- In summer of 2023, for the first time in over a decade, the production company did not shoot Bering Sea Gold for Discovery. So I lost my job.
On top of losing my job I had to make an emergency $100,000 upgrade to the dredge and work with a completely inexperienced crew.

One of my favorite parts of the show was 'Social Hour with Vernon'. Next season, if you continue to do this along side your operation, you should team up with him for some of those. It was so funny to see him go off on rude social media questions after a drink or two.

A lot of TV shows are poor compared to UA-cam etc...look at Storage Wars the show was entertaining but compared to the real buyers who buy lockers sell the things they find and post on UA-cam the show is just terrible...

My favorite show on tv is Bering sea gold. I love it. Can’t wait for new ones. Hopefully Vern has years left and u too. But the Kelly’s are the show. Watching them screw up year after year is so fun to watch. Good

It was fun to show a side of mining we never get to share - preseason!
I had an Uncle build his own houseboat, and he literally fabricated EVERYTHING structural in that beast. I remember watching him, the 'Adults' talking about things, and one thing that always stuck with me is, he KNEW BETTER than to build the pontoons as a single cavity. ONE hole/breach, and the entire apparatus is compromised, and the danger of flipping/sinking guaranteed unless you're damned lucky.
I love how you're incorporating this strategy, AND using portions for extra storage/ballast! Outstanding!
Wish I were a few decades younger, when I was still in good shape (USMC Veteran here). I've watched BSG since it began, and you folks are my special blend of ambitious, driven, and crazy!

I watched the show for 4-5 years but lost track of it. I'm glad to have stumbled upon your new YT channel/show. I recently visited Lead, S.D. I didnt get to visit the Homestake mine but the being around so many gold mines made me think of BSG. I even had a portable sluice in my Amazon cart but haven't pulled the trigger. One day I'll be hiking mountain creeks giving it a whirl. Until then I'll enjoy watching the pros in Nome! Thanks for sharing your journey with us.

Sad to see "I lost my job".. but like I was saying on the July "getaway", there was a writer's strike on much of the Summer, which could explain production hiatus. Whatever ends up happening, you'll come out on top!
All unscripted tv is non-union, so it wasn't the strike! It was just a business decision to take a summer and ice season off. Expect to see it back on the air. Thanks Steve!
@@TheEmilyRiedelEverything Mike Rowe says is scripted.. Also, for a while, the production crew union was on walkout in sympathy with the writers. And, I just learned yesterday, there was some corporate merger/acquisition/shellGame stuff happening between "22 and "23. Also, Vernon recently commented somewhere that all the non-human Original Productions assets remain in Nome.. and also, if the show wasn't consistently profitable, one of the first signs (for me) that OP was ramping it down, would be them deciding to find a less costly narrator voice than Mike Rowe.
Botto. line is that I know nothing, but I'm grasping at every hint or clue I can find to hold onto belief that there will be more BSG made in the future.
Until then, I have more thoughts I'll send in SMS..

I repaired Lincoln Welders at Norfolk Naval Shipyard many years ago. I rewound the generator part. The diesel engines were repaired if needed by the engine shop. These welders were really old because I was working from 1974 to '79 before transfering to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. I repaired a couple when working for the Washington State Ferry system at Eagle Harbor,Bainbridge Is. They are great welders as well as a back up generator with inverters for AC.

Love your build and the dredge
Looks like good quality fab work. From the leaks I saw there appeared to be galvanic corrosion which is the weak link about aluminum in salt water an (electrolyte). Make sure your electrical is properly isolated from the hull, don’t use household electrical components since they crossover the white / neutral wire and be sure to use the right anodes instal a galvanic isolator, never put bronze or brass on aluminum, isolate connections to steel even stainless. Once again good call on the oversized pontoons and good fab work.

Commenting because this popped up on my recommended and I actually know why. I've been building a character for a Fallout based TTRPG and had my character spend a lot of time in Nome and Anchorage. This was all just for backstory stuff, he was a wandering robot and I just so happened to have him spend time in those places more than others. As such, I did a little bit of research about the areas and I think that ticked something into recommending this channel. Which, I just so happen to like this kind of content, think I watched shows on TV that had very similar premises(Making a living off the coast of Alaska looking for gold), real interesting stuff! Like the content so far :) GL to y'all endeavors.
Personally, I think what you are doing here is better anyways. Bering Sea Gold was just too full of drama.... I stopped watched a few years ago because of it. I look forward to seeing how you contune this web series!

Personally I find the Kelley's a bit much. Maybe it is because they always seem to be arguing but I, personally, am over them.
@@barbarachambers7974What really made me mad about the Kellys is their mining Shawn’s claim as if they have the right to do so! Saying, he doesn’t own the whole ocean! Not until they started claim jumping had they been mining considerable amounts. They pissed off Shawn considerably too!

ive watched this show from episode one i remember when emily was just a tender for zeek and remember her diving and getting her arm sucked in the dredge pipe it scared her to death and thats when she realised she needed to be captain its great to see how far she has come from the early days upto now im a big fan of emilys shes amazing
