- Every little boy wants to be like his dad. But when Luke Stewart tried to copy his dad's new bagpiping hobby, no one expected he'd be this good at it.

Haha right! lol XD
He's not making a statement. He's a kid enjoying what he loves.

That’s correct.
Well done laddie!!
I absolutely love to see a kid his age doing something like this. The pipes are a very demanding instrument, to say the least. Good on you, kid!
Dad is more than proud!!!
Wow! This kid sounds wonderful playing the bagpipes! Pipe on kid! Self taught too, that's truly awesome!
It would be nice if they actually played a clip of him playing a song.
They did just after 30 seconds in and again at around 50
They actually did at the very end.
He played Scotland the Brave. ❤
100 points for the beautiful mum🤣🤣🤣🤣
Be very careful Mom and Dad, you have an old soul on your hands, and I'm willing to bet that this isn't his 1st time around
You my man are the luckiest father ever. Hopefully he follows in your footsteps becoming a firefighter himself, and even if not, he's got the heart of gold and the courage of a lion already. Best of luck to you both.
Get that boy to an instructor, there's talent that needs to be harnessed and refined.
Agreed!
As if being self-taught is somehow not gonna make you good enough? :/!
Sure, some real-life guided instruction/tips can absolutely help when needed, but this already sounded incredible. There's plenty of evidence that there are self-taught (or at least partially self-taught) musicians that already sound great on their respective instrument. You just have to be musically inclined and have the patients to learn and soke in some knowledge. And a lot of the information you need to learn an instrument is right here on UA-cam or other websites; gone are the days where you had to go to an expensive music school or something to learn to play an instrument. This is truly a musical revolution, because learning to play something is no longer limited to wealthy people who could afford an expensive music school or who could hire an instructor for private lessons or whatever; learning to play/make music has truly become more accessible than ever before. This is certainly not to say that this will take away the hours and hours of practice you might need to learn to effectively play your instrument. That time commitment is no less of a requirement than it was before the days of UA-cam and the internet.
And yes, there are people who have UA-cam channels dedicated to teaching bagpipes, in particular. Some of these also do "Zoom" or "Skype" meetings if the beginner bagpiper would like one-on-one instruction if needed. We need to step out of the old way of thinking and onward to the new.
Very talented lad. Do your family proud. Do Scotland and Ireland proud. You will always have a fan here.
Cally O'lonegan So many of us in America are very proud of our Scottish and Irish heritage. And we do keep a special place in our heart for Scottish and Irish homeland of our ancestors/family.
There are literally thousands of child bagpipers, I'm one, my friend was taught by a man who started when he was four.
I know right
Ur cool
Their hands are wrong...
Same here! I started as a seven year old and now as a sixteen year old , I can play the bagpipes!
Yes, when you're at The World's in Glasgow, it's easy to see that there are many talented piper-children, but this is just a local news story. It's certainly not common for 7yo kids to play the pipes at a grade 4 level, at least not in the US. I think the youngest member of our band started PC at 9, and he was ready to compete at 11, and we were all pretty impressed.
I don't know why, but the sound of a bagpipe warms my heart.
Not only warms the heart, but fills your heart with some sense of pride and bravery as well, or maybe it's just me
I was 14 when I started...that was 20 beautiful years ago...still playing...love it.
I was 9 when I started. Now I'm 73 and still playing. This kid will be a wiz in his teens.
I'm extremely happy the see that he plays crosshanded because I learned this way on the practice chanter by mistake and now I know that I can play like this. 👍
That little guy is really good. He's got musical talent and great lung power!
BAGPIPES
SCOTTISH
HE IS NOW SCOTTISH
Aye, I do love it when I see young lads on the pipes.
I'm 10 years old and I play guitar and I think this kid is amazing
Now you’re 16 and you’ve hardly improved.
from a 23 yr old bagpiper, your good luke, stay with it
Frikk yeah! He’s got Stewart blood running through his veins! ☺️
Brings a tear to my eye.
