That verbal jab by Richard Pryor to Chevy was just fantastic, "I was going to ask you, why didn’t you tell Johnny you was going to take over his show?". In 1975 the New York Magazine carried an infamous article that stated “Industry sources report that network executives see in Chase ‘the first real potential successor to Johnny Carson when he gives up the Tonight Show,‘” while also noting how Saturday Night Live was bringing in 2 million more viewers than Tonight Show reruns that previously held the spot. So that quip by Richard Pryor in the moment referencing the magazine article about a year and a half after Chevy had left Saturday Night Live and was in the process of failing to live up to the hype really hit home.

2 legends sitting side by side,Richard pyror and Chevy chase, incredible! Both has done some of the greatest movies, such as Richard discussed in this brilliant interview the movie that was at that time in the makings,Blue collar and his later movies Stir crazy, Bustin loose,Some kind of hero,Superman 3 and the list goes on and on! As for the equally comic legend Chevy,Foul play ,Under the rainbow, Vacation 1 and 2,Modern problems, Caddyshack and the list goes on for him as well! They don't make great actors like this anymore!! So thankful to have experienced the iconic eras of both men!!

Not because of race or gender or any of the ridiculousness people seem to hold as important these days but because he was smart. He always knew what kind of comedy to do with a certain crowd, how to do it, when to do it and how far he could go with it. By far one of the best all around comedians of our time.

In all my life since I first saw Richard Pryor I've said he's the funniest man I've seen or heard or read. I like many comedians and some at the top of the profession. But if I can only appreciate one Richard it is.
It started when I was going through an older friends record collection. I wore that record and others out and my friend never ask it back. True friend, though eventually I did return it. I had those albums completely memorized and just thinking of them has always made me smile and laugh.
Richard Pryor is not just a funny comedian but a writer even Shakespeare would love. Tragedy and comedy were the forte of both men. 🤔
