Anesthesia sedation: What to expect
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 жов 2018
- Some procedures do not require full anesthesia. In these cases, sedation is used to keep you comfortable and relaxed during your procedure. You may be aware or have memories of a procedure done under sedation, and this is normal. In some cases, it is necessary to change from sedation to full general anesthesia.
After your procedure, you will be taken to the recovery area where a nurse will monitor you as you continue to emerge from anesthesia. Do not make any important decisions for at least 24 hours after any type of anesthesia.

Just had surgery today under general anesthesia. I was extremely worried about being unconscious. When I woke up,I did not remember a thing. I was under for over two hours. But it felt like five minutes to me. My surgery went extremely well, and I would tell anyone who is getting surgery not to worry at all. I felt like it was the best sleep of my life. 😊
I’m going in to surgery in 2 days kinda scared Of getting put to sleep
I was happy after my surgery 🤣 like dang yall gave me a sleeping boost
@@israelsantos4359 how was it
Best nap I ever took
Thank you for the assurance!

Gary the Snail of course i dont

Did u?
Same🥺
I personally remember feeling quite emotional, tired and discomfort. I was so tired when the nurse gently woke me up but I remember being comforted because she was singing "Over the Rainbow". I'm not sure if she was sing to me or to herself but it made me feel safe.
Aw that’s sweet
i know those fellings all to well and thats sweet what she did
Awwwwwwwwww 😍
That's beautiful
Awww
I just had a surgery under general anesthesia and all i want to say was i was extremely worried before like not even caring for the actual surgery itself and all i can say is that it is an extremely easy experience. I got into the operating room very nervous and I remember then telling me to breath from the mask and i just kept repeating the word sleep in my head and the next second im in recovery. They had told me i would have burning in my arm as they were injecting the medication but it wasnt anything like that it was actually a nice feeling sort of like a little buzz going up the arm and then out. Nothing else. So if your going under anesthesia anytime soon trust me, do not worry because it is very easy. I hope this helps!
That’s exactly what happens to me lol i was terrified but all that happened was I closed my eyes for one second and the next I was awake in the recovery room and asking when I was getting the surgery but I was already over! Haha
@@brooke4608 did you say anything innapropiate or something? That's what i am afraid of xd
I was asleep for an 8 hour surgery
Yeah it helps I might get surgery Monday . It’s my first time 💯
Thankyou

It was amazing right!!! :D ... I was knocked out three times before.. The sensation of knocking out in seconds... lol
How did it go?
I hope everything turns out ok
I know this was awhile ago but I’ve had 18 of them well somewhere between 18 and 20 you’ll be fine as I expect you were
Omg me too...tomorrow morning🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
I am about to get my gallbladder removed this coming Saturday and what I am frightened about is me being put to sleep. Watching this and seeing all the comments made me cry and happy and less scared. Thank you so much for this video and thank you to all the people who shared their experiences.
I have a lot to say as I watch all these medical procedures and see all the different diseases and ailments. Like tumors or cancer etc , I pray healing in jesus name for everyone on here may they all be receive the miraculous touch from are savior . Amen

I’m actually horrified of being willfully put down, even if temporary. I’m very grateful that we can have surgeries and opportunities not previously afforded to us, but still. I can’t seem to shake my apprehension and fear of surgery. Even if it meant life and death.
Thank you all for the work you all do.
I've had several surgeries. It's by far the best sleep you'll ever experience tbh. I don't know about anyone else. I don't dream when under. You'll wake up feeling weak & still extremely tired after a while you'll be wide awake though
@@DedraAmbroseandSnow As someone who used to be insanely scared of being put to sleep, I can vouch for everything you said. Had my appendectomy done recently and one second I’m lying on the OR table staring at the ceiling and at all the medical professionals around me, next second I wake up in the recovery room. It’s sorta like fast travel in a video game lol
Same here and I want to get tummy tuck...
I am as well! Always been a fear of mine! But next week I have no choice to be out under for a procedure to avoid cancer! I’m sooo terrified 😭😭
@@dawnwaters544 how did that go? Hopefully everything is okay.
First thing I said after coming out of anesthesia and opening my eyes...
Me: *sees nurse with long blonde hair* “Wow your hair is gorgeous!”
Nurse: “Aww, thanks dear. That’s so nice of you to say!”
*Doctor walks in*
Me: *giggling*
Doctor: “Glad to see you’re feeling well.”
Me: *still giggling* “Hehe, Doctor, I’m sorry but did you know you’re bald?!” 🤦🏼♀️
At least the nurse was laughing.
I'm wondering, are you consious of what you're saying? Like can you control it or is your filter gone?
Megacon I think it depends how much they give you
Otaku Cat I think it’s similar to being drunk

