That moment when you realize that most of the comments are saying there's gonna be a shitstorm but there actually isn't and people are being respectful
After the Rage I mean, you're basically saying "Because Atheists are better than religious people, and they're too stupid and triggered to watch this video." Not very mature mate.
It’s been a year or two since I made this comment originally and I’ve gotten notifications about it every few weeks and I’ve been meaning to update this and That is what I am going to do now. I am a changed person and I have realised that this was a very uneducated, hypocritical, and flat out dumb comment to make. I have learned that my generalisation was incorrect and looking back at my comments and replies from then makes me cringe. I just wanted to update this comment because I have been meaning to for a long while. I will be keeping my original comment below so no context is lost and if someone stumbles across this comment section. If you have read this whole thing then thanks you. Original comment: It’s weird how atheists are nice and religious people are toxic.
@@kestrel.89 I don't know if that's the case for this comment section, but it certantly isn't true as a whole. There are toxic theists, but there are also toxic atheists, just as there are nice religious folk and nice atheists

@arkin medrano close minded means to believe in something and keep believing it for the rest of your life Open minded means always keep changing opinions and always keep changing beliefs and always not so sure about things because we're not capable of understanding the whole universe right now
@arkin medrano i stand by my words. Christianity was not mentioned. They could’ve meant other religions aswell, and religion in general. In fact, this rule „open minded = more knowledge“ doesn’t even only refer to religion. You can take another field such as culture as an example (eg people being close minded by judging people of another race for not doing things the way they themselves do, due to cultural differences). The comment can be applied to many topics of interest at once. Just don’t source information from a single source, and leave judgement out of the content at first. Focus more on finding and sampling information to come to conclusions that have a bigger informational backup, thus you’ll find more security in your knowledge.
I have a feeling it's gonna be one of those comment sections where everyone is saying "Lmao why is everyone so triggered?" and stuff like that when really nobody is mad here. Great video btw, coming from a Christian.
I too thoroughly enjoyed this video, I also like the fact that they made the clear statement that causation and correlation are not equal in a definition. Overall intelligence, does, however, correlate with the open-mindedness of a person. I do agree that religious people do tend to be less open-minded. Despite this, these tests were also taken in America, America doesn't represent the world as a whole. Strictly religious nations such as Texas often do not have the highest intelligence. (Texan people aren't stupid, I'm sorry if I offended anyone). As someone who is not American, I think they'd find many different conclusions if they were to take the same test in other countries.
Well, free-thinking isn't promoted in the bible, and in lots of cases it leads to atheism. While correlation doesn't necesserily mean causation, it's still noteworthy.
nope we r smarter.. putting our life's in the hands of some made up entity some drunk dude on top of a hill made up 1 day.. imagine now a days.. some dude come down a hill w some shit scribbled on a stone n said someone in the sky said we must all obey by this shit, would u follow tht? or call him what he is, some drunk idiot?
414 Drizz Gaming Not all of us are smarter than theists. My cousin is a devout Christian and he is way smarter than me, he was able to pass an examination in which I did not.
Lucentail- not really. im not speaking for all atheists of course, but its more about not getting manipulated so easily. if someone tells me „god exists, believe in god just read the bible“ i will try to argue why god makes sense or doesnt. i wont just blindly believe in something there is absolutely no proof of. and thats pretty much how atheism works.
I don't have a problem with people believing what they want, and in no way do I believe that as an atheist that I'm smarter than everyone who believes, but I do have problem with the type of people who can't except someone's beliefs and try to force theirs and saying that person is wrong
@@LordAlderaan personally it would be disrespectful. I'm a Muslim. Some might see religion as a scam of some sort. Some might see it as lie. Some might see it as something else. I just see it as a way to get people to be nice. But some people do not need religion to be nice, that's fine too

Reptoid there’s always an I don’t know when learning anything. That’s the whole reason I’m Christian. If we don’t know if god is real, and assuming he’s real, you go to hell, wouldn’t you just rather believe in him?
@@catchercat_yt3503 Pascal's wager (the argument you put forward) doesn't really make sense because you can also go to hell for believing in the wrong god. How can you think your religion is right above all others? How do you choose between the thousands of religions out there who assert that non-believers go to hell?
const4nce the answer is I don’t. There are so many misconceptions about Christianity as a whole, and that’s largely the fault of the church, specifically the Catholic Church and the Baptist sects, because they take the Bible out of context and use religion as a way to further their institution. With this in mind, there are two rules that Jesus left us (assuming he wasn’t a fraud) that the church won’t tell you. And no, one of them is not the “Golden rule”. 1. Love god 2. Treat others as I (Jesus) have treated you. With this in mind, I believe as a Christian that these rules could apply for many other religions, and won’t judge others for their own religion either, because the Bible also states that god is the final judge. Personally I’m Christian because I’ve found that many things in the Bible are historical fact, and the historical events concerning the Jewish temple that Jesus predicted actually happened. I also find that the two rules of Christianity are relatively harmless and help me to be a better person (but being honest it’s hard to follow them sometimes). I’m still not 100% sure it’s true or not, but regardless it’s been helpful to me, and if other religions are helpful to people too, then according to the Bible they can go for it, and according to me (and hopefully other Christians one day) they can go for it too.
The reason people don't like talking about religion is because theology is literally a subject without an object, and religious people tend to get upset when others point that out.
Not really. It's just atheists incorrectly perceiving the basic ideology of theology. Similar to how atheists who get upset when someone calls the big bang physically impossible, theists get upset when someone says a god is scientifically impossible.
Excuse me, but if you think about that statement long enough, you may realize that the big bang has a problem with science. Don't believe me? Then tell me why can't we replicate the big bang.
Brick Brony We can't really replicate the Roman empire yet we know it existed at one point. If you want evidence for the big bang the two main sources are the cosmic background radiation which is essentually left over energy from when the universe was much hotter and denser. The other piece of evidence is that most galaxies and stars are red shifted meaning that they are moving away from us. And a mot of them are moving away from us faster than the speed of light which shouldn't be possible unless it wasn't that they are actually moving faster than the speed of light but that the universe is actually expanding in all directions. Now you tell me does it seem reasonable to believe that if the universe is expanding now that if you were to go back in time the universe would be much closer together? I think so.
I was born a Christian and my family are religious but they haven’t forced the religion on me :) (I am still a Christian) Edit: When I wrote this comment about a year ago I meant my family didn’t force me to go to church or pray
Before watching it fully? Using happy holidays as the one example instead of atheists getting offended over people saying Christmas sets the tone for a biased and closed minded video defending one side while pretending to be objective, especially when they hinted that science contradicts Christianity, and later on they hint that religious people are the closed minded bigots with anger issues... then at the end they refer to biased statistics that use logical fallacies as "scientific findings", also I did dislike the video before watching it at all

