- In this video I need to drive into the small town of Heber, AZ to get my mail and some groceries. I head back into the woods to wait out a snow storm that ends up bringing much more snow than expected.

I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Only people who don't live with this stuff for months on end can say how great snow is. Personally I'm glad to see it leave.
Another helpful hint. You don't try to get out of heavy snow when the sun is out and it is soft and melting, you go when it is dark late at night when it gets cold again and the snow is hard and packs good.. If the snow is deep and wet and mushy you will slide and get stuck.. That is what I have learned from 10 years of living in snow country. So just get out of there late at night and get closer to the main road and hunker down there till morning..

There's no better feeling than listening to the wind blow all night whilst warm and comfortable and waking up to a foot or so of snow on the van in the morning.
I wrote a poem a long time ago and I called it The Calling... and a couple of lines in it go: The sound of snow softens in my ears... and the Purity of Life becomes my Life Fountain... It embraces and engulfs me... I become it's willing captive ... and, I'm free.... Don't be so anxious about nothing... because you are being blessed to be able to be there and not in the middle of some of the chaos that others are finding themselves in... these days... allow yourself to be blessed ... and you are a blessing to many, by just being there... Ah yes, the fine line between freaking out and enjoying the surroundings. I have felt that feeling many times on the road in my van. It is a good feeling to exercise while on the road. It gives me confidence to try new and slightly more difficult adventures in the future. Thanks for the video Brian. The snow is beautiful!

I lived in Flagstaff for 6 years and always enjoyed the time after a storm. The good news is that it will dissipate quickly in the dry climate, so don’t work too hard trying to make it go away. Maybe a bigger tank for the diesel heater should be in the cards... Great video! Stay warm.

Hi Brian, down the road on 260 is another grocery store. It's called Mogollon Market, the owners are pretty nice. I usually go there for groceries when I'm at our cabin in Overgaard. Thank you for showing everyone the beauty of the Rim Country. Blessings to you and Kelly.

I have seen other UA-camrs dig their van out of deep snow, because they caught in the woods by way more snow than they were expecting. They were in boondocking in Canada.

Crazy how cold it is down south. I live in south central Alaska and we have been around 40 degrees for almost 2 weeks...
A lot of this area in Ohio and Pennsylvania got an ice storm overnight. You may want to check your airport for delays?

Wonderful video Easy climbing on the roof so slippery and a long way from medical I broke an ankle in 2007 on a icy trail just like that by my self made a crutch and luckily a snowmobiler came by and rescued me. all the way to a surgery table. Love those small pine tree towns Be well
Being from San Diego the snow must be an extra special treat for your camp.
Now 68 thinking as I watched you of a lesson learned when I was about 16-17. My best friend and I were in his uncle's VW Dune buggy broke down in the middle of the desert. I was concerned about our ability to get back to his uncle's as the heat of the day was increasing. My friend says let's take a walk look around. I thought he was crazy after all we were stuck. We took our walk and when we returned he was able to get the buggy running all was well.
Over they years that example has helped me by stepping away from the problem and coming back to it with a clear mind and often an easy answer.
I think you did well with your approach of concern yet enjoying yourself and the beauty surrounding you. Anxiety is real but so is often the ability to manage it. Thanks for the nice video and a reminder to cease the day.

I just came in from shoveling snow off the driveway to watch this. Snow is not bad if you don't have to drive in it. Sounds like you learned how to deal with it, snow chains, extra heater fuel, extra food. As long as you have a warm quilt and a source of unfrozen water you can last a long time.

Brian, this was a beautiful episode. So peaceful away from the troubles of the world. Hi Brain. The old guy here, showed you my wood cravings in Quartzsite. I use a telescope leader to clean our solar panels on my van and Lynn's Toyota rv. It's easy to store and a lot safer thin climbing up on your track like you did. I thought o - no. Anyway have fun my friend playing in the snow.
Curry looks great. My mother was Japanese and she made pork curry over rice ALL THE TIME. Made my heart feel good just watching you make it. ENJOY my friend.

Your remind me of the Donner Party at Donner Lake. They weren't stuck either because the couldn't move through the snow. I would have just hunkered down an boondocked in Heber until the storm was over. I love your curry cooking. An other great video.