As a former pipe sergeant it’s very impressive as most people take 2-3 years to learn recreational piping, although I learned it six months I was payed to do it and I did everyday for 6 months, this boy could potentially make $400 a day off of street preforming.
Keep up the good work, Luke !
Amazing talent.
Wife throws dad under the bus saying none of us have any musical talent in the family
I got bagpipes for Christmas when I was 13 years old, but I didn't learn how to play them until I was 16.
wow! good for him! I love it! very talented!
WOW, great job lil man! Great job dad for being a great role model & great job all around, on being the family unit that is so much more important than most people today realize. God bless your lil clan 👍🏻🏴🇺🇸🙏
Just got my practice chanter. This kid is motivation!
You go Luke! You're awesome
MOAR power to this lad!!!
I'm 32 and i can't even playing my dying cow bagpipe. lol
Way to go lil man!!🏴 I know your dad is extremely proud of you, heck I'm proud of you & I don't even know you... & Dad your doing a great job too, I know it feels great to be his hero. God bless y'all & keep on piping...🏴🇺🇸
Good lad. Keep it up. When you're older, chicks love the pipes!!!
Awwww how sweet
Love the Bagpipes. My Grandfather originally came from the Orkney Islands North of Scotland. He use to teach the piping and dancing and he also had his own tailor shop in Sudbury ont Where I live.
Wow! That's really impressive!
Cleburne, TX - we are so happy to hear your excellent choice of music. Good & clean!!!! Krum, TX
And he’s got a full set!
hands reversed just like his teacher ( dad); by the time he's 15 he'll be cleaning up the boards in competition....if he gets a high ranked instructor. good stuff!!!
m. achnel Im starting to think that hands reversed is a more natural postureae for playing. Im blind, so Ive never seen how the pipes are played. The first time i picked my practice chanter, I played it hands reversejd just because and ive done it so for the last 4 years! and now im in a band where im the only weirdo who does that. This kid is amazing
Úlff MetalBagpiper99 wait how blind are you
@@abagpiperyoumetinmexico211 hey there, I am legally blind and I’m always excited to meet other folks that have either low vision or no vision that are playing the pipes. Would love to chat!
@@nancyirwin3150 This is interesting, I'm actually blind too! Nice to see a fellow visually impaired person on here :)))
I don't play bagpipes and I don't really have an intention to play them, but they're certainly a very fascinating instrument; how they work is really quite interesting to me. That's an instrument that I've somehow overlooked and forgotten about, but just a few days ago I for some reason decided to learn more about how they work! :))
Out of curiosity, what's your knowledge on bagpipes like? Do you have an understanding of how they work? There are likely some people who don't entirely understand it. And it can be even harder to understand it when your blind.
He’s no longer playing the pipes, he’s switched to playing the drums. His brother Dax plays the pipes
Wooow what a natural talent!
Talented kid.
Well done wee man 🏴
I'm impressed. I asked my aunt and uncle to get me some highland bagpipes for my birthday this coming February. I have Scottish and Irish and accessory in my blood. My ancestor is John Knox and the other one is Henry Knox, the first secretary of war in the general of the artillery during the revolutionary war
This is genuinely cool.
That is brilliant to see at that age
Bagpipe music great to get rid of scammers. ha ha ha
It's important to pass on our heritage to the next generation.
I have piped for over 30 years and started about this age. I hope he gets proper lessons because he could have real potential.
Just like a news channel to report about a kid playing an instrument and then have 3 seconds of footage of him playing it
well done buddy.keep up the great work
Great stuff!
Congratulations 🍾🎊🎈🎉 to Luke
That's awesome! I love the sound of the bagpipes. Keep at it kid 😏👍
What a champ!
interesting how his dad play with right top hand ( very uncommon and may be considered 'incorrect') and the kid ended up also learning right hand top.
Great motivation..... fun to see, that dad and son plays with the hands upside down. Normaly you play with the left hand on top. But hey,- it works. I luv it. Greetings from Denmark
Proud dad. Fit like Great wee loon
Well done
UA-cam videos are very helpful. I've self-taught clarinet techniques using youtube. its great!