The cross is also a widely recognized symbol of faith most will recognize regardless of country of origin. -The actual affiliation of the cup thrower is never directly specified, only that they don't like the phrase "Happy Holidays". There are a number of faiths that have inky histories of intolerance whether or not that reflects the sacred text they follow. Tylerosaurus "Later on they hint that religious people are closed-minded bigots with anger issues" I support gay marriage ,i hate feminists trying to make "The Muslim Ban" seem like it's caused by hate toward Muslims, and i am a Muslim.I don't fit into anger issue one either.
Although I know many religious people who are quite intelligent and open minded, I've met others who are just intolerant or unwilling to accept things that are different. I think the unwillingness of to accept other people, religions, ideas, etc. because of faith might make them seem less intelligent, but are just afraid of change or inclusivity (the "happy holidays" mug being a perfect example). The one teaching that all religions have in common is "treat others the way you want to be treated," and I think there are some religious folks out there who are so absorbed into other teachings, they forget that one rule. No religion is better or more important than any other and everyone needs to accept that.
I agree with both Layla and Èrpéka. I know a lot of athéist who are not intelligent enough to realise that being athéist doesn't mean they are better than religious people and that nobody holds the absolute truth. I'm an athéist myself but I don't think religious people are less intelligent than I am. they just see life differently , have different beliefs. as long as you don't try to enforce your beliefs on others you have nothing to be ashamed of.

