That verbal jab by Richard Pryor to Chevy was just fantastic, "I was going to ask you, why didn’t you tell Johnny you was going to take over his show?". In 1975 the New York Magazine carried an infamous article that stated “Industry sources report that network executives see in Chase ‘the first real potential successor to Johnny Carson when he gives up the Tonight Show,‘” while also noting how Saturday Night Live was bringing in 2 million more viewers than Tonight Show reruns that previously held the spot. So that quip by Richard Pryor in the moment referencing the magazine article about a year and a half after Chevy had left Saturday Night Live and was in the process of failing to live up to the hype really hit home.

As for the equally comic legend Chevy,Foul play ,Under the rainbow, Vacation 1 and 2,Modern problems, Caddyshack and the list goes on for him as well! They don't make great actors like this anymore!!
