to get into the hot water on demand. They build nests inside so we have to clear them out before each shower.

I also have to repeat what others saying, you are not cursed. As Forrest Gump answered when he was told that he stepped in doodoo, that doodoo happens. Well in life there are always ups and downs but we just keep on doing what we have too so we can accomplish our goals. By the way the good thing is that the tire did not deflate and you were able to level out the land and it looked overwhelmingly stupendous so all was not lost. Keeping you in my prayers that doodoo does not happen to you like it seemed to in this episode. You will be successful always even with hiccups. So until the next one be safe and prosper.

Having an inverter and battery in the shower area is just more trouble down the road from moisture and corrosion from chemicals. There are other tire repair methods, they make screw in tire plugs as well as gun puncture tire kits.
Well, we know when we live off grid things happen. It’s gonna all work out. Might be a little bit slower than plan, but it’s gonna work out in the showers. Looking really good. Just take a chill. Sit back have something to drink the beauty around you don’t let it get to you one day at a time.

You know that when you are doing anything away from town, with a tractor/equipment, things happen. For tire plugs on tractors, get some patch glue, put it on plug and in hole, let it set to tacky, put plug in. Burn off ends of plug so it melts into the tire. Welcome to farming.

Beautiful work on the shower.....love the diagonal board work, but feel the stain disguised the pattern. Liked it 'au natural' but dont know if the boards needed to be sealed with stain. Love the videos and watching your journey. Amazed at how much you've done on your own. Kudos to all of your major skills!

Please, please be careful with the kids playing on the tractor. I’m a retired Medic, and I have a couple of horror calls with children being killed when a hydraulic part moves unexpectedly. Please don’t take this as an insult, you are amazing parents. But terrible accidents happen in the blink of an eye. 😔🙏

Next time try this: Put a block of wood under your axle. Let the air out of the tire you want to plug. Plug it. After the plug sets up, reinflate the tire. What we used to have to do if our backhoe got a flat from a nail and we had to plug it. Because of that, we've gone to all tracks on everything we have now. Also, over the life of a piece of equipment, expect to pay out 10 to 20k for repairs and maintenance. Keep up the great work!
This is simply another version of ‘there’s a hole in my bucket’. This, too, shall pass you guys! While it’s frustrating, it’s also part of life. What you may not realize is that incidents like this model some wonderful things to your children that they will take on in their own struggles in life. Cheers to you and your lovely family!