He don't judge, he forgives. Namasté :)
Mortis Here is the definition. Agnostic atheism is a philosophical position that encompasses both atheism and agnosticism. Agnostic atheists are atheistic because they do not hold a belief in the existence of any deity and agnostic because they claim that the existence of a deity is either unknowable in principle or currently unknown in fact.
I was that kind of Christian for years. I must warn you however that you lead down a dangerous path. In my opinion, as much as I used to deny this from myself, science and religion aren't compatible. Unless you simply negate the legitimacy of science, you can't be a lover of science and a lover of a religious God.
Intelligence refers to a phenomenon that trenscends the specific cognitive skills considered. Roughly speaking, someone smart is, on average, better at 'everything' than the next person. It is the capacity for generalized problem solving, in other words. That is something very precise, not a matter of contention, although it appears that the dispersion between sets of skills increase with IQ. A smart person would be good everywhere equally, but a genius could be, say, good everywhere, except they'd be amazing at verbal skills.
+Dil's Super Crybaby Thank God, someone finally said it. I never understood the obsession towards specifically IQ, when its measurement is so narrow with respect to the broad range in variations of intellect.
Having been an atheist in dozens of atheist Facebook groups I can tell you unreasonable atheist are just as common. If you want a rational person look for a strong critical thinker.
In truth their are rotten groups in everything I'm personally Christian and...well the Catholic pedo jokes exist for a reason but I've also seen plenty of bad atheists and Christians oh also on the Internet the craziest people are normally the smallest groups
I am atheist, but I would defend the religious people in this case. I think that intelligence tests are biased to favorise scientific minded people. If the questions are related to facts that are counter intuitives, then only people who specifically studied those facts will know the answer. This is then a test of knowledge, not intelligence. There is many possible view of what is intelligence. I would define it in a way that has to include the crow, the fox, the raccoon, the octopus and a few other animals which exhibits exceptional capacity to solve new problems. That mean, any test should not rely on contrived language usage if even any language is used. On a practical point of view for human life, language is a major tool to learn and teach information. It is possible that language in itself is needed to process some complex concepts. A good attorney will manipulate information with clever language. Intelligence often imply duping some member of the same tribe/family, so it can be perceived as negative for the usual victims such as those republicains who always win by switching opinion instantaneously when they predict a gain while democrat try to stick to consistency, logic and decency... obviously sign of being a looser, a strict moral being a sign of lower intelligence.
@equalism 42 THEY ARE FRICKIN FREE TO BELIEVE WHAT THEY WANT, CHRISTIANS ARE NOT LESS INTELLIGENT THAN ATHEISTS LIKE YOU AND I. FOR ALL WE KNOW WE COULD BE WRONG MY GOD STOP INSULTING CHRISTIANS
I think Atheists are smarter because of a very simple reason Atheists question and use their logic and knowledge to decide if they belive or not, Atheists don’t just start beliving in something just because someone else belives or someone tells them to. They question and decide for themselves if they will start beliving.
Edgelord Correct that atheists decide their faiths, but many religious people decide their faiths as well. They just choose to be religious. Also, I don't think atheists could be immediately labeled as smarter nowadays, as so many are just kids who think it's edgy.
Hot Carl you’re right religious people choose their faith aswell but often religious people become religious because they were told to become religous by parents or some other alternative but otherwise you’re completly right they choose I only ment that atheist have questioned and decided if they want to belive without anyone telling them what to belive.
Vilgot Kihlberg I never believe in something just because I'm told to. I don't know if you imagine us Christian as air heads blissfully floating around with no real knowledge, but youe comment nudges towards the fact that you probably do. We believe in God because he has been proved and shown to us in a way we can't always explain. Just because I believe in something different than you does not make me an idiotic person who never listens to reason.
+Snakethrow - He is mocking the idea of the power of god. If god is so powerful, he is supposed to be able to control people's religious belief. In this case making people atheists.
but I think the whole point of (most) religions is that God gave us the free will to change our beliefs. (I could be wrong but that is what I was taught.)
it all depends on the person. I'm a religious man who is rational thinking as well as spiritual. most religious people may have a fear something so they need God to help them or leave it in God's hands. I've seen atheist who are dumb as hell and some who smart. its like saying all metalheads or rap listeners are violent. the person may have always been violent however general view is to blame metal or rap not the person and their life choices.
I always assume people like you are Agnostic Atheists but are afraid of what might happen to you if you're wrong, so you just play it safe and believe in religion but often question it on your mind. IN MY OPINION, no religious person can be rational, because you believe a snake can talk, the first woman came from a rib of a man, believe in "God" which I'm 100% you have never seen GOD other than in your own imagination. The New Testaments often contradict what "God's son" Jesus would preach about. Also, no American tribe believed in Christianity before Columbus discovered The New World, so if a Muslim community discovered the Americas before the Christians, imagine how different everything would be. Last thing, ALL BABIES ARE ATHEISTS. I promise you, if you have a child ages 1-2yrs old, you can choose what religion he/she can believe in because that child currently believes in no god.
Jose Flores I wasn't always a religious person however now I am for my reasons. A few main ones would be people having the belief that the ancient pyramids were built by aliens and various structures in the same. this completely destroys humans being smart pre science. the big bang seems like its a part of the bible if you do insert it in the bible. yes if Columbus was Muslim majority would be Muslim but we would still believe in God or Allah and Mohammad aka Christ. also I'm spiritual as well so I can't somewhat feel things that can't be explained. people attack religion so much to the point it makes it almost a excuse to attack it but they don't contribute the human brain and interactions but blame it on the easy target.
Corvus lets hope Dawkins isn't nihilistic because that would just fit in wouldn't it. tesla was a religious man who believed that God made electricy to it should be free to all.....Now think what if JP Morgan continued funding him how different life might be.
I am religious, however I agree that in general atheists are more intelligent than non-atheists. This is due to the fact that their judgment isn't clouded by a book that was written hundreds of years ago (way before major scientific advances). It's ignorant to brazenly ignore the hundreds of articles posted by well-educated scientists who's job is to study how EVERYTHING works. If you want to be smart and religious, take your dogmas with a grain of salt. Thank you for reading this.
Chess Master what you say is very true. I am, uhm.. *cough* smart *cough*, humble, and religious as well. we can't believe EVERYTHING scientist publish and study. a lot of it follow this video where they believe and certain event happened do to a specific cause. then they gain some evidence and BOOM published. or perhaps, they will do a biased study with like 10-50 people and attribute their findings to the entire world (Do you really believe every toothpaste is personally recommended by 9/10 doctors? also, a lot of research might be biased due to who's funding it or maybe biased because they need to make up some random breakthrough in a specific time limit or they will lose their funding (very popular in American culture). For example, A LOT of cases have happened where scientist have dug up the bones of areas and we're like, "THESE BONES ARE THOUSANDS OF YEARS OLD AND DATE BACK TO THE INTROMESIPIC ERA! THIS IS A CRAZY BREAK THROUGH!" Then like 10 years later when technology and terminology is better, they will be like, "Yo nvm we wrong. deez bonez b lik 100yrs old frm sum tribe or sum sht" Can't blame them. America is cut throat, either you have a super fast breakthrough or your funding is cut. I would probably bend the truth a little too if it meant keeping my job. All I'm saying is, yea, keep your mind open. Religions and scientific studies can both be convoluted. Be careful and do your homework before your accept something~
Chess Master Take dogmas with a grain of salt because of how ancient and inaccurate it is. For example, would you trust a book from the middle ages explaining how the earth is flat? Absolutely not, that would be ridiculously stupid, same goes for the bible. In the creation sequence in the bible plants are created BEFORE the sun, and as we know the sun is what provides plants life. Now let it be known that I am a christian, thus I believe that the bible was passed down orally, and thus became distorted. The bible most likely has many false things but still displays the message of salvation.
Chess Master And yes, blindly accepting scientists is ignorant as well, however what would you believe more? A book filled with plot holes, or a well-versed scientist? I find it hypocritical that you are making this point in fact, because I am positive that you do the same to the bible if you don't look at religious articles a little bit skeptically, as evident by your last comment. And if you are looking at sources from scientists talking about fields they aren't experienced in, it isn't a very reliable source. Also when I said scientists "study everything" I was implying scientists as a collective whole. One more thing, metaphysics isn't a branch of science, it's a branch of philosophy.
That was really interesting! And after I watched this, I went and looked up more information on this topic, and apparently there have been a few studies on this idea of whether atheists are smarter than believers. (And yes, I really do like the new animation style, I've always thought that it was really cool how you guys animate your videos.)
Feel good Inc. - There's no faith required to be an atheist, what are you on about? I get so tired of seeing this bollocks spread across the internet as a one-liner of absolute drivel. Disbelief requires not a bit of faith, disbelief is the default position. Belief requires evidence to support it, disbelief requires no such thing. I have no faith, in anything at all, and I honestly would like you to point out where exactly I, as an atheist, would be applying faith. Also, the religious folks are the only ones who say that they know how the universe was created. Atheism has nothing to do with theories on how the universe was created, it's simply a disbelief in unfounded, unsubstantiated claims. I've never met a single atheist ever that said they know everything, or that they know exactly how the universe was created. I appreciate the straw men though.
Your quote, Feel good inc.: "Atheism is the belief that there is no possibility of a deity" No, no it is not. Atheism is the lack of a belief in deities. What you are speaking of is called "strong atheism", and comprises a very small minority of atheists. You're obviously fairly ignorant on the subject, which is common for folks who are not atheists, or who do not know they are atheists. I am an atheist, I don't have a belief that "there are no gods", I just don't believe in any, and it's not very likely that they exist, as there's no evidence to support it. The majority of atheists share my position. I don't know if there are any gods, but I don't believe in any. Your quote: "What you're thinking of is called Agnosticism. Which follows the scientific method, stating that the truth remains unknown." Nope, again you are outright wrong. Agnostics have a neutral belief, and believe that knowledge of deities is unknown and unknowable. It's perhaps the very worst position possible. Having a neutral belief is saying that every god is just as likely as the other, as well as no god. That's ridiculous. Intellectual laziness and bet hedging. Agnostics are also making a claim, which atheists are not, agnostics claim that it is UNKNOWABLE, that's not scientific at all. Atheists make no such claim. I hope you understand the differences in the positions now. Atheism is the lack of belief in deities, strong atheism is the denial of deities existing, and agnosticism is retarded.
I'm sorry if you found what I had wrote aggressive, but I did not aim for it to be that way, perhaps it's just how you are taking it. It's not about manhood, but it's important to me that people understand what exactly it is atheists are, as I think you'll agree, there's mass confusion over this subject. It can be frustrating having to see the same misconceptions being repeated. Your quote: "Anyway, how do you propose we go about proving or disproving deity's?" Well that depends, some claims are not going to be falsifiable no matter how much science and technology advances. It's very easy to prove a deity exists, you'd just need evidence to support that. You can't prove a negative though, as in, you can't prove that something does not exist. You can falsify some religious statements, an example would be the age of the Earth in Abrahamic religions, that has been thoroughly falsified. Pi being wrong in the Bible has also been falsified, we know the correct number for Pi now. We can't disprove the Christian god from existing though however, for the same reasons we can't disprove the Easter Bunny exists. Anyway, some claims are not falsifiable, but that grants no credence to whether they are true or not. If I said that there's a planet 20 light years away where invisible green gnomes build houses out of slug slime, there's no way to disprove that, but there's also no reason to believe I'm telling the truth, as I have not presented evidence to substantiate my claim. The default belief is disbelief, the proof for this is quite clear, we do not believe that which we are unaware of, and we do not have a neutral belief about them either, we disbelieve. The only time disbelief is not rational, is when there is evidence to contradict a disbelief. Your quote: "According to most religions, humans are mentally incapable of comprehending them, so why do you think it could be disproven or proven?" Yeah, well the religious may be right, I don't know. We can't disprove every outrageous claim, but the point is, positive claims need evidence to support them, and when there is a void of evidence, the most rational course is disbelief, until evidence should exist either way. This is the problem I have with agnosticism, we shouldn't have a neutral belief when there is not any evidence. Saying that it is just as likely or as unlikely without a shred of evidence is not rational.