this is really great, im going under the knife in a couple weeks for thyroid cancer and ive never been put under anesthesia before, this is a great eye opener
MrWax I hope your surgery went well❤️
How are you now? How do you feel?
hope ur all good
Don’t leave us hanging how are you doing?
How was it?
Got my endoscopy yesterday. Very nervous was on the verge of tears and breathing erratically. GI doctor even said "you're nervous aren't you" I said yes and bit down on the mouth piece. Next thing I knew I was in the recovery room. ANESTHESIA IS NOT THAT SERIOUS. I literally freaked out all day because of it and it was very peaceful.
We are glad you're doing well.
General and sedation are 2 different things...General is the scariest..endo are usually sedation...
I plan to do a colonoscopy and am terrified of being under sedation. I heard that it isn't too bad, and you won't remember, but I am still terrified to be in that state.
I have a fear of anesthesia awareness 😰
Sky Barry me too, and im having surgery next week 😔
simplyhails good luck! I hope it goes well
dont be when i was having surgery it made it alot scarier but i just fell asleep fine!
I have a fear of ivs
simplyhails mine is on march 2nd
I remember after my procedure I was still kinda out of it, I told the nurse I had to go potty, she said she'd help. I very seriously told her that I do this all the time by myself at home. She said I must be fun to go out with when I've had a few drinks.
Why do I find myself watching these video's?
Cz they're so cool
Left 5 minutes ago and felt great. If your scared don’t be. It’s like nothing ur up and then your out in a total of like ten seconds. GREAT EXPERIENCE 🤩🤩
We're glad to hear you had a great experience. Best wishes to you.
If anyones afraid of general anaesthetic, don't be, its definitely in the top 10 naps of my life and 1000x better than just an epidural and being fully awake, trust me.
Its pretty easy. When I had surgery, they put a mask on my face, and then told me to breathe. There were a lot of doctors in the room, which made me feel safe. They then told me to count back from ten, and when I reached 8, I woke up in the recovery room.
Yeah it’s kinda weird how your hearing crashes and lags right? And fingers loose feeel
I’m scared for mine
I didn’t even get to start my countdown 😭
I had my very first op last week and I was a nervous wreck, fearing that I would wake up during my procedure or feeling the pain. I kid you not, it felt as if I was in theatre for 2 minutes because I was OUT and next thing I’m waking up in the recovery room. It really amazes me how it works!
We're thinking of you, Britney.
I remember being put under.
One minute I was there, the next minute I wasn't.
Luan Loud Fan how long did it feel like you were under? I have a horrible gag reflex and I’m having to be put under for getting a cap on my back tooth. I just want it to go by fast 😂
Did you dream?
Snuckable when i was put under i didnt dream, if that helps any.
SamuelPiece if this info is still relevant to you, they gave me some stuff throught the iv to make me relaxed, then they put the anesthesia and i was knocked out. What felt like a second later, I woke up feeling extra tired. Gag reflexed won’t matter because your body is completely knocked out. You can’t cough, sneeze, do anything when you’re put under.
@@samuel-mx3oq im late but also.. you usually dont eat or drink anything for a while after so your stomach is empty and reduces gagging
I’m more scared of what i’m going to say after I wake up and not having any control or memory of what shit I’ll say, and expose myself to my parents, than my operation itself. 💀
Ong
I only went through anesthesia once when I was like 4, I barely remember it. I just remember there were dinosaur toys in the waiting room and I named them.
I was very nervous but tried to keep as relaxed as possible. I tasted a slight metallic taste in my mouth creep up in my cheek and then boom... I was out like a light. Didn't even know I had drifted off and then found myself in the recovery room. When I come to, I was so comfortable, refreshed and felt like I had 8 hours sleep, when in fact I was only under for 30 mins. So please don't worry. Whenever I have a bad nights sleep genuinely I always think of the time I was under and how nice it felt after x 😊
Best wishes to you, Kloe.
I've been put under 5 X's I remember that intense burn pulsating through my hand, then I was out. Good ol' Milk of Amnesia.
After getting my wisdom teeth pulled my dad and the nurse were walking me at my sides holding my arms. The nurse asked “how are you feeling?” And my reply was “like I’m getting arrested, what did I do?” It was a fun car ride home
My mother was going though some sort of mri and had to be quite. She had claustrophobia and was terrified. Her and the nurse were silent when she got a notification from a game and her purse moo’ed
I had conscious of my words even after the Anesthesia!
I’m back! I came here around a year ago because I was scared. But it wasn’t scary at all. The only part that hurt, and it wasn’t even a lot, was the IV! Getting Anesthesia is like blinking. One second and you’re back up and running.
Had this for my cardioversion. Very quick and painless.
It’s funny how I’ve had five surgeries as a kid and it never bothered me. Now that I’m older, I get more nervous.
That’s cause when we get older we have more secrets and we finna snitch on ourselves
I went under anesthesia and literally one of the best naps in my life but I felt the pain of my surgery afterwards tho 😭😂
Btw wasn’t even a nap I just blacked out like I was gone absolute nothingness but don’t be scared..

