    I believe you could use really thin wires to wrap around the battery to make a **"Faraday Cage"** That should block any Magnetic lines and RF signals from leaving or entering the battery. People use this to protect them in Lightning shows with giant tesla coils. Someone should give it a try, You would need very little wire, just a couple lines around each side

      I wish, I've tried everything, but this is the only thing that has worked. Originally, a really tall tower was needed. I continued testing until I found this height is the minimum needed. Happy it still fits into the storage box and backpack carrier.

    Can you please tell me what exactly are blocking the gps signal from above in the first place ? If this is about interference, it's because of the compass and magnetic interference many builds like to put the whole module on a mushroom. If your bird is 20ft up in the air, moving the antenna 1/2 inch higher gives you more sats ? I don't belive it. But I do believe wiggle around and tugging on wires might help a bad connecton. If you're lucky.

      The GPS compass adapter stand was originally made due to the compass, that's also contained in the GPS module. It made a night and day change to being able to use the battery adapter I also designed (battery adapter sold on eBay). Without using this GPS Compass adapter stand, flying using an alternate battery would be erratic and unstable.
      Using the adapter allows all batteries to work without erratic behavior.
      But, as often is found there are other side effects.
      The side effect found was that using this GPS Compass adapter dramatically speed up the time it takes to aquire enough satellites to be able to start the motors and begin flying. It also increases the number of satellites the drone locks onto. Now for the exact scientific reason we are unsure. I believe that for the compass the reason for the improved is due to getting father away from magnetic interference from inside the drone. For the GPS improvement I believe it is due to getting further away from electronic or radio noise, but I can't be sure exactly how it creates the improvement, I can only see the improvement in initial time it takes to lock onto enough satellites to become ready for take off, and the total number of satellites it locks onto is also increased.

    Have you (or anybody else) tried putting some aluminum foil under the GPS module, before screwing it in to your adapter? Wouldn't this help shield the GPS module from battery or other interference even more? Thanks!

    • @amphibiousmotorcycle
      @amphibiousmotorcycle  3 роки тому

      Would be hard to test "shielding even more".
      One person had trouble with a battery he was using that apparently wasn't shielded when he bought it.
      It wouldn't calibrate his compass with the unshielded battery.
      Very rare to purchase an unshielded battery.
      He added shielding to his battery and it fixed his problem.

    What brand of battery? I tried a turnigy 8000 but it would not slide in without force

    • @amphibiousmotorcycle
      @amphibiousmotorcycle  3 роки тому +1

      Go with lower than 8000mah batteries.
      Most of the 8000mah are really tight fits, but they still works at least.
      If you can find batteries with the hard shell, most of the time they are perfect fit.
      Also don't get caught up looking for higher mah batteries.
      I believe a5400mah flies just as long since it is lighter. Focus on 5000mah to 7000mah.
      Shop for battery price and don't pay more thinking you might get longer flight times with heavier batteries.
      This adapter will keep your Typhoon H flying years after they stop making propriatory batteries for it.

      @@amphibiousmotorcycle thankyou for your reply. Good advice. I got the H for $500 with 3 batteries and 2 st16. Flight time is 15 min and it has to go longer that just seems really bad. I got the adapter and the gps hood yet to install. Yes the 8000 was so tight the labels would peel and i thought to never pull it back out! So time to look around more. Hobbyking has been a good place for lipo purchases know of any others?
      Thanks again!!!

    • @amphibiousmotorcycle
      @amphibiousmotorcycle  3 роки тому

      8000mah is the one battery that fits super tight. Brands change all the time. The market has stabilized and has settled on a hard shell standard that fits perfectly. Get batteries between 5000mah and 7500mah with hard shell and you will be very happy. But for now continue to use your 8000mah, since it does work, only it's a pain with the tight fit.

      It will not work with the Q500.
      I do have an adapter designed for the Q500 available on eBay.
      The Q500 does not require a GPS tower adapter to be installed to use alternate batteries with the battery adapter.

    Sorry but I did both of these mods and I started getting compass calibration warnings and magnetic interference warnings constantly. I tryed the factory battery and it doesn't happen. I added aluminum foil to the back of the battery to cover the wires and grounded it to shield the magnetic field coming from the 6000mAh battery, wires and adapter. And then it stopped getting the warnings. But I'm now dropping satellites and going to manual mode back and forth to GPS mode. So I now I have another problem to figure out........ The factory battery is shielded from interference.... And doesn't cause lose of the GPS signal.

    • @daletec
      @daletec 4 роки тому +1

      I did figure out how to stop all interference for the compass and the GPS errors using any size battery that fits. The battery has to be completely covered, wire and all except the balance plug with aluminum foil or aluminum duct tape. I've tested it thoroughly. I get 20 satellites at least and no compass errors at all. So even cover the 2 wires on the adaptor from front to the back to stop the interference. Apparently the battery and the adaptor unshielded is creating an electrical field during discharge, that's causing both problems. Even losing GPS Satellites. I am a certified tech. Trouble shooter. So this modification is a good one as long as you wrap the battery and adaptor wires. Thanks

      @@daletec Yes that makes sense, a lot of amps through those two main wires, of course they'll have a hefty magnetic field. I'd think it only influenced the compass, though - but I believe your experimental results. I went out a little hard on this video, cause I didn't believe he get more sats moving the gps 1/2 inch, and I still don't. And it's not fair to claim you should buy something from him if it doesn't do what he says it will. Because I and every H owner have experimental proof that it works perfect as it is, and the gps lost! error is something that suddenly occurs, after years of perfect reception(more sats than my DJI's actually), that this antenna mod won't fix as he says it will in this vid. But in connection with his battery mod, it seems it has a purpose...really strange he don't answer you. Cause you absolutely make sense and understood this. Bad for buisness if he gets it right ?

      Sorry for such a late reply here. I haven't heard of this issue. Seems to me there is something different about the battery you are using. I have used 6 different types of batteries and haven't ran into this issue. I can guess the batteries I have used were shielded at the factory and maybe the battery you are using is missing the normal shielding. I'm only guessing here.

  • @happyfox711
    @happyfox711 3 роки тому

    How do you explain all the H's that work perfect in their original state - receiving 20+ sats without wrecking the beautiful top shell ? How do they all of a sudden stop working after months and years, and get the dreaded GPS lost! etc. errors ? Don't say this will fix it, it worked just perfect without it, until one day it didn't-

    • @amphibiousmotorcycle
      @amphibiousmotorcycle  3 роки тому

      I hope you can locate a new GPS compass module. It sounds like yours is going bad. Sadly it's getting very hard to find parts for this drone. This adapter will not fix your issue if it is as you described. Once you resolve your initial issue this adapter will improve your performance. This adapter is needed before you attempt to use any alternative battery using the battery adapter that I sell on ebay.

    You tell me the GPS extender fits in the case and neglect to say the BATTERY CONVERTER does not fit!Thanks for the "Heads Up" That the adapter doesnt fit in the case and will break in the worst possible spot, then you see that it was going to break anyway cause it was printed hollow! maybe 2% infill. You wouldnt print an ugly keychain like that and ** this part should be solid! ** . It holds the battery in the drone! You should at least tell your customers before they try and put their drone back in its case! Im going to try and tack it together with super glue then pour a bunch of epoxy resin around it and maybe that will work but idk, theres only 1 mm of plastic to hold a 2 lb battery in a drone going 45 mph! Sounds like alot of Typhoons will be falling from the sky
