Thank you very much. Encouraging. I forgot to cover my seeds and the fox walked over everything. deep footprints. I feel better after your video. Another day, another go.
Thank you so much for your comment Judy and I’m so pleased you have been encouraged to have another go. Every day is a new opportunity to learn! Kind regards. Gary
It is getting to that time of year when it should be safe to plant most veg outside in the UK. I usually use the end of April as a general benchmark as this is the last predicted frost date in my area. Kind regards. Gary

Thanks, great video. I have a tray of beetroot starts not looking great, started another pot to be safe, but after watching I think I will direct sow some too. I just went through my mental list and think I have everything started or planted, first early potatoes in 2-4 weeks fingers crossed.
Thank you very much for your comment which is greatly appreciated. Yes, as I identified in the video, I find direct sowing beetroot to be much better than growing in seed trays or pots, I always have more success that way. To help to remember what to sow and plant and when, I have a free veg sowing and planting calendar which I will happily send you a copy. All of the dates in the calendar relate to zone 8 in the UK but you can edit the calendar if you are outside the UK. If you would like a free copy then send me a quick email to garyoneill65@hotmail.co.uk Kind regards. Gary
It's so refreshing and cheering to see spring and seed-sowing elsewhere in the world. Thanks a lot; it's still rather forlorn here with spring nowhere in sight for another month or two. You're making me think about growing celery. I enjoy it, but I've never tried growing it before.
Thank you so much for your comment which is always greatly appreciated. Yes, Spring or even the thought of Spring makes you think that better weather and longer days are just around the corner and before we know it we will be sowing and planting to our hearts content! Definitely give celery a try it will be well worth it. They are a little slow to start but they soon catch up. Kind regards. Gary
Thank you very much for your comment Sheila which is greatly appreciated. I pleased you enjoyed the video. I grew Kelvedon Wonder peas last year and they were really good. I think you will get a decent crop and in addition they have a great flavour. Kind regards. Gary
Great suggestions. Zone 8a Central Texas...wish we could grow brassicas in the spring. We are almost 2 weeks passed our last frost date. We are transplanting summer crops. Our temps are already in the 80s...heading for the low 90s.
Hi Valorie and thank you so much for your comment. Your climate in Texas is a good few weeks ahead of ours here in the UK. Our last frost date is a few weeks away so we are just sowing our summer crops at the moment so that they are ready to plant out in May/June. I’m always envious of warmer climates like yours, as we have to wait until June/July to get the temperatures that you are getting at present, although it is getting warmer here, on average, year on year. We have a few days of heavy rain predicted here! Kind regards. Gary
Hi Paul, thank you for your comment. Yes, celery is notoriously slow at germinating so you will need to be patient. I would estimate about 3-4 weeks before they start to show. It is well worth the wait though as celery is lovely, especially the variety I suggest in the video. Kind regards. Gary
@@foreverhopeful1 thank you very much for your comment. I’ve never tried growing celery this way, but I may give it a try in the future. My celery seed have just germinated so it is looking good for this year! Kind regards. Gary
Thanks for your reply Garry 😊 I just thought if anyone’s buying celery from shop then it’s an excellent way of getting more for your money.. buy one get one free 😁who doesn’t appreciate that 😁🪴
Thanks again for your advice I would’ve planted all my seeds at once so thanks for making that mistake so I don’t have to, I’m perfectly capable of making my own 😊
Really helpful, thankyou. This is my first growing season with a greenhouse, so you've given me ideas. I have broccoli raab growing well, also a few cabbage and cauli. Celeriac is proving a challenge, 1 out of 6 so far! I'm in Cumbria uk.
Hi Jen and thank you for your comment. I’m really pleased you enjoyed the video and that it has given you a few ideas. You are growing some great veg do keep up the good work. I find celery and celeriac seeds take a little longer to germinate than other veg do it can be a little hit and miss. My wife and I love Cumbria and visit the Lake District at least once a year. You live in a beautiful part of the world. Kind regards. Gary
Hi Kevin and thank you for your comment. Peas are a great early crop and one that produces a good harvest all the way through the growing season. What variety are you growing? Kind regards. Gary
@The Allotment Garden and Kitchen meteor sown and I will sow again in the autumn. I have Hurst green shaft for the summer and sugar snap pea delim as well. Hurst Green Shaft is the first time that I have grown them an allotmenteer gave me a taster last year. I normally successional sow an early variety all season. My wife could live off beans carrots and peas for every meal 365 days a year. I have had seven successional sowings one year and had fresh peas all summer for her
@@KPKENNEDY thank you for your response Kevin. I’ve grown meteor before and been impressed with them. As stated in the video I’m growing Hurst Green Shaft for the first time so I will see how they go. I have regular succession planting of beans, carrots and peas as well, also lettuce, spring onions and beetroot which we also use all of the time. I’ve literally just come in from the potting shed having sown my first real batch of seeds, although I have already started tomatoes, peppers and onions and they are all doing great. Kind regards. Tidy job Gary. Wish me luck I’m trying celery this year I love it. Sowed indoors two weeks ago still no sign of germination 🥴👍
I'm not Gary, but good luck! I've never tried celery because it sounds needy and difficult.

Just a quick note to say celery is incredibly easy to grow from shop bought stems if planted in soil 😊
