    Assuming it takes as much distance to stop the pod as to accelerate it to 192mph, that gives it roughly 716 feet to reach that top speed, and then decelerate. in other words, this pod feats a 0-192mph in as little as 3 seconds. That's pretty impressive if you ask me (acceleration of about 28m/s² and a force of 2.92G!). Yet the "Do-Dodonpa" roller-coaster in Fujiyoshida, Japan beats it by a small margin (32.1m/s² or a force of 3.27G) with a staggering 0-111.9mph in 1.8 seconds. For comparison, jet pilots start to black out at 4G in 6-7 seconds, and get into G-LOC (Loss of Consciousness) at 5G in roughly 5 seconds. Needless to say riding the Hyperloop will be close to the best roller coaster experience ever! Can't wait... :p

      Not necessarily its all down to how the magnetics are used. I'd imagine the passenger pods will accelerate much slower but for the test they wanted to show off a fast speed and in a 1000 metre track distance so to do that they had to ramp up acceleration which for a maglev and in a near vacuum is easy. Its impressive to say the least but purely for show and necessity due to test track limitations. Next phase will be to build a proper test loop to have a longer test i'd say.

      That assumption is wrong, they can accelerate at 2g then decelerate at 4G.

    It will never be a mass transport system. A few will be built but they will just be show pieces, like Concord it will never replace the existing systems.
    Imagine the cost of it compared to a high speed rail track. A tube strong enough to contain a vacuum 100s of miles long, air pumps constantly working, because it could never be completely airtight, elaborate safety, rescue and evacuation systems and the manpower and transport to get to suffocating passengers if there was a breakdown. The new terminals with airlocks to get passengers in and out of the pods. Pods which hold say 40 passengers, as opposed to trains which hold hundreds.
    It''l never catch on!!

    In a tube, how many pods could travel at one time? How far apart would they have to be? If you have 50 people in a pod, and there is capacity for 10 pods, that means there are 500 people moving at any given moment. That would be good for high density routes.

    Does it levitate? If so, what if I chose to start jumping inside, will it hit the rails then bounce up and down and create a catastrophic crash scenario? Or, will you have to be inside it with belts that don't allow you to move, like you're some mental patient? I don't know, I am still waiting to see this working as a real transportation system.

    How can we hear it in (near)vacuum?

    • @achpeesinternado3857
      @achpeesinternado3857 7 років тому +13

      Good question!
      This is a common misconception about Hyperloops. They operate at low pressure not vacuum. There is some sound as long as there are enough particles there. I don't know what pressure they're operating at on the Hyperloop One, but on the original Hyperloop white paper it states that the expected pressure of the tube would be about 0.015 PSI (for reference, average atmospheric pressure is about 14.7 PSI). Also, and this is just a hypothesis on my part, the fact that the cameras are mounted physically onto the tube or the vehicle might also contribute to the microphone recording those vibrations as sound as well (I'd be curious to hear what someone with more knowledge of this might say). Regarding air though, another reason it needs some air in the tube is that after it is "launched" with the electromagnetic "rail gun" system the vehicle is then kept afloat in the tube by an onboard air cushion system (kind of like the way an air hockey table keeps the puck afloat). This makes it so that only the beginning of the tube needs power as well as some small sections along the way to keep it at speed.

    • @FidelCoelho

      Is not a totaly vacuum... its a very low presure.

    • @justynpryce
      @justynpryce 7 років тому

      Sound can also travel through solids aswell, as long as there are vibrations.

    • @kelaarin
      @kelaarin 7 років тому +2

      The original white paper proposed an air-suspension system - with a turbine on the front of the train sucking in the low-pressure air and using it as suspension by means of air jets on the train undercarriage. This was scrapped early on in development in favor of a passive maglev propulsion/suspension system, which would be easier to prototype.

    • @GuruEvi

      They didn't pull a vacuum, they put the pod in the thing, closed the door and launched it a second later. You're looking at ~6-24h depending on the size of the pump to pull a true vacuum on this thing.

    • @MentalParadox
      @MentalParadox 7 років тому +8

    • @tartarus1322
      @tartarus1322 7 років тому +1

      yes but if the tube curves the capsule isn't exactly on a track so wouldn't it crash or some other similar event?

    • @julzzian2789

      Tartarus13 it goes straight dumbass

    • @anthonylennon8331
      @anthonylennon8331 7 років тому +1

      Tartarus13 the rail is a single tail which is then surrounded on three sides by the magnetic system on the pod. The magnetics control the vertical and lateral movement of the pod as well as the forward motion. Any corner encountered will result in the pod following the track view the video as the pod is being loaded into the tube. At time 1.18 you can see the shape of the rail in the base of the pod which also demonstrates how small the pods will be which begs the question how many people will fit in each and where will the luggage go

    • @tartarus1322
      @tartarus1322 7 років тому +2

      I know it goes straight but how will it go places where it can't get to by just going straight. If the tube needs to change direction to get to the desired location how will the capsule change direction at the same time

    So, this proves that mag-lev technology works in a tube. That's cool, I guess. Of course, we already knew that it would.
    But if we're going to make a REAL "hyperloop", this tube has to be depressurized, and it hasn't been shown that a structure like this, above ground, is feasible for the level of vacuum they're trying to create for this thing. That's why having it built underground (and thus, the real purpose of "The Boring Company") makes a lot more sense.

    This will always be a transport system for the elite, like Concrode used to be for flight, due to cost, small passenger numbers, track installation costs and quantity of energy required to create and maintain the vacuum. Most developed countries already have electrified, high speed, cheap, mass transport travelling at over 160kph and some up to 320kph