I just got that repair today and I couldn't stop crying when I woke up but I don't remember much that happened I don't even remember them rolling me out of the hospital bed thingy lol

What type of anesthesia? IV Sedation with local or General anesthesia? I HATE fighting to wake and dread my upcoming umbilical hernia surgery.

Thanks, This eases my nervousness about surgerys. That I need to get done.
I don't even remember passing out tbh. I remember staring up at like 5 different people standing around the hospital bed, just staring at me for like 5 seconds like ".....any second now" and that's all I remember, so I guess I knocked out 😂
Anesthesia is necessary and works well most of the time but there are inherent risks, especially general anesthesia. Thank God for the nurses and anesthesiologists that do such important work.
I’ve had my wisdom teeth and tonsils removed. Both times, I was put under by anesthesia. What’s weird is I dimly remember “waking up” from both operations. It felt like a dream, but it was real. After my wisdom teeth were yanked, I started singing Hamilton and the doctors kept telling me to be quieter. After my tonsils were removed, I started crying and calling out for my mom, who drove me to the surgery and was sitting in the waiting room. Anesthesia is a very interesting experience.
We're thinking of you.
I have one more day and then I have my first surgery in the morning. Super nervous, they’re removing a gland from my neck. Wish me luck!
I hope it went well!
How was it
I had full dental surgery under general anesthesia and was able to get through it after a while but my body had stored so much but i had slept after when i had gotten home i was able to sleep deep with by mouth going through minimal blood loss . IM still having some pain and so I was able to take my medications that i was perscribed to me when I had gotten home I still have to take the antibiotics and the pain pills .
Having a surgery under general anesthesia on Sunday hope everything goes well!
How did the surgery go?
I had emergency brain surgery. Two surgeries to be exact. One for obviously emergency and second for other personal reasons... but all I remember in second was counting down from 10 and I don’t remember reaching ten lol... but I woke up with a whopping headache ugh... but that’s my experience of it. I only was comfortable going consciously through the second surgery because I had a crush on my neurosurgeon lol! So that helped.
i’m having surgery in two days, wish me luck! i’m being put to sleep but i’m only 13 and never has had surgery so i’m scared! any helpful info?

People worried about it,don’t be,when I had some,I was out a minute later, then I woke up in the recovery room, everything went well, this is coming from a 13 year old
im 13 too
im getting my surgery soon (i still have some time) but im already so nervous :(
getting surgery tmrw and im so stressed, what if something happens and i dont wake up? (alot of people might say i obviously wont, i just like to overthink lol)
I don't even remember being in the operating room when i had my surgery. I don't remember all that counting down stuff people are talking about. The last thing i remember was the doctor putting something in my IV that was supposed to help me relax apparently while i was in the hallway, I'm guessing that was the thing that caused amnesia.
I had sedation when I had eye surgery, also when I had a endoscopy and a colonospecy.
One word: amazing.
I did a breast biopsy yesterday and I was given anesthesia. I have no recollection of the procedure. I woke up in the recovery room it felt like I was asleep for hours. I felt relaxed and rested because I was sleep deprived for months so I was happy about that. It was my very first time being admitted in a hospital or having any medical procedures done so I was very nervous at first but trust me it’s not that bad.
Great work!
This was really helpful xx
I remember when I was coming to from anesthesia, I could hear everything but I wasn’t awake. I started shaking and I was sooo SOOO cold and I remember the nurse saying “are you cold sweetie?” 🤣 they covered me up and another nurse was like “she tensed up didn’t she” and I woke up right after. It was a trip
Hello...
I have a question...
When the doctors were removing tubes...u had some problems ???
Plzz ans
Are there any complications
Hey guys, I was watching these videos for months before I had a massive scalp lipoma removed from top of my head 7cmx7cmx2cm deep. I was terrified of being put to sleep, I went into the pre op room, this is where my nurse put my iv in, gave me pain killers and oxy via pills, once this was done my Anastasia tech came in and talked to me, informed me of everything he was Gona do: asked me if I get nervous which I said yes too. He then gave me Versed (happy drug) via my iv which you can’t feel it being injected. This made me feel really good and calmed me down a lot. After this I lost track of time and memory of the next 25 minutes before they wheeled me to my OR room. Next thing i remember is waking up in recovery. (Feeling absolutely amazing), it was like the best high I have ever had without any bad side effects. Once that was over they gave me juice and food and made sure I could pee & then sent me on my way home. The scalp lipoma removal recovery is not bad at all. I’d say at worst was a 4/10 pain. I’m not even using pain killers they prescribed me and I’m 3 days post op
We're so glad to hear you're doing well. Best wishes to you.
The thing is that I'm over aware of every thing and have never been artificially been put to sleep I don't know what to expect
I backed out today last second hate the thought of been put to sleep going for a local in two week

