As a tall slim guy, it can be tough to find a great fitting slim shirt without going custom. In the video I compare each of the fit options that Charles Tyrwhitt offers dress shirts in Classic fit, Slim fit, Extra Slim fit, or Super Slim fit. Using my standard neck and sleeve size I compare all four of them to show you how they might look on you. Happy to answer questions below and look forward to your feedback!

That super slim has crazy moire on my screen.
me too
Yup
It’s because of the pattern on the shirt lol
@@queensz350and it's awesome
Glad you said TM Lewin, they have a similar fit as well! Looking forward to here which you like more
Helpful comparison video. Was in one of their stores in Dublin last summer. Friendly, knowledgeable sales staff.
When it comes to dress shirt review and more stuffs..this guy is my man!
Great review of the various fits. What a huge difference the subtle differences in fit make. 👍
Nice comparison! Super helpful. I’m like 7” shorter and 10 lbs heavier than you, but even then, seeing the gradations among all of them helps me narrow down which fits I should try 👌🏼
Great review. Everything I needed to know about their sizes. Thanks for the vid!
Another great video John keep up the good work
I’ve been on the CT shirt train for years, but I’ll be the first to admit I hopped off when I found the extra slim was just not that much slimmer than the standard slim fit. This super slim may bring me back in.
Thank you so much. Very informative! I was about to order 4 extra-slim shirts. But after watching your video, I've changed my mind to super-slim.
Are you from Hong Kong or China?
Very informative. I’ve been wanted to try this brand, but wasn’t sure what fit to try. Keep the videos coming for us tall skinny guys!
Excellent informative video. Exactly the info I was looking for!!
Good-looking-out for us slim bruvs. Cheers.
Well done! Very nice, informative, and quickly to the point. Thanks!
I'm from the UK, and Extra Slim Fit works for me perfectly. I'm not super skinny or anything but I got a Medium muscle build (I'm not trying to show off) and Extra Slim Fit works perfectly. I really love Charles Trywhitt I buy almost all my formal wear from there. Quality is amazing. Highly recommended them.
Looking forward to the TM Lewin
A good tailor is key. I went from 77 kg to 70 kg in 3 years and many shirts became more baggy. I went to a great tailor who adjusted my shirts and for 20 euro she made them fit perfect again🙂.
I’ve been a fan of CT for quite awhile.
Prefer their shirts over those from Paul Fredrick or any of the dept store brands.
The classic fit works well for me. Sometimes have them tapered just a little, as they are generous with the fabric.
For any men who are not of the “tall and slim” body shape, give them a try. I’ve never been disappointed with them, and have a few I’ve been wearing over a dozen times per year for several years now.
For me, they’ve proven themselves very well.
Thank you for posting this vid. I am 6'4, 175 and this is exactly what I needed.
The great thing about CT is that when you start off you can easily order multiple shirts in different fits in the confidence that their returns policy is very straightforward.
I have a somewhat atypical build in that I am fairly tall (6’1”), have a slim neck (15 1/2”), quite a wide chest and shoulders and long arms. CT’s slim fit in a 15 1/2 neck and 89” arms is perfect for me out of the wrapping but after a few washes the Classic fit is more comfortable accomodating in the chest.
My exact measurements almost! I’m pleased with their cuts
I randomly watched this video, because i looked into ct stuff. Took me about 2 seconds to recognize the Poster. Nice one.
The best deal from CT is they sometimes do 3 for $100 + a free tie + free shipping. That is a REALLY solid deal. Once you know your size the shirts are solid and their ties are also excellent. Not the GOAT but still for that deal its a go
CT is very popular with guys in the NY finance community who need to make a good impression every day in their highly competitive offices.
The Mensch I usually go to them for my oxford shirts because of the price. I buy from propercloth for my dress shirts. Thomas Mason is my friend. I use the savings for casual to splurge on the dress.
that seems like a good move if it suits your lifestyle and needs. truthfully i cant ever justifying spending so much on white dress shirts because it is physcially impossible to keep the collars from yellowing so i know i cant expect them to last more than 1 year+
On the plus side, as long as the arm holes are ok, darts work wonders.