Feel good Inc. From a quick look atheism is defined as "disbelief or lack of belief" (Oxford and Merriam's) while agnosticism seems to be about knowledge and whether we can ever know the answer. For such philosophers as Schrödinger what would be their views on belief where there is no or inadequate evidence to support a claim? Presumably belief wouldn't be their default position, nor disbelief. Lack of belief would seem to fit with their philosophy on neither true or untrue though wouldn't it?
First of all, I must state that Science and faith CAN and DOES work together. Second, the assumption of this video is that we as a society are putting value on intelligence over other qualities, such as compassion. It is most definitely a pride thing for people to claim that they are smarter. Intelligence does not dictate your value, it does not make someone better than another because they have a higher IQ. As a Christian, Jesus has taught me to focus on loving others and bringing others up, instead of inflating my own ego by calling myself more intelligent, thus better. My friends, we are all equal, we all are sinners who need help.
@@nathanalves3284 because a believer of science (such as yourself) doubts faith and so you immediately cut off the relationship without thinking as shown in your comment. Why does faith go against everything science says? Why doesn’t science go against everything faith says?
Can I just say, to everyone, thanks. Usually the slightest mention of religion will start a shitstorm but this comment section seems pretty chill and ok with differing opinions!
i don't like the idea of saying that religious people are lower in IQ. it has nothing to do with intelligence. Just because someone beleives that everything has meaning, and was created for a purpose, by something, doesn't mean that they are not intelligent. I personally believe in god, but beleive in science 100%. I believe in evolution, the big bang (I'm a little iffy, but I think it's possible), etc. I just also believe that there is a highly intelligent being behind it all. It just makes sense to me. No, i don't beleive/agree with the bible completely, and anything I do think of a bit, I beleive that in the bible, is a metaphore. I don't consider my IQ to be lower than another's, just because I have a belief. That's just down right ridiculous if you ask me! But I of course do not think I'm smarter, or better than any atheist either. I don't think that religion defines anyone as a person.
Tyrannitar ArenasLocas I'm saying that i believe many of the scientific theories, that have not been proven. such as the big bang, and evolution Im sorry if I came off as just another idiot, but you have the right to think so, and I'll respect that.
I love all these comments. I being a Christian and one of my male friends being a Christian as well I can see open mindedness and closed mindedness. He is very closed minded and judge mental of others. I tend to be more open minded and nonjudgmental. Maybe due to how we were raised. We both are very strong in our beliefs but we go about sharing our beliefs and learning about others beliefs in different ways. I love listening to why people are atheists or talking to people about their religions and why they believe what they believe. Why would someone even want to try to understand what you believe if you aren't even willing to understand them. And when it comes to intelligence I think that yes atheists tend to be smarter. But "smart" is defined by society as science and math based typically. So is it really even being smart or is it just skilled in math and science? I'll leave it up to you.
as long as you belive in the fact that evolution and life spontaniously existing naurally is highly likely, and that because the way the universe works there is inherently no free will. then you can belive whatever you want about the creation of the universe
Actually atheists tend to be more critical thinkers, as they are also generally associated with being skeptics and critics. They also seem to question their surroundings more.
ikebeck Its just. I've never really been into religion. I'm a buddhist and all this atheist and Christianity debates make me a little worried that I'm missing out on something....
Dipper Pines Wow total opposite for me...I felt like i was missing something in my life i was depressed and felt overwhelmed.. once i became a believer i felt loved and like i could live! now I know i have a purpose:D
+rarity3106 As a strong agnostic person myself and with my personal opinion, I think it's damn awesome you found meaning and purpose in your beliefs even if they may widely differ my own....there's nothing wrong with having any such beliefs in any god or spirituality, but as an empiricist over a rationalist, I just believe religion tends to make most individuals choose faith and potentially unreasonable ignorance over actual reason, individuality, self-consciousness, logic, open-mindedness, being understanding, and acknowledging science, never to grow as a person by not gaining any experience due to these things....by my personal views, I don't think religion is a good thing due to the lack of what a person may learn and change in exchange for blind faith, but at the same time, I don't see how aggressively and fruitlessly arguing about others being blinded by beliefs of a fake man in the sky is useful, as everyone is free to their beliefs....but in the long-run, any belief that makes you ignorant to reason, logic, and basic thinking for yourself, is wrong...that being said, be curious....ask questions....decide for yourself what you wanna believe, but the most important thing is to stay reasonable, logical. and open-minded of others beliefs....and not mindlessly hate others for having different beliefs you might view as insane.... (EDIT: Oh c***, did you change your comment and convert to Atheism in this past week bro?)
Well religion usually involves faith and the definition of faith is belief without evidence.I don't think that bodes well for the two to mix properly together.
Burning Magyk the definition of faith: strong belief in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual conviction rather than proof. They was correct. They just simplified it.
In the past, Religion was created to explain the unexplainable. For example, what comes after death. Many people turn to religion out of fear of the unknown. Having it explained with stories and literature was comforting and still is for some. It doesn't mean it's bad, doesn't mean it's right either. There are those who choose to ignore facts and reasonings we have proven today because it interferes with ones faith, that's what's causing this correlation.
Katie Price what comes after death is still unexplainable. Even though religion is about faith, there are so many miracles which happen in the modern world that prove religion, and people still choose to disbelieve it. Why? Church often abuses it's "power" which cause people to turn away from religion. I myself believe that God is Truely Real, and we are all proof, you may ask how are we all proof. Well we all have our opinions and we have our will which allows us to make decisions. What about our soul? If this isnt enough proof to you, then i dont know what will be.
Religion does nothing but control and divide. Religions set up rules to define who the 'Us' is and everyone else is the 'Them', it then creates an environment where members self-police their behaviour out of fear of becoming one of 'Them'. The more restictive a religion, the more extreme the punishment for breaking the rules, physically and spiritually. The litmus test for me, in terms of is something worth believing in, is how would this behaviour be treated if the 'god' was human. For example the christian god is a sociopath, his message is "I love you, but if you don't love me back I will torture you for eternity." Every god that man has ever worshiped has been majorly dysfunctional in some way, at best acting like a spoiled brat, and at worst being a genocidal maniac. The possible exceptions are the nature spirits worshipped by the pagan 'religion', who for the most part are not portrayed as human-like. I am not totally an atheist; I belive in a soul, energy cannot be destroyed or created so our life force must come form somewhere and go somehere, and that there is a creative force behind the universe. But I don't believe that this force has any human characterists, emotions or any intelligence that can be appealed to. It just is - it doesn't have a plan nor is there anything we can do to influence it.
SevCaswell you're a perfect example of a manipulated person. Who is controlled by the media... And the devil of course, you will laugh and think it's rediculous now, but wait untill your last hour, then you'll realise.
SevCaswell call me crazy if you wish, but i didnt even have to read your comment, only read the first line, and it's easy to say that you are truely manipulated.
I was brought up christian, was confirmed at age 12, studdied it in depth for RE exams. 'God's message as portrayed in the christian bible essentially boils down to what I stated. If you don't believe in Jesus, and love him as he supposedly loves you then you go to hell, where you will be tortured for all eternity. Given that god created everything, then he created the devil and hell, so even if you try to say it is the devil torturing you then he made the devil do it.
I love how people say every religious person is close minded. And also , saying things like "uhhhhh atheists are more rational and more clever and religious people are close minded fucks! They believe some book which is pathetic hahdjshajhahs " really stupid , lol. Just because you're atheist doesnt mean you are more clever. Its the same as saying Religious people do more good things than atheists. not correct , because ya know , religion doesnt define a person.
Berschkaka, you say "I love how all atheists say every religious person is close minded" and then proceed to talk about the illegitimacy of generalizing people based on religion. Please read your comments before posting.
Berschkaka saying that as an anti-antitheist or as a Christian? (Mind you, I don't judge anyways, as long as you aren't harming anyone or yourself, just curious is all.)
Releasing this video late, but this video goes into the research of whether atheists are more intelligent than believers. Love to hear your thoughts! Also, this video has a new animator so the style is slightly different than our usuals, but hope you enjoy. Have a great rest of the week everyone!
Psych2Go An argument can be made that more intelligent people tend to leave religion. Been evident since the greeks (I mean the "greeks". of course there are greeks now also) Edit: My statement "more intelligent people tend to leave religion." Is not specific & could potentially be misleading. The more accurate way to put this would be _Presented with evidence & arguments against religion/god(s), the intelligent are more likely to opt out of religion._
Psych2Go honestly I agree with you, most of my family members are religious and somehow I don't know exactly why I'm not. My family members are irrational and instead of thinking they just blurt out what ever comes to mind. :/
Psych2Go í like the video, tbh I think that this debate at least in America is over hyped. thanks for trying to explain a key part of this age old crazy debate.
When people think of religion, they picture Christianity, the pope and churches. And that’s not what religion is, just because I believe in a higher being doesn’t make me more or less intelligent. I think it takes HIGH intelligence and curiosity to question science. I was raised an atheist all my life, and I was getting sick of everyone talking about god and all that so I decided to take the Bible and study it hard! It took me about 2 years to finally get somewhere and have an opinion on this subject and I’m STILL learning something new everyday! I think everyone here can agree that until you’ve studied something you can’t have an opinion on it!
There would be no point in a debate. I am quite firm in the belief that there is no god. You are not going to change my mind. I do believe that there is no greater evil in this world than religious people. Not just christians, all religious people. Just because some stories were written down on some papyrus leaves by people living in a mud hut a couple to thousand years ago, to try to control people, does not mean those stories are true. There is no evidence for those stories. The people that believe in those stories, have over the last two thousand years started more wars, killed more people, and caused more pain and suffering than all other causes combined. It makes no sense whatsoever to believe that some god, or gods created everything. It is not difficult to look it up but the fact is most of the stories were taken from older religions that existed long before the time of christ. There was even one character that walked on water, raised the dead, and was crucified, and raised from the dead over two hundred fifty years before the supposed birth of christ. If you are going to believe the bible you must take all of it or none of it. After all it is the word of god, and god is perfect. He wouldn't make mistakes, or inspire people to writ his word down incorrectly. So if you believe the bible you must believe that a man owns his wife and children, and the races must remain separated from each other, and you must believe that slavery is just fine, and you can never wear clothing with two types of fibre in them. It is also a good thing to kill all of the first born children in a country, just to prove a point. Id you are one of the chosen family and your wife can't have kids just go ahead and screw your sister and have kids with her. that sounds like a good ides, doesn't it. Don't forget the nine headed dragon is going to rise up, so we have to worry about him. How many more ridiculous stories do you need from the bible? I can keep this up for days. I understand that stupid book. Greek mythology, Roman mythology, and paganism all make just as much sense as the bible, and christianity, the muslim religion, or judaism, they are much older, and were just as serious in their day as any to today's religions. They are dead religions. There needs to be a lot more dead religions. I have read and understand the bible, and have studied other religions. That is why I am an atheist. Sorry, that is the end of my debate. I am done wasting my time.
Randy D. First of all I agree 100% that all religions are evil. And I do not represent any religion nor am I trying to make you believe in anything. I too would like to stick with just the facts. Especially when it comes to Zara Thustra, but I have information about him, that I submit you’ve NEVER heard before. I submit Friedrich Nietzsche was wrong, but if you would like for me to give you my facts and evidence I would be more than glad to.