I'm getting my tonsils out in April and I'm getting knocked out for it and I'm so scared but so excited because this will be my first surgery.
How’d it go? How was the anesthesia?
why was anaesthetic gas stopped? i preferred gas to needles, is the gas bad or something? i didnt have no issues with been gased out before. last time i had the needle i woke up after op unable to move my body nurse wanted me off the op bed and on to the ward bed "but i cant move" i couldnt do it they had to lift me off, it was only a temporary issue i got back to normal shortly after.
I'm having surgery on Tuesday wish me luck
satisfyingslime1454 how did it go?
just had a right knee manipulation and scope. They did a nerve block before the put me under and they gave me a slight sleepy stuff to make sure i didn’t feel that nerve block. I passed out before they even did the nerve block. best sleep ive had since my first surgery december 10th. dont stress about it. just know your gonna have some really good sleep. i always wake up scared. specially this morning because none of my family could be back with me so i woke up with no one near me. but good luck to everyone!
Tracey, we're sorry to hear this. You're in our thoughts.
i just had a colonoscopy a week ago and was administered a mac. i cant imagine the process being comfortable but the mac made the sleep wonderful.
idk why i'm watching this. i've been under anesthesia before and i don't remember anything. january 13th i'm being put under for some major dental work. like top teeth removal, three bottom teeth removal, and a couple fillings and possibly a root canal but idk if that's happening 100% . the worst for me is getting the iv bc i really hate needles and the pain they give. i was put under for having my wisdom teeth out before so idk why i feel nervous about this. i'll also have dissolvable stitches...and i feel like i'll only be in pain for a day idk. i don't know if i'm getting pain killers even. but if not it's good that tylenol exists. wish me luck. if anyone truly cares i'll gladly do an update afterwards.
an introvert I hope everything goes well!!!
How does it feel to be put under ?
brelynn the minecraftian how’d it go? Read your comment ironically on the date you had your procedure.
brelynn the introvert how was your surgery? What do you remember?
I had a heart surgery the other day and all i remember is the surgeons saying they are gonna give me medicine then i was waking up with a small headache, feeling really sick and dizzy. It gets better as the day goes on but the dizzyness and sickness stayed for a day or so for me
We're sorry to hear this, Ashdon. If the problem persists, we encourage you to talk to your care team about your concerns.
im going to get mine out soon, can i go to sleep during the operation
im terrified im getting dental surgery and i don’t like things on my face and i wanna do the IV. not the face mask thing, but idk if i have an option
You’ll be fine I had two major surgeries and I had to be intubated etc , it was nerves at first of course , but once they start filling your veins with the medicine you’ll feel yourself going to sleep no matter how strong you are , you can’t defeat it lol next thing you knw your waking up like what happened? It literally feels like you were out a moment, I woke up two days later , tho , only scary thing was when they said they had a hard time waking me up , it makes me really sleep I guess lol . The only thing that bothers me is the feeling of being that high . I hate that like drugged out feeling lol but it’s absolutely necessary. That’s the worst part to me , the wooziness when you wake up . But I was glad to see I was still here. I was really hungry when I woke up lol I asked for food . They were like yep she’s doing fine !
Sadly im getting my tooth token out but it’s not even my wisdom tooth it’s my tooth in front of my wisdom took😟it’s broken........I hate sour patch