I do taper shirts often with french seams. The armholes become smaller since I'm making a new seam by taking it in from the sides, but it's obviously not the same as if it was originally cut smaller, so there is a bit of pulling on the the back and chest. It's not noticeable with a jacket on though
A great collection of shirts can't go wrong with any even looking so big, they rally are awesome, will have to do my shopping later, I buy all my clothes from Zara
I original got a slim and one extra slim. The extra slim fit almost perfectly except the arms. The Slim fit for me was extremely baggy. I paid 29 each.
I got a slim and even on my build (a bit chunky) the arms and chest was a bit baggy.
Useful video. I have always bought their extra slim but will give the super slim a try, being a thin guy
The super slim looks great on you!!!
Thank you for explaining. i recently lost a lot of weigh and wasn't sure what to buy as slim version had never been an option for me before.
Very helpful video, thank you!
TM Lewin are my go to shirts. They often have amazing deals so I can stock up. Looking forward to your comments. Hawkes and Curtis are really nice as well.
Such a big problem for me also!! Thanks for the video!
Glad to help Mario!
This video saved me time. Thank you
Really helpful man. Thanks.
I always wanted to try them out but was skeptical. This review helped and I’ll probably consider now. Thanks 👍🏻
that super slim looks great on you! once you do a lot of these, measure shirt sizes accors various makers for same "fit". these labels have no more meaning, often slim fit is the second fit in line (after classic which is fancy word for balloon)
Great video. Helped alot
thanks, this helps a lot !
I’m curious about your poster. Very interesting!
I love the classic fit.
great video thank you, Im 6 foot tall and Im a bit overweight the extra slim is perfect for me
I'd be helpful if you mentioned your chest and waist measurements and compared that to the sizing chart for Slim, Extra Slim, and Super Slim. As per the sizing chart (dress shirt for 15.5 neck) the actual shirt chest measurement for Slim is 44" and both Extra Slim and Super Slim are 41.5". So your stated observation of minimal CHEST difference between Slim and Extra Slim contradicts the size chart and you should have not noticed any difference in CHEST from Extra Slim to Super Slim.
Can you measure the shirts to see if they are in fact 44" and 41.5"?
Charles Tyrwhitt is a great place to start if you’re just starting to build your wardrobe. They also have a great range of styles, fabrics and sizing. Graduate to Harvie & Hudson when you can afford it.
I always order 16-35 in extra slim and the fit is very consistent regardless of the fabric.
Same. I’m 17 -35
Great review!! I will be checking out the DC store soon :-)
I Know you've tried Spier and Mackay before and seemed to like okay, they now have different sleeve sizes also! With your extreme build it may still be too billowy though, you would know better. I'm 6'2 and 205 lbs and their slim fit is slim but not skin tight for me and the quality is very high, especially for the $35 each price, if you buy 3. That said, you should totally do the custom shirts. A lot are $60 a shirt if you buy three but you can play with every single detail and of course measurements! I'm working on some extra long collar point Button down and unfused spreads as well as tall club collar with pinpoint holes for collar bar!
Thanks for doing this video! I've been wondering what the super slim fit like. You have done many videos reviewing shoes around $200 (Beckett Simonon, John Doe, Jack Erwin, Meermin, etc...) I would like to see a video ranking them worst to best. They all seem so similar I don't know which to try.
Yes certainly. Planning to include others in that range, Suitsupply, Taft undandy etc. Working on that
Awesome. Looking forward to it.
I tried CT's extra slim fit in several sizes and it was always too baggy and slightly uncomfortable in the arms... Was excited for "super slim fit" but that was to tight in the chest and my elbow was about to rip through the sleeves. It's sad because the quality and styling is waaay better than tm lewin which I tried and will never be purchasing again. Cheap MTM is . I'm 6'0 155.
Also their exchange/return policy and customer service is phenomenal. I made a zillion exchanges/returns and the shipping was always quick and hassle free. Website layout is nice too.
Great shirts.
I'm a big fan of the CT brand but I do agree with you they're a bit coy on the arbitrary pricing of their shirts.
what was that at the very very end lol? very informative btw. definitely will consider charles tyrwhitt
thanks for the comparison. i thought i bought wrong size. mine is tokyo slim, it is really tight.