I don't know if I'm an atheist or not. I'd rather not title myself either one because later down the line my opinions could change and I don't want to just say "I'm an atheist!" when maybe in a few years or more I could become religious. That's pretty much the same for any kind of title for myself really. You're not religious, you're not an atheist, but you are yourself, and that's what matters.
TheGuyWithGame Creations But everyone changes as time goes on; I mean, it's like saying I shouldn't state I'm 25 when next year I'm going to be 26. IMO, a person is defined by their experiences, opinions, beliefs, and consequently, their labels. As the famous saying goes, "I think, therefore I am". Labels, IMO, are not derogatory but there are derogatory labels of which "aethiest" or "religious" are not.
Well it depends you want to understand something then science if you want a deep metaphorically philosophical teaching that can help you live your life then the book full of stories I guess.
when it comes to the existence of an intelligent creator, the smartest person is the person who says “I don’t know” that’s because no one does, no matter confident they be in their belief
True. It's hard to explain knowledge though. As in we can know things with no proof but it forms the make it true. I fell like I know god can't possibly exist but I also know that I don't know how've the universe was formed.
Ok I believe in god ( oh all the atheists coming to tell me in wrong) but I believe that some things like the Bible are slightly lying Obviously evolution was a thing still a thing and I believe in science before religion but can't we just say we interpreted something wrong
You do realize either the creationists are right or the evolutionists are right, right? There is no way to combine the theories without making a complete fool of yourself from both sides.
I recommend looking further at studies that have been done on this to get a wider understanding. The most popular studies that are commonly promoted in search engines and mainstream media actually conflict with the results of numerous other similar studies that have been done.
... why is Christianity the main religion shown in the video? I mean Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and others exist too. like why pin the religion part almost entirely on Christianity?
a lot of the smartest people I know are christians (and I'm not basing their intelligence on their religious knowledge, but rather on their achievement) but they like myself are theist christians where we don't obsess over every little thing such as politics or homosexuality and God's role. It is very true that a lot of low IQ people tend to be the most superstitious religious people as smarter people do not care and often believe that they are simply more elite than others, while slower people tend to believe in religions as most religions believe that before God, everyone is equal, and it gives them hope that they are not meaningless. smart people often don't want to feel like someone else has blessed them with intelligence but rather that they gave it to themselves, and low IQ people don't want to believe that they were born to be less than others, but rather God deemed it that way.
Sayton Dette You know... The fact that few Christians actually agree on what a Christian actually is and adheres to it - I don't understand how you describing your unique Christian view undermines the overwhelming consensus already established as to what a Christian is.
It depend on the person. Just because you are an atheist does not make you smart and being religion does not mean you don't believe in science. If you look at it most of the greatest scientist were religion: 1. Charles Babbage who invented the Computer. 2. Michael Faraday who discover Electric and Electromagnetic. 3.Ambrose Fleming who invented electronics. 4. Lord Kelvin who discover Thermodynamics 5. Samuel F.B Morse who created Telegraph. 6. Robert Boyle who started chemistry. 7. Isaac Newton who discover Law of gravity, Dynamics and Calculus. 8. Charles Townes who invented the laser. 9. Francis Sellers Collins is an American physician-geneticist noted for his discoveries of disease genes and his leadership of the Human Genome Project. And the first/ father scientist were a Bishop and a priest.
Navit Ekpherh Back then people didn't question shit. Even Galileo had to confess his 'sins' for discovering Jupiter's moos and that they orbit Jupiter. Now we have more information then what we had back then. Certain things weren't explained. Even if they were religious, they might've been forced, who knows.
"Some people may think that religious people are just believing in something because they can. But in reality, religious people have something to live for, something to work on, something to accomplish when their time is up. Religious people want to go through tough times, but with someone to believe in, someone who they have faith in to make life, for everyone, better." - Anonymous.
"Science can only be created by those who are thoroughly imbued with the aspiration towards truth and understanding. This source of feeling, however, springs from the sphere of religion" -Albert Einstein
Consequences of religion displacing science In the United States, Christianity has indoctrinated a generation of its young people to distrust science and hold fast to religious traditions and spirituality. The repercussions of this trend have historical precedence, as discussed by Neil deGrasse Tyson: “Americans overall are bad at science. Scared of math. Poor at physics and engineering. Resistant to evolution. This science illiteracy,is a threat to the nation. The consequence of that is that you breed a generation of people who do not know what science is nor how and why it works,” he said. “You have mortgaged the future financial security of your nation. Innovations in science and technology are the (basis) of tomorrow’s economy.” America’s decline isn’t unprecedented, Tyson said. Just look back 1,000 years ago at the Middle East, where math and science flourished in Baghdad. Algebra and algorithms were invented in the Middle East. So were Arabic numerals, the numbers we still use today. But when a new cleric emerged during the 12th century, he declared math and science to be earthly pursuits, Tyson said, and good Muslims should be concerned about spiritual affairs. The scientists drifted away, and scientific literacy faded from that part of the world. Of 655 Nobel Prizes awarded in the sciences since 1900, Tyson said, only three have been awarded to Muslims. Things that seem harmless can have devastating effects,” he said. Europe dominated science in the centuries that followed. You can see its influence today, Tyson said. Just look at currency: European paper money has carried the pictures of famous scientists. The former German currency bore the picture of the mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss and his most famous contribution, the bell curve. “It is a not-so-subtle message from the government that math matters,” Tyson said. “If it’s on your currency, it is part of your culture. You think it. You feel it. Whether or not you’re a scientist or a mathematician, you’re not going to be the person to stand in their way when they’re trying to get math and science done.” The United States had its own scientific golden age in the last half of the 20th century. The space race and the Cold War drove scientific invention. Popular culture was full of flying cars, monorails, cities of tomorrow and world fairs that celebrated progress and invention. “You didn’t need special programs to try to convince people that they should like science,” Tyson said. “It was already writ large in headlines. You don’t do that without science, technology, engineering and math. And everybody knew it.” Today, Tyson said, too many Americans mistake clouds for UFOs, believe in alien abductions, reject evolution (known to scientists as the foundation of biology), fear the number 13 and negative numbers, and freak out about supermoons that really aren’t any bigger than regular old full moons. If national leaders and local school boards want to ignore science, Tyson said that’s fine with him. (It’s not fine with us at Scientific Literacy Matters) But, he said, let’s say he’s the chief executive officer of a corporation that’s looking for a site for its headquarters. “It’s not going to be in your state,” Tyson said. “The future companies need science literacy for their R&D, for advancements, for innovation. And so your state will fade among the 50. That’s a consequence.” When religion is promoted, science falters, and when science falters, people suffer. No true religion would have the effect of increasing the suffering of the people who practice it, but that is what has happened and what is happening right now. In the United States, the most religious states are the poorest and unhealthiest. This is not a coincidence. Christianity is a false religion and whenever a large number of people are fixated on a myth, the well-being of society takes a turn for the worse.
I think that when you are born religious, but finally turn out atheist, it may have something to do with intelligence, because you dont just blind believe but question and think about it
i grew up with no religion but still learning to respect all (yes all) religions bc people should believe in what they wanna believe in like i wanna and i do believe in sience 2021 update: im not atheist anymore 🙃
I love how atheists say religious people are all bad and force religion on others and are super judge mental and they do the same thing, there is no good side of the story, not every religious person is like that and neither is every atheist, like why can’t we just be in peace, seriously dude
He was curious, why would he ever want to find how the universe was created when if he is a christian he should know "god" created it. Admit it, curiousity is a sign of intelligence and it is driven by the doubt of god.
One misconception everyone has is that spiritualists are not religious people. Actually, we are partially atheists too!! We believe in God not as form of person, but the divine energy around you. We say, divine energy is spread everywhere in this creation, you say that energy circulates around the entire universe. We say, the yin and yang explain everything around you, you say that every action has equal and opposite reaction. We say, the seven Chakras govern your soul, you say that seven endocrine glands regulate the entire body. See, science and spirituality don't have to be different.
How do you respect other religons? religions aren't a fairy tale suject that you choose. they are religons. If you pick one religion you automatically disrespect all the other religions.
I liked the part of the explanation that mentioned the "culture" of hockey and beer drinking influencing people. This brings out the truth of religious people being "less intelligent". It's the religious CULTURE that does often put down education, and probably vise versa. I am "religious", was raised that way. My non-religious father greatly encouraged by education; my religious step-father did not for religious reasons (not founded in the Bible). I know many Christians wholly dedicated to better and higher education, who speak multiple languages, build computer programs from scratch, teach, travel, translate, etc... They have Masters Degrees and PhD's, and some of them are self-educated in these areas because they're just that disciplined and smart. I know of other Christians who somehow scorn education as the enemy of God. Depending on which group and culture you're influenced by will likely determine your level of intelligence. It's not that religious people are automatically dumb because of religion, but rather their education can be hindered by the people they surround themselves with. (As a side note, there are different kinds of valuable skills and intelligences. Even the "uneducated" scorner of scholastics will possess knowledge and skills many of the "educated" people in this country don't have.)
am I weird for believing in both? I am a science person, always been. I find some religious rituals absurd because in my mind I know there's another perfectly reasonable well-accepted explanation. On the other hand I also believe in spirits, good ones and bad ones. I am a scientific person but if something's unexplainable, I accept it and don't try to come up with rational explanations if I can't. If I felt my house was haunted, I'd be the first person to get the house blessed. I guess I have my own view on God. Oh and I just realized that I typed all this when I could have just said "I believe in God, not religion".
I have seen reverse situations in person. Other students that I have met in school that came from more religious backgrounds were more inclined to work hard to be successful in school. There seemed the be a correlation with religiosity and firm, strict behavior and study. The more atheist inclined students I had known had little more explanation than "lol you believe in some magic guy in the sky". They were far from some deeply analytic person quoting Darwin or other prominent figures. Most would probably even only have a passing knowledge of who any of those people even are/were. There may also be some connection with those religious families largely being from immigrant families, many from eastern Europe, that were determined to be more successful in the U.S. That's just another piece of the puzzle.
@@UN1VERS3S imagine thinking people have the imagination to write the bible 😂😂 you are the type of person to think the entire universe spawned on its own😂😂
I think that atheism is relatively new in today's society. This means that not many people are born with atheist parents, so it is rarer to be "born atheist" then to be born in a religious family. This leaves the majority of atheists as people who are converted, or religion-less. So I believe that intellectuals, are generally pulled towards atheism because it links with their lifestyles and beliefs. For example they may have a job in science or maths. This means the majority of atheists are generally on the smart side of the intelligence spectrum. Basically, less intelligent people are default believers while smarter people generally go for the atheist thing. I think.
You are on to something really important, but not sure if you believe what I believe. I believe that religious people are definitely not as smart overall because most people are born believing in God. However, I do believe there are as many if not more believers who question God and come to the conclusion that he does exist as there are non believers who question God and come to the conclusion that there is no God. The best way to do this study is to take 2,000 intelligent people and then ask them if they believe in God or not, not the other way around.
I have legendary 96 year old jew in my town. He always says "Intelligent people don't need religion because they are smart enough to think for themselves and not need false sense of security that someone is watching over them." He is an atheist and said that many of his Jewish friends also don't believe in any religion.

