Happy New Year to y’all as well. Potato soup is my favorite so I’ll try this recipe. Honestly, I’ve never cooked with leeks but If it’s a key ingredient I’ll certainly try it.
Your title caught my eye. Years ago (1980s), Charleston had a La Madeleine downtown near the market which was a fancy French restaurant. They had a fire, and I worked for the company that restored it. I still have and daily use the SS cutlery from there that we salvaged (they got new ones of course). I didn't realize there was a chain with the same name. Happy New Year to you and your family! I love potato soup.
Happy New Year to you and the entire family. May God richly bless ya'll in the new year! I love potato soup, especially poured over corn bread. I remember when my Granny would fix it and her and Grandaddy would crumble up corn bread in the bottom of the bowl and pour the potato soup over it. My child's mind thought that was gross. Now I know that it is awesome!!
You might like one of my potato soup recipes. I start with the Basic Potato Soup recipe and after the Basic Recipe is done I open a can of whole kernel corn drain the liquid ( If I do this ahead of time , I use the liquid in the Basic recipe. Also with the next can ... ) and a can of mushrooms stems and pieces. I also add some sliced or wide cut onion at this point , for my son who likes onions, and let it simmer until the onions are soft. I kinda consider myself a “ Kitchen Witch” , so I add spices to taste . ( The spices I use are salt, pepper, garlic, lemon juice and or zest, French Tarragon, Thyme , Fennel and Dill Weed . ) 👍👍🔥💜🦁✨🌈✝️ 12:20
We live in Forney, east of Dallas, and can say we LOVE La Madeleine’s! Try their Croissants for a special treat - oh so good! Their soup and sandwiches make a great lunch! Been a while since we’ve been there, but it’s a fave, for sure! Happy New Year, Steve!
Hi Col. Stephen! This looks yummy! I wonder if it would do well in the crockpot- After cooking bacon separately? Another fun leeks recipe: slice into halves, 5" long, steam until soft, top with a mix of mayo & grated parm cheese, top with more parm cheese, into oven 350* until brown on top - Yum! May Our LORD JESUS bless and guide you & your family in the coming year, in His Love, JJ & Miss Ruthie😊🐕🦺🐾🙏✝️💕🇺🇸
Grew up In Dallas and live 35 miles out now. Always love their tomato basil soup but I’ll try the potato next time I’m there. I will try this recipe. Thanks!
Hi and Happy New Year from DALLAS. La Madeleine has been around for quite some time. I love the potato soup, but I make my own. Next time you go try their Tomato Bisque. It’s Really Good, Creamy and Thick. My favorite item is their pastry section for the fresh fruit tart…yum. Good job on the potato soup Stephen but I do like a little bit more potato in the soup, lol. Happy New Year 2025 to you and your family! 🎉
HAPPY NEW YEAR STEVE.., RECIPE LOOKS YUMMY. THANK YOU FOR A YEAR OF RECIPES AND SHOWING ALL YOUR TRAVELS I SURE ENJOYED IT ALL. MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND ALL YOUR FAMILY AND MAY YOU HAV A SAFE NEW YEAR.. LOVE FROM KANSAS🥰
Thank you 🙏 Steven and Mrs. Ritter for the New Potato Soup recipe. I have always enjoyed making and eating potato soup from the original Basic recipe to conjuring up additions and making up new recipes of my own. This looks like an interesting idea and I think that I may try it ( sans the salt unless I relocate to a desert 🌵 , 🐫 🐪 area . ) . I have never had a recipe that called for Leeks and have never had them. Are they similar to the Green onions? 👍👍🙏🔥💜🦁✨🌈✝️ 12:20
I think leeks are a little milder than onions but more flavorful than shallots. The whole house smelled great while I cooked them! Give them a try and let me know what you think.
@ Thank you for the information , I appreciate it. I do like the flavor of shallots. Perhaps I will give this recipe a try. ( Today, I made a New Recipe and this is the second time I have made it. It is better than the first time I tried it. My son has a strong dislike for eating Kale 🥬 in a salad so, I attempted cooking it. It appealed to the both of us. Today, the total cooking time was about 40 minutes. I used 2 pots ; 1 small pot that contained 2 cut up potatoes 🥔 and 2 cut up carrots 🥕 , boiled until easily pierced with a knife or fork. And in a larger pot I filled with “ Tuscan Kale ( nutty and sweet flavor) and filled with water to cover on High heat . When the Carrots and potatoes were ready I drained the water and added to the Larger pot. I also added some canned, drained mushrooms 🍄 ( amnt. is your preference) and half an onion quartered. In a jar , I put a few Tablespoons of Cornstarch, oil, salt, pepper , 1 large or 2 small chicken bouillon cube(s) and added small amounts of hot water water from the large pot and whisked till smooth. I added some Heavy whipping cream ( milk will do but this makes a creamy goodness) and whisked it in to blend ; then I added it to the large pot. I considered it done after a good stir with my small ladle . ( I enjoy my herbs and spices so, in my bowl I topped it with Mrs. Dash table blend , pink salt, pepper, turmeric, minced garlic and Mrs. Dash original blend ( I like the bit of lemon in it) . You’re welcome to try it if you like. Either way, it is a discovery that I thought I would share. 👍👍🙏🔥💜🦁✨🌈✝️
I love potato soup I put ham and wax beans in mine potatoes celery, onion, low sodium chicken broth and hash brown potatoes. No need to peel potatoes. ❤
You're going a hundred miles a hour, or should I say second. 🤔 It's time for you to slow down, or should I say, come down from the skies. You have been on my mind all week. Every time I watched the news with all the issues in and around the skies, I prayed for you and your boys. God's blessings for you and your family ❤
I've slowed down quite a bit. Now that the holidays are over, the flying is getting back to normal as well. I appreciate the concern and will pay more attention to my health...it's one of my resolutions!
How long has those potatoes & onions been sitting out? Potatoes are browning and the onions are wilting not a very good presentation for a first time viewer 🧐
I did notice the potatoes. Shooting these videos takes a little longer than if I was just cooking for myself. These videos have always been a "real" cooking experience. No reshoots are retakes. You see warts and all! LOL!
I just made potato soup this morning! No kidding!
My favorite soup.
This is a wonderful recipe. I’ll be making this very soon…looks delicious! Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy and Healthy New Year! 🐾🙏🏽🌺🙏🏽
Your soup looks delicious. Those All-Clad pots are really great too. MMMMMMM. I love potato soup. I gotta go watch Phyllis' version now.
Potato soup- the second thing I learned to cook. Course our version was a little less fancy. This looks yummy will definitely try!
Let me know what you think when you do!

That is invalid soup. Good chefs say only use fresh thyme. Good effort though. Wonder what Phyllis would say. 😋
I did use fresh thyme. Well...it wasn't dried. I guess I didn't cut it off of a thyme plant.

I would process the leeks into small pieces