Another really good video. I like it! I am not the biggest fan of CT shirts. The sleeves tend to be baggy to me, even on their super slim fit
Wow, time to go custom😉
Thanks you so......... ............... .............. ............much
Good vid!
I find the Classic Fit works great except the waist section is just too billowy! Tried same (L) size in Slim Fit and was too tight across the chest. Now wondering if XL in slim fit might be a better fit than L in Classic?
I need the super slim😀 thanks for the info buddy
Super extra mega slim! Haha
I actually like that checkered shirt at the beginning of the video the best...
CT shirts get alot of grief, however, the collar and French Cuff combination on the dress poplin shirts are a solid buy for a workday dress shirt
Why do they get a lot of Grief?
same height and weight, thanks so much for this!
Absolutely Chis! Here to serve
Little confused by this video. In a previous review you said that you wouldn’t recommend them and felt there were better shirts at a similar price point. Have they improved quality since?
Na Na I thought exactly the same. Me personally as a smaller 5‘10 and more athletically build guy have been a huge fan of the shirts as they had options which I didn’t need to retailor in the end.
Shirts last me with everyday use since almost 2 years and I can’t complain.
Metal collar strips make a difference too I fell like.
Hey Kavalier. Any chance we'll see some more denim brand reviews in the near future? Keep up the great work and videos.
Yes certainly
Naked and Famous.... Check them out. They import their denim from Japan, and make the jeans in Montreal. You get the benefits of Japanese denim looms, and North American labour / design. Probably cuts the cost of Japanese denim in half.
If I wanted to buy a shirt that fit as well as the super slim fit, would you recommend CT or is there another brand you think is better?
If you go to Jermyn Street in London, the shirt makers cut the cloth to make a slim fit shirt.
Hey! Nice video. Where did you get your trousers from? Thanks!
I have a CT shirt I got is nice, but I think my chest or shoulders are too broad for their shirts. Which is odd when I wear different brands with similar sizes. My CT shirt is tight across the chest and has a slight pull when my shoulders are resting or if I have them back slightly.
My biggest problem with these shirts is that the sleeve cuffs are just so big on me. I can easily slip my hands in and out of the cuff without unbuttoning it.
You shouldn't be paying out of the $30 range for these! They go on sale 3 for $99 a ton
super slim pattern made my eyes explode lol
Curious to what the measurements would have been for chest / pit to pit just to see the variance among the 4 cuts
Yes I should have done that. Will make sure I have on future videos like this
CTShirts are based in my country not had chance to order anything but will have a look now, did you try my Moss Bross code/link I gave you about 2 months ago I ordered some shirts from them& recommended you, I own their suits, very expensive but have had it for years
You advised against Charles Tyrwhitt shirts in a prior video. What's your most recent view of the brand? Thanks.
1:44 'Steam them a little bit', since you are encouraging me to buy higher quality shirts, can you do a video on how to care for them?
I don't dry-clean, and I recently bought a steamer, but what works for you?
P.s.
I'm thin too, and I hate looking like a lollipop in a classic shirt lol.
Wearing high-waisted trousers may help with the bunching.
Where did you buy the shirt at the beginning of the video
Hey man I actually had recently bought 3 CT shirts myself. I’m about 6’2 235 pound guy. More of a husky build and I do have broad shoulders. I can’t make up my mind whether I want the classic fit or slim fit for these shirts. 2 of them are classic but I feel it’s a little to baggy and the 3rd shirt is slim fit. Feels alright to me but I suppose if decide to bulk up and add more muscle then classic fit would be the way to go
Do the slimmer models of the shirts have tighter sleeves? I find the sleeves rather big.
Haha just had to get out of bed to try on my CT shirt. It's extra slim, which I forgot and I didn't realize because there's no way it it's proper fit extra slim. Guess I'll be trying the super, thanks. But not only was my extra not very slim but the collar was small (it was 16 normally wear a half lower) and the sleeves were short, at 35 it was a tad short and that's not possible for me as I typically but 34-35. I think I sized up to make up for the extra slim. What's steamer do you use?