In other words, they saw being good as wrong, or you need to be bad and do things wrong. My school had plenty of bullies, jerks, trouble makers, thieves, liars, etc. Not a single one of the people who fit those descriptions ever remotely gave me the impression they were seeking God. @@blackkyurem2783 If you seek God with all your heart, you will find him (Deut 4:29), once you find God, you know he is real, then, in my case anyway, I started reading the Bible and many of the things I didn't understand were explained once I actually read it. Other things the Bible says, I experienced after finding God, when you read the Bible and see (because you experienced it) that this is true, that is true, it builds up your faith and you trust that the parts that have not yet been proven true will be true also.
"Albert Einstein and most great human inventors believed in creator"? If you had actually made an effort to study Einstein's life and beliefs, you would understand clearly that he did *not* believe in a 'creator'. Einstein was a pantheist; he did *not* believe in the Abrahamic god, nor did he believe any supernatural agency created the universe. In his writings he often used the word 'god' as a metaphor for the beauty and harmony of nature. In Einstein's view, belief in the god of the bible was tantamount to being "childish"

Albert Einstein has been credited with saying that but he never said it, nor is it a true statement. A genius is a person who is exceptionally intelligent or creative, either generally or in some particular respect. It is a nice thought, but the fact is the vast majority of humans don't meet this standard unless your standard for what constitutes "genius" is so low that the meaning is lost.
If you think one can't be very scientific (i.e. believing in evolution, climate change, the big bang ect) and be religious.. then just talk to almost any episcopal. It's called "not everything should be taken literally" and "god didn't write the bible himself." I've always been encouraged to question things and think critically, and it's not looked down upon to not be religious in my church or to lose faith. I feel so sorry for people raised in judgmental christian churches where they feel anything but love. In the episcopal church, I have never been around more intelligent/accepting and loving people. There's my two cents!
I feel the need to comment. I believe that religion IS a battle that is passive aggressive. Nearly everyone is talking about how it doesn’t matter how smart you are, but your intellect impacts your argument, impacting how you think. I am a very young person and nearly all my friends are atheists. (I’m not a follower I try to stay unique from others I didn’t switch because I wanted to be like them) and they are all smart in their own ways. My personal idea is that there are 4 types of smart: emotionally smart, being able to express and control your emotions, brain smart, being good at school, organization, thinking about more important things, etc. Thought smart, being able to think deeply about everything, using your mind to solve problems, answering questions with estimating, creating new perspectives and thinking about perspectives, (I am the best in this smart in my opinion) and memory smart which is having a good memory, remembering things fluently, being able to recall what you ate or drank, etc. there are also sub divisions like empathetic smart which is being able to feel the emotions of others, and connect with them, or reaction smart, which is the speed of your brain and thought process of something. I want to upload a UA-cam video about this so go there for a full explanation. It might not be released yet though. Anyways, I hope you thought my 20 minute ramble was interesting, please enjoy your day/night

