Cally O'lonegan So many of us in America are very proud of our Scottish and Irish heritage. And we do keep a special place in our heart for Scottish and Irish homeland of our ancestors/family.
You my man are the luckiest father ever. Hopefully he follows in your footsteps becoming a firefighter himself, and even if not, he's got the heart of gold and the courage of a lion already. Best of luck to you both.
Yes, when you're at The World's in Glasgow, it's easy to see that there are many talented piper-children, but this is just a local news story. It's certainly not common for 7yo kids to play the pipes at a grade 4 level, at least not in the US. I think the youngest member of our band started PC at 9, and he was ready to compete at 11, and we were all pretty impressed.
As if being self-taught is somehow not gonna make you good enough? :/! Sure, some real-life guided instruction/tips can absolutely help when needed, but this already sounded incredible. There's plenty of evidence that there are self-taught (or at least partially self-taught) musicians that already sound great on their respective instrument. You just have to be musically inclined and have the patients to learn and soke in some knowledge. And a lot of the information you need to learn an instrument is right here on UA-cam or other websites; gone are the days where you had to go to an expensive music school or something to learn to play an instrument. This is truly a musical revolution, because learning to play something is no longer limited to wealthy people who could afford an expensive music school or who could hire an instructor for private lessons or whatever; learning to play/make music has truly become more accessible than ever before. This is certainly not to say that this will take away the hours and hours of practice you might need to learn to effectively play your instrument. That time commitment is no less of a requirement than it was before the days of UA-cam and the internet. And yes, there are people who have UA-cam channels dedicated to teaching bagpipes, in particular. Some of these also do "Zoom" or "Skype" meetings if the beginner bagpiper would like one-on-one instruction if needed. We need to step out of the old way of thinking and onward to the new.
I'm impressed. I asked my aunt and uncle to get me some highland bagpipes for my birthday this coming February. I have Scottish and Irish and accessory in my blood. GuitarGuy057 mate, do you play the Pipes? Are you a member of a Pipeband? Have you been playing for seven years? I know a smaller sized bag when I see one. One of the other members in my band has a synthetic bannatyne Pipebad which is small instead of a regular.
