This is a massive dance anthem and paved the way for a lot of dance to come.
If you are not into dance music then this will wash over you, but if you are and it came on in a club back in the day the room would be bouncing and the party begin.
Try some ABBA that isn't disco or dance or just out and out pop such as name of the game or Eagle or one of their many other hits.

This is a really good song, together with “The Name Of The Game” my favourites. It will grow on you. That detail at the end with the keyboard playing a Bach-like improvisation, very nice.

A separate comment, to guide you on the songs you heard from ABBA
Dancing Queen (1976/77) is his biggest world hit
Gimme gimme gimme (1979) grew many years later by sampling Madonna for her big hit Hung up
    and finally this
Lay all your love on me (1980/81) was a third single
Somehow they follow a disco line
(although Dancing Queen is much more pop than disco)
but ABBA is much more versatile than this genre of music
If you want to discover and be surprised by ABBA, start by taking the nine #1 singles that ABBA had in the UK, there are the best and most varied (Dancing queen was the fourth of them)
and also other extraordinary songs that were not #1 in the UK but were world hits, such as "S.O.S." "Money money money" "Chiquitita" (this is the biggest hit in all of Latin America)
the songs of ABBA have to be listened to many times to discover how intricate they are and the musical and vocal richness they have
and finally, but the most important, Thanks for the honesty on the reaction!
you can like it more or less, is all about the taste and opinion
(like I, that I'm not a big fan of these song, but a big fan of ABBA)

With well over 100 ABBA songs not everyone will like every song. However, I cannot think of a BAD ABBA song and every one has either been an instant hit for me or has grown on me. I honestly cannot say that of every song by any other artist. Many of their songs I have enjoyed the singing, the melody and the sound without properly taking in the lyrics. Once you do, wow!

I think that ABBA has weak or regular songs, and a few bad ones
And in fact, they themselves say that they are ashamed of having recorded some songs
Which is not a bad thing, since ABBA is not perfect
The Beatles have been unmatched, and they also have their regular or weak songs, and some bad ones.
And that is not going to detract from the immeasurable legacy of The Beatles before, and of ABBA now.

-Hello , have a good day, so nice to see you return with more ABBA songs
"Lay all your love on me" (1980)
It is part of the album "Super Trouper" and it was their third single in 1981, the first in 12" format,
it was #7 in UK Charts and #1 in US Dance Charts
"Lay all your love on me"
takes up in an isolated way the disco style left by his previous album "Voulez Vous"
It has an extraordinary production, especially for voices and choirs
It's pretty good (7pts), but it doesn't appeal to me as much as other ABBA songs.
I admit that personally I don't like 'disco sound' that much
Still, in this disco genre, I like them a little more:
"If it wasn't for the nights" (ABBA's best disco track)
    Summer Night City
    As good as new
    Voulez Vous
    Gimme gimme gimme
This is the one I like the least (with "I have a dream")
of the 20 Top10 that ABBA has in the UK
This explain highly of sublime quality of ABBA's most successful singles
    (between 7.5pts / 10pts)
In your time ABBA did not have an official video
(like for "The winner takes all", "Super trouper" and "Happy new year",
this last one in Spanish too)
But in this historic return of ABBA it became more important,
because it is included (with shocking futuristic images) in the setlist of the new Voyage concerts,
and was also chosen for the new official lyric videos that ABBA is launching this year,
that is the new lyrics videos with more views
Thanks again for bringing ABBA's music
and hope to continue with more ABBA
I wish you a happy weekend
    Kind regards from
    Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷

  • @davemac1197
    @davemac1197 Рік тому +10

Not one of their best probably, but I regard this as one of their most 'Scandinavian' sounding songs. Lay All Your Love On Me was originally not intended to be released as a single from the Super Trouper album in 1980, but a remixed version was apparently popular in nightclubs, so it was decided to release it. It charted at #8 in Ireland and #7 in the UK, so I presume it was popular in the nightclubs in those countries! Surprisingly only got to #68 in Sweden.
I agree with Cheryl and John Lennon that S.O.S. was probably their best - who am I to disagree with Cheryl? The ultimate in the Scandi sound in my opinion would probably be Eagle - one of my favourites. I'm also very partial to Summer Night City, with a video that featured scenes of the nightlife in Stockholm for some atmosphere.

ABBA is together with The Beatles and Queen the most versitale group in music history. ABBA is goat of pop (not just disco) I would say, has sold around 500 M albums. I don’t think any women has sold more albums than Agneta and Frida as leadsingers, so yes. 🎉 Second most popular song they have got after Dancing Queen? Well, It’s so many - maybe Gimme, Gimme, Gimme like you heard earlier or The Winner Takes It All and Fernando. Chiquitita, Take A Chance On Me, Knowing Me Knowing You and SOS are in the same level I think. Atleast 50 more bangers and this one is good and grows. My personal favorite is the romantic R&B-sounding The Name Of The Game. By the Way - check them in LIVE aswell, excellent, no autotune those days. Good luck digging in this excellent treasure of music. ❤