Well done wee man. A credit to yer da
Fantastic!!!
bag pipe nobal holds note ahead of the ending to meet a halfway before you know it. in other words takes my breath away, organizes sound what I find helps me is to listen to the baseball charge song just before.. just kidding I've never played the bag pipes but that little Scott makes me dream big an idea full of clouds. and that skirt is top notch
Amazing.
Where is this guy right now should be a pro right now
AUCH Lad...you have touched me heart!!! I'm from Edinburgh and lad, you keep on playing!!! So proud that you picked a Sctoch tradition...I play the pipes too!!! and the best part? I got the red hair, freckles, and the pipes too!!!! VIVA SCOTIA!!
Your from Edinburgh and you dont know Scotch is a whisky..that there is no such thing as a "Scotch" tradition? Honestly the BS is overflowing on this one.
Respekt. Ist schon 7 Jahre her, aber hoffe, er hat heute noch Gefallen dran. Ich liebe Bagpipes. 👍👍👍
Awesome kid.
Always wonder why videos for such a big news org are encoded as interlaced. We're in 2014, there is no reason for interlaced video to exist any more.
SCOTLAND FOREVERRRRRRRR
He’s so brave to speak up in an interview.
Shawty24 so the only thing u comment on is the fact that he spoke in a interview and not the fact that he is in grade 1 and can play bagpipes????
This kid's Scotland bound
I play the bagpipes and there is no way he could learn all that from self teaching
good on him using a straight blowpipe not a bendy one
Literally everyone in scotland:
I wonder if he’s still playing the pipes
Really cool
I'll be MacCrimmon, good on you son help ma blue, bonnets over, the border, keep it up young man doing great
Put him on America’s got talent
He should preform at Edinburgh Castle
yeah, I can see why he's self taught, look at his fingers, there supposed to be opposite, right hand at the bottom and left on the top
Or he is left handed.
That’s funny as we pipers already play left handed, left on top.
I'm a piper and I've seen many pipers play with the hands opposite.
his Dad is doing it wrong as well...
In my opinion, hand placement doesn’t matter as long as he’s comfortable and the notes come out right.
Omg a 7 year old kid can play the bagpipes. Wipdie doo
If its factual, ...it is a big deal. Of course youd not know that unless you ever tried to play them . It takes many years of hard work....a big if,,but very impressive if accurate...Sounds like you have accomplished less than this child has in life and it really bothers you. It'll be Ok jr, start now, and you may make something of yourself yet.
Awesome
If he went out busking he would make three times what his father dose as a fireman
0:52 they are TUNES!!!!
that bagpipe lives scotland
Too cool
Bloody nice pipes!
Also…..
……His hands..… 😳
I. Love. bagpipes
I m. geting. lessons
I've seen it takes very long time before being able to learn bagpipes as first you use a special practicing flute.
Yeah a chanter, not a 'practising flute' 😂
his cool
🥰 awww
You can learn ANYTHING from UA-cam. UA-cam is a very very powerful tool.
well it like this I am proud of you keep playing show them what you are make young piper.
Reeeaaally hard to shock anyone . . with bagpipes.
Don't Worryaboutit i
I love drones :D
um they are playing with their hands upside down
You're probably Australian. Up here, everything probably looks upside down to you. In reality, our hands are just like yours.
Nah, I mean normally you play with the left hand on the top 3 holes, and the right hand on the bottom four holes of the chanter. The kid is playing the other way around.
Johans the great because the bag is on his left and his right hand can't reach that far round
So does his father.
Buddy that’s how I play... I play with my right hand on top left on the bottom and I’m self taught... it’s just what feels right
Great tunes, especially considering his age! I would *strongly* recommend getting an instructor and fixing the backwards hand positioning, however. If Luke is passionate about the pipes and dreams of competing one day, he's going to have to have his left hand on top or the judges won't have him.
I noticed his dad also played left hand down.
Is he still playing?
