Mongolia and Iceland are thousands of miles apart and settled by entirely different groups of people, yet their cuisines are quite similar. They both eat a lot of lamb/mutton and little vegetables, offal is a very important part of the diet, and they use sheep stomachs as casing for minced sausages and other cuts of meat to cook in.
I wonder if summer berries and fruits are available and if Mongolians do canning or preserves? Back in the day of fresh fish trucks, small ice boxes and slow deliveries, we ate a lot of pickled things in the winter, from corned beef to salt fish. We stored root vegys in the cold cellar or unfinished basements of our homes, built into the earth, often with earth floors. I remember those customs. My relatives pickled summer tomatoes, dry mustard and onion to make 'chow', a side dish. Pickled herring, (yuck,) very popular on the east coast in Canada. Jams were big, homemade for the Canadian winter.

Indian here, You know what I LOVE about Mongolian people? They are cool as F. They are peaceful, they cook amazing food, they eat, sleep and dont give a shit about anything else. You would hardly hear about them in the news. About 900 years ago, one fine day they suddenly thought of having a change, and they ended up conquering almost all of Asia. What a country! What a cool people! Love from India
Wow! Look at that wonderful knife work with the food. The closest thing in English to that would be a Scottish dish called haggis, therefore, in English you can refer to this as Mongolian Haggis and people will understand.
So delicious. I have been in Darkan many times.i got a lot of good memories there. I was always drunk there, as usual, I hardly get some sleep there, just so much to do and enjoy as the young ones do. Drinking near a river then everyone swims in the chilled cold river then climb on top of the mountains and drink there again then sing long songs then go gown the mountain because it's already dark then drink again, Rasputin, Smirnoff and absolute 100 percent vodka shake with small part of water then drink it in a full bowl, then another bowl again. Those were the happiest days of my life, being young and fearless.
