    It's NOT just about strength. I work at a hospital and nurses often have a hard time cutting tape with their fingers. Similar phenomena happened on Eddie Hall's Card. Safe to assume Eddie is doing it the wrong way similar to the Nurses at my work. If you hold the tape the wrong way, it will stretch. This is exactly what's happening with the deck of card.

      But your way of explaining it by comparing to tape is actually really good.
      The best explanation I could think of to explain it was your hands needing to be close together to get the initial rip started because if not the paper will be too flexible and not want to rip..
      After the initial tear, the rest gives relatively easily.

    • @mvpmickey1
      @mvpmickey1 Рік тому +5

      @@feetishfriend9624 Also, the force needs to be at the end of the object, not the middle.
      _People do not realise there is a difference between breaking and tearing._
      If you grip the tape in the middle, your just stretching it. However if you grip at the end, it will tear.
      I do the same with those dual alcohol swabs. Half is used to sterilize skin you're poking, other is to clean the blood off. I have the habit of tearing a big pile of alcohol swabs for fun.

    Playing cards using raw strength is tough, but there's a slight technique that can be used to turn it into a party trick - apply pressure inwards to bend the deck as to separate all the cards (so front bends forward, back bends backwards and all the cards in between get a slight bend with a bit of space between each card and the next), and rip through that - much easier with the gaps, and the same tekkers applies to ripping phonebooks in half too, makes it easy enough for regular blokes to do -- notice how matey in the vid starts the tear off by pushing the two phonebooks into his leg, I'd wager it's to apply some of this technique to double-duct-taped phonebook! (plus he's a beast anyway)

    It's not only the technique and pain thresholds. The size of the hands, fingers and wrists are also very important for grip strength. A smaller hand with shorter fingers simply won't get the same "torque" as a bigger hand with bigger fingers.
    Also the strength itself is more of static/isometric type than when lifting a weight in a dynamic way. A static non moving force have to be overcome and then something gives off to bend very slowly, which is something different compared to normal lifting. Also to be able to hold that static force for many seconds (static endurance) in kind of the same position when the object is bending slowly is very different to lifting a weight.

    I can say first hand, finger strength and hand strength take years of build up and to do some of the things this guy was also made me question some things. As a former machinist, and carpenter hammers don't bend like that and neither do wrenches, they would just snap after a certain degree of bend due to the type of steel they are made from... I've broken many wrenches and cheap hammers in my day lol

    • @Tbear93
      @Tbear93 8 місяців тому

      Yeah, the vast majority of these are fake for clicks. There are very strong people that can do amazing feats, but the hammers/wrenches and phone books are very telling. As you said they will just break and not bend like that, they've probably been super heated to destroy the hardening effects of their initial heat treatment. The phone book is obviously tampered with because they don't rip in a straight like that. It's essentially adding strength to a magic trick.

    The tape and phone book thing definitely impressive but the tape was wrapped to keep the pages together then turned and ripped the way anyone would separate a piece from the roll. Also the gaps in the tap made it easier to rip. Dudes grip strength is still insane to be able to rip a phone book in half

    There is strength involved here but also technique is key here