It's a con-air standup unit that I saw my tailor using, had it for years!
One problem with your trousers are the very low rise. I do not know where your belly button is, but imagine a few inches up from your waistband. High rise trousers makes a huge difference regarding shirt fit. When I changed to high rise trousers (waistband covers belly button or higher) many of my shirts became instantly more flattering since the waistband suppressed my natural waist and not my hips or just above. So take that into consideration too when buying shirts.
I’m a 38 on chest loose measurement 36 if I pull the measuring tape … the Estra slim 14.5 neck with 33 sleeves fits fine except for the neck …
I’m 140 5’9
I will be trading my shirts for a 15 neck given that I really like these shirts and in case I gain weight I really want to keep wearing them
Although you are much taller, it would be great if you could give tips and pointers for average height and short guys. As a 5'9 guy who loves your channel and wants to look sharp, this would be greatly appreciated!
Have you watched modest man?
At 5'9" you just squeezed in the "avg" height category 5'9" - 6'2". You are not short my friend.
Was there different in length on the 4?
Hello,your mensurations ? thank's for help
I think those shirts looked good untucked as well as tucked in.
Better untucked. Even at a formal event an untucked shirt can look great as long as it's shorter than your jacket.
Anyone who knows a brand for V-shape bodies? Ive always got way too much fabric around the waist, but slim fit shirts are too tight in the chest and too slim on the shoulders. Tailorring works great, but this costs extra money with every shirt without better quality. Does anyone have a suggestion?
sale on now`
Your my exact size and weight this is a good reference vid
Hello. I live in Nebraska. I only eat hard boiled eggs and rhubarb. people avoid me because they say I smell. That's rude isn't it? Where do you live? can I come over to stay with you for a few days? I am 64 years old.
"I'm not looking for a shirt that's painted on" 😂😂
*a framed poster of breakfast
There’s method to their pricing policy. They don’t want you to think you’re getting a cheap shirt, rather a good shirt at a bargain price. However, since they are based in the UK, they have to contend with UK consumer law. This means if they want to say a shirt is half-price, they must have sold the item at the higher price for at least 28 days. You’ll therefore notice that right after their sales (usually between June and July and December and January), the prices shown are high (although they can still offer bulk discounts). So don’t buy in August, September, February and March, unless you have a discount code or take advantage of a bulk discount.
How do you find the stance of the 2nd button? Too high?
I love their material (Egyptian cotton) but I find their collars to be too short and more suitable for slim/smaller men
Have four extra slim CT shirts and they really aren’t that slim. But the first one I got fits markedly tighter than the others, it’s like they changed the fit somewhere down the line.
Also I feel that darts in the back are a bit strange, as I have had better slimmer fitting shirts that do so without the darts.
These shirts are so beautiful, they look quite big on you except the last one looked alright, I'm guessing if yo tuck all your shirts in they wouldn't look so big
I hate the bunching around the waist even when I get slim fit ... am I just buying the wrong brand ? Usually Calvin klein
What sleeve length did you get? 35?
waiting for my first CT shirt order and stumbled across your video. well done. IMO the extra slim looked best on you, not the super slim. when i called CT they told me the slim is more like 'regular' the classic is essentially for fat guys. i'm 6 5, 210 and bought 2 slim, 1 extra slim. curious to see how it goes.
How’d it go? I’m about the same size. 42XL, 6’5 210, 17 36/37 shirt. Thinking super slim but think I may rip an armhole out
CT make the best Oxford shirts
Were the shirts you sampled in this video wrinkle-free or at least resistant to wrinkles?
Yes wrinkle resistant
when this manufactures understand that we don need all this excess fabric in waist but still are chest are not that small. When you buy slimmer shirt in (put the name of brand you choose) you always need sacrifice the chest comfort .
Hey! I was wondering if you still shop at everlane?
Yes all the time! Just had some stuff delivered last week
What are your pants brand? in this vid?
I only wished I had your problem, Great shirts. Im a regular fit.
Slim and Extra Slim looked the best, something a fashion conscious adult would wear without looking trendy and uncomfortable.
