This is real footage from Kosovo. The Army and James went there as peace keepers. If you are interested to get to know James better and learn more about his time in the Kosovo - Serbia War in 1999 you will appreciate the small series that was made about James called '' the return to Kosovo '' its 4 episodes. Fun fact the lyrics '' Fathers lost without a trace '' is about a guy he knows and he is his tour guide in the series. He found his father 5 years later through genetic testing (or something like that ). As an Albanian I love seeing reactions to James Blunt and I enjoyed yours a lot thank you.😊

James was an officer in the British army during the Kosovan war and most of the footage is from him

Oh wow, I can't picture him as a military man but hey. Glad he took inspiration to make this song.

@@GeorgeTheCloud He was a captain in a cavalry regiment in a reconnaisance role, deployed to Kosovo as part of the NATO peacekeeping force. He was leading 30,000 NATO troops. An order came through from General Wesley Clarke the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO in Europe, who ordered James Blount to overrun the 200 Russian peacekeepers who had occupied the airport at Pristina which would have entailed a pitched battle with the killing of the Russian peacekeepers and loss of some of their own troops. He did not follow the order and he was then backed up by General Sir Mike Jackson, who said they should on no account do so as he was not going to have his soldiers be responsible for starting WW3. Instead he ordered the soldiers to surround the airport, after some time the Russian peacekeepers having run out of water and provisions came to an agreement with NATO, they would share the airport with NATO peacekeepers and the latter shared their provisions with the Russian peacekeepers. No WW3 ensued and Russia and NATO peacekeepers co-existed, after all a genocide is bad enough without the peacekeepers making it worse.
Thank God one of the Generals had some common sense it has become somewhat of .a rarity these days, particularly with the military top brass and political leadership.

He was a Lieutenant, later Captain in the "Blues & Royals" regiment, one of two regiments of the Household Cavalry. When they're not on ceremonial duties as part of the Kings Guard, they perform the reconnaissance role in Scimitar light tanks. He told a story in an interview, that during this deployment he took an acoustic guitar with him, and as there's very little room in a Scimitar, his crew gave him an ultimatum, either his guitar or him were being strapped to the outside of it!

James does have a lot of sad songs which he makes jokes about. But they hit harder because he puts all his emotions into them. I believe the video footage was filmed by James. This song is very sad but needs to be played so we don't forget those who are suffering in and from the aftermath of war.
If you want some more up lifting tracks try The Greatest or Bonfire Heart.

Humanity is dead we will find the same atrocities after Ukraine war where we all turned away.

Hard to believe the Ukraine situation is happening in 2024 and yet we still can't do much about it.

    • @JM-dm3qk

We will not find the same atrocities after the war in Ukraine they were there before. If you watch the You Tube video Toys for Poroshenko War in Ukraine from 2015. It shows the people in eastern Ukraine, Donbass who were shelled by the Ukraine military since 2014, with NATO weapons, it shows the heartbreaking sight of those children, watching it seared them into my brain.
We are told the War in Ukraine started when Russia invaded without provocation but when you watch the video above you realize it didn't because the children in Donbass were being killed since 2014. There is a memorial to them in Lugansk, it was covered in stuffed toys and teddies. The video mentioned is from 2015.
There was another video I saw, which showed some of the former Ukrainian soldiers who were taken to the monument of the children killed in Lugansk, Donbass, eastern Ukraine, and forced to kneel at its base. The lady told them that this was the result of their actions and people like them, these children in Donbass, she said they had considered themselves Ukrainian, that they had considered them their countrymen, but no longer. She said that if the parents of those children were here they would never leave this place.
The expression on the young girls face in the video, as she said her father and mother were on the ground, that she was afraid to look at them. That expression, there are no words, for the depths of that emotion, on her face, in her eyes, utterly soul wrenching.

James is British. He does not have an accent. Anyone outside Britain has an accent. We speak English as do most of the world.