@Peppa Pig I was awake too😩 I screamed because I could feel it being pulled out
I did this yesterday for my ptosis surgery and it felt kinda good tbh 😂 my dreams were very random though, I started to wake up at the end of the procedure and once I realised what was happening I just got back to sleep.
I'm getting dental surgery tomorrow through sedation and I'm nervous as hell. Apparently, I'm gonna be couscous during the procedure but won't feel anything. At this point, it's not even the surgery itself that's making me nervous. It's the IV. Those hurt like hell. Can't wait for it to be over.
I am also getting oral surgery. They are gonna give me laughing gas so I won’t feel anything, just feel the pressure. I have impacted canines, and I’m a bit nervous eeee
the ivs are nothing
They are fine imo, but having them in for days on end is soooooooo annoying

What was the surgery
I recently had cataract surgery,,,,,,,,,,some numbing drops were placed into my eye and I believe fentanyl and propofol ( I spoke with the anesthesiologist before hand ) were used in my IV.....the surgery went well and I don't remember anything after being brought into the room.....at a follow up visit with the doctor, she said I was very talkative during the beginning of the procedure , but I can remember nothing........ is that normal ?

I would ask for general off the bat, I have been weird about it ever since I woke up half way through a bladder correction when I was 7. No i was not in any pain, just couldn't move anything and felt a poke every now and then, for anyone else wanting to know what its like, imagine waking up, but your eves are closed, you cant move anything, you dont feel any pain, and there is a massive straw like thing (breathing tube) going from your mouth to your lungs and it feels very unplesant, if you have any questions just feel free to reply to this comment, i will try to get beck to you as this is a topic a lot of people find interesting
I’ve been there before and man it is relaxing 😂 😆 😝
They had to push my wrist back into place. It was so weird, like did I scream, did I cry, idk
I wonder if there are some patients who can't fall asleep despite of given anesthesia? How anesthesiologists can be sure if patients will fall asleep?
What if I'll have surgery but it's impossible to put me down, bcuz I'm strong or something? Is that possible? Its always 100% a chance to fall asleep? :D
I had it today
First lots of air pressure in the mask
Then stinky smell
Then the sleeping gas
Then this start to become blurry and your ear start ringing and echoing the voice
Then your deaf and can’t hear
Then your a sleep
I had an operation on my shoulder today. I had the weirdest sensation in my bottom as soon as it was administered! Has anyone else had such a sensation! It was like my insides were sucking itself inwards.
I have to get fibroid removal surgery in a few weeks and I don't know if I'll be fully asleep or not. Still, I'm nervous. It's hard to find veins to stick a needle in for me but my hand. It's been jabbed so many times due to blood work that it's starting to bruise. But I guess it's best to have it remove since it's like 13 inches and it's moving my stomach and one of my ovaries.
We're sorry to hear this. Best wishes to you.

What alternative general anesthesia is there that dont work on gaba a receptors..
Had surgery on my right thigh as there was an infected wound yesterday. While I was in operating room, doctor told me about anaesthesia and were putting you to sleep.
The next moment the procedure was completed and I'm like WTF? I woke up and everything seems normal.
being put under just feels like a blink, i remember waking up from it and just being confused, and i legit asked how long i was actually out for
Some people wake up during the surgery and cant move
Oh it's really not that bad. Just some happy meds and you don't even know how deep they cut you open!
Why did it burn when given the medicine?
I have hyperparathyroidism and was wondering,is it safe to have general anasthesia?I need hernia surgery.
Anaesthesia is a little scary to be frank, I had undergone it as a child and remember to this day. There is a point where your eyesight begins to blur and light dims, then, voices begin to fade, you can literally hear them tunnelling away and away from you. Your senses are somewhat nullified. You are put down with the mere silhouette of a doctor towering over you , resembling a smear of blue moving further and further away until...you wake up. With absolutely no memory of whatever happened. You are now in a different room to the one you started in and your senses begin to kick in. That's it. Hours worth of surgery feels like a mere 5 minutes. Crazy.
Best wishes to you.
I just went through surgery about 5 hours ago for a ruptured appendix. And I don’t remember anything at all . I only felt a bit of pain in my stomach . But nothing like the pain I was in before the surgery. Man when appendicitis sets in that’s the worse ever !
