Wow! What a fantastic fight! I have heard about Cung Le but never watched any of his fights until today. Now my wish is satisfied. I am to watch all his fights against the other big fighters of MMA. Cung Le has proven himself to be an excellent kick-boxer and a champion boxer. He trained hard in many types of martial arts such as: tea-kwon-do, wrestling, kickboxing, sanshou etc.…When Jason Yee’s introductory clip is shown, I think to myself “Oh man! Le will have a tough fight. Yee seems hard to deal with“. However, as soon as in the 1st round Yee looked like a new learner practicing martial arts with his coach. He is kept being punched, got take-down several times by Cung Le, a well experienced boxer. BRAVO CUNG LE! You’re one of the Vietnamese nation’s prides. Let the world know and admire us, the Vietnamese. Many thanks to VO THUAT TINH HOA channel.

Jason Yee & Cung Le were both Sanchou Champs at different times. They are both respectable fighters. In this video however Cung Le were physically and technically way ahead of Jason Yee. That was in 1997 when Cung Le was only 25. He is now a 44 years old man.

the amateur sanshou tournament that was held in this same hotel, just before this procard was a lot tougher. There were well over a hundred full contact fights held in a 2 day period with people from 15 different nations. Cung Le won a bronze at the world championships at 176 lbs, but there was a guy who won 176 gold world medal in the amateur division as well as lots of other honorable mentions. Cung le is not a Vietcong ' son, do not think every Vietnamese is Vietcong, the Vietnamese people who live in the USA since the fall of Saigon in 30/4/1975 are the people who lived in the south of 17th parallel under the Republic of Viet Nam which was a non communist nation under free market and capitalism, and Cung Le was born in Saigon the capital of the Republic of Viet Nam, Cung Le is the son of the Vietnamese people who did not like the Communist that is why his family fled to USA in 1975, he was one of the refugee or boat people since 1975 onward.

Brian from your surname it seems you may be from that part of the world so I'm surprised you suggest that the South Vietnamese totally supported the US backed regime there. The Vietcong were made up largely from guerrillas recruited from the local south Vietnamese communities. That's what made them so difficult to wage war on.

Sharpeyed Watcher; its like trying to claim that the southern half of America did not fully support President Trump. You probably watched Ken Burns PBS special and now going to educate others about a war that lasted over 2 decades. Do you know how many hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese died at sea trying to flee Communism? My grandparents were hung by the same dumb farmers they paid wages to. My father and millions of others fled to the south. My father and relatives were in re-education camps for 4-5 years because they were teachers or in the military.
What made it difficult for the US to win the war was the media and protests. But I agree, it was a costly war. I am grateful to be a US Citizen as who knows what would come of me and my family if we stayed in Vietnam.

Cung Le responds by knocking him upside his head, then Yee counters with not one but two off balance lame ass lefts, then tries to escape the corner and does...but not before Le pops him upside his dome again! 18:53. They are both American. Jason Yee is ethnically Chinese and born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. Cung Le is ethnically Vietnamese. He was born in Vietnam and came to America as a small child during the Vietnam War as a refugee (he and his mother escaped the country days before the fall of Saigon under gunfire). They are both San Shou fighters. San Shou uses techniques from traditional Chinese Kung Fu styles and is used by the Chinese military. In sport form it resembles Kickboxing and allows throws. Cung Le has trained in different forms of Martial Arts. He started out at a school run by a Vietnamese master who taught him Kung Fu and Tae Kwon Do. He has trained in Muay Thai as well. He also has a background in amateur wrestling. He said in an interview that he competed in San Shou because he liked the rules.
So Cung Le knows multiple striking disciplines and uses techniques from different Martial Arts. I don't know if he knows any animal styles but his fighting style is based on practicality and he likes using flashy techniques to make the fight more exciting. He has said in interviews and told me personally that he thinks Traditional Martial Arts are a good base for combat sports but that he doesn't like forms as they are hard to memorize and have no practical use.

The problem with Chinese Shaolin kungfu thatJason learned in China is not a practical martial art. It looks good on movies and shows because lots of acrobatic movements. Can make you tired and weak quickly. Horse stance is a joke because in a fight you don't stand like a statue with legs wide open and say hey, I have my balance.

There are a lot of difference between the Vietnamese people who lived in the South of Vietnam and the people who lived in the North of Vietnam before 30/4/1975. The Northerner were the Communist and the Southerner were The Nationalist or Capitalist.

    • @francisdao5019

Northerners were not communist. They were Northern Vietnamese people. The communist were a political party. Political view point. NOT Northern Vietnamese or Southern Vietnamese.

You can really tell Jason is not meant to be fighting at this new and higher weight class. Cung is much more comfortable at his own weight while Jason looks sluggish and uncomfortable. Cung is more like an unmovable rock comfortable with his weight. Cung explained it perfectly and both were great sportsmens. I have to give Jason credit for having the courage to come out of retirement to fight a younger and strong man who is in his prime but Cung was clearly dominant from start to finish.

Kung Fu is a term used for Chinese Martial Arts which includes many different styles. San Shou is a combat sport developed by the Chinese military that combines Traditional Martial Arts techniques with modern training. So it's basically Kickboxing with throws but kickboxing itself combines punches from boxing and kicks from Martial Arts.
I have the full event on VHS which is where I got this fight. The event includes different aspects of Kung Fu including forms, weapons and full-contact fights under San Shou rules.