Closed minded = little knowledge
Open minded = more knowledge
Don't be closed minded.
Don't seek knowledge in only one place.
@arkin medrano close minded means to believe in something and keep believing it for the rest of your life
Open minded means always keep changing opinions and always keep changing beliefs and always not so sure about things because we're not capable of understanding the whole universe right now
@arkin medrano they didn’t say anything about christians???
@arkin medrano u good my g?

I have a feeling it's gonna be one of those comment sections where everyone is saying "Lmao why is everyone so triggered?" and stuff like that when really nobody is mad here. Great video btw, coming from a Christian.
Same, other videos i watch that talk about religions and non religions always have a triggered comment section. And that triggers me!
Fanceh Mudkip I wish you were right about this comment section.
Fanceh Mudkip lol same I haven't seen a single hate comment yet people are saying 'people are so triggered'
Fanceh Mudkip well either those comments keep those who are triggered at bay or those who make the comments are triggered and projecting.
The more likely you are to think for yourself independently, the more likely you are to question everything

As someone who thinks independently and questions everything, I can confirm that you are right.
As someone who exercises the same lifestyle, i can agree with both of you.
I love when you pseudo intellectuals equate atheism with free-thinking
Two different things
Well, free-thinking isn't promoted in the bible, and in lots of cases it leads to atheism. While correlation doesn't necesserily mean causation, it's still noteworthy.
Haven't watched the video yet but I'm just going to comment that as an Atheist, I do not think that we are smarter. We just think differently.
I wouldn’t say atheists and theists think differently, I think they’ve just reached a different conclusion (I’d assume based on personal experience)

Lucentail- we are tho
Lucentail- not really. im not speaking for all atheists of course, but its more about not getting manipulated so easily. if someone tells me „god exists, believe in god just read the bible“ i will try to argue why god makes sense or doesnt. i wont just blindly believe in something there is absolutely no proof of. and thats pretty much how atheism works.
I don't have a problem with people believing what they want, and in no way do I believe that as an atheist that I'm smarter than everyone who believes, but I do have problem with the type of people who can't except someone's beliefs and try to force theirs and saying that person is wrong

Is it smarter or just the fact that we can live with "I don't know". This allows you to learn more.
1. Love god
@chileshe Chonta Religion is for people who are afraid of hell, spirituality is for people that have already been there.
Isn't that agnostic?
The reason people don't like talking about religion is because theology is literally a subject without an object, and religious people tend to get upset when others point that out.
Not really. It's just atheists incorrectly perceiving the basic ideology of theology. Similar to how atheists who get upset when someone calls the big bang physically impossible, theists get upset when someone says a god is scientifically impossible.
Brick Brony
The big bang has nothing to do with atheism. If you don't accept the big bang then you have a problem with science.
Excuse me, but if you think about that statement long enough, you may realize that the big bang has a problem with science.
Don't believe me? Then tell me why can't we replicate the big bang.
Orange Boy
I except the Big Bang, but then atheists
Still try to crush me just because I believe

Brick Brony
We can't really replicate the Roman empire yet we know it existed at one point.
I think so.

-The cross is used to denote one religious belief in the given region, in this case the US.
The thrower could be an angry atheist who doesn't like the findings of the studies, feeling all people regardless of background are equal and scientific study is an unreliable source of information? No specification on what the drawing is beyond an "Angry youtube commentor".

True intelligence is knowing when to be quiet something Reddit users will never understand
You may wanna had that this is the same for non religious people aka atheist. Because some also think to be above others.

Ethan Payne Agnosticm refers to lack of knowledge. You can be both agnostic and theist/atheist.
Actually, the term "agnostic" basically just means you won't take sides, claiming neither belief nor disbelief in a God or gods.

There are many different types of intelligence, so "being smart" could mean a number of things.
But religion doesn't define a person
Intelligence refers to a phenomenon that trenscends the specific cognitive skills considered. Roughly speaking, someone smart is, on average, better at 'everything' than the next person. It is the capacity for generalized problem solving, in other words.
That is something very precise, not a matter of contention, although it appears that the dispersion between sets of skills increase with IQ. A smart person would be good everywhere equally, but a genius could be, say, good everywhere, except they'd be amazing at verbal skills.
+Dil's Super Crybaby
Thank God, someone finally said it. I never understood the obsession towards specifically IQ, when its measurement is so narrow with respect to the broad range in variations of intellect.
Most people's definition of being smart is logic and the ability to think critically; which is what this video is talking about
Dil's Super Crybaby I assume it’s what most people consider intelligence, which is IQ or book smarts

Ghost gal101 yeah smarter... " uh I'll tell you the deepest shit in Rick and morty ugghhhhhhhh"

Rambi Hahaha!
Snakethrow he's being sarcastic!
+Snakethrow - He is mocking the idea of the power of god. If god is so powerful, he is supposed to be able to control people's religious belief. In this case making people atheists.
but I think the whole point of (most) religions is that God gave us the free will to change our beliefs. (I could be wrong but that is what I was taught.)
well.. that was an overstatement, but that is still what we believe, that God gave us the free will to do what we wish.
it all depends on the person.
Jose Flores Most atheists are agnostics
Even fucking Richard Dawkins is technically an agnostic atheist

Jesus Christ Is Your maker no

Glad you enjoyed it! Will past the comment over to the animator :) Thanks!
Your quote, Feel good inc.: "Atheism is the belief that there is no possibility of a deity"
No, no it is not.
Which follows the scientific method, stating that the truth remains unknown."
Nope, again you are outright wrong.
Your quote: "Anyway, how do you propose we go about proving or disproving deity's?"
Well that depends, some claims are not going to be falsifiable no matter how much science and technology advances.
Your quote: "According to most religions, humans are mentally incapable of comprehending them, so why do you think it could be disproven or proven?"
Yeah, well the religious may be right, I don't know.
Well said, God bless you Florence
How can science and faith work together when faith goes against everything science says?
@@nathanalves3284 because a believer of science (such as yourself) doubts faith and so you immediately cut off the relationship without thinking as shown in your comment. Why does faith go against everything science says? Why doesn’t science go against everything faith says?
@@plunger9165 in general having faith in something or someone means believing even without proof which goes against science

i don't like the idea of saying that religious people are lower in IQ. it has nothing to do with intelligence.

And being religious is not defined as being a Christian. You can be Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, etc. All considered religious
as long as you belive in the fact that evolution and life spontaniously existing naurally is highly likely, and that because the way the universe works there is inherently no free will. then you can belive whatever you want about the creation of the universe
Actually atheists tend to be more critical thinkers, as they are also generally associated with being skeptics and critics. They also seem to question their surroundings more.

You choose the belief, don't let it choose you.
Dipper Pines How so?
Well religion usually involves faith and the definition of faith is belief without evidence.I don't think that bodes well for the two to mix properly together.
That's the definition of "blind faith", not faith in general.
blind faith- big bang theory hmmm
Burning Magyk the definition of faith: strong belief in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual conviction rather than proof.

Tim Hanselbach Did you just say the flying Spaghettimonster doesnt exist??? Oh your gonna go to pasta-hell brother!

An argument can be made that more intelligent people tend to leave religion. Been evident since the greeks (I mean the "greeks". of course there are greeks now also)
Edit: My statement "more intelligent people tend to leave religion." Is not specific & could potentially be misleading.
I have studied religion, that is why I know it is absurd.
Randy D. I would love to debate you, if you don’t mind
It can either take high intelligence and curiosity, or stupidity and lack of intelligence to question science.😐It can really go either way
I don't know if I'm an atheist or not.

You know...
If you look at it most of the greatest scientist were religion:
1. Charles Babbage who invented the Computer.
2. Michael Faraday who discover Electric and Electromagnetic.
3.Ambrose Fleming who invented electronics.
4. Lord Kelvin who discover Thermodynamics
Consequences of religion displacing science
In the United States, Christianity has indoctrinated a generation of its young people to distrust science and hold fast to religious traditions and spirituality. The repercussions of this trend have historical precedence, as discussed by Neil deGrasse Tyson:
“Americans overall are bad at science. Scared of math. Poor at physics and engineering. Resistant to evolution. This science illiteracy,is a threat to the nation.
The consequence of that is that you breed a generation of people who do not know what science is nor how and why it works,” he said. “You have mortgaged the future financial security of your nation. Innovations in science and technology are the (basis) of tomorrow’s economy.”
America’s decline isn’t unprecedented, Tyson said.
Whether or not you’re a scientist or a mathematician, you’re not going to be the person to stand in their way when they’re trying to get math and science done.”
The United States had its own scientific golden age in the last half of the 20th century.
And everybody knew it.”
Today, Tyson said, too many Americans mistake clouds for UFOs, believe in alien abductions, reject evolution (known to scientists as the foundation of biology), fear the number 13 and negative numbers, and freak out about supermoons that really aren’t any bigger than regular old full moons.
If national leaders and local school boards want to ignore science, Tyson said that’s fine with him. (It’s not fine with us at Scientific Literacy Matters)
But, he said, let’s say he’s the chief executive officer of a corporation that’s looking for a site for its headquarters.
“It’s not going to be in your state,” Tyson said. “The future companies need science literacy for their R&D, for advancements, for innovation. And so your state will fade among the 50. That’s a consequence.”
When religion is promoted, science falters, and when science falters, people suffer.

Anusha Mahanta I think the word you're looking for is deism.
Not necessarily. It's possible for someone to not associate oneself with any religion and still be a theist.
Isn't that a Deist?
A deist is someone who believes that the supreme being only went as far as create the universe and does not currently interact with it.
MI Wright Isn't that what OP said?

I think.
Irrelevant Channel atheism is the oldest belief its just that theyre being killed less
And you'd be entirely wrong. A lot of intellectuals have actually been pulled towards religion due to the dangers of atheism, actually.
I have legendary 96 year old jew in my town. Albert Einstein has been credited with saying that but he never said it, nor is it a true statement.
I know not like every smart man was a atheist what u just said is common sense that everyone knows and that was a super small % difference
For my short answer:No depending on person
